Book Description
With over 1000 color combinations, this remarkable book assists with color choice in several important ways: it takes the guesswork out of putting colors together by showing in advance what they will look like; innovative color schemes provide new ideas; tint percentages for every color insure correct reproduction. This book is meant primarily as a professional tool for anyone associated with design or the design process. Because of the inclusion of screen values of the four process colors, this book will make perhaps its greatest contribution to those who realize their design through some printed process -- graphic designers, certainly; also environmental designers, advertising and package designers and probably some members of architectural firms who become involved in printed media. In a much broader sense, the book has real value to anyone who needs to confirm color suggestions and examples presented in a straightforward, pure and neutral way.

Not what I expected.......2001-08-28
Reading the other reviews, I expected this book to have some color direction in it. But it is just a color swatch book. The colors that are included are so minimal, this book was useless to me.
One handy piece of knowledge for the aspiring designer.......2000-08-26
This book is simply essential if you come into design without knowledge of color. It also has some useful color combinations, small tips to understand color more fully, and gorgeous pictures. It is a good investment for any kind of artist.

Good tips but outdated photos.......2004-12-30
The author gives some good tips on color, basic items to buy and styles but the photos are terrible. They are extremely outdated - who wears denim jeans with animal print and belts printed on them? Or jeans splattered with paint that look like a bad spinart project. The few photos that are in the book are very outdated. The author also trys to pair a scarf with everything. Maybe I'm too young for this book but I was trying to find something that would show me how to put together a professional look. I'm still looking.
110 Mistakes Working Women Make and How to Avoid Them.......2003-10-22
This book is worth over $5600. That's how much I paid for my Color 1 Associate training from Joanna Nicholson in 1990.
This book contains all that I learned and more. I have saved myself and others thousands of dollars of fashion mistakes by using her approach to color and style.
Buy the book if you are interested in easy to understand, accurate information about how to look great everyday using your best colors and styles.
Joanna's color system is not seasonal and she believes everyone can wear every color as long as the shade, and clarity are flattering.
There is so much great information in this book that you might feel a little overwhelmed. In that case it might be worthwhile to slowly read the book and highlight parts that pertain to you.
If you have diffulty determining your color type you may want to contact your nearest Color 1 Associate who can quickly shorten your learning curve about your best colors and styles. Then you can use this book as a reference.
Dressing Smart for Women.......2003-10-06
JoAnna Nicholson is brillant! She goes over complete head to toe looks for dressing smart and elegant in any situation. Starting with color which is essential in looking great, to shoes, belts, purses, hairstyles .... everything for the finished, polished look. She also makes you very aware of all the myths and bad advice we have received throughout the years. The color pictures in the book are very helpful. I highly recommend this book to everyone.
Book Description
Readers of all ages have a variety of reasons why they love the daily comic strip Mutts. But for some readers, Sunday is the most special day of the week because it is the day that cartoonist Patrick McDonnell unleashes his full-color Sunday strips.
Those Sunday-loving readers are in for a real treat with the release of Sunday Evenings. This new Mutts treasury is the fourth in the "Sunday" series and stars Earl the dog and Mooch the cat, who despite their obvious differences prefer to tackle life as a mostly harmonious partnership.
Under the skilled pen of cartoonist Patrick McDonnell, Mutts is about far more than the simple, carefree world of pets. Underneath the banter of its endearing characters, the reader often faces the all-too-real concerns of animals and life on the planet Earth. It's what makes this book such a rich and enjoyable experience, one that readers will savor each time they page through the collection.

Love it.......2006-03-05
This book is obviously a 'research piece' done by Uncle Fester. Fester has no experience in the synthesis of LSD, but he does offer some good inspection of how LSD would be, and could be made. There are many methods he covers in this book, and one would be quite impressed at the journal articles and patents he pulls up to support the methods described.
This book covers how to grow morning glories, extract lysergic acid amides (LSAs) from them, and convert the LSAs into iso-LSD, then into d-LSD (active LSD). He covers many syntheses for Lysergic Acid, and several methods for converting the lysergic acid into LSD. One of the questionable methods is the method of converting lysergic acid into LSD using phosgene - a war gas he covers in his book Silent Death. But I guess if you are skilled enough to make LSD, then you are skilled enough to play with phosgene. A really cool chapter is Method X, a very interesting and mildly simple method for creating LSD.
There is also much writing into the production of TMA-2 (trimethyoxyamphetamine) from Calamus oil - a common plant oil. Fester gives addresses and phone numbers for chemical waste exchangers, and shows you just how to use these exchangers to procure your own hard to obtain chemicals. Another cool little section is "letters from the heat," where he has photocopies of official documents sent to him by the DEA asking about why he bought certain chemicals that he did.
Definitely a good read, I suggest it for those who want to know how LSD would be made.
Not the real deal.......2005-10-05
I had to create a brand new amazon ID for myself to write this review because even admitting that one had read this can be toxic to one's career.
It's obvious to me (as a former student of chemistry) that Fester never made LSD himself. It's also clear that he didn't spend enough time researching the subject. The first edition had several errors in it - some of them due to bad proof reading but others due to mistakes Fester made because of a rushed job. This is much better but still ... a person looking for good advice on how to make LSD should investigate Shulgin's Tihkal ... I definitely get the impression that Shulgin has either made LSD himself or is one intimate terms with someone who did.
So why am I giving this 3 stars if I think it's so bad? Because the book is not a complete waste. I rather admire the notion that someone like Fester would spend so much time writing subversive books like this. His freedom-loving spirit is refreshing in these conformist and authoritarian times.
The right book for the thinking Psychonaut.......2004-09-30
I'm a former intelligence officer to my country and, as such, I meet several famous persons, and also became friend of some.
One of these persons was the late Timothy Leary, with whom I keept corresponding for years after meeting by person a few times (one of these times here in Brazil).
My "other side" is know to more people than my "warrior side", for obvious reasons: I'm an occultist and published author of 60 titles in my country, mostly on Magic and such topics.
I was ever intrigued by LSD, and my curiosity go beyound the experimentation: I wanted to know how it is done.
Them I found this book, the first one I've buy from this author.
All I wanted to know was there. Long Live Uncle Fester! Keep telling us these valuable secrets!
Practical Lsd Manufacture.......2004-09-29
In the sixties Timothy Leery told us to drop acid and drop out. Uncle Fester took it a step further with actual recipes for making your own LSD! You'll definitely want to take this trip!
Product Description
This book covers in great detail virtually all known methods for making LSD. Emphasis is placed on using botanical sources of lysergic acid such as ergot and morning glory seeds, but extraction of ergotamine migraine pills is also covered. Every recipe is presented along with references back to the original works in the scientific liturature. The terminology used in the scientific works has been clarified and simplified, but each procedure is true to the original work. In addition, I also cover the production of the psychedelic TMA-2 from easily available and cheap calamus oil. Now that sassafras oil is difficult to obtain, this subject should be of great interest.
Customer Reviews:
Not Practical for LDS but some valuable concepts are introduced none the less.......2007-05-15
This book; though not terribly 'Practical' does present the clandestine chemist with a number of valuable concepts. The first is that certain precursors (in this case ergot; though the concept applies to Safrole and Ephedrine as well)are becoming very difficult to obtain; and as such require the chemist to produce them his/herself, either by Total Synthesis or as My Uncle suggests here by growing them. The second important concept My Uncle puts forth is that "if all you want is some trips for yourself and your friends, MDA & TMA-2 are much eaisier to synthesis than LSD". These regardless of what may or may not be said are the most valuable points in this book.

Customer Reviews:
Ideal chess book for the average player.......2006-05-29
This is a very good book for the average chess player who is looking to improve with a short, well rounded book. Topics covered include Attack, Defence, Planning, Positional Play, and Endings. I particularly enjoyed the sections on Planning, Positional Play, and Endings.
If you often find yourself struggling in roughly level, but quiet, positions and wondering what to do next, then you may find the antidote in here. The book contains a very good section on how to assess a position and then create a logical plan based on that assessment.
The Ending section is also very well done, and manages to cram quite a bit of essential endgame knowledge into very few words and pages. While this portion of the book is by no means exhaustive, or in itself a complete course, those who read it will have a better idea of how to approach the endgame and may even be inspired by it to tackle one of the many books dedicated to this phase of the game.
Construction is typical Dover quality, with easy to read text and diagrams, and algebraic notation.
A lot of meat in this book, pound by pound.......2006-05-06
I read this book twice and have no doubt that I will use it in the future. It is full of experience and suggestions that would be very beneficial for any serious chess player. I will recommend this book to any one because of the following reasons:
1. It is well organized. Different topics (small topic) are divided into units. Each unit is only a few pages long. Therefore, I only need about one hour to get the idea of each unit.
2. It is well diagrammed. You must have the experience that when you replay a game, there is only one diagram for the entire game. But in this book, a diagram is given after about 7 or 8 moves so that you can play the in-between moves in your head and check the diagram. You don't need a board for most positions. How convenient!
3. It is well written. There is no deep theory, complicated analysis, nor frequent refering to other games. The author clearly explains each position and his language is like a normal human being instead of a chess machine. Occational stories about their chess clubs enhances the readability of this book.
Need I say more?
The most practical chess instruction book I've read.......2005-11-21
It's a bit dated (they even warn about this in the new preface). It's a bit silly/overdramatic at times. It doesn't have 500 pages of puzzles, and doesn't promise instant results. It wasn't written by a big-name grandmaster.
But it's quite useful for someone who knows how the pieces move, has probably played in a tournament or two, and just wants some simple, practical ideas on how to become a better player. I really appreciated Mr. Harding's down-to-earth advice, and anyone who's gotten past the "dropping pieces in every game" stage will find something of value here. It's impressively readable for a chess book, and I learned something useful from every chapter.
Let's face it, we all know what we need to do: study effectively, and play chess. Better Chess for Average Player will help with both.
Fun for this 2000 Player too.......2002-08-06
I have the original edition from the '70s. This is a very enjoyable book. Although my rating is about 2000 USCF, I still find much of the material to be enlightening and simply fun. For the price there is a LOT of nice chess packed into this book. You won't finish it in a week. And the sense of fun and humor are great.
I'd say any player from about 1200 USCF up to high expert level (maybe 2150) would find this a good book, with perhaps those around 1400-1700 getting the most benefit. And like I said, it's priced well and covers a lot of ground in an enjoyable fashion.
I may buy another copy to see what's been changed since the '70s. The extra copy will make a great gift.
Average doesn't equal Beginner.......2002-02-13
I had thought the "average" in the title was equating it with the many beginners' books available. It isn't. Or doesn't. Average here means someone who already has alot of basic chess knowledge under their belt. It was a bit over my head and for that reason disappointing. As I mature as a chess player I'm sure this book will be one I'll go back to however.

Irrepressible enthusiast, perceptive people-watcher, and born storyteller, he will fascinate and inspire you. You'll never forget Ray Kroc.
Customer Reviews:
Ray Kroc, What a Cock.......2007-05-13
I was required to read this book for an entrepreneurship class. I was immensely surprised at the diction of Kroc's writing. If you buy this book, you will be a shocked at the life of a man that truly had no life; he probably had some psychological oddities as well-you can read the first several pages of the book here on Amazon-I encourage you to read them. He witnesses an attractive woman eating a cheeseburger and that she makes his heart "hammer with excitement" as she "devoured the hamburger;" it was not her attractive looks, but the manner of her eating that caused his pulse to race (8). Truly a strange little man-I found myself examining the copyright to see if it was a sick joke played on an unsuspecting populace-sadly, it was not. The rest of the book is the exact same way; Kroc describes his McJournies in vivid detail. This book has a lot of enthusiasm, but not well placed. I don't recommend buying it unless you are in my situation and are forced to do so by a misguided college professor.
terrible i never received the product .......2007-02-15
It has been several months and i have still not recieved the book. i tryed to contact the vendor with no success. I highly recommend using a different distributor.
Great tutorial on how to run a franchise.......2007-01-11
Candid comments from Ray Kroc, great insights on his business philosophy. Highly recommend this book; also "Behind the Arches" which was written 10 years later and complements this book.
good start to a great story.......2006-12-19
The history of fast food and how it developed are among the best stories in business. Ray Kroc adds his perspective in this biography. This is actually a very fair biography and Kroc tells the story from his perspective. The discovery of McDonald's from his milkshake business and the ineptitude of his friends in diluting the brand name are among the high points of the early years. He takes us pretty far into the history and the only thing you want to hear more about are the aboard prospects. While I prefer behind the arches this book is an excellent start to a great story.
Hear it from a real entrepreneur!.......2006-12-08
Are you a business person or thinking or starting one? This one is a must. Learn how Ray Kroc went from a 52 year old milkshake salesman to one of the most famous restaurant icons in the world. "Grinding it Out" tells it the way it was, when Kroc was nearly broke several times, in the early days when franchising was not a well respected idea to a prized business idea when done right. Not only was his estate worth over $1,000,000,000 when he pasted away in 1984, but his idea of perfect replication paid off with the public. Kroc shares both his failures and successes and the title is very appropriate!
