Richard Huelsenbeck's "Memoirs of a Dada Drummer".......2001-01-24
This is essential reading for anyone seriously interested in the progression of 20th century Art. Living in New York City late in his life, Richard Huelsenbeck - a seminal member of the original Dada group formed at Zurich's Cabaret Voltaire - looks back upon his role in Dada and Art (or rather"Anti-Art"), and tries to make some sense of it all. Though highly opinionated (especially in regards to the role of Tristan Tzara), he manages to objectively de-mystify much of the Dada legend and examine some of the human interactions and political and social motivations which sparked the birth of Dada. Low points include the incessant ¡°plugging¡± of his own work and his role in the birth of Dada, but this by no means overshadows his comments and observations about other ¡°Dadaists¡± or the importance of the movement as a whole.

Dilbert will forever be remembered........2006-05-12
Dilbert is a cultural icon. Possibly too good for it's time. The jokes in Dilbert are amazingly smart, and I don't think deserves to be in the comic pages by idiocy. Anyway, this book marks the first (and possibly the best) comics from the Dilbert series. Characters we're still developing and the niche of the comic was still undecided. Regardless, it's a gut bustingly funny collection.
If you even have the tiniest, remote sense of humor, buy this. And when your done, by the funniest tv-show ever made; no, not seinfeld. Dilbert: the complete series. If not, go back to your pathetically boring life and dirty cubicle.
Scott Adams remains one of the funniest authors in the world.
DILBERT'S FORMATIVE YEARS.......2004-12-28
This being the earliest collection of dilbert strips we can see where Scott Adams was still looking to find that comfort zone. Kind of like Seinfeld in its first two seasons. Many of the strips take place at home as opposed to the office and include many of Scotts Animal characters.
Still you can see where the strip is going and certainly where it would be in a just a couple of years. The wry, sarcasm that we now know so well is rearing its humorous head.
Early Dilbert.......2004-08-01
This is the first compilation of Dilbert comics, featuring Dilbert comic strips from the late 80's. Most of the humor is at home -- away from the office and features Dilbert with Dogbert. No Pointy Hair Boss, Wally, Alice, etc.. So, despite its title, there is very little office satire (my Dilbert preference). At 112 pages with typically 3 comic strips per page, there are plenty of laughs. The comics featuring Phil the Ruler of Heck are hillarious.
The First Dilbert Strips.......2002-08-19
This book contains the first Dilbert strips running from April 16, 1989 to October 21, 1989. The characters are a little rough from what we've come to know and the humor contains a lot of puns. Some characters introduced here besides Dilbert and Dogbert are the dinosaurs Bob and Dawn, and Phil, the Prince of Insufficient Light. Scott was still feeling out the strip at this time and as a result it is not the funniest, but it is still good.
The First Dilbert Book.......2001-09-18
This is the first Dilbert book, filled with intelligent, totally funny humor on everyday life. This book did not have the official pointy haired boss, Wally, Alice, Ratbert, or Catbert. This book focuses more on Dilbert and Dogbert at home, on walks, and other places that don't have much to do with office life. These kinds of jokes are just as funny as the business jokes. This book should be read by all Dilbert fans.

Ms. Wayne's Faulty Research.......2006-09-22
I am very disappointed in Ms. Wayne's lack of research and/or the lack of research by her editor. On page xvi, in the Introduction to THE LEADING MEN OF MGM, Ms. Wayne writes that Clark Gable's fifth wife was Loretta Young, who gave birth to Gable's son after Clark Gable had died. Mr. Gable was never married to Loretta Young, although they had an affair during the filming of "Call of the Wild". Miss Young gave birth to Gable's daughter, Judy Lewis, in 1935. Gable's last wife was Kay Williams Spreckels and she did, indeed, give birth to John Clark Gable after Mr. Gable's untimely death. In my opinion, this error at the beginning of the book does not bode well for the rest of it. Ms. Wayne's topic is fascinating to anyone who loves "old" Hollywood, her writing style is good, but the mistaken statement about Gable and Young leads me to dislike the book for its lack of integrity.
Shoddy research . . . salacious details.......2006-09-17
Just like some of the other reviewers, I DID NOT buy this book. Instead, I made use of my public library. And although it is an easy read, the book is a major hodge-podge of innuendo, rehashed rumors, and facts that may or MAY NOT be true! The latter is due to the simple reason that Ms. Wayne can't get her facts straight. She seems to be hung up on certain personalities (i.e, Robert Taylor), and certain themes (is he/she straight or gay?). Also, why the need to REPEAT anecdotes in overlapping fashion?!
Jane Ellen Wayne should be sued!!!!.......2006-07-07
No, I did not buy this book!! I spent two hours at "Borders" yesterday perusing it. This woman is all about "trashy gossip" and has no authentic sources to back up her claims. Because most of the principals of her "dish" are dead it is safe to assume that no one can sue the pants off of her. But it is an insult to the memory of the stars....especially Robert Taylor. What is it with this woman's fixation with him???? It is quite obvious she was totally obssessed with him to the point of "stalking". She lambasts Barbara Stanwyck at every turn and claims ridiculously that Stanwyck was bisexual. She seems jealous that Stanwyck had Taylor and she did not. Of course, Wayne wrote a "Taylor" biography many years ago so much of what was written about him in this book came from that one. What she says about Gable, Ramon Novarro and William Haines is no less stupid. Do not support this woman and her tabloid style of writing. This book isn't worth one penny! The author is emotionally disturbed, I know that!!
Terrible Book .......2006-04-02
This is another one of Jane Ellen Wayne's ridiculous collections of lurid gossip which when it is sourced it's usually not a credible source (ie: other book authors of her kind). Practically the only person spared is her pet Robert Taylor who she gushes over like a schoolgirl (she really goes after his wife of over a decade, Barbara Stanwyck, with some lewd episodes that are just ridiculous.) Avoid this book like the plague and look for better books on the various actors profiled here.
What a dump !!!.......2006-01-20
The first part of this book takes about Loretta Young marrying Clark Gable. Please. Never happened. It goes down hill. The audacity of her quoting conversations that celebrities in the privacy of their bedrooms. Was she the fly on the wall? I am so disappointed, I can't stand the money that I wasted on this junk. To the novice, it reads well. To anyone who knows anything about Hollywood, skip this !

Great pieces, but transcriptions are questionable.......2003-02-09
I've played many of the pieces in this book before, but when I bought it I found the transcriptions were actually variations of the real pieces. Some pieces have bits of improvisation added to them(which really defeats the purpose) while others were in entirely different keys. By changing keys (for example they changed "Take Five" from Eb to Bb) it really just complicates the fingering in certain pieces. I'm no vituoso at music, but I don't think this is worth the money. :-(

If you are an avid SW RPG gamer, you should know this SWRPG supplement is one of the best around for the most interesting planet on the Star Wars saga, it has a lot of info from the movies, the novels and the New Rebellion Era Stuff, the only downside thing is that only covers the things you see in the classic trilogy and Episode I, so you won't get any info on the updated Episode II stuff. Not so bad, but it would be great if they update the thing. Besides that, is a good supplement
Three Times a Charm: Finally, a good supplement!.......2001-07-04
I must admit that I was justifiably skeptical that the `Secrets of Tatooine' source book would be any better than the previous two offerings from Wizards of the Coast. The first, `Secrets of Naboo' was well-written, but held no real secrets, nor enough detail to make it of any real use. `Living Force' was a limp, flaccid retread of a great many things we had seen before-pod races, cloud city gas mines, Force-resistant creatures and even a Sith Temple had all been done elsewhere and better, but instead of giving us something new, the RPGA saw fit to simply cram it all into one star system. That being said, the `Secrets of Tatooine' has broken the mold of mediocrity and as it turns out, is a pretty good deal for your Star Wars role playing gaming dollar.
After a brief introduction, Secrets moves into the basics with a description of the planetary data and make-up of the Tatooine System, but provides no system map. It then describes climate (really hot), geography-like the Jundland Wastes, Beggar's Canyon and the Dune Seas, explaining that complete cartography of the planet is difficult because of the sand storms. The survival section gives handy rules for heat prostration, thirst, and sand storms-the most dangerous of which, gravel storms, are a nightmare for aerial transport. Next up are native inhabitants-the sand people (Tusken Raiders, named for the first human settlement they destroyed), and the Jawas-which the author seems to patronize somewhat, describing them not really smart enough to do anything, but somehow makes things work. Finally are the creatures-the bantha, ronto, eopie, rock wart, scurrier wamp rat and krayt dragon-a creature with a combined Vitality and Wound Point total of 470 and attacks that can cut land speeders in half. A little too powerful for anytone but the toughest PCs, (or those with good ranged attacks).
The biggest section and by the far the most important are the cities, unfortunately, the book only provides character stats for movie characters, and very little of mayors and other townspeople other than those created by Lucas. Bib Fortuna, Watto and Shmi Skywalker are here, as are most of the aliens from the cantina, but no regular folk, too bad because they add color, even more than those individuals we already know about. The maps of Mos Espa, Mos Eisley, etc. are horrible and continues a trend that has plagued the Star Wars RPG supplements from day one. Detailed, well labeled maps are not hard to do, but completely absent from the Star Wars supplements.
Another good section is the complete pod racing rules, including stats for all of the racers in the Boonta Eve Classic from the Phantom Menace. It also lets players design their own pods and gives a complete list of die-determined hazards, and finally a map of the Boonta Eve Circuit. Finally, the non-Episode I based adventure was a treat, and it was a nice change of pace since I feel that Wizards of the Coast is paying way too much attention to Episode I and not enough emphasis on other eras of play. Given the shear breadth of material available from the Tails of the Jedi, Rebellion, New Republic and New Jedi Order, the supplements should be spilling out of Wizards. In the end, however, `Secrets of Tatooine' again doesn't have a lot of secrets to offer, but instead gives the Star Wars game master a good source book for the birth place of Luke Skywalker.

If you ever think you will have to write a fundraising letter, you NEED this book. Too many people think it is just like writing any other kind of letter but it isn't. There is a rhyme and, more importantly, a reason to it. Don't write a fundraising letter without reading this book first.

I am not an expert in writing fundraising letters. So, when I found a book with a title "How to write successful Fundraising Letters" it was as if I had won the lottery. I couldn't wait to get my hands on it because I was on a dealine to write a fundraising letter for a non-profit organization for which I had volunteered. I ordered the book, and paid just as much to have it deleivered the next day (local bookstores do not carry it). I found the book to be a tutorial and not something I could quickly benefit from. It is written to teach how to properly write and follow-up a fundraising campaign letter. The samples provided were very specific to 3-4 scenarios and did not offer much context. I guess I was looking for a book with hundreds of samples so that I could pick and choose phrases, paragraphs, etc.
Success at Last.......2007-01-11
I have toyed around with various funderaising letters over the years, reinventing the wheel each time. This book is a tremendous guideline for writing great fundraising letters and has many great examples.
I was able to raise over $100,000.00 in a recent campaign and for the first time I have had a number of people comment on how well the letter appealed to them, and how well it was written. I keep this book close at hand.
