                    Book Description

More than a cheap article of clothing, the T-shirt is a portable personal ad, its wearer declaring their political/musical/social affiliations for the world to see.

Since the Sixties, the T-shirt has provided a forum for expression where anti-war slogans mixed with early counter-culture classics such as `Keep on Truckin'', and tie-dye mingled with the debut of that hardy perennial, the tour T-shirt - album cover graphic on the front, venue details listed on the back. This book reflects the diverse and rich graphic culture that has arisen from the medium, considering its use in areas such as music, politics and fashion.

Music has had a lasting relationship with the T-shirt, which has proved almost as enduring a medium for music-related graphic design as the album cover. Design companies such as Mo Wax, Intro, Stylorouge and Designers Republic have comprehensive back catalogues of cool T-shirts that not only reflect the spirit of a particular band but also the spirit of a particular time.

Equally, however, politics and high fashion use the T-shirt as a medium for expressing a particular message. Katherine Hamnett famously used T-shirts to oppose Pershing missiles, while Greenpeace, Amnesty International and similar organizations highlight their causes through T-shirt graphics.

Fashion designers such as Stella McCartney and Savage use memorable graphics on T-shirts as an integral part of their range, while T-shirts are also a core part of the business of surf and skateboard companies such as Mambo and Fuct. Equally, however, graphic designers such as Tom Hingston and Product 250 are expanding into creating designs specifically for T-shirts.

1 out of 5 stars Pages falling out.......2006-03-18

The book is fantasic - the copy I was sent looked fine when I wrapped it for my nine year old's birthday. However, when he opened it, the first part fell out page by page. He was disappointed. I was angry.

4 out of 5 stars REWIND THE CLOCK TO 1998.......2005-02-11

While the title gives the impression that this Peanuts collection focuses soley on Snoopy, this is not the case. The book actually reprints all the Peanuts strips from the calendar year 1998 in chronological order, complete with the dates in the daily strips. This really is the best way to enjoy any comic strip because Shulz of course did have storylines that would run over the course of many days, if not a few weeks. The daily strips are actually in color as well as the Sundays although sometimes the colors seemed to have been rushed or off a bit from panel to panel.

We see the usual Schulz plot elements here, Baseball games, preparing for the Great Pumpkin, Lucy flirting with Schroeder, Snoopy's writing career, etc...Rerun plays a fairly big part in this collection as he's developed and fleshed out quite a bit than he had been since his arrival and was Schulz's last major addition to the cast, even though he was not the most popular amongst Peanut's fans.

There are a lot of hits, and a few misses; some rely on specific reactions to the outside world which I do not share. But then, some of the ones that other people would find to be non-sequitors, I find brilliant, because I can see what's going on in the character's head.

All in all, quite an enjoyable book.

4 out of 5 stars Surprisingly good cartoons!.......2004-02-11

If you're like me, who ignored Peanuts in the 90s because you thought it was past its prime will be pleased by the great humor and artwork of these cartoons. Despite the title these 1998 strips don't solely focus on Snoopy. I agree with the sentiment that the (daily) strips shouldn't be colored in. Well worth buying if you're a Peanuts fan or collector.

5 out of 5 stars This is a great book!.......2003-06-04

This wonderful book contains 168 pages of Peanuts cartoons, and all of them are in color! All of these 1998 cartoons are reproduced in wonderful quality, and are a joy to read. Snoopy's brothers (Spike, Olaf and Andy) are here, including Spike spending time in the trenches of World War I! Also, in this book, we get to learn where the zambonis go at night, see Snoopy at Valley Forge, and see Woodstock become a test pilot.

This is a great book! My daughter had some money saved up, and when she saw this book, she just had to get it. After that, she spent hours poring over it, and reading the stories aloud. She loves this book, and considers her money well spent. We both highly recommend this book.

                    5 out of 5 stars I Like the Color!.......2001-09-17

Hey, I like the color! I wish the rest of the critics of this particular format would be quiet! No, it may not have been in color when you saw it in the newspaper, but don't you think Charles Schulz would have liked to have added color to it? I think it looks great! Let's see more from Ballantine books!

"It's A Dog's Life" is a collection of Snoopy dailies from 1983-1984, and it's pretty funny stuff, lots of banter and character. Peppermint Patty and Snoopy are tested for narcolepsy, which is my favorite bit.

I love this calendar. I bought it as a gift for my mom and have been enjoying it with her each month of this year. The photographs are both adorable and hilarious. I was just wondering if anyone can tell me if there will be a 2007 edition?

I love this calendar; it never fails to make me smile. The little chicks are so CUTE. Seeing all the ''sets'' that were created for the photo shoots
are charming. There are lots of little details to be discovered in each picture. The companion book has a place on my bookshelf and comes out when I feel in need of a smile or a grin. Chicken lovers should get a kick out of this calendar - and it should go up on the wall of the KFC

4 out of 5 stars find the mistakes in some of your favorite movies.......2004-06-29

Every movie has some sort of "mistake" that was made during the editing process or during the filming of the movie and it just happens to make it into the finished product. It could be as simple as a character taking off his glasses in two shots only seconds apart, or as strange as the odometer in "Back to the Future" giving different (and impossible) readings in various shots. This is a book that covers these little flubs in the filmmaking process.

The authors' intent is not to point these out to show how bad these movies are, but rather these are the movies the authors love and have seen time and time again and it is these little things that they enjoy catching in movies. This book is not an exhaustive list of every movie mistake in every movie ever made, but it does cover a large number of movies, from the Matrix to Terminator 2 to Titanic to an old Abbott and Costello movie. The mistakes are numbered and the time (to the minute, but not second) that the mistake occurs is noted. The authors note which mistakes are ones that with just a little bit of research could have been avoided and which ones just keep happening over and over again. The book disproves some alleged mistakes on films, and also makes suggestions on things that do not quite qualify as mistakes, but don't make sense in the context of the film.

There is a companion volume out: "Oops They did it Again! More Movie Mistakes that Made the Cut" which covers more movies than were included in this volume, but this was a good book to see what sort of mistakes were made in the making of some of your favorite movies. There may never been an all-inclusive book, but this one is a good start.

Had no idea so many mistakes aren't caught in the editing process. I guess if the mistakes weren't there we wouldn't have this incredibly funny, extremely detailed and informative book. Loved the way the authors had their own pictoral anecdotes in the margins. Very clever.

Enter Etherspace In 1876, Harold Wallace discovered something that changed the world: Etherspace. The might of Victorian industry drove forward, breaking down the frontiers of technology. Steam engines became smaller, weapons became more powerful, and cybernaughtics replaced limbs lost in bloody imperial wars. Then mankind learned to step into Etherspace itself.

                                      Cyberpunk Victoriana

Now it's 1984. In this alternative world of out-of-control technology, Etherspace is the new frontier. Punk scope riders fight evil industrialists while occult investigators war against Etherspace demons. Mysterious System Agents lurk in the shadows as treasure hunters raid Lemurean ruins for lost secrets. Jack in, scope up, and get ready, because the options for an Etherscope game are endless!

Etherscope is a complete OGL role playing game containing everything you need to create a character, play an adventure, start a campaign, and explore Etherspace!

                                      Book Description

For over fifteen years, New York Times bestselling author Harry S. Dent, Jr., has been uncannily accurate in predicting the financial future. In his three previous works, Dent predicted the financial recession of the early nineties, the economic expansion of the mid-nineties, and the financial free-for-all of 1998-2000.

The Next Great Bubble Boom -- part crystal ball, part financial planner -- offers a comprehensive forecast for the next two decades, showing new models for predicting the future behavior of the economy, inflation, large- and small-cap stocks, bonds, key sectors, and so on. In taking a look at past booms and busts, Dent compares our current state to that of the crash of 1920-21, and the years ahead of us to the Roaring Twenties. Dent gives advice on everything from investment strategies to real estate cycles, and shows not only how bright our future will be but how best to profit from it.

Dent gives us all something to look forward to, including:

Dent's amazing ability to track and forecast our financial future is renowned, and here he takes that ability to the next level, showing not only what our economy will look like but also how it will affect us as individuals, as organizations, and as a culture. From the upcoming wealth revolution to the essential principles of entrepreneurial success, the book describes a new society where economic and philanthropic development go hand in hand.

In The Next Great Bubble Boom, Dent shows not only how the economic growth of the late 1990s was a prelude to the true great boom right around the corner but how all of us can reap its benefits.

3 out of 5 stars Next Great Bubble Boom, Revised Again.......2007-09-03

Hindsight tells us a lot of things. For the Next Great Bubble Boom, hindsight shows that Harry Dent's analysis of a 40,000 Dow and 20,000 Nasdaq are just as fanciful now as they were when he made the predictions in 2004. His latest revisions, which came out last year, show he has cut his original estimate in half, and that the predicted outcomes are much more within reason. The difficulty with accepting his predictions now is that the past ones ended so dismally. The seductive part of Dent's analysis is that it squares with historical and demographical cycles. The ridiculous part is the extrapolation into predictive behavior. It you want some really wild stuff, just look at what he says will happen from 2023 on. If anybody made any investment decisions based on this book, they're about due for a thorough reality check. His most powerful cycle, the 10-year cycle, seems the most likely one to come true. But the difficulty with predicting what will happen in each 10 year cycle is that Dent bases it strictly on stock market past behavior. And whenever that prediction fails, Dent finds some new cycle to explain his error. His latest cycle, the geopolitical cycle, supposedly explains the failure of the markets to rise in 2004-2005. What he failed to recognize early on was the impact of commodities, hedge funds, and Fed interest rate policy. Whenever the Fed raises rates, the stock market goes numb, because large institutional investors stay away. This time around, those investors put their billions into hedge funds, to get the promise of 40%+ returns. That alone explains the 2004-2005 doldrums. Add the spectacular housing boom/bust and you see why Dent's predictions went south. Now that the Fed has stopped raising rates and is apparently going to drop them, some of what Dent predicted still could come time. But notice that the title for the short book now says 2006-2010 rather than 2005-2010. The revisions just keep coming. I can't wait for the next one.

1 out of 5 stars Is Dent Such A Big Liar or Just that Stupid?.......2007-06-26

I really do not know what to think. So many people write books based on a positive premise rather than reality because they know positivity sells. There's nothing wrong with positivity, but it should be reserved for motivational speakers not investments and economics. We are talking about people's retirement funds here!

Dent does not say much of anything new that he hasn't already said in his previous books. He is just trying to cash in on a rebound from the Internet bubble collapse. What kind of value is there in predicting a stretch of 4 years of great market returns? Regardless, we have yet to see this spectacular market performance. I'll tell you why he did this. Anyone with common sense knows that extremes in the market are followed by compensatory reversals which may or may not last. What this means is that Dent (like many others) expected a rebound from the lows in the market merely due to normal stock market behavior. The fact that he has restricted it to 2010 tells you where he thinks the market is really headed--down.

NEVER BUY A BOOK BY ANYONE WHO HAS A VESTED INTEREST IN a BULLISH STOCK MARKET (THOSE WHO WORK FOR MUTUAL FUNDS AND WALL STREET). ALSO NEVER BUY A BOOK BY ANYONE WORKING FOR A HEDGE FUND UNLESS YOU WANT TO HEAR THAT THE MARKET WILL GO DOWN. THESE GUYS ARE ALREADY TAKINGYOUR MONEY IN TEH MARKET AND NOW THEY WANNA TAKE YOUR MONEY BY SELLING YOU BOOKS FILLED WITH DREAMS THAT WILL NEVER HAPPEN.

Don't waste your money on this book. Instead get some books that talk about how bad the economy really is and how it is going to get worse for many years.

                                      3 out of 5 stars interesting read.......2007-04-11

interesting read. I am still waiting for his predictions to come true...

1 out of 5 stars Dent in my wallet.......2007-04-07

If only I could express how much time and optimism I wasted after reading this book...

The fact is that the forecasts are wildly out of sync with reality, Dent's methods are proving to be nearly useless and market risks are actually on the INCREASE as I write this review.

Dent did not predict the real estate boom, he did not predict the commodity boom, he did not predict the 2000 bear market, he did not predict the dollar loss against the Euro... the list goes on. When he gets a prediction wrong, he just adds another "cycle" to his forecasts... the stock market turned to goo after 2000? "oh, well we discovered the 10 year stock cycle, and this PROVES that stocks should have gone down"... the Dow didn't go to 14,000 (as predicted in this book)? "Oh, we forgot about the commodity super-cycle". How many other 'cycles' does Dent not know about?

After reading this book a couple years ago, I'm sad to say I subscribed to his newsletter at around $400-500 /year, and while their knowledge of economic fundamentals was clearly solid, I can't say I made any money from his insights, or that his insights were any better than what I'd read on the Internet for free.

I'd recommend you take this book (along with everything else) with a grain of salt, and learn from a lesson that sinks in only after you've blown money... no one knows the future, especially Dent.

Harry Dent has another winner. Being the third in a series of books by Harry Dent, "The Greatest Boom in History: 2006-2010," tells us again how to save what wealth we have and increase it during the current economic and investment boom. Anyone with money to invest must read this book.

Please stay away from this version of the book. There is only 5 pages for this book and that too the description of the chapters in the real book. I lost my $4 by downloading this book. I would have given zero stars, if they would allow me to do so. But the least rating I can give is 1 star.
