Laugh-out-loud funny and insightful ... sometimes a bit TOO insightful --to a scary degree-- on the joys of a small, fairly pointless, cubicle existence.

This Dilbert book is well worth every hard-earned wage-slave penny; it is quite reasonably priced. Also, this Dilbert book makes an excellent, *fun gift* between coworkers & friends.

All Dilbert books are funny. This one is no exception.

Some Dilbert books are funnier than others. This one is pretty much a mid-range Dilbert book; it was definitely better than some, but I didn't find myself rolling on the floor laughing as I sometimes do with some others. (Unless, of course, I'm just getting jaded, which is possible; after seventeen books, the style of humor is no longer as startling as it once was.)

This is one of those books you want read because you liked so must the previous. You will keep reading it waiting for that incredible funny smell of absurd reality. And you keep it reading until the end. Yes, you will find some thing to laugh about, some others to realy cry. But a really, really fun joke? It will be like digging gold.

Cross-Populated? Excuse Me While I Wag..........2002-02-15

"Wouldn't that be like paying a burglar to guard my house?"

Excuse me while I wag. Anyway, if you don't believe that this is a good book, then perhaps I can convince you with some impressive words, "Syncrhonized incremental digital integrated dynamic e-commerce space."

As for cross-population, many of the strips in "Treasury of Sunday Strips" are in this book, but there's still enough stuff not in other books to make this book worthwhile. Read over the sample pages, or just take my advice. After all, (hypnotic tone) I'm not self-interested, I'm not self-interested...

What would you expect from the wrestler who once lost part of his ear in an in-ring accident? ...who took a 20 (or so) foot fall through a chain-link cage during a battle with the Undertaker? ...who became a hardcore legend by wrestling on thumbtacks, or in rings surrounded in barbed wire, or with folding chairs? The answer is surprisingly a delightful Christmas story.
Foley's imagination is in high gear as he tells the story of a very chaotic Christmas. Every character somehow is causing problems at Christmas. Then WWF wrestlers are called in and the chaos really kicks in.
The book features illustrations by fellow wrestler, Jerry 'the King' Lawler, who does a great job in capturing Foley's scenes. Lawler's work does more than just serve as a back drop for Foley's words. He helps bring life to them (although Foley's writing is quite lively in itself).
Foley does a masterful job in this book. After reading his 2 novels and discussing his writing at length with him, I wonder exactly what else is in his mind and forthcoming in print. Whatever it is, it won't disappoint.

A chaotic Christmas with the hardcore legend........2004-06-18

After the huge success of his first two books, legendary wrestler-turned-writer Mick Foley decided to diversify his writing style by making a children's book about his favorite holiday, Christmas.

The first thing you'll notice about "Mick Foley's Christmas Chaos" is the tremendous artwork done by commentator Jerry Lawler. I really had no idea that someone like him could draw so well, and I was suprised to see how much detail he put into all of the characters and background settings.

The book is very well written, as we've come to expect from someone like Foley. Taking a page from the likes of fellow authors such as Dr. Suess, every line in "Christmas Chaos" is cleverly and humorously used in a rhyming fashion. This is a great book for people of all ages in need of a good laugh, but my only complaint is the cost. I bought it around two years ago at the mall for about $18 (it was actually on sale) and was able to finish it in six minutes. Maybe the price has lowered since then, but I find it a little ridiculous to pay so much for something that is so short.

good for wrestling fans, not sure about children today.......2003-06-14

This is a children's book from professional wrestler Mick Foley. Foley is the author of two previous memoirs (Have a Nice Day, Foley is Good). The illustrations are done by Jerry "The King" Lawler. The idea of a children's book by a professional wrestler, not to mention one known for the level of violence that Foley is, is a little surprising and I was more than a little bit skeptical. Christmas Chaos is better than I expected.

Santa has been having some problems up at the North Pole. The elves are showing no respect (one is running around naked and mooning Santa) and the reindeer are beating on Rudolph. Everyone is filled with greed and Santa is in despair. In the end he calls up Vince McMahon and a bunch of WWF superstars come and save the day.

While the action is crude, it never goes over the line of what may be appropriate for children. Some parents may question the content, but in my experience (and the success of certain movies) this is what many children find funny, this sort of slapstick action.

One thing that must be mentioned is the inclusion of WWF superstars. While this was done cleverly and was written well, it is also extremely dated and will only become more so as time goes on. A truly good children's book will stand up over time, but I doubt this one will. Children will not recognize the wrestlers and in another 5 years very few of them will be recognizable. This hurts the ending portion of the book. Since I recognized everyone, I enjoyed this children's book and thought it was fairly clever and well written. I'm not sure what the reaction of children will be this year and in 5 years.

A Fun Diversion For Foley Fans.......2003-03-09

Christmas Chaos is Pro-Wrestling legend Mick (Mankind, Dude Love, Cactus Jack) Foley's first foray into the world of children's books after the mega-success of his autobiographical "Have a Nice Day!" As an older (32) reader, I bought this strictly as a Foley fan, since I have no kids of my own to read it to. On that level, it was a fun diversion; The art, by fellow wrestling legend Jerry "The King" Lawler, is smart and funny and well-rendered. The story itself is kind of weird: Santa begins to question the point of Christmas when his elves & Reindeer begin to act hostile towards him, and decides to cancel Christmas. The funny thing is, this behavior seems to have been brought about by watching WWF (Now WWE) Wrestling! Odd, considering this is a WWF tie-in book. The inclusion of famous-name WWF stars seems forced, but is thankfully brief, considering they contribute nothing to the actual story. With the questionable content, I don't know if I'd recommend Christmas Chaos for very young kids, but older kids will get the uplifting message at the end, and fans like me will enjoy seeing Foley & Lawler conquer a new medium.

A great gift.......2002-01-02

I find it more and more difficult the longer I've been with my boyfriend to find him a great Christmas gift. This year, Mick Foley made my task much easier with this book. Not only is it a needed and refreshing funny spin on the holiday, but it is also well illustrated and by Jerry "the King" Lawler no less. This book is great in terms of quality and pop culture value. Even though it's a children's book, any wrestling fan would love it, especially big Mick Foley or Jerry Lawler fans. Any child would love it. Anyone who appreciates a good story will love it, too. It's great.

Maxwell has done it again, but in a new way! Maxwell has written some of the classics on leadership and living, and he takes a fresh and basic look at life in this book. While he still uses his principle driven style of instruction, he strips away a layer and lets us into his life. In "Today Matters" Maxwell gives us insight into his "daily dozen." These are his twelve decisions made throughout his life for various reasons and the practices he associates with them. Phenomenal place to start for anyone looking to bring more discipline to their life or ministry. I consider myself an advanced "daily practice" guy and I found this book exciting and invigorating. His perspective on why today is so important and a plethora of other special insights make this book a must read. Dave Tilma

Today Matters is practical and well written, giving insights from someone who has lived many significant, meaningful days. This book will change your life-Best book on leadership........2007-01-23

This is by far the best book on leadership. It covers everything that one needs to know on leadership. Most book, as they cover leadership, talks about the attitude, action and discipline but John Maxwell has taken leadership to a greater level by incdluding health. As a nutritionist and working in a hospital, I see that most people forsake their health to succeed and then I watch them having to slow down to catch up to life and find life real priorities which is first our relationship with ourselves and with others. People forget, without you there is no leader, so if you forsake your health to succeed you will die not accomplishing what you intended to accomplish. LIke most leaders Maxwell learned the hard way, he had a heart attack that almost killed him. The book covers everything one needs to know, impacting your world everyday and not putting it off for later. Today Matters. What we do today impacts what we do tomorrow. This book was so good that I gave a seminar of leadership based on this book and got a standing ovation. Everyone wanted to talk to me. I encourage everyone to get this book and do the exercise at the end of each chapter.

Quick and Practical.......2006-05-06

This is the second book that I have read by John C. Maxwell, and boy am I glad I did. I am currently on my second reading of this book.

This book is the kind of book that you can review every so often to just make sure you are still on track, and firm up some decisions you may have made, but are letting slack.

I chose to read this book a chapter per day. This means that it actually takes two weeks to read if you don't skip a day, though it can be read MUCH faster. I just read it the first time through and didn't do any of the practical exercises that follow each chapter. I don't recommend you do it this way.

If I had to do it all over again, which I am doing, I would do the practical exercises as I came to them. I think you will get the most benefit by putting things into action. Start moving on them right away, and you will begin to see a change.

This book is very readable, it isn't dense at all. The material though simplistic, which is a good thing, can bring about deep changes if you apply it.

If you have read other books of the self-help, motivational type you might read an example or two that you have read elsewhere. This wasn't a problem for me, and all of the examples are very appropriate for the material presented.

I liked this book so much that I bought a copy for my Mother. I hope that she reads it and passes it on to the rest of the family. This seems like a book that would be good to read as a family, and would benefit from discussion. The sooner you get your children reading this book, the better. If they buy into it while they are young, look out world!

I recently attended a function that John Maxwell happened to be speaking at. He is a very engaging and insightful presenter. I had to pick up a copy of one of his books to hear more about what this guy had to say.

This is a well written and easy read. Anyone that reads this will come away with something. The book is well structured and I think it should be required reading for college students.

If you're feeling overwhelmed by all of the life's pressures, this book will aid in prioritizing. John Maxwell lays out some very useful techniques for managing the clutter in your life. More importantly, this book suggests that "the things you do today, will be realized tomorrow." Just buy it.

A friend loaned me this book by John Maxwell and after the first chapter, I put it down to go buy my own copy! I knew I needed to highlight the great, practical advice on how to live a balanced life that makes a difference. Leaders often forget to "feed themselves" and this book is definitely great food for thought! Maxwell's Daily Dozen will help you get a handle on your day to day living and in the process help you become a more effective and efficient leader. I have used his tenents in several motivational speeches in the last few months and in fact, used his book as a "speakers" gift at a recent conference. I highly recommend this book and the "plan for improvement" included in the last chapter!

John Maxwell wrote a power packed book on Why today matters and how to live better today so that tomorrow will be better than yesterday. Any person who is looking to grow in any area of life will be challenged, inspired and motivated to make some today changes. At the end of each chapter John gives clear guidance on how to implement what was written. The ending is awesome. The chapter on Growth was very inspiring. 12 things that matter today: Attitude, Priorities, Health, Family, Thinking, Commitment, Finances, Faith, Relationships, Generosity, Values, Growth. Wonderful book that really helps you focus on what is important. A must read for everyone.

I find myself listening to it again and again.......2005-04-04

The key concepts in this book for me were the following:
Settle critical issues once and for all - Then you will not have to revisit them daily. John Maxwell talks about how the earlier you settle the critical issues in your life the greater the potential for your success. Thus by avoiding procrastination on these key choices, you will no longer feel the guilty feelings associated with them.

The concept that the "pain" of discipline is
"momentary" but the benefit of it is long lasting (lasting the ENTIRE day - 16 hours of the day)was a revelation for me.

The funniest part was the morning prayer he included:
"Dear Lord - So far today I am doing alright,
I have not gossiped, lost my temper, been greedy, grumpy, nasty, selfish or self indulgent.
I have not whined, cursed or eaten any chocolate - however,
I am going to get out of bed in a few minutes and I will need a lot more help after that."

I highly recommend this CD. I find myself listening to it again and again, stopping it and jotting notes down.

Finally, I really found the values section in the 12th daily dozen to be unique and original. I haven't found anything like it in ANY other book of it's kind

John Maxwell once again captures the essence of how to change lives with his practical approach to managing "life". If you take action as recommended after each discipline, you too will have a life changing event. Even though John's 12 disciplines are his own, it's amazing at how many are also yours. It's worth every dime you might pay and every ounce of time you give it! I'm actually teaching the practices at my local church. What a difference "today" makes!

Well-known religious philosopher John Maxwell provides useful advice about family, finances, faith, values and personal growth.
