Store-bought patterns usually need a bit of finessing to take them from a general size to an individual's perfect fit. Sandra Betzina, the host of HGTV's Sew Perfect, knows exactly how to alter a pattern to compensate for just about every figure flaw or to accommodate any figure type. Fast Fit is packed with dozens of clear analyses of all the "problem areas"--from broad back to thin neck, sloping shoulders to large upper arms, big tummy to bowed legs--and step-by-step solutions to turn a standard pattern into something that corrects the fit in each area.
The introductory section explains how to take proper measurements, choose the right size, and approach the pattern-alteration process. Illustrations of altered patterns show precisely how to cut apart and reposition the pattern pieces, although some details may need a bit of interpretation since the patterns are shown quite small. One other drawback is that, easy as these fixes may generally be, they're not necessarily fast from the start, since Betzina recommends that you first make a fitting shell to highlight problem areas. (But once you've figured these out you can then apply the information to many patterns.) All in all, this is a good reference, and unless you know how to draft your own patterns from scratch, you'll probably benefit from Betzina's help. --Amy Handy
Book Description
Sandra Betzina's tried and true and easy to do techniques for creating clothes that fit and flatter your unique shape can be found here. Betzina hits the mark every time by offering innovative, simple, and straightforward approaches to sewing. Each fitting solution is illustrated with a step-by-step description of the pattern alteration and a photo of the correctly altered pattern. Fast Fit simplifies the usually complex process of fitting. The 200 color photos and 52 drawings add to make this book an essential resource for every sewing reference library.

Interesting and helpful.......2007-08-06
I really like the way this book is put together. You can find any area that you want to alter the pattern for easily and the instructions are clear and easy to follow. It is great for anyone needing to alter patterns for themselves or others.
A great INTRODUCTION to pattern adjustments for beginners.......2007-07-19
Okay, I love this book! I'm brand-new to garment sewing and the first pattern I sewed was such a disaster that it went straight to Goodwill!! The best thing about Fast Fit is that it is not intimidating and it gives a good overview of how to figure out what exactly your particular fitting problems are. I actually liked the cartoon photos, because they are by nature exaggerated and it made it very easy to tell where to look for garment wrinkles in the mirror to see if that was an issue for me. I discovered that I have big [...] (well okay, this wasn't a total surprise!) so I shouldn't use the full bust measurement to pick a pattern size, also that I need to make adjustments for a long torso and for my square and broad shoulders. I agree it's not the end-all book on the subject, but it's a good starting point for a beginner like me.
almost excellent.......2007-06-08
a quick reference book to correct patterns. I helps also to correct a few of skinny ladies' imperfections, which was quite a surprise in a world that thinks that round forms are a problem and too many bones showing are beauty!
I am absolutely happy of this book!
Ready-to-Wear fix-it.......2007-03-09
With the exception of her wrap knit top pattern, I'm not a fan of Sandra Betzina's patterns. They're just not my style. They're a bit dated and frankly aren't figure flattering. This book is a crystal clear exception. For those who prefer ready-made patterns who don't have a perfect figure, this is the book for you. I still have several patterns that I love and make my own alterations to them. I can't wait to try out her versions that are much simpler and easy to follow. I also sew for my mother and I expect that I will be making fewer alterations to the final product using the techniques in this book. Try and ignore the not-so-flattering color pictures that accompany each figure problem or you'll find yourself looking in the mirror a lot and asking, "do I really look like that"?
Never sew without it!.......2006-08-01
This is by far my favorite pattern fitting book. Every pattern you sew must be fitted--and differently for every person you sew for. Every fitting solution I have tried from this book turns out great. Each fitting solution in this book is given in one-paragraph summary form (the "Fast Fit") for the extremely experienced tailor, and then given in simple, numbered steps for the very beginner. In each fitting solution Ms. Betzina makes an extra effort to find the simplest modification that affects the fewest pieces of the pattern, unlike some alteration books that have you shredding the pattern into small pieces. She even gives you the sequence in which to make your modifications.
I often refer to her ease charts that tell how many inches each area of a garment should measure beyond the body measurement. She includes suggestions for how to modify knit patterns for woven fabric (i.e. where to add extra ease to make up for the loss of stretch). She directs you through taking body measurements, altering a fitting shell, making measurements on the flat pattern, comparing your pattern to clothes in your closet and making a pretest garment. Throughout the book there are little windows with helpful fitting tips, e.g. "To make length adjustments, alter both above and below the knee--not just at the pants bottom--to preserve the integrity of the pants or skirt style." There are also little workshop sections thoughout the book with special features, like "Adding Pleats," "Duplicating Pants You Love," "Creating a Princess Seam" (on a pattern where there was none), and "Sleeve Swap" for using sleeve designs from other patterns.
Most of the book is composed of specific fitting problems (like "Large Upper Arms," "Round Upper Back," "Rounded Body," "Thick or Thin Neck," "Small Waist," "Uneven Shoulders"), how to identify the problem and then 2 or 3 well-illustrated pages with step-by-step solutions for altering the pattern. My favorite is Ms. Betzina's adjustment for narrow shoulders which is simple and perfect--it adjusts the shoulders and raises the underarms and does not change the sleeve.
I can't say enough good things about this book, so I'll add a few more. The book is published with a sturdy hardcover and a spiral spine so it lays flat on the table so you can easily refer to it as you work. There is plenty of white space for your own notations or for post-its. There is a comprehensive index and even a list of the patterns Sandra wears in her photos that appear throughout the book. As I make each adjustment I actually learn the logic behind it and add it to my knowledge for the future. This book is the perfect link to grow from being an amateur sewer to being a tailor without a lot of effort.
Every sewer who wants their garments to fit should have this book on their sewing table. Well Done Sandra Betzina!

Excellent entry in the Clone Wars Adventures series.......2006-11-22
Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures is an ongoing series from Dark Horse comics that takes its inspiration from the extremely successful Clone Wars cartoon series. This inspiration is visible in both the short, action-packed nature of the stories as well as in the art style itself. Volume Five contains four new stories as follows:
1) "What Goes Up..." - Aayla Secura and the 327th Star Corps journey to the forest moon of Endor to investigate the disappearance of a Republic recon team. This is a great story, not least because it features Ewoks and also highlights a very amusing sarcastic battle droid. Each time I see Revenge of the Sith, I chuckle at the two lines the commander battle droid has on the bridge of the Invisible Hand when Grievous and the heroes meet. This droid captures that same attitude but takes it a lot further. Thumbs up for this tale!
2) "Bailed Out" - Another winner, this story follows a rescue mission to Metalorn led by Senator Bail Organa. The Separatists are holding a special prisoner and Organa must connive his way into the facility and attempt to help. I liked the notion of having a Senator support the war effort by directly using politics as a weapon.
3) "Heroes on Both Sides" - The Separatists abandon their allies on the Viidaav Mining Colony and trigger a weapon that will doom the whole planet. Unbeknownst to each other, a clone commander and a Viidaavian race to both try and stop the catastrophe. This story is told in an innovative mirror style where panels on facing pages show similar events from two distinct points of view.
4) Order of Outcasts" - Like Volume Four, this book ends with an Order 66 tale. Padawan Joc Sah is caught in the middle of the Jedi slaughter while trying to secure a Republic outpost on Ragmar V. Ragtag locals he initially thought of as the enemy suddenly become allies. This story shows the shift in thinking any Jedi surviving the carnage of Order 66 will be required to do in order to have any hope of staying alive under the Emperor's New Order.
Clone Wars Adventures Volume Five was a standout in this series. All four stories were strong and the first two in particular are worth taking a look.

Wikiality!.......2007-02-05
Truthiness can be fun and educational!
This is Seuss's finest hour...and did England sleep?
She was a noble and generous puglet and her name shall be carried by b'donk'donks and b'dink'dinks everywhere and for all time.
The definitive Lady... and a gift of G--, to boot.
She is an inspiration, and Dr. Seuss shares his discovery with us...everybody knows and nobody cares (that she was naked...because she was so noble)!
Now the story is told and perception becomes wikiality.
Not the best Seuss, but still a treat........2006-11-22
People who read this story with nothing but Seuss's children's books will probably be disappointed. The prose lacks the rhythm, charm and whimsy of Seuss's painstakingly constructed rhymes. However, for those who have read the out-of-print collection "The Tough Coughs as he Ploughs the Dough", this volume is possibly the quintessential example of prewar Seuss writing and artwork. The story, consisting of a series of absurd shaggy dog stories that actually have almost nothing to do with the original Godiva story, show Seuss both in his early artwork and in the last throes of his prose writing, before he gave over completely to rhyme and art. Don't go into this expecting "Cat in the Hat" style rhyme or brilliantly colored artwork. Instead, pick up the book and enjoy the last throes of 1930's intellectual whimsy as expressed by Theodor Seuss Geisel's gifted pen and brush.
Straight from the horse's mouth.......2005-12-16
After Lord Godiva is killed when his horse throws him, his seven daughters swear an oath forsaking marriage to the Peeping brothers until they have each discovered a "truth" about horses. Each of the seven Ladies Godiva struggles to learn something from their equine companions, each eventually composing a now common horse proverb.
This book was written in 1939 as an "adult" book, presumably because Dr. Seuss's whimiscal drawings of the nude Godivas would have been considered too risque in that era. By today's standards, these drawings are quite tame, and the stories are actually quite delightful. Dr. Seuss's fanciful tales of the origins of these proverbs is entertaining and his illustrations are pure Seuss.
An Early Dr. Seuss Gem.......2002-02-18
"A beautiful story of love, honor and scientific achievement" is how Dr. Seuss, with tongue in cheek, describes this book. Touted as Dr. Seuss's first book for adults, The Seven Lady Godivas was originally published in 1939 and reissued in 1987. It tells the story of not one, but seven 11th Century Lady Godivas. They are sisters sworn not to marry their beaus, the seven Peeping brothers (yes, Tom is one of them) until each of them discover a scientific truth about horses. They were driven to this oath by the death of their father during an experiment using a horse as a means of transportation.
The history is confused, but the fun never stops. Dr. Seuss's full page drawings (in red, black and white) illustrate every other page. The end papers are a fanciful illustration of the Godiva family tree. The text, though wordier than his childrens books and not in rhyme, is thoroughly Dr. Seuss. He explains the seven sisters preference for nudity by saying they had brains and were not given to vanity. He goes on to say "they were simply themselves and chose not to disguise it." Although this is a great summation of nudist philosophy, it doesn't say much about his regard for women who choose to wear clothes. Instead of scientific truths we are treated by the author to fanciful origins for seven proverbs about horses as each sister discovers her "horse truth" and goes on to marry her boyfriend.
If you enjoy Dr. Seuss, you will find these drawings and this story delightful. Although described as an adult book, children will enjoy the story as well. Today's young folks may not be familiar with all seven of the horse proverbs that Dr. Seuss relates in a book that is over 60 years old, but it should not deter from their enjoyment of this amusing tale. The drawings are not detailed enough to offend even the youngest of readers.
Not the typical Suess. Definitely for adults. Very humorous........1998-02-23
Begin with seven Lady Godivas and seven Lord Peepings; add the need for each Godiva to come up with a "horse fable" before being able to wed the Peeping to whom she is betrothed and Theodore Geisel has another winner! Definitely for adults but not at all off-colored. Another must for true Dr. Suess collectors.

The Seven Lady Godivas.......2000-12-19
A must read for any Dr Suess lover over the age of 18; it is truly meant for adults, but not off color in the least. Lets hope the publisher runs another edition for those of us who love an erudite Dr Suess.
An excellent adult fairy tale........1999-04-15
The Seven Lady Godivas, in my opinion, one of the best books ever written by Dr, Seuss. Yes, that's right! Of course, Theodore Gissel has a great appeal to the young at heart, but this book is a HOOT!
Book Description
Heaven's Gate, by comparison, was a party in Paradise. Some of cinema's legendary artists - renowned for their work with Fellini, Godard, Fassbinder, and Herzog among others - would unwittingly unite to create the greatest financial disaster in movie history: The Adventures of Baron Munchausen. Andrew Yule goes behind the scenes of Gilliam's epic and unravels, twist by agonizing twist, the contorted drama which saw the original budget of $23.5 million rocket to an astronomical $46 million - making it one of the most expensive features in history. Hardcover.

Incredibly Poor Waste of Your Time.......2006-02-06
This is the most insultingly poorly written book about the making of a film I have ever read.
However, it is the only book available about the making of Gilliam's film Munchausen.
If you need such a topic for your library, I guess you'll obtain it...though you have been warned.
"Surely this time there is no escape...." for Terry Gilliam.......2002-12-30
Terry Gilliam is the first to acknowledge that for each of his movies, he becomes the main character and their struggle in the story becomes part of his struggle to make the film. This overlap set an ominous tone that then went from bad to worse, from the frying pan to the fire and somehow a film came out the other side.
The making of the movie "The Adventures of Baron Munchausen" is told via Andrew Yule's interviews and research, almost a post-mortem after the near-death experience of the filmmaking process. Director and producer fought, crews walked or were fired, accountants and accusations flew, and tigers and elephants literally got out of control. Compared to "The Battle of Brazil" that was a skirmish and this was a world war.
For Gilliam fans, join the director in all his pain as he attempts to surmount and juggle language barriers, lethargic crews, bad weather, financial disputes, mysterious accidents, casts of characters fictional and real, and his own visions.
A darn good book about the troubles with Munchausen.......1998-07-09
If you happen to like this movie or just Gilliam in general then I would suggest finding this book. The author, Andrew Yule, takes around thirty interviews from people related to the movie and encompasses all of the delays and pitfalls associated with it. From trying to cast Marlon Brando as the King of the Moon to the self centered producers (Thomas Schuly) total lack of concern for the crew or anyone in general this book shows how one of the most over-budgeted films of its time($20 million over) became a flop.

SimCity 3000 Unlimited.......2002-11-07
I have had MANY computer games (about 20,ALL of them EXTREMELY complex.),but NONE have had problems like SimCity 3000 Unlimited.I am not able to save my games.
Popular game explored in depth.......2001-12-13
The popular simulation game has many fans and now with its third update comes a revised SIM City Strategy guide. This exhaustive revision comes on the heels of the original guide for the 3000 version of the game. The Unlimited SC3K guide still applies to users of the regular 3K, but now contains a more more in depth coverage of the Building Architect, the new scenarios, and the ins and outs of building the best cities. There are many redundancies which actually help the user of the game understand what's happening. Additionally, the guide also serves to educate users on the principles of real city planning. Considering the length of this volume, the reader may feel qualified to work in city hall after digesting it all.
For anyone who loves their SIMCity 3K this book is just the icing on the cake.

Book Description
“I have observed several hundred salespeople who were taught to use deceptive practices like ‘bait and switch’ and encouraged to play negotiation games with customers. They were so stressed by this behavior that they suffered from a high incidence of alcohol and substance abuse, divorce, job-jumping, and low productivity. In the same industry, I have observed countless people who had been taught to sell with high integrity. Ironically, their customer satisfaction, profit margins, and salesperson retention were significantly higher.” — Ron Willingham
If you’ve tried manipulative, self-focused selling techniques that demean you and your customer, if you’ve ever wondered if selling could be more than just talking people into buying, then Integrity Selling for the 21st Century is the book for you. Its concept is simple: Only by getting to know your customers and their needs — and believing that you can meet those needs — will you enjoy relationships with customers built on trust. And only then, when you bring more value to your customers than you receive in payment, will you begin to reap the rewards of high sales.
Since the publication of Ron Willingham’s enormously successful first book, Integrity Selling, his sales program has been adopted by dozens of Fortune 500 companies, such as Johnson & Johnson and IBM, as well as the American Red Cross and the New York Times. In his new book, Integrity Selling for the 21st Century, Willingham explains how his selling system relates to today’s business climate — when the need for integrity is greater than ever before.
Integrity Selling for the 21st Century teaches a process of self-evaluation to help you become a stellar salesperson in any business climate. Once you’ve established your own goals and personality traits, you’ll be able to evaluate them in your customers and adapt your styles to create a more trusting, productive relationship.
Drawing upon Willingham’s years of experience and success stories from sales forces of the more than 2,000 companies that have adopted the Integrity Selling system, Ron Willingham has created a blueprint for achieving success in sales while staying true to your values.

One of the best! .......2007-08-12
This is a great book filled with lots of practical ideas. The methods used in this book are sound and actually work. Learning to use the AIDinc. approach to sales makes the sales effortless. I would highly recommend this book for all sales professionals.
Achieve more with Integrity Selling.......2007-07-30
This uncomplicated process looks simple at first glance. The more one reads and applies the process, the more the incredible power of the process is discovered. Integrity Selling for the 21st Century gets to the real issues that cause consistent high sales performance. It is applicable for both new and seasoned performers. It clearly helps salespeople get out of the way of themselves-to really listen to, understand, and then provide solutions that meet the needs of others. It really is what the title says it is. That's refreshing!
What are you selling?.......2007-04-22
No matter what you sell, products or services, this book is for anybody who understand that selling is art, but it is also could be a wonderful experience for the customer and the seller. Selling is a win - win situation for everybody if not is not selling.

Integrity Selling for the 21st Century: How to Sell the Way People Want to Buy.......2007-01-12
I ordered this book for a number of my employees because it is geared to our philosophy of doing business.
His message of building relationships and bringing value to customers rather than high pressure selling is a good lesson for anyone in sales.
Selling the way it is meant to be.......2006-08-18
As I read this book, I was sincerely moved when I realized that many of the concepts I found in it reflected the teachings and trainings I've pieced together over the last 20 years of selling, training and managing.
Today, as the owner of PICKS Training, I specialize in helping others sell, lead and communicate in the global village. This book has put into wonderful words much of what I teach, and has given me even more Good to pass along.
For those who want to make selling a profession they can be proud of, buy this book and do what it says.
