Customer Reviews:
Extremely touching.......1999-12-14
Robert Sexton's poetry seems so simple, yet is so moving. His poems aren't long, but mean so much. In this book, his poems are about fathers, mothers, sisters, friends, and significant others, and combined with his painstakingly exquisite artwork, move me to tears each time I read them. Definitely buy this and share with anyone for whom you care deeply.
AN OUTSTANDING WORK! I WAS DEEPLY MOVED ,.......1998-12-27
For anyone with a sensitive heart, I cannot imagine a better gift than this book. The emotion which runs through these pages is so simply expressed and so genuine that it is almost possible to overlook the fact that this --- at its core --- is a wondrous work of art. There is a natural quality to Robert Sexton's prose and drawings that I have never experienced on paper before. Reading it; seeing it was like witnessing the best parts of my own life again, as if they had been lost in time, then suddenly carried back by Sexton's mind and heart and pen. I have begun to make a list of all of the people I haved loved in my life, and I plan to share this book with each of them.

Standard Fashion Illustrations, no inspiration here........2007-06-01
You know those books on the clearance table, the ones that look like the editor spent all of 5 minutes putting the edition together? Well, this is pretty much what you can expect. If you have an inkling of what fashion illustration, or illustration in general entails, this book will not move you, hard earned money is best spent elsewhere.
Amazing Book.......2006-07-31
Thanks to this book i show my work to the world, I have been taking many freelance stuff around the world. Also i met new people who is in this book and dedicated time and creativity to the fashion world.

Book Description
Ever since he was little, Ichigo Kurosaki has been able to see the spirits of the dead, so when a teenage girl materializes through his bedroom wall, this should be no call for alarm. Rukia Kuchiki is a shinigami, a member of the mysterious Soul Society that is charged with capturing rogue ghosts, and is hot on the trail of an evil spirit. But in the ensuing confrontation, Ichigo absorbs Rukia's powers, giving him the ability to not only see the undead, but to fight them as well. Now this 15-year-old high school student begins a brand new vocation: hyperkinetic, all-purpose ghost-busting. With enough attitude to make a grown ghost blush, Ichigo and crew are taking on the after-life one ghoulie at time.

Ichigo, Ganju, and... Hamtaro?.......2007-06-26
Tite Kubo, Bleach: White Tower Rocks (ViZ, 2001)
Everyone's still scattered around the city, but Ichigo is closing in on the tower, and Ganju and Hanataro are already there, torn between rescuing an oddly reluctant Rukia and having to fight her brother, the captain of sixth company. We're fourteen volumes into this series, and a pretty fair stretch into a long, long plotline, and usually at this point a series (even a good one, e.g. Yuyu Hakusho towards the end of the Dark Tournament series) would start flagging. Bleach, though, has enough going on to keep it interesting. I keep getting more impressed with this series. Great stuff. ****
A Mist-ifying Change.......2006-10-28
A good volume in a great series, it is nevertheless a victim of Viz's recent policy of censorship in their books. In the scene where Yuruichi changes into her true form, Viz added some smoke to the smoke ALREADY covering her "neckid bits". It's such a minor edit, which only makes it more baffling as to why they would even bother.
What? No one's reviewed this yet?.......2006-08-29
Orihime and Uryu have managed to evade capture for quite some time since their battle with the underhanded Jirobo... of course, that might have something to do with their new duds. One wonders just how long the deception will last.
Mr.Yuruichi has saved Ichigo time and time again, but he has a secret... two of them... and large ones at that.
At the tower, with escape almost within reach, Byakuya is bearing down on Ganju's rescue party and it's highly doubtful that he will show mercy. It's up to the ailing Ukitake to play politics in order to save lives, but will his intervention be enough?
Elsewhere, The mad scientist (and captain of the 12th division) Kurotsuchi has his eye on a new subject, Orihime! Can Uryu save them both before they're turned into fresh meat for the 12th's captain to tinker with?
Lots and lots of drama in this book, with a minimal of fighting. Many side characters gain prominence and it is through their deeds and words (and inner monologues) that we gain greater insight into our heros and villains.
Art is par for the course, and it's wonderful to finally see Mr.Yoruichi's human form in American print. Pacing is brisk, moving from each of the disparate parties as action (and cliffhangers) dictates.
Pick it up!

Book Description
Your wedding — the moment you’ve been waiting for your whole life — is tomorrow. The invitations have been sent out, the caterer and florist are lined up, and the bridesmaid dresses have all been exquisitely hand tailored. The location is spectacular and the officiant is your best friend. The weather is going to be great. There’s only one fear: that something unplanned and unexpected will happen.
With biting humor, twenty true stories share the side-splitting details of wedding mishaps and mistakes. A momentous event for all, weddings bring together people — who may not know each other or know each other too well — to create an idealized vision of the occasion. But different cultural expectations, emotional outpourings, jealous ex-lovers, rules of etiquette, and lots of champagne can blur that vision, making for laugh-out-loud experiences no one ever expected, yet everyone can relate to.
These funny women — brides, bridesmaids, guests, relatives, and strangers — know that wedding gowns can fall apart, that chocolate shavings will melt under the sun, and that dirty dancing isn't just a movie. They capture the essence of bad luck, bad taste, and bad decisions surrounding the big day in this witty, entertaining book.

What a relief! So funny........2006-03-14
Finally a book that doesn't tell you you have to be perfect. The writers in this collection are smart, honest and funny but they are not perfect and that's the fun. I have been helping my friend plan her wedding for the last year and this book was such a relief from all the cake tasting and dress shopping and diet worries. It's not anti-wedding at all, it just has a sense of humor about the whole thing. You have to read "Bridezilla"--it's so good!

"The trouble with the Oscar show is that it's too short," William Goldman writes more than once in these infectiously droll essays about Hollywood stars, box office roulette, vintage movie years, and the illogic of Saving Private Ryan. Any other writer would be in deep ironical mode saying that, but the great screenwriter (All the President's Men, The Princess Bride) and giddy movie enthusiast is hardly a "prevailing view" kind of guy. Wouldn't we have gotten Brando himself at the 1973 Oscars, he argues, if he had unlimited time to defend Indian rights to a billion viewers? Would anything have been better than that? Writing irregularly for New York magazine between 1991 and 1999, Goldman promised to explain "the Hollywood mind" to the rest of us--with the mantra always in front of him that "nobody knows anything." Which leaves him open to occasional free association. Gungha Din is "the most important movie ever made," he writes not once but twice. If Miramax is successful it's because the Weinsteins "live above the store." What do you do with Universal giving Sylvester Stallone $60 million after thirteen duds like Tango and Cash? "How long do you think you'd hold if you had those thirteen movies played over and over in a locked room?" Goldman asks. But while there's ephemera galore here, and nothing so very lofty, the guy speed-typing his interior monologues loves movies, and when he runs through the dumb things in Good Will Hunting or the great things about (his "all-time favorite") Cary Grant, just try putting the book down. --Lyall Bush
Book Description
William Goldman, who holds two Academy Awards for his screenwriting (Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and All the President's Men), and is author of the perennial best seller Adventures in the Screen Trade, scrutinizes the Hollywood movie scene of the past decade in this engaging collection. With the film-world-savvy and razor-sharp commentary for which he is known, he provides an insider's take on today's movie world as he takes a look at "the big picture" on Hollywood, screenwriting, and the future of American cinema. Paperback.
Customer Reviews:
Recycling day at the Goldman's.......2002-07-22
Yes, William Goldman is one of the most renowned screenwriters around but no, these essays have not aged well. If you want to read about handicapping the oscar races from five and six years ago, buy this book. But if you want some real insight into Hollywood, start with any other of the non-fiction books Goldman has written over the years.
Golden Goldman.......2001-02-20
William Goldman is a good screenwriter. When bad, he is awful. "The Ghost and the Darkness" was terrible, and "The Princess Bride" was so cutesy treacly sugary quirky sweet, I almost went on insulin. But his book here is deadly honest. I thought I was the only person in America who noticed the big breasted girl behind the old guy in "Saving Private Ryan." I thought I was the only person in America who kept wondering where the laughs were in "Shakespeare in Love." I, too, want to see vote totals for the Oscars. I disagree with many of Goldman's opinions of films: "As Good As It Gets" was so in love with its own ideas, it never let the audience in on the joke, "The Shawshank Redemption" is just a combination of every prison film since the 1930s' "The Big House," and Hugh Grant falling in love with the annoyingly insipid Andie MacDowell in "Four Weddings and a Funeral" showed what a dumb character he really was. But at least Goldman is brutally honest in his opinion of the films of the 1990's. This shows you can only take fluff entertainment shows like "Entertainment Tonight" with a grain of salt. Hollywood has been punishing the public for years with junk like "Independence Day" and "The Grinch," Goldman is leading the charge against the money men from Out There.
Quit whining, Goldman!.......2000-09-09
Goldman's ranting and raving will soon get onto your nerves, especially since he frequently shows himself to be a hypocrite. In several places he speaks of his dislike for special effect-filled blockbusters, then in other places he says how he loved movies like "Independence Day". It also seems odd how Goldman hasn't written a solid screenplay for some time now, and has written a number of scripts for those blockbuster movies, yet he whines about the "junk" screenplays Hollywood uses. (By the way, he's writing the screenplay for "Jurassic Park 3" - even though he voices slams against Spielberg here!) Everything to him seems to be Hollywood's fault, though he never mentions how even before "Star Wars", audiences were starting to stay away from movies like "McCabe And Mrs. Miller". He certainly never mentions how many independent films come out each year that critics love, but the audience doesn't go to. In short, the audience decides what movies get made. If Goldman is reading this, I dare him to answer these charges. But he probably won't - his next book will probably be more whines yet again about how the final votes in the Academy Awards should be revealed, how movies are "worse than ever", yadayadayada. Goldman, put up or shut up - not only for these charges, but the screenplays you write!
too much of a good thing.......2000-08-11
I've been a fan of Goldman's non-fiction since the original "Adventures in the Screen Trade", but I'm disappointed with his last two books. "Which Lie Did I Tell (More Adventures...)" paled in comparison with the original, but was still better than a lot of similar books. This one however is mostly a loss.
I read many of these essays when they appeared originally in New York magazine. They cover the years 1990 through 1999 and appear chronologically. Most of them fall into a couple categories: 1) a prediction of how a summer's movie selection will fare 2) a re-hash of the same season a few months later 3) predictions about one year's Oscars 4) a re-hash of that year's Oscars (with a side-rant about making the vote tallies public) 5) a discussion of who is the biggest star in Hollywood
The essays were great when they originally appeared, but now they lack (obviously) timeliness and uniqueness (since they all pretty much read alike). Goldman's near-copyrighted phrase is "No one knows anything."
Better luck next time.
A not-bad collection.......2000-08-10
Goldman is always compulsively readable. (If you doubt, track down "Adventures in the Screen Trade," "Hype and Glory," or "The Season," for me his best three books about show biz.) This collection -- and it is very much a collection -- is no exception. If you're a Goldman fan and you missed these short essays in "New York" magazine and "Premiere," the book is worth getting (though perhaps not for the hardcover price Applause is asking -- I'd wait for the paperback myself).
Some of the other generally positive reviews on here have made several negative remarks and they're all true. Embarrassing number of typos. Repetitive. Truly terrible book design -- par for the course with Applause. But I'll say this much: The book kept me a lot more entertained than Goldman's most recent book, "Which Lie Did I Tell?," a somewhat unworthy follow-up to "Screen Trade." And it contains, as one of the other reviewers mentioned, a massive smackdown on "Saving Private Ryan" -- perhaps annoying if you loved the film, but absolutely hilarious if you didn't.
The only serious flaw or bias I detect in Goldman's attitude is that he romanticizes the movie era when he first fell in love with movies -- say, the '40s and '50s -- and constantly uses the classics of his childhood as a stick to beat modern movies with. The fact is, probably there were just as many stupid movies back then as there are now, deservedly forgotten. Movies as an art form are still so young that it seems inaccurate to say they've gone downhill, when in fact there have been many peaks and valleys over the last 100 years. Goldman never seems happier than when he's saying movies have never been worse. (Then later in the book he says they've gotten worse still.) The fact is, there are movies getting made now that wouldn't have stood a chance 10 or even 5 years ago. So, when reading this autopsy on movies from 1990-1998, take it with a grain of salt. And enjoy.

Customer Reviews:
Great Advice For A Great Time!.......2001-12-20
This book revolutionized my parties. It is chockfull of practical suggestions for organizing a party, energizing your guests and making your party the talk of the town. I love how the author not only suggests great games, but has the games categorized by what kind they are and when they should be played. Lots of helpful advice on how to warm up your group. I was absolutely amazed at how ENTHUSED my guests became the first time I followed her advice and used the games to make them mingle, break the ice, split a part couples, and get them laughing. It is a hoot. Double thumbs up.
Loaded With Fun Ideas.......2000-12-23
If you're not inherently super outgoing but want to invite friends, neighbors, etc. to your home to socialize, this book will give you many, many ideas to choose from on how to create a warm, friendly atmosphere. Most of the icebreaker ideas and party games are practical and fun. This book is also great for school teachers looking for ways to break the ice in their classrooms on those first couple of awkward days. I confidently recommend this book to those of you who want to throw a party or have a get together, but are hesitating out of fear of what to do with your guests. It's truly a fun book and will bring people together.
A Definite Party Maker.......2000-09-28
The main reason I purchased the book was because I was out of ideas for good party games and activites. This book certainly solved that problem. It has a ton of things for great parties, not lame games either that people throw in just to fill space. This thing is 100% usable. And what else is nice its adaptable, and they show you how. Really great book worth every cent and more. I do have one problem with though. I only have one party to do right now and too many ideas !
A must have "Excellent Party Tool".......2000-08-01
It's so hard to get people together, once they are together you want to keep them occupied and happy. This book was my savior. I had fun gathering all of the supplies and making the games as well as playing them.
This is a great game book.......2000-03-17
This book has lots of good ideas and gives ways to adapt them or change them to suit almost anyones needs. In the back, the games are broken down by category (for ex, icebreakers, pre-party games, quiet games, hunts, etc...) and then another section has them organized by name. It has a nice section on party planning, things to think about when throwing a party and motivating guests that will be helpful to any newcomer to party throwing. There are no risque games but lots of them are easily adaptable and can be made less "family oriented" if that is your crowd. The majority of these games are for ADULTS not kids.
Book Description
The nine habits of highly organized people
Organizing consultant Kathy Waddill demonstrates how the simple act of being organized can improve your quality of life. In The Organizing Sourcebook, she presents nine organizing principles that can easily be applied to any situation, activity, or environment. The book gives you the tools for managing time; decreasing stress; and dealing with cultural, personal, and emotional change. Case histories illustrate how each strategy solved a specific problem.
Customer Reviews:
Strategies Crucial To Organizing Success.......2007-07-15
Kathy has done a great job defining 9 strategies import to organizing. She begins with understanding your environment and the challenges currently in your life and then teaches the steps necessary for thining out your belongs, setting your environment up to be successful, and the strategies to maintain it.
Common Sense Strategies.......2007-01-10
I found this book easy to read (although, a little repetitious) and the strategies outlined in the book are highly useful to get and stay organized. The book is full of examples stories, including sevearl short ones and one Full-blown-crisis, in each Chapter(strategy). The story format can be motivating if happen to see yourself in one of them. However, the story format may be boring if you are looking for specific tips on organizing.
The strategies are useful whether you are completely disorganized or evenly mildly disorganized. Quiz type questions at the back can help identify which strategy or strategies are giving you trouble, and you go from there. Since sustaining a good system seems to be the most difficult part, this review section will be useful for quick refresher if things start piling up again.
My opinion is that this book paired with another that outlines specific tips would be more useful than this book alone. (And I plan to get another, after I check out some more reviews:)
My personal experience with this book - most of what I read was common sense type stuff, and after reading, I realized I'm not as dis-organized as I though I was! The sections on sorting and weeding highlight that keeping something just because you "paid good money for it", or because "you might need it someday" are NOT good reasons to fill your valuable space with useless items. In the back of mind, I knew this, but hearing it from an outsider, gave me the extra push I needed. I went through every closet in my house, and had a much easier time tossing or donating things. I admit I had let myself grieve over a few sentimental items, but it feels great to have the space back. I'm moving on to living spaces and organizing my time better now that the storage spaces are is in order.
Disappointment..........2006-08-21
I certainly agree with some of the reviewers: the book is boring; reading long, useles stories is just time consuming. It is not supposed to be a momoir: it should be a MANUAL "how to organize your life". You cannot learn it from a book which is, in many ways, not very well organized.
Good Organizing Advice.......2006-08-15
Some things to think about from this book:
*If things are too hard to put back, they usually just stay out.
*Have a place for everything so you can keep everything
in its place.
*Store things as close to their point of use as possible.
*The more steps it takes to do something, the less likely
it is to get done.
You can read the first chapter if you go to the author's website.
just ok.......2006-08-07
The book is based on stories from the authors clients. It was ok but I was getting bored with all the stories.
