Excellent Intro to Design for the Fine Artist.......2000-12-22
Good books on design for the fine artist are hard to find, but this one is excellent. It covers the elements of design as well as light, color, texture, form, movement, perspective, tension and specific compositional structures.
It is not at all prescriptive like some older books on composition, but provides valuable insights into "the artist's design".
A wonderful tool for pictorial creation or analysis.......1999-05-25
Ms. Roberts has written a must-read tutorial for budding artists that also is inspirational for those who have been at it awhile. The book thoroughly explores the elements of pictorial design, using examples from the masters to illustrate the principles, without resorting to excessive text. A wonderful tool; I wish I had had it forty years ago.

Changed my perceptions of Beethoven!.......2007-02-08
Here's the Fine Arts taken from a profound psychoanalytical viewpoint. If you're a Freudian philistine, then this book will be arduous for you. However, if you've read your 12 volumes and pondered over "The Scream" by Munch, then this book will enrich your personal interpretations of modern art. Timeless classic that you'll not be able to put down. My favorite tidbit, the spider and Thanatos.
an unusual look at perception and creativity.......2000-04-21
The author of this book, who died in 1966, was an art studentin Vienna and later lectured in art in England. He wrote the book inthe sixties, when the Gestalt theory of perception was very much in vogue. His view of truly creative perception, however, is very different from the Gestalt view (which he argues against). He maintains that Gestalt perception is analytic in nature, and only begins to be used by children around the age of eight. However, younger children and artists use what he terms "undifferentiated perception" in perceiving the world--this form of perception is holistic and non-hierarchical. It makes no distinction between figure and ground, or between main subject and minor subject. He believes that on an unconscious level, we are all continuously scanning the environment in this way. However, only small children and some adults are open to the information thus gained. His arguments are compelling, and after trying undifferentiated perception myself, and raising young children who did seem to use it quite naturally, I was convinced that he was on to something. I've had this book over 12 years now and still refer to it when I'm thinking or writing about issues in perception, creativity, or consciousness. It has changed the way that I experience and think about my own mind.

wearable, collectible art form.......2003-07-02
I bought this book for my daughter who has an obsession with unique handbags. This was the perfect gift for her! Not only does it show hundreds of designs, the book tells the fascinating story of Judith Leiber and gives a glimpse into the creative mind of this world-famous craftsman
(crafts-w o m a n). The handbags she has designed are whimsical AND elegant, and are coveted by celebrities and socialites. The book is interesting, inspiring and a whole lot of FUN. I highly recommend it to anyone who appreciates imagination, creativity, and uniqueness. BORING it's not!
The Art of the Handbag.......2001-12-13
I read the book in my daughters home some time ago and just had to have a copy of my own. Unfortunately I had to purchase it at an inflated price as the book is out of print.
Ms. Lieber's story is such an inspiring one of a woman who is typical of what the American Dream is all about. She had a skill and took that skill to rise to the top. She is imaginative, creative, skillful and an unyielding artist. Her bags are now being copied by people but the fine artistery and quality are difficult to copy. She uses superior materials or use to. She is now retired and sold the business. The quality still prevails.
One of the best stories in the book is the one about the woman who called her friends to join her at her home for a dinner party. The hostess asked each woman to bring her Judith Lieber jeweled bag. The woman placed the bags down the middle of the table, surrounded them by votive candles and that was her center piece.
A clever idea with outstanding, glittery and beautiful handbags. I never thought I'd be able to own a Judith Lieber bag, but one of my daughter's can afford them and lavishly spoils her mother. My dream is to save enough money to purchase one on my own. They are absolutely beautiful bags and it is a terrific book.
Beautiful photographs.......2001-10-31
I purchased this book because I want to buy a Leiber bag - I was disappointed that it didn't have more bags pictured - there are so many! It wasn't so helpful in helping me find a bag I like - I still haven't purchased one!

My hubby & I have started reading Baby Blues 1 year ago & now we are truly truly addicted to the series. we absolutely love hammie & zoe..... keep up the good work ... it is indeed bringing tears of laughter to readers worldwide.
just like real life parenting.......1999-03-25
Ever since I became pregnant,I have read and enjoyed all of the Baby Blues books. Every so often, I even go back to the first book and start all over again...although seeing what Wanda and Daryl go through, I don't think I'm ready for my second child yet. (My daughter is 3 1/2) But I must say, this is true to life. If you're thinking about children, you must read the whole series to understand what you will be in for.

Very funny.......2005-12-28
Since three of the five reviews that Amazon currently features about this humor collection are written by its contributors, one might wonder if this compendium is a clunker, but that is most definitely not the case. In fact, this is a laugh-out-loud collection of great pieces, including illustrated gags as well as first-rate essays, commentary and satire.
I picked this up as part of a "book binge" following the recent Christmas holiday, which was unremarkable (thank God) but tiring, what with all of the food preparation, obligatory family gigs and tiresome office parties. It was definitely time for some laughs to lighten my mood and get me prepped for the "back to business" days ahead. May Contain Nuts did just the trick. It had me laughing on the subway, right along with the motley crew of screaming kids, ranting preachers, bad musicians and other lunatics that haunt the place. And, unlike other pastimes we could all name, this book offers a clean and relatively safe way to blow off some steam, the only danger being the potential to die laughing.
I highly recommend this collection and the other entries in the Mirth of a Nation series.
Best Bathroom Reading Ever!.......2005-04-29
I was thrilled to be a contributor to this great humor collection. But I was even more excited to read the whole darn book. With a wide range of topics and styles, "May Contain Nuts" is the perfect addition to anyone's bathroom reading shelf. And it even has some light satire directed at George W. Bush including my piece "And What's with That Round Ball?" If you enjoy that one, check out my new book "My Friend W" for more of the same.
Just Buy It!!!.......2005-03-23
I flipped though it and bought it on a whim. It is the best thing I have ever done for myself. This book is amazing!!! It's not just wonderful because it is a great pick-me-up... but it's also brilliant in the writing. Many of the things could be performance pieces or hit a wide audiance. Just read it you won't go wrong! Highly recommended
An Unbiased Reviewer Speaks from His Gut .......2004-10-19
Buy this book! Now! Don't wait another moment. I'm not just saying that because I have a tiny humor piece in this book. I'm not just saying that because I appear naked on pages 228-229. I'm not just saying that because John Warner's faux New York Times Book Section review of his first date is the funniest thing ever written. I'm saying that because I'm hungry. Seriously, I'm starving, man. Writers make jack-squat. For every book sold, I get a penny. If a thousand sell, that's $10 to Domino's and a pizza to me. Help a dude out. Buy this book!

Hello, readers! Under increasing pressure to be all things to all people, this new volume of Mirth of a Nation provides customized tables of contents so that each reader may hone in on those pieces most likely to suit his or her individual needs. One example is TV Guidance: We all know that, in their spare time, readers watch television. What you might not know, is that many writers in May Contain Nuts, in their spare time, write for television. In an effort to compete in the marketplace where everything is vying for your attention and dollars, the book provides a sort of TV Guide to its contents (albeit, only one short day's "viewing," as it were, of the 460 pages). Readers can now multitask, spending the "prime time" of our lives reading/watching a book/the television. Or, you may think of this as our friends here at amazon.com do so nicely, "if you liked [fill-in], then you'll like [fill-in]"). In other words, if you enjoyed this television program, surely you'll enjoy another piece of writing in this book by its creative genius or part-time staff writer.
You don't even need to check your local listings for times. An asterisk denotes stardom and the fact that the May Contain Nuts contributor is acting in, rather than writing for, a given program.

footnotes
1 Mr. Altes plays Brad Pitt's stand in; there are, according to the author, women in this country for whom this fact is an aphrodisiac.
2 Mr. Altes is the one who shot Charlie Sheen.
3 Mr. Altes is the one who saved Martin Sheen from being shot.
4 Mr. Altes notes that this has paid more bills than humor writing ever will.
There are also special interest tables of contents for gourmands, politicos, Googlers, and belle lettrists, as well as a very lovely recipe for nutcase brittle, which is, as food writers like to say, addictive.
Book Description
Feminist Film Studies provides an introduction to feminist film theory as a discourse from the early seventies to the present. Janet McCabe traces the broad-ranging theories produced by feminist film scholarship, from formalist readings and psychoanalytical approaches to debates initiated by cultural studies, race, and queer theory. This book thus documents a dynamic critical field, charting the numerous feminist interventions to critically think about how the social, political, and cultural contexts informed debates and shaped the writing of a feminist film theory.

Entertaining puzzles, terrible binding.......2006-11-22
This book has lots of kakuru puzzles and other puzzles that were new to me. I would say I am an advanced medium puzzle solver, and I have enjoyed the puzzles, but you must be warned, the book's binding is very poor. A page fell out on the day the book arrived. About a dozen have fallen out so far. I am not hard on books; the book was not mistreated.

Original Book is great, but this "editor comment" version is too much.......2007-07-04
The book is great. But it is frustrating to keep hearing the "editor's comment" and then "end of editor's comment" and then the comments from the editor. I appreciate the editor putting in his or her two cents, but it is frustrating when you get into the deep thought about what Napoleon Hill is saying, then suddenly, the message "editor's comment" disrupts your thought. To me, it is an ego trip of this editor by putting in too, too much of his comment. The whole CD 2 of the 9 CD is packed with Editor's comment. It is frustrated keep getting interrupted over and over by the "Editor's Comments" and I decided to vent online to let someone else know not to buy this version. If you want to buy, go for the original, the unabridged version of Napoleon Hill's Think and Grow Rich.
Your Life Will Never Be the Same After Think and Grow Rich.......2007-06-29
My heart is filled with gratitude for this wonderful resource! When I realized that I have complete control over my thoughts and actions - everything in my life became better. I recommend the book and the tapes as mandatory for every person who walks the face of this earth. Your life will never be the same! A+++++
Excellent.......2007-06-27
This book is basically the corner stone on which all self improvement books were written. This is a great book with practical methods that could be used throughout ones lifetime.
Very Pleased with the Content & Quality of Recording.......2007-06-20
I am very happy that I bought this edition of Think & Grow Rich. Having already read the original edition, I could certainly feel the difference in the effect the book had on me where-in I could relate the principles to the real life examples around me (rather than something that happened in distant past, when I was not even born :-))
Except for a minor flaw in CD - 8 where a 2 sentences are repeated respectively, the quality of the recording and oration is excellent.
