Fantastic!.......2006-01-07
Ideal for people who wish to be bedazzled by colours, but in a sensible manner.
I disagree on the previous review!!!.......2002-10-24
This coordinator helped me in ways that reflect its use. Its NOT designed to create infinite color combinations but uses the colors at the core of its spectrum and creates a huge amount of shades and combinations....certain colors that look wrong together in a paint store, appear more appealing in this book...
Im very impressed with the layout and would tell anyone thats interested in blending and comparing and understanding the nuances and meaning of certain color combinations to use this as a tool!!....
The Same Color Combinations Repeated Too Often!!.......2002-09-05
This color book is not as helpful as I would have expected. There are many color combinations in each chapter. But if you carefully review all of these color combinations through out the book, you will discover that most of these color combinations have been repeated in each of the different chapters. This book was a very big dissapointment to me! This is my second negative review of this book, but it appears that I mentioned price in my original review, thus that review wasn't listed here.... Now, after reading the rules, I'm re-writing my review.
I have bought many, many books at Amazon[.com], and I must own practically every book I can find on the topic *color*. I must honestly say, that I was very disappointed with this guide on "color combinations"!! Every one has a different view on books and I respect that some people might love this book. But, I feel that other people should also hear opinions such as mine. If I had read more reviews, I might have found that this book wasn't the correct book for me! I do hope that this review does get listed here!
If you are looking for hundreds of color combinations, maybe then this isn't the book for you. If you find that you need a quick & handy book on color combination, then maybe this book is what you really are seeking. I did tear out all of the color sheets and unfortunately I found many, many of the same colors were repeated in my stack of tear outs. Plus, I found many of the color combinations repeated in the various chapters, also! I had been using this book for decorating my house, but I found that there weren't enough color combinations contained in this guide to decorate in my preferred style which is French Country. Maybe another person will find this guide more useful then I did.
Book Repeats the Same Color Combinations Over & Over!.......2002-08-31
I own many art books on color for interior design, fashion, desk top publishing and books on color for the artist and colorist. This book is over priced for the information and color samples which you recieve. I followed the instructions of tearing the samples out. I discovered that of the 50 or 100 samples that I removed from the book, that the colors of these samples were repeated over and over.
In the end, I might have received maybe 12 to 15 different distinct colors in my samples. There were at least 6 or more of the same color samples repeated in my stack of color samples. The same color combinations were also repeated over and over in the book, i.e., for the chapter on Red, you would have combinations of that red with other colors, say, Blue as one of the colors in the sample group. Let's call that group sample group "A", for clarity in my explaination. Later, when you got to the Chapter on Blue, that same sample group "A" (consisting of that Red and Blue, etc.) occured again. The same small set of a dozen or so of the color groups were repeated in the various chapters of this book.
The book is cute but not worth $28 in my humble opinion. It would be much more useful and cost effective to buy a color wheel and look at the various color combos. In this book, you're getting only a dozen or so unique color swatches and then the swatches are combined to form a dozen or so color combinations. Then these color combinations are repeated in the chapters that follow.
A very handy guide for decorating and matching colors.......2001-08-22
This has been the most helpful book I've discovered for matching colors as I spruce up my house. Flipping through all the color combinations gives me great ideas, then the really cool part about using the tear-out color strips to match my couch, then taking them with me to the store to match to the perfect carpet! No need to cart the whole book with me. I know it will also come in handy next time I go clothes shopping too. His other book, Dewey Color System, about color discovery in your life and understanding yourself through color sounds funs and fascinating - I can't wait to get it too!

Yesterday I ate two free meals, took two free shuttles, made a bunch of personal copies on someone else's machine, received a comped CD in the mail and saw the Stereolab show from the VIP section while sucking back complimentary top-shelf drinks.

In this book, English lays out the kind of financial advice we all need. I mean, who really cares what color your parachute is or where your cheese is? useful tips.......2006-07-01
I already practice many of the ideas put forward in this book, but still found it very useful. And funny too!
Great book...if you're a felon.......2006-05-26
I got this book based on the great reviews for frugal tips. Unfortunately, most of the LEGAL tips are obvious (i.e., use the library, shop thrift stores, go to the matinee, etc.) while the rest of the book espouses thievery.
You'll hear such "great" tips as
* stealing the bagel delivery bag from someone's steps
* finding a "bug" in your food after you've eaten half so it's taken off your bill
* getting a fake student id for discounts
* living in illegal housing such as a warehouse or office building (!)
* cutting the price tag off an item and telling the cashier it didn't have a price in the hopes of getting it cheaper
* telling the bartender that you "spilled" your last drink so you can have another free
* how to rip off cable companies
...and so on.
I'm shocked that so many of the great reviewers here seem to agree with his "tips." Sadly, there seems to be a market to whom this book will appeal.
I think "Party Like a Rock Star" should have been named "Party like an Egocentric Sociopath Who Thinks Laws Don't Exist for Him." Oh wait, I guess that's the same thing.
Not just for mid-20s slackers.......2006-04-09
This book gives many ways for people to save money on their rock and roll life-style.
The single best thing to do is to visit as many websites as possible, for bands, clubs, art galleries, etc, depending on your interests. While you're there, look for freebies or other discounts, but sign up for their e-mail list. The vast majority of messages received will be little better than spam, but there could be the occasional gem with a subject line like, "Free admission and free dinner." Forget clothing trends and visit your local thrift shop (the book even tells the best time of the week to visit). There you can buy a few pieces that can be mixed and matched, plus a funky T-shirt or two. Then you can go crazy with accessories.
Have you visited your local public library? Aside from books (not just bestseller fiction) they also have CDs, DVDs of classic movies, and talks and lectures on a wide variety of subjects, all for free. Exercising to get rid of your ghostly, all-night-partying skin color, is a really good idea, but you do not have to spend a lot of money joining a gym. An effective, low-tech workout can be done with regular, household objects, but the first step is getting off your butt.
In the area of making money, if you have something autographed or unique, sell it on eBay. Focus groups are fun and easy (after you are accepted, which is the hard part), and the pay starts at $25 per hour. Become a house/petsitter, or rent your place for movie shoots and commercials. Have you ever thought of renting yourself as a designated driver for party people, or renting your body to science by taking part in medical research studies?
This is a really eye-opening book. The best thing about it is that it is not just for mid-20s slackers. The ideas in this book are for everyone, regardless of age or lifestyle (who does not want to save money, if possible?). It is very much recommended.

Awesome defined........2005-10-20
This is a GREAT collection, a sign of things that SHOULD come about with more frequency, and more relevance to both universes. My personal favorite story in this book was Sliver Surfer/Green Lantern. Not only was the story great, but it also "worked". It was totally beleivable as an event spanning two universes, which the other stories in this book fail to do. They simply....place everyone in the same universe. Silver Sufer/Green Lantern actually describes a plausible scenario for everyone to be interacting. It should be in the continuity of both universes (but, is ignored, unfortunately).
If only DC and Marvel could team up to do a monthly series about universe-spanning threats.
Lots of Galactic Heralds... .......2005-08-09
I haven't gotten the other crossover books yet but this one was decent. It isn't earthshattering but the combination of entities goes relatively smooth.
The first story deals with GL Kyle Rayner , Silver Surfer , and Thanos among others. Kyle is in the time period of still being relatively new to the Ring , and Hal Jordan has a point in this issue as Parallax.
The second story has Batman and Spiderman teaming up to deal with the Kingpin and R'as Al Ghul. I felt Spiderman's comedic tone was great around Batman in this story.
The third story deals with Darkseid and Galactus. I'm quite interested in the Darkseid character and his interaction with Galactus is very good. Orion has a fierce battle with Silver Surfer and they give that one a definative winner.
The final story deals with Galactus , Superman , Cyborg , and the Fantastic Four. Cyborg , Galactus , and Silver Surfer are characters that cross over multiple stories in this book. Galactus and Cyborg get a nifty send-off from the Fantastic Four plus Supes. One neat point about the Fantastic Four is that the young child has toys and fanfare of Superman that I remember seeing in issues other then this one.
Overall I thought it was an enjoyable book and the price was good. Hope this review helps because the other ones have basic descriptions and this one didn't.

I bought two books of Mr. Twains quips; I did not need to........2006-11-11
This was the second book I picked up and though it is essentially the same as "The Wit And Wisdom of Mark Twain: A Book Of Quotations" (Dover), it is just as good. Everyone (American) should read Mark Twain, pick a book of quotes and get the flavor of his unuique humor.
The great American humorist .......2005-12-04
It is always a pleasure to read Mark Twain. He is the rare writer who simply sees the world, ( and hears it) in a humorous way. While his pessimism at human nature can at times seem exaggerated his perception of human fault and foible is so precise that it rarely fails to hit the funny bone.
The man who wrote to the paper that published his obituary ' that the reports of his death are greatly exaggerated, was maybe the sharpest of all the great American writers.
It is possible to prefer a cheaper, more full , less picture- rich edition than this little volume, but this little volume still has enough Twainisms for no small number of chuckles and laughs.
A Near Sub-Microscopic Volume.......2001-11-27
The book is hardcover and has a very nicely done dustcover. But it is far smaller and thinner than a paperback novelette. If I had known that this book was so small and had so few quotations and so little substance, I'd never have bought it. For about ($) dollars less you can get the paperback Dover Thrift Edition of Mark Twain quotations, "The Wit and Wisdom of Mark Twain: A Book of Quotations." It won't be as pretty, but it will deliver more substance.

Book Description
With commentary throughout by Julie Andrews, John Russell, Cameron Mackintosh, Simon Callow, Ralph Steadman, Michael Blakemore, Louise Kerz Hirschfeld, Tony Walton, Lynn Redgrave, Barry Humphries, Peter Shaffer, Julie Christie, Kevin Brownlow, Nicholas Wright, Mel Gussow, Sheridan Morley, and Al Hirschfeld. That Al Hirschfeld drew New York and that Hirschfeld drew Hollywood is hardly news. But it will come as a revelation to even the artist's most ardent fans that in the Hirschfeld archive over five hundred works are dedicated to his British subjects. Until Louise Kerz Hirschfeld connected all the dots, evidence of the artist's life-long Anglomania had remained dispersed among hundreds of portfolios in different locations. Mrs. Hirschfeld has convened the first-ever reunion of actors, directors, playwrights, politicians, publicans, musicians, enough to gloriously fill a new volume populated with nearly eight decades of Hirschfeld on Great Britain, or as we have come to think of it, Hirschfeld's British Aisles! Here are the fabled luminaries of the West End: Gielgud, Richardson, Olivier, Coward, Guinness, Scofield, captured in their moments of stage glory by the only recording device allowed in the theatre: Al Hirschfeld's pencil. Also includes Peter Ustinov, Gertrude Lawrence, Rex Harrison, Jeremy Irons, Julie Andrews, Jonathan Price, and others. Even Twiggy, the only human thinner than Hirschfeld's lines, makes an appearance.

AL HIRSCHFELD ALWAYS DRAWS RAVES. AND THEN SOME!.......2006-02-01
All hail Hirschfeld, and, more importantly, all hail this trio of tomes featuring works by the premier theater and entertainment illustrator of the 20th century. For decades, Big Al's works adorned the cover of Sunday's New York Times Arts and Leisure sections, sketches celebrating plays, musicals, movies and celebrities gracing Gotham that particular week. The bearded, rotund artist (sort of a secular Santa for show-biz folk) was ubiquitous at opening nights in and out of town. And, of course, each week, there were the "Ninas," his daughter's name, hidden, sometimes once, sometimes up to eight times, in each sketch. (The number next to his signature would clue us in on the number of times Nina's name was hidden.) Cross-country phone calls wailing, "Where's the last Nina?" ensued on many a Sunday afternoon.
Nina-searchers can now glut themselves on Hirschfeld's British Aisles, a collection culled from the New York Times; as a special treat, there are welcome commentaries from such big name Brits as Julie Andrews, Dame Edna, Sir Cameron Mackintosh and Lynn Redgrave.
A veddy nice job, but the real treats are Hirschfeld's Harlem and The Speakeasies of 1932. In Harlem, we can see the artist's style develop; before the detailed line drawings we have come to expect came almost impressionistic pencil shadings, at once more personal and mysterious, more abstract, and evocative and startling in their originality. Harlem has, as well as several historical essays, text by a band of authorities, including Bobby Short, Lena Horne, Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee and Savion Glover.
The Speakeasies of 1932 is a fascinating look at the dives and divine watering holes of that noble experiment, prohibition. Sketches of bars, bartenders and patrons, along with a written description of the joints, are included. Added to this fizzy mix are drink recipes from each bar; we should, perhaps, avoid the cocktail simply called "Smoke," from an establishment called O'Leary's on the Bowery. The principle ingredient? Two cans of Sterno.
Art should teach us something about the past, about ourselves, about our society. But it should also be fun. Al Hirschfeld accomplished all of this with pencil, pen and ink. If you aren't familiar with his work, meet this terrific triumvirate. And if you are familiar with dear Al (and Nina), then enjoy a reunion with old and treasured friends.

Book Description
Milton Babbitt, Arthur Berger, and Ross Lee Finney have, during long and distinguished careers, often commented upon the state of contemporary American music and have been unafraid to speak plainly about the dangers in an incresingly musically illiterate and commercialized society. Throughout the pages of "Musically Incorrect," their essential and uncompromising integrity and their disdain for the merely fashionable and expedient are abundanty manifest. Comprised of interviews with Babbitt (by Charles Wuorinen) and Berger (by Ross Bauer), and a moving memorial tribute to Finney (by Roger Reynolds), "Musically Incorrect" brings to a the reader the wisdom and insights of three of America's great musical citizens.

Ahead of the Leading Edge.......2004-05-30
Miles's ideas will not be for everyone. Read the book any way. Some of your opponents will adopt these avant garde methods (or similar but less extreme notions from Bergen and others). Those folks will bushwhack you if you do not understand what they are doing.
More importantly, seeing a radically different view on competitive bidding can drive a dialogue with your steady partner. Since competitive bidding and defensive play often stand among the weakest links in a partnership, that dialogue cannot hurt. Maybe, you'll simply firm up your current agreements without adopting anything Miles describes, but the dialogue will have served a valuable purpose.
Competitive Bidding in the 21st Century.......2000-10-31
Fantastic Book!! Marshall Miles is at his best when he tackles the most difficult area of Contract Bridge - Competitive Bidding. His book is the latest in a line of excellent resource materials for the advancing player and covers all aspects of competitive bidding. Miles introduces a complete competitive bidding system, which taken as a whole, will answer many of the questions a partnership might encounter during a session. It is well laid out and covers each aspect of competitive bidding in a detailed manner. He starts with some interesting comments on overcalling with 4 card suits, details how both the overcalling and opening sides could deal with various situations including when "Not" to negative double and ends with a chapter on various "Gadgets" available to the serious competitive bidding partnership.

Learn about accounting legerdemain .......2007-04-04
The great thing about this book: not only will you learn about accounting prestidigitation from the world's expert in this subject (Schilit's forensic accounting firm, the CFRA, is used by hedge funds worldwide to find problem companies), you can actually learn pretty much all there is to know about corporate accounting and financial statements. I found his explanations tremendously lucid; easily understood by an intelligent person who can add, subtract, multiply and divide. What is more; he made accounting not only accessible, but also somewhat exciting; not an adjective that generally describes accounting. He makes finding the cheating companies a jolly detective game of "spot the weasel!"
Who should read this? If you are a serious investor; someone who treats investments like something other than gambling, this is an absolute must. I'm not talking about speculators; you can speculate well without this stuff (though you can speculate better with it), but for investors you can't afford to be without it. This will teach you how to read a company statement, and a 10-k. Even those who have a more casual interest in investing or business will likely find this an amusing and rewarding read.
Please Release A Third Edition!!!.......2007-03-29
This book is such an excellent review of accounting practices. It is like reviewing everything that was important from two semesters of intermediate accounting in an easy-to-read 264 pages. And the style of the book delivers something that there wasn't enough of in school - application. Real-life stories of companies who use or have used questionable practices and how it has effected their business. The only weakness in this book is that it is now too old. It has a summary of Enron (Schilit must have understood what happened there before Ken Lay even did), but it still lists Arthur Andersen as one of the big five firms. No mention of Tyco's [...] or Sarbanes-Oxley. Please, Please, Please Revise This Book! It is great!
Bible of Accounting BS.......2007-02-07
Wether you are an investor hoping to not be deceived or a CFO hoping to BS yourself up a bonus this is the book to read. Great examples to reinforce a simple concept. That its easy to make profit go up or down by simply moving income and expenses around.
My only gripe is I would like to have access to the service the author works for but it doesn't seem to cater to retail investors. Too bad.
Fraud detection.......2007-01-24
I loved this book and found it difficult to put down. I purchased it for a class I'm taking but I've already read it cover to cover before the first class.
Very Good - Highly Recomended.......2006-10-18
Buy this book and read it. I was looking for a professional, yet easy to read book and this is it. This book will improve your self confidence in approaching financial reports and understanding the numbers.
