A FINE ADDITION TO ANY FANTASY LIBRARY.......2007-04-25
I dabble in fantasy art, being much better at looking at it than actually creating the stuff myself. I did enjoy this work. While I will never be as good as the work displayed in this book, I use books such as this for inspiration and motivation. This work is well done. It gives some good, basic tips in developing this particular genre of art. It would be difficult to say if this work is good for beginners or if it is only for the advanced student. We all have our own level. I personally found it helpful, interesting and quite motivating. If nothing else, it is fun to thumb through and just look at the wonderful pictures.

Great for amateurs and professionals alike!.......2007-02-09
I have an ever expanding library of art books focusing on techniques for drawing and painting. This by far is one of the best I have found. It covers ever medium from oils to computer aided illustration, offering insight into seeking sources for inspiration, planning and design, and final implementation. The author provides examples from well known and well respected artists, helping both the professional and amateur develop their skills. I would recommend this book to anyone who is seeking guidance for their art.

Book Description
Written by cultural historian and fashion academic Caroline Cox, Lingerie: A Lexicon of Style explores the fetish and fun of underwear, referring to influential designers, historical trends, and other factors that continue to shape how we perceive and wear lingerie. A spirited, provocative, and thoroughly informed examination of ladies undergarments, Lingerie is a romp through more than 200 color photos accompanied by sparkling text that makes even the G-string seem faintly erudite. Begining with that most controversial item of feminine garb, the corset, Cox explores just how far this confining contraption has progressed over the past 200 years. The bra likewise comes under scrutiny in a witty appraisal of its iconic appeal.Panties, stockings, and suspenders; slips, peignoirs, and camisoles; and athletic-inspired vests and briefs are all covered (and uncovered) in an expert, artistic, and elegant fashion. In Lingerie, Cox gets to the crux of the evolution of erotic style. AUTHORBIO: CAROLINE COX is Pricipal Lecturer in Cultural Historical Studies at the London College of Fashion. She broadcasts regularly on fashion for the BBC.

One of the best books of its kind.......2002-10-24
This book had got tons of excellent pictures and articles. It covers all items of the lingerie family; everything from the corsets, bras, camisoles, to the panties. It serves well either as a reference book or as a coffee table piece.

It’s the writer’s life for Snoopy!
The world’s most talented beagle has found a new career—as a writer, of course! The Literary Ace works feverishly on his typewriter, day and night, atop his doghouse. And while Snoopy is busy writing the next great American novel, you can be sure that the rest of the Peanuts gang will try to get in on the action—especially that “round-headed kid,” Charlie Brown. ’Cause it just wouldn’t be a story without some great characters—the ones right under our favorite doggy virtuoso’s nose!

Brings smiles when needed.......2007-05-22
This was recommended to me by a writer friend. It didn't disappoint me. Now have it on corner of my desk for those trying times when smile or laugh is needed.
A Real Life Snoopy Story.......2006-06-23
From the age of early TV broadcasts of peanuts, I had an inner joy of Snoopy, and my dream came true playing Snoopy in "You're a Good Man Charlie Brown", But when Charles Schultz pasted away on my birthday, I had a sad memory to follow me always, BUT the good news is ANYTHING to do with the publishing of Peanuts is worth the price. This book holds it's own in the writing of Schultz, the beagle can do no wrong in my eyes..
Title is NOT Misleading!.......2005-09-21
My wife teaches grad students how to write & research publishable articles and BOOKS. To liven her handouts we have been collecting the "Dark & Stormy Night" cartoons from the daily Classic Charlie Brown in our local paper, The News & Observor.
Then I found this title on Amazon and ordered it for its Cover since the daily strips are in B&W; despite another reviewer's comment that it only had a couple of Snoopy writes a book strips. That Reviewer was WRONG!
This book has two 3-layer Sunday strips plus 10 single layer daily strips; in other words a bargain to assemble a fair use collage for the 20+ I had already "fair used" from the current N&O for a "Snoopy et al write books" compendium.
In other words, Duggan's Law of Scholarly Research applies to the previous reviewer.
Definitely a Five-Star Item for the 1994-95 Charles M. Schultz affectionado.
Fooled by the Title!.......2004-03-18
Ok, for some reason, possibly by the title, cover, and back description, I got the idea this book was going to be all about Snoopy's attempts at the great American novel. Though there are a couple such strips, it is the entire 1995 year. But that ultimately didn't matter.
Full of the usual humor only Schulz could think of, there's the strips that make you laugh lighty, some that make you howl (Conrad, get his beak pierced?), but always make you smile. Good compilation, as usual, and worth the purchase if you're a fan of the strip.
Can't wait for the first book in the new series to come out though!
Finally, the 1995 Year of Peanuts is Chronicled!.......2004-03-05
Since the Peanuts series ended in 2000, Ballantine Books have been issuing compilations of the last years of Peanuts in reverse order (1999-2000 first, then 1998, 1997 and 1996). But for about two years I have waited for a book with the 1995 strips, which would complete their series (earlier years were compiled by other publishers). But in this book, all of the strips from 1995 are published. The strips aren't the best in Peanuts history (I think Schulz did his best work in the 1970's), but they still are interesting to review. This was a period when Schulz did away with his typical four panel weekday strip and mixed things up (with many of his strips being just one large panel).
Since the new Fantagraphics series, which will publish all of the Peanuts strips in order over a 12+ year period won't get to the 1995 season for about 10 years, this book is a must for the Peanuts collector.

Buy it!.......2003-05-24
Throughout his career as Charlie Brown's dog, Snoopy took on many important projects. Periodically, he could be seen beginning work on a new novel, which invariably began with, "It was a dark and stormy night." This fun book shows Snoopy's work, from beginning the project, through his finding a publisher, and on to the inevitable autograph parties. As an added bonus, Snoopy's whole novel is included for the reader's perusal.
As with all of Charles M. Schulz's work, this Peanuts book is extremely funny. I mean, it stars Snoopy, what can be better that that? This is a great Peanuts book, and a nice addition to anyone's library. If you can buy it then do so, you won't regret it!
Snoopy the struggling author.......2002-04-23
Snoopy is trying to write a book. He starts with the phrase "It was a dark and stormy night," and it just keeps getting better from there! Snoopy makes a great author! He's so cool sitting on his doghouse with his typewriter! Good job, Snoopy!

USC is Truly Hated.......2005-01-05
This book makes so much sense. If you haven't read it, I encourage you to do so, especially if you are a USC student. You will mostlikely want to transfer out and go to a better school, perhaps one nearby such as UCLA or Loyola.
USC is a good place to pay for hookups without really working hard. I recall the Walmart heiress graduated from there and now it has been dicovered that she got by without doing any work...and of course USC is now pretending to be on it and will revoke her degree only because her ignorance (the ignorance of their product) was unveiled.
I hate USC.
Roots of resentment towards USC.......2004-10-19
College football aside (USC is #1 at the time of this writing), USC is a big target for derision by most. One thing these people (many from that "other" school) don't understand is the level of spirit Trojans have for their own school. The other school has admittedly better facilities and is better staffed, but upon graduation the relation between student and school is severed. Trojans support USC because it's USC, but students of "the other school" only support it because of its lofty collegiate ranking. This comes to no surprise because students admitted to "the other school" thru affirmative action, or simply choose "the other school" because it is cheaper, is unlikely to give a rat's rear end about the future of it. (after all, "the state of California" will support it, right?) In order to divert the attention from the lack of devotion in the student body, this other school must perpetuate lies about USC, such as that it is the only school spoilt brats can get into, and spend all their free time cheering their school on. Perhaps one day these disparaging people (and there are many of such people, since with 300+ class sizes at "the other school" some have inevitably stumbled across this page, mindlessly agreeing with every anti-USC comment) will realise that using food stamps to pay for tuition doesn't mean that you're self made and independent and just TOOOO good for USC. But for now we can only hope USC keeps winning football championships to keep this sad group of people miserable. Keep wearing your education like a suit of armor, students of that "other school"; just goes to show you've got nothing else going for you.
HITLER HATED IKE, TOO.......2004-08-09
Of course USC is hated. Barry Bonds gets booed the most. The terrorists don't diss Denmark. The best gets the most attention and the most vitriol.
All indications are that Pete Carroll and his University of Southern California Trojans are poised to become the greatest collegiate team of all time.
The defending co-National Champions have a dynasty on their hands. They could very possibly win two or three National Championships in a row.
USC's last two recruiting classes were ranked number one in America, and the 2004 crop is thought to be the best in history. Not since the 1983 Nebraska Cornhuskers has a team entered the season with so many highlights. Therein lies the problem.
USC is the hottest ticket in America's hottest town, the toast of Hollywood, the biggest thing in a media hothouse. They set the all-time USC attendance record in 2003 and will likely break that in 2004.
Based upon history, one is increasingly impressed with USC. Five years ago, a Top 25 listing of the Greatest College Football Programs of All-Time would have shown USC to have slipped. However, in light of their National Championship last year and favored status to repeat this year, Troy is now back to its second place status, poised to assault Notre Dame for the top spot in the next 10 to 15 years.
Long dynasties are hard to come by in college football, but SC has a long history of doing just that. It is for this reason, combined with the glow of being Notre Dame's biggest rival, its great inter-city tradition with UCLA, and a history that goes back farther than almost any program (Michigan and Notre Dame are the only schools that go back as far and are still powers) that Southern California is not just second all-time in football but first among all athletic programs (and first by a wide margin in baseball).
The Greatest College Football Team in history is generally considered to be John McKay's 1972 Trojans. In addition, SC claims the best single-season team in the 1920s (1928) and '30s (1931). They are considered the best team of the decade of the 1930s, 1960s, 1970s, and now the 2000s.
Further proof of SC's ability to maintain a tradition is their consistency. The top dynasty period in history was the John McKay/John Robinson era lasting from the early 1960s until the 1980s. The Howard Jones "Thundering Herd" teams of the 1920s and '30s also ranks highly. Among the best three-year periods ever, none is better than SC's run from 1972-74. Among 5/6-year periods, consider three of Troy's eras (1967-72, the best of anybody, followed by 1974-79 and 1928-32).
The best 10/15-year period? USC from 1967 to 1979, but that is not all. Also ranked is the period 1962-72 and 1928-39. Among great long-term dynasties (20/25 years), nobody beats Southern California from 1962-81, when they won five National Championships and four Heisman Trophies. The Trojans easily have the most professionals, the most first round draft picks, the most Hall of Famers, the most Pro Bowlers and the most All-Americans. They are, undisputably, a football factory. The empirical evidence cannot be argued against.
On top of all this, USC counts the most Major League baseball players, the most baseball Hall of Famers, the most All-Stars and various dominant players. Despite not being known for basketball, a disproportianate number of Trojans from the 1940s and '50s are considered hoops pioneers. The "triangle offense" was invented at SC, and such stalwarts as Bill Sharman, Alex Hannum and Tex Winter played together before induction in Springfield. USC also boasts the most Olympians, the most Olympic champions, and if they had been a country in 1976, they would have placed third in total medals at the Montreal Games.
Ha Ha USC.......2001-02-26
THIS BOOK IS FUNNY! I'M GOING TO BE A BRUIN IN A FEW YEARS AND THIS IS ENTERTAINMENT. tHIS BOOK YOU CAN READ OVER AND OVER. BUT ANY WHO, WHAT'S UP WITH THIS AUTHUR (HE WROTE DIFFRENT BOOK CALLED "I HATE UCLA") cAN ANY ONE EXPLAIN?
USC Sucks.......2000-09-13
...but UCLA swallows. "My maid went to UCLA", "University of Spoiled Children" "University of Caucasians Lost among Asians"...yada yada yada. You have heard all of this tired garbage before. Save your five bucks and put gas in your moped.
Book Description
This is a new, substantially revised and enlarged edition of Richard Taylor's work on propaganda and film in Soviet Russia and Nazi Germany. Taylor examines how each government used the cinema's potential for mass political propaganda, analyzing and discussing films which exemplify important aspects of propaganda in process, and which are available for viewing. For this new edition, Richard Taylor makes use in particular of the flood of new material emerging from the former Soviet Union to examine two further classic Stalinist films. Grigori Alexandrov's musical comedyThe Circus (1936) celebrated in spectacular Hollywood fashion the supposed superiority of the Soviet way of life and new constitution. The Fall of Berlin (1949), by contrast, is a vast-scale and overtly-propagandistic paean to Stalin's pivotal role in the Second World War. Richard Taylor also revises and up-dates his coverage of Nazi Germany, including fresh illustrative material and an up-to-date bibliography.

A Quick Guide to Venture Capital Thinking.......2006-06-21
This book, one claimed by the publisher to fall into the need-to-read category rather than the nice-to-read, is aimed at giving the businessman the information he needs to know to be able to hold an intelligent conversation with a venture capitalist.
It's a pretty quick and easy read, but the businessman who has gotten his business up to the stage where outside money is needed is probably not a financial type but an engineer, or scientist or perhaps just plain businessman. This book, written from the venture capitalist standpoint, will explain to him such things as how to value a company, verious types of stock, dilution of the ownership, in short, all of the things that will need to be understood when a big time financial deal goes down.
It's not an in depth book, each of these subjects can and has several books describing them 'in depth.' Instead it is a small book that gives you what you need to know quickly.
Great Book - But Even Better is Author DVD Called Negotiating Term Sheets & Valuations in VC Deals.......2006-05-17
This author definitely knows his stuff - but even better is author's new product called Negotiating Term Sheets and Valuations in Venture Capital Deals (ISBN 1597010987). It is a 100 minute DVD that has a lot of different material in it that is critical for doing venture capital deals. It also covers specific negotiation strategies and roles and motivations for each key deal participant - which is not covered in this book or the authors other book (Term Sheets & Valuations).
Very Disappointed.......2006-05-15
After enjoying his first book, Term Sheets and Valuations, I was looking forward to this one. I regret to say that I found it a big waste of time and a bigger waste of money.
It appears as if the marketing of the book by the pblisher sought to take advantage of his first book by raising the price by 500%, giving the impression that this book was better or more comprehensive. However, nothing could be further from the truth.
Solid reference for entrepreneurs.......2005-12-29
'Deal Terms' is a solid reference for entrepreneurs with 'need-to-read' (as opposed to 'nice-to-read') information regarding venture financing deals. I find Wilmerding's interviews with various relevant players (e.g. legal counsellor, venture capitalist, entrepreneur) to be a good differentiator of the book; the quick analysis of actual term sheet is also pragmatic. The 'Valuation' section is relatively generic & is the weaker part of the book.
Helpful, practical, and brilliant!.......2004-05-07
I recently finished your book "Deal Terms" and found it extremely
helpful as we are looking into our first round of financing.
This book showed me numerous issues that I would have definitely overlooked or simply not thought of.
Thanks for writing Deal Terms. Definitely an invaluable
reference for anyone in business!
