Good book for the money.......2001-03-25
This book has some wonderful photographs, and lots of jewelry you won't see anywhere else. It covers many designers that are overlooked by many jewelry book authors. There is a lot of information in this book, making it as good for reading as it is for picture viewing.

The continuing adventures of Hideki your typical 20-year-old slacker. He didn't get into college straight out of high school, so he's working a dead-end job, can't find a girlfriend, and is perpetually broke. If only he had a persocon - a humanoid robot - to keep him company, perhaps things wouldn't be so bad. The problem with persocons is they are incredibly expensive, and it would take Hideki a lifetime to afford one. Then, one day Hideki finds a particularly cute female persocon dumped in a pile of trash, so he decides to take her home. As they say, one man's trash is another man's treasure...

Yatta for Chobits! I picked up a copy of this at Barnes and Noble, and had no idea whatsoever what was going on! So I hurried up and got the first book, and in no time I was completely hooked! It has spiffy and detailed character design, awesome plot, and Chi is so sickeningly CUTE!!!!! Some people think it's gross because of all the fanservice, but it's meant to be funny, not porno >:P I'm a girl, and I like it! Overall, it's one of my favorite mangas and should be an installment in anyone's collection of mangas and...stuff. ^_^;;

Book Description
Most people talk to their dogs (some people talk to their plants!), but Zig Ziglar has engaged in lively conversations and even the occasional debate with his Welsh Corgi dog, Taffy.
When Dirty Dog (Zig's affectionate nickname for Taffy) walked into the Ziglar family household on his short, stubby legs in early 1995, he walked straight into Zig's unsuspecting heart. Conversations With My Dog shows a side of America's number one motivator that few may have suspected. He's nuts about his dog - and the feeling is obviously mutual.
Their discussions about health, happiness, faith, and the nature of dogs and how to improve relationships - including the one Dirty Dog has with his Dad - make this not only an enjoyable read, but one that will leave you with much to consider.
Customer Reviews:
Preachy self-promotion.......2007-08-16
The author uses the guise of having a conversation with his dog to preach his views on life, character and morals to the listener. The idea that these are "conversations with his dog" is ridiculous. Several times in the book, the author shamelessly promotes his other books, etc. I found that tacky. The whole concept for the book just doesn't work in this case.
Entertaining and insightful.......2006-05-19
For this particular book, motivational speaker Zig Ziglar employees a highly unusual and interesting method of getting the reader (or in my case, listener) to think. This entire volume is written as if Ziglar's dog, whom he affectionately refers to as "Dirty Dog" has co-written the book. It consists of many different fictional conversations that Ziglar (whom Dirty Dog affectionately refers to as "Dad") has had with Dirty Dog. Dad and Dirty Dog try to discover what makes each other tick and in the process are able to build a greater bond with one another. While being entertained by these conversations, many life lessons are presented -- lessons that teach compassion and understanding, and quite a few Biblical principals that if applied to daily life, can make for a richer, happier existence for the reader.
The lessons taught are simple and basic but it is these same simple basic principals that so many of us neglect or forget in our self-centered day to day living.
Ziglar's insight comes through loud and clear in the audio presentation in particular. His reading of the book lets the listener feel as if he's hearing these "conversations" first hand.
I admit that I was a little put off by the unusual presentation of this material and didn't actually plan to listen anymore after the first disc. But several of Ziglar's statements stayed with me over the next few days and I found myself wanting to hear more. I'm glad I played the other three discs because the listening experience became more and more enjoyable (and valuable) as the the book continued.
I recommend this to anyone who has enjoyed the author's previous works.
A Dissappointing Read.......2005-12-29
This book caught my eye because I own and grew up with Pembroke Welch Corgis. I had not read any other books by Zig Ziglar but had heard of him. At first I found the material somewhat simplistic like someone is reading a book for children and the chapters hold this old fashioned "father knows best" advice that is outdated and old news. I was espcially offended by a chaper in which he explains to his dog how it was ok for his wife to "spank" him. He states ". . . I believe that when kids misbehave, mild corporal punishment is a good approach to take." Then he quotes the bible to back this up. I can't believe he is using this dog in this way, he is not an authority on dogs and it is never effective or ok to hit a dog. The book also had alot of references to religion and the bible. I wished I would have known what was in this book, I would have save my money by not buying it. It was a very disappointing book.
Book Description
A collection of poems as comforting as an old friend.
"Do you ever talk to your dogs? I confess. I do." Thus Robert Pasick welcomes you to listen in on his soulful chats with his devoted Yellow Lab, Lucy. Their "conversations" explore the stuff of everyday life - worry, forgiveness, friendship, loss, and old age - with the clarity and candor that accompany long walks in the woods with a trusted companion.
Pasick's poems have a natural familiarity and ease, from the whimsical," What Breed is God?" to the sentimental, "Boys and Dogs," and the tender, "Till We Meet Again." Celebrate life's joys, sorrows and wonders.
Black and white photos and illustrations of "faithful friends" add to the warmth and gentle spirit of Conversations with My Old Dog.

Book Description
Do you ever talk to your dogs? I confess. I do.
Lucy, our Yellow Lab and my first dog, turned 13 last year. While she has always maintained her sweet disposition, we could definitely see her growing old. She could no longer hear very well, had lost one eye to glaucoma, and could no longer bear weight on her rear leg. Despite her ailments, our whole family loved her more than ever.
As an only child, I always longed for a dog, but until Lucy, I never had one. My mother was afraid of dogs, at least until we got Lucy. She has now learned to love Lucy as much as we do.
In 13 years, Lucy has witnessed many changes in our family. Adam was nine and Dan five when we brought her home; now Adam is a writer in New York City and Dan is a sophomore at the University of Wisconsin. When they left home last year after Christmas vacation, they feared they might never see her again. Before they left, each spent tearful moments alone with her, in their rooms.
Over the years, Lucy and I often have had meaningful conversations, not just the normal master-dog, command-response exchanges, but soulful explorations, usually while we were alone on a trail at County Farm Park. With her expressive Lab face, her head cocked to one side, and those amber, imploring eyes, Lucy has been an excellent listener. She rarely interrupts or turns the conversation toward herself.
This book is a collection of my conversational poems to Lucy. If you ever talk to your pet, contemplate what it means to grow old, wonder about the origins of the universe, grieve losses, celebrate the miracle of a comet at sunset, give your dog ice cream, long for reunions with old friends, or wonder about God, this book may bring you some pleasure.
Customer Reviews:
Janis B........2007-06-26
This is a wonderful book, with much to say about the unique relationship we have with our dogs and great insights on human behavior (and what dogs have to teach us). This is a wonderful gift for any dog lover.
A book about relationships.......2000-03-29
Rob Pasick has written a delightful book! He shares moving and endearing insights that capture a wide range of emotions between a man and his dog. Although not pet owners, we thoroughly enjoyed the book and easily related to it. It made us reflect on the essence of relationships: animal and human.
Animals can Save our Souls and Sanity.......2000-01-21
It's wonderful to see a book written for people who share their time on earth with a pet. Any pet owner (not just dog owner's) can relate to this book. I have been around animals and their owners all my life. I know that people will recognize the peace of mind they create while "meditating" with their pet. My Dad would have loved this book! Thanks Rob, from everyone who shopped at Joe's.
Conversations with an old ý smart dog!.......2000-01-11
This book is long overdue! Rob Pasick 's reflections are refereshingly frank and simulataneously humorous as one confronts the dual crisis of personal decline and the finality of death. Rob's converations with Lucy, faitful yellow lab 13 year companion, reveal a lot more than chatter with a so-called "dumb friend." There's nothing "dumb" about this small, highly readable book that ought to rank right up there with Tuesday With Morrie. A must read!
A Pet As The Perfect Listener.......2000-01-06
'Conversations with My Old Dog' is a delightful quick read for anyone who either enjoys journaling or who contemplates life's problems - large or small. You needn't have had a pet to enjoy this book, but that would surely add meaning for you. The collection of topics in these conversational poems written to the author's dog, Lucy, range from old age to losing things. Subtle doses of humor will bring a smile to your face. Maybe pets really do have solutions to life's perplexities!
Book Description
Who was Rita Hayworth? Born Margarita Carmen Cansino, she spent her life subjected to others' definitions of her, no matter how hard she worked to claim her own identity. Although there have been many "revelations" about her life and career, Adrienne McLean's book is the first to show that such disclosures were part of a constructed image from the outset.
McLean explores Hayworth's participation in the creation of her star persona, particularly through her work as a dancera subject ignored by most film scholars. The passive love goddess, as it turns out, had a unique appeal to other women who, like her, found it extraordinarily difficult to negotiate the competing demands of family, domesticity, and professional work outside the home. Being Rita Hayworth also considers the ways in which the actress has been treated by film scholarship over the years to accomplish its own goals, sometimes at her expense. Several of Hayworth's best-known star vehiclesamong them Gilda (1946), Down to Earth (1947), The Lady from Shanghai (1948), and Affair in Trinidad (1952) are discussed in depth.
Customer Reviews:
Exploring the creation of this popular movie star's persona.......2005-01-12
Being Rita Hayworth: Labor, Identity And Hollywood Stardom by Adrienne L. McLean (Assistant Professor of Film Studies, University of Texas-Dallas) strives to answer the question "Who was Rita Hayworth?" Exploring the creation of this popular movie star's persona, beloved in movies such as "The Lady from Shanghai" (1948) and "Affair in Trinidad" (1952), Being Rita Hayworth takes an especial interest in her appeal to other women of the day who were struggling to navigate the demands of family and work outside the home. Careful research of Hayworth's life frames the chapters, which meticulously pick apart fabricated image and propaganda from what can be verified as truth. An excellent read for anyone with an especial interest in not only Hayworth's career, but the ripple effect her star persona had on the hearts and minds of a female generation.
Customer Reviews:
One person's time with Zappa.......2005-04-14
Lennon was your average rebellious teenager in 1960s California, until she discovered a strange looking album by someone named Frank Zappa at the local record store. She bought everything she could find by him, and wore out the albums due to playing them over and over. A budding songwriter, she and her boyfriend recorded several songs on reel-to-reel tape and sent them to Zappa.
Months went by, until the phone call came asking if they could stop by at the offices of Zappa's record label. That would be enough for most people, but to realize that Zappa actually listened to the tape was overwhelming. His general opinion was that she didn't stink, but that she wasn't ready yet. On thing led to another, and a trip to the Zappa residence led to an invitation to be a substitute guitarist on his next tour.
On tour, Zappa rarely, if ever, indulged in the alcohol and drugs that are part of any tour, if only to keep that boss/employee distance. He was obsessive/compulsive and a perfectionist who, because of constant stomach problems, drank kaopectate by the gallon. Lennon's time on the tour was rather short, only a couple of months. Zappa sent her home after word got to Mrs. Zappa that their relationship wasn't exactly platonic.
Time went by, and after Lennon got thrown out of the house (the relationship with her parents was not good), she was able to crash in the basement of the Zappa residence, on the understanding that she not disturb him while he was composing. He had been seriously injured at a concert in England, and, physically and emotionally, things had changed. The arrangement lasted for a while, until Zappa went back on tour.
More time went by, and Lennon attempted to continue her music studies at a local college. She again ran into Zappa while he was rehearsing a grand, orchestral piece called The Great Wazoo. She tried to be as helpful as possible, while also learning as much as possible. Zappa seemed to tolerate her, more than he actually wanted her around. The relationship between them ends badly.
Zappa fans should read this book. He is shown to be a lot more than just someone with strange ideas about music. For rock music fans in general, this is a gem of a book.
A Fine Fast Read.......2005-03-10
It was a nice readable book with information that is interesting and plausible. If you like Zappa, and you like information about Zappa, it's interesting, but the writer also has some self deprecating and humorous stories to tell about her relations with him during this mid-career point for Zappa.
If I had a highlighter.......2004-12-06
I bought the book when it came out years ago. I desperately wanted it to be true, however portions of it sounded familiar. I took a highlighter and marked any part of the text where the information in it could be found in secondary sources. Granted most of the stories were Zappa favorites, "... the closest that I ever came to eating sh** was at a Holiday Inn in Fayetteville North Carolina," but other moments make oblique mentions of things like an article in Guitar Player from around that time period. Most of the information in the book can be found in secondary sources. What remains deals more with the author's life than Zappa's. If someone has a lot of Zappa in print, they won't need this book at all.
Who Nigey Lennon??.......2004-01-27
Who is Nigey Lennon? There are no reference anywhere else to her.
If she knew Zappa ever, it is insignificant.
Does truth belong in journalism?.......2004-01-13
Nigey Lennon's book is problematic for the Zappa fan. First off, it seems to contradict with the image of Zappa that he himself created and that the Zappa Family Trust continues to perpetuate: that of a brilliant composer and thinker, who while being somewhat of an iconoclast and eccentric, was also well-grounded and devoted to his family. Lennon, on the other hand, talks about Frank on the road, and presents an altogether seedier side of him. The problem is, who do we believe?
I tend to be somewhere in the middle, leaning towards the Zappa picture, not just because I happen to be a Zappa fan, but because there is a lot more evidence for it. No doubt he was not a perfect father or family man-- when you're on the road half the time and in the studio the other half, it can be hard to make time for your kids. Not to mention that when women are throwing themselves at you, like they no doubt were, fidelity is a difficult trick to manage. But I find Lennon's claims to be more than a little outrageous.
As another reviewer already pointed out, while it's perfectly plausible that she worked with Frank, there is no evidence apart from her word that she ever played on stage with him. And her claims about their relationship seem to be her romanticized recollections, tinged with bitterness from later in life. I have no problem believing that Frank and Nigey had some sort of sexual relationship at one point in time, but Lennon presents it as some sort of "true love" and tries to make herself into Zappa's muse. I'm sorry, but I have only one abbreviation for that: B.S. Her claim that "Andy" from the "One Size Fits All" album is really Frank's bitter lashing out at her for their break-up? HIGHLY doubtful. Her claim that the material from Grand Wazoo and Waka/Jawaka was written for her as some sort of synaesthetic musical/sexual gratification? Yeah, right. And I've got a bridge to sell you.
As other reviewers have pointed out, most of this book is really about Lennon, and not about Zappa. More auto than biography, this is the work of a jaded ex-groupie, who found herself briefly on the fringe of the life of a mysterious and talented composer, and has tried to imbue her very minor and periphery role with far more importance than it ever warranted.
On a purely stylistic note, Lennon's writing style is a little weak, and unoriginal. Rather than writing in HER voice, she uses a watered down imitation of Zappa's style from his Autobiography, the Real Frank Zappa book.
Customer Reviews:
The most helpful thing about this book definetly is..........2005-05-05
What I found interesting about this book is that once you started reading, you just couldn't bring yourself to stop.
The information in the book wasn't as much as the inside view of how the author sees things and what you can do with that view. Good read.

Keyboarding for everyone.......2007-08-11
This product was back ordered for months,so I bought the keyboarding for everyone with out the CD/ROM!
Great book for beginners or those who want to improve.......2007-01-11
I've used this book for over a year now to teach keyboarding to adults, most of whom have little or no keyboarding experience. The combination of the book's exercises and the program on the included disk is a good one--everyone learns differently, and it's nice to have these options. The only complaint I would have is that the lessons in the book and those on the disk are not coordinated--but that's minor.
Very helpful workbook without risk of falling asleep!!.......2007-01-09
After reading the reviews, I bought the book and am happy I did. It's reasonably priced and helpful to those who want to advance their typing speed. There are enough exercises to keep you entertained. I've only used the textbook, but cant wait to start using the CD. Thank you for your reviews... I probably would not have purchased it if it wasnt for the positive reviews from previous buyers.
Typinf & Keyboarding for Everyone.......2007-01-04
The book has helped greatly and was shipped on time.
Not fun for teens..........2006-11-11
This is a great book, but it was not very fun for my 15 year old brother-in-law. He likes his other more interactive program which has fun games and keeps scores.

Good for kids too!.......2006-08-31
After typing in too many silly jokes for my 7 yr old at various websites, I bought this book to help her learn typing. It's a great book, lessons are good, and instructions are limited to what is needed. None of the psychobabble I found in other books. This just teaches the right fingers for each key, correct posture and gets on with the actual lesson. I have only used the lessons with my kid, not the accompanying software.
Typing and Keyboarding for Everyone is a winner!.......2000-02-01
I've been using the Typing and Keyboarding for Everyone to train over 50 clerical students in keyboarding for the past year now with great success. It's an easy reading book for beginners and those looking to just refresh lost skills. I personally would recommend it to anyone.
