Book Description
This book is designed especially for those interested in breaking into storyboarding as a career but don't know where to start.
Customer Reviews:
Some good information, but..........2003-10-13
This book had some good information, but focused more on career building and Hollywood networking than on actual storyboarding techniques. I'm glad the author was able to develop such a career, but he goes on too much about it and I think the book would have been more useful with more detail on translating script and director's vision into storyboards rather than stories on how lucky the guy was getting to be a director's assistant.
Not Very Useful.......2003-10-11
I bought this book expecting a how-to, instructional guide. There's none of that! No tips on drawing or the art of storyboarding. Instead, we get a autobiography of Fraioli and tips on breaking in: "hang around movie sets." Wow. I never would have figured that out on my own.
The few examples of art Fraioli gives are amatuer and poorly drawn. I didn't find this book useful at all.
Sincerely written...but.......2002-07-10
Mr. Fraioli's book is certainly a wonderful work about sticking to something and getting where you wish to be. However, I found it interesting that his name isn't found in the crew listing for either Ace Ventura nor Wild America. Of course, this could be a simple oversight...but still.
In my opinion the situations seemed a bit "staged" and in a lot of ways cliched. He does try to inspire, however and for that I give him two stars.
Definitely a motivating book!!.......2002-04-26
This book will motivate any artist or filmmaker trying to break into the highly competitive Hollywood scene. The author's words of wisdom, and "tricks of the trade" is something not taught in any school. If you want an edge on the competition, pick up a copy of this book!
Excellent book for breaking in the biz!.......2002-04-25
This book tells it like it is! The author's straight forward advice is excellent! I'm a storyboard artist who struggled in Hollywood, but Fraioli's words of wisdom are optimistic, strategic and helped me tremendously! I read the other reviews below, and it's disappointing to see there are always one or two who think differently. It's obvious those "other readers/artists" failed in Hollywood and are looking for someone to blame. What they should worry about is trying to succeed instead of getting jealous and angry at those who do make it. Anyway, this book is a definite for those wanting to succeed in Hollywood. If you are a failure or want to fail, then don't by the book. Otherwise, pick up a copy today and learn how the "game" is played from someone who definitely knows.

Who's That Girl: The Ultimate Madonna Trivia Book
ASIN: 0711988749 |
Book Description
Madonna is a genuine superstar in a class of her own. She has revolutionized the world of entertainment with her ability to be all things to all people in her ongoing crusades as the "mother of reinvention." The lavishly illustrated madonnastyle looks in detail at her development as a visual performer on stage, on video and in real life, as she moves from the riotous street punk explosions of her early appearances through her controversial use of erotic and religious imagery to the sophisticated and superbly orchestrated presentations that are her forté today. It explores the childhood and adolescent experiences at the heart of Madonna's most memorable creations, charting her struggles with Catholicism, her sexual history and her idealization of motherhood. But style is not just about fashion, it's about identity, attitude, personality and lifestyle, and madonnastyle studies, from their origins, the qualities and choices that have become an inseparable part of her legend.
Customer Reviews:
Awesome!.......2006-06-27
Well, this item that i purchased,is very awesome i think it's worth it to have this madonna stuff!
Madonna is a Queen of Style.......2006-06-13
In 1998 at the Oscar's Madonna was called the sole survivor of the 80's. Now, nearly a decade later the terms holds true. What was the secret to a reign that rivals the Rolling Stones and Elizabeth the First ... her STYLE! From New York street urchin, yoga mamma, Gauthier Muse, and Scottish lass Mrs. Ritchie .... Madonna is the master of reinvention. Her style is always changing and evolving with time, and keeps everyone guessing what this pop culture icon will do next.
Unlike her 80's contemporaries (Boy George, Cyndi Lauper, Pat Benetar, etc) ... Madonna is not stuck in an era of the "good old days" because like her style reflects, the good times are always NOW!
Madonna Has Style!.......2002-05-23
I just received my copy of this book yesterday! It's a visually stunning retrospective of Madonna's inimitable style and her incredible influence over fashion and pop culture over the past twenty years. The photographs included in this collection are beautiful and capture the true essence of a woman that transcends mere superstardom and is in a class entirely by herself. This book is definitely a must-have in all Madonna fan's collections. Also check out Matthew Rettenmund's Encyclopedia Madonnica & Michael D. Craig's Who's That Girl? Relying on a mixture of symbols, icons, and expressions to tell his silent stories, Runton's clean, animated, and heartwarming style makes it a perfect read for anyone who's a fan of Jeff Smith's Bone or Mike Kunkel's Herobear and the Kid. Already winning fans around the world, Owly is not to be missed.
Customer Reviews:

...Runton did it again. I just can't get enough. Owly is my hero and the kind of beautiful soul everyone should aspire to be.
Highly Recommended.......2006-03-03
Lovable from start to finish with its simplicity. Good for all ages.
The perfect gift.......2006-01-20
This all-ages graphic novel is the perfect gift for a friend or for yourself! Runton uses endearing and entertaining pictures to tell his story without any words, and the adorable characters will pull on the most cynical of heart-strings.
Flying Lessons is the third adventure of Owly and Wormy, but you will have no trouble jumping into the story if it is the first time you've picked up an Owly book. Once again, Owly sets out to make a new friend in the forest, and along the way he learns about overcoming stereotypes and childhood fears.
Runton is unparalleled in his ability to capture the heart and imagination of his readers. Flying Lessons was just as enjoyable as the previous two Owly books, and I can't wait for the next Owly story to come out!

Book Description
For the millions of animal enthusiasts in America, here’s a heartwarming collection of tales by veterinarian Robert Sharp that relate the joys and misadventures of being an animal doctor in small-town U.S.A. With humor and compassion, No Dogs in Heaven? portrays the great and not-so-great characteristics of human and animal nature, all infused by a lovable veterinarian’s belief that indeed, there are dogs in heaven.
Included is the telling of Sharp’s first day as a rookie veterinarian nervously preparing to inject a needle into a one-ton Holstein bull; finding a rash on a cute puppy whose lovely young owner bared her breasts to ask his opinion of a similar skin ailment; treating a vicious dog whose violent owner had stabbed it with a knife, only to treat the same dog two years later—now a sweet and gentle pet of an adoptive family; and caring for a kitten struck by a car who survived amputations of both right legs, somehow learned to walk, earned the name “Lefty,” and was taken in by a family who loved him.
In the vein of James Herriot’s compelling stories, this charming, eccentric, and comic book is sure to strike a chord with readers everywhere.

Book Description
Judy Garland, written by the world's premier Garland authority, is based on decades of unprecedented research; on hundreds of interviews with family, friends, show-biz colleagues, and other insiders; and on Judy's own thoughts and insights. This day-by-day account of the legends life -- the first of its kind -- succeeds in the daunting task of tracking Judy's myriad professional pursuits, the personal crises she triumphed over, and her many accomplishments.
Customer Reviews:
Rejoice: Schechter has chronicled Judy and Liza for the Ages.......2007-09-17
Schechter has done for Judy and Liza what Koeschel has done for Wolfgang. It's all here: the mood, the method, the magnificence, in two encyclopedic texts that detail the lives and good works of two of the most fascinating and talented women of our time and all the ages--the Fantastic Garland and her equally incredible Daughter Liza Minnelli. Schechter has not only written two great books, he has done the world a terrific service in collecting some of their TV appearances on DVDs that have given a permanent showcase to material that otherwise might have been gone and forgotten forever, to the great loss of us all. Colorful, informative, and fascinating, these two books on Judy and Liza, as well as the DVDs that constitute exhibits A-Z, should provide fans and would be admirers alike with endless pleasure and information, as they make an incalculably important and significant archival contribution to our heritage. Not to be missed. Martin Kantor, MD. Author of My Guy: A Gay Man's Guide to a Lasting Relationship and Together Forever: The Gay Man's Guide to Lifelong Love
Incredibly detailed.......2007-08-12
Scott Schechter has done a fantastic job of exhaustively researching Judy Garland; so many details here. Overall, one finishes this impressive "encyclopedia" and wonders how one who was supposedly so "unreliable" accomplished so much in such a short lifespan. A definite must-have for Garland fans.
A Gold Mine of Data.......2006-03-22
This book is a must-have for Judy fans. That's a given.
But be careful about a quick dismissive flip through the pages. This is, among other great things, a key reference book for collectors.
If you want to know about a particular song Judy sang and whether a recording exists, the Song Index in this book will lead you to the answer.
If you want to know if a particular radio show or concert was recorded, this book will tell you where to find it or will confirm that it exists in private collections.
If you want to know when and where Judy sang with Vic Damone, for instance, this book will lead you to the time, the place and provide info. on available recordings.
A keepsake volume and handy reference tool for the very serious Judy collector.
A Loving and Brilliant Tribute.......2005-05-17
Judy Garland: The Day-by-Day Chronicle of a Legend will take you on an amazing journey through an incredible life of one of our most treasured legends. Mr. Schechter accomplishes what no biography has before -- a complete and yet loving history that fans and music historians will both treasure for generations to come.
A record of how HARD Judy worked........2004-03-19
Judy Garland worked harder than any other performer of her era. Detailing this work, as Scott Schechter does, day-by-day, does more to emphasize that work than any other biography that has been released.
What is sad is that one can predict, long before a Garland project comes out, who will like it and who will not. Does it have to do with Judy's artistry? No. Is it related to the breadth of the research? No. Is it critically reviewed based on its own merits and not on personal feelings about the author? No.
Judy Garland has, most definitely, groups (perhaps COVENS is a better word) who reject or accept a Garland project based solely on who was involved in its making. I will be the first to agree that John Fricke's Garland biography "World's Greatest Entertainer" is brilliant, and sumptuously illustrated. Steve Sanders' "Rainbow's End" is also excellent, dealing specifically with Judy's 1963-64 CBS television series (although Sanders seems almost fixated on Judy's weight throughout the book).
The recent Garland biography by Gerald Clarke was raked over the coals in a very sanctimonious manner, and one had to be private about their feelings for this book, to avoid being chastised by other Garland fans/biographers.
Well, I am not a Garland biographer. I am a collector of her memorabilia, and have been collecting for 30 years. People like myself and a VERY small handful of collectors are responsible for making ANY Garland biography have unique and rare photographs and memorabilia, whether the coven approves of it or not.
I have been around, dear readers. I know that personal feelings interfere with every single negative review of this book, or ANY Garland book. That is a part of the mystique of Judy Garland and the emotional response her art can create in an individual. Scott Schechter did what all of Garland's fans have moaned about forever. He presented a chronological perspective of how HARD Judy worked, from December 1924 through March 1969.
It is sad, shameful, and even egregious that the quality of a Garland biography, DVD, or CD release is filtered through the perceptor's own personal feelings about the individual that made it possible.
Not liking something based on who was responsible for its creation means that the individual likes Judy Garland on a conditional basis. And conditional love for Judy Garland is not love at all. It is haughty, noxious, and disgusting behavior that is in complete opposition to the attitude and message of Judy Garland the person, and Judy Garland the artist.

Lone Star & Legends: The Story of Texas Music
Paula Felps
Manufacturer: Republic of Texas
ProductGroup: Book
Binding: Paperback
ASIN: 1556227981 |
Book Description
The music of Texas has influenced musicians all over the United States, and much of what we consider popular music had its beginnings right here in the state. A music journalist with a passion for the music history of Texas, Paula Felps' journalistic skills bring this history to life in vivid prose.
Customer Reviews:
Wow! What a great book!.......2002-02-28
Once you pick this book up you can't put it down! Lone Stars and Legends: The History of Texas Music takes you on a fantastic journey through the history of Texas music. The author, Paula Felps is a creative and witty writer who makes the words come alive, and has her facts straight. If you consider yourself a music buff, you've got to read this book. In short, if you like music and want an interesting read, you need this book. It makes a great gift, too!
A Great Read For All Music Buffs.......2002-01-04
Texas is a mighty big place. Big enough, it seems, to produce a wealth of influential musicians - players who not only helped shaped the sound of Texas music, but of American music in general.
"Lone Stars and Legends," Paula Felps' excellent chronicle of the first 100 years of Texas music and musicians, sheds light on a host of these musical mavericks and their various innovations. Along the way, we hear about the birth of such styles such as Tejano and Western Swing, while also gaining new insight into specifically how Texas legends like Blind Lemon Jefferson, Ernest Tubb and Buddy Holly contributed to the advancement of more widespread artforms like blues, country and rock'n'roll.
Unlike many other historical tomes, Lone Stars and Legends is written in such a way that it actually holds your interest, making it as hard to put down as it is easy to soak up the information. In addition to providing a truckload of facts, Felps interjects these history lessons with humorous asides and investigations into not just the output but also the people behind the guitars, accordions, fiddles, pianos and trumpets - the people whose contributions provided the framework for Texas and American music as we know it today.
All forms of the Texas musical tapestry are surveyed.......2001-07-04
Texas is home to a legion of musical trailblazers ranging from Scott Joplin, Blind Lemon Jefferson, and T-Bone Walker, to Janis Joplin, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Willie Nelson. In Lone Stars And Legends: The Story Of Texas Music, music journalist Paula Felps traces the diverse paths of the men and women who laid the foundation for what has come to be described as "Texas Music" and a musical legacy that reaches deep into Texas history and culture. All forms of the Texas musical tapestry are surveyed including ragtime, Blues, Boogie Woogie, Jazz, Cowboy ballads, Country, Western Swing, Honky-Tonk; Rockabilly, and Rock 'n Roll. Lone Stars And Legends is a unique and welcome contribution to the study of Texas cultural history in general, and the history of American music in particular.

A True Revelation.......2005-06-15
This is an ultimate and indispensable guide to 3-cushion players. All four books of this series are full of precious formulas and tips many of which were secret to amateurs. Systematic and pin-pointed explanations and diagrams are incredible. This series should go on.
congratulations.......2000-09-29
Words fail me to congratulate Harris for the splendid work he has done. The four books offer a large selection of secrets and techniques for studious billards players to explore. Putting all those systems and techniques into words, must have been pioneering !!! The greatest billiards players will nearly never reveal their secrets, unless one's willing to pay for expensive private lessons. People like Harris are very rare in the world of billiards

As a tournament director, I have witnessed over 2000 pool and billiard tournaments and it is obvious that many VERY GOOD players cannot control the cue ball, or solve simple carom problems. There has never been anything written like these Billiard Atlas books...these systems and techniques open the door of possibilities for pool, or 3-cushion players, like never before.

""Businesses need to stop focusing on 'paradigm shifts' and 'strategic initiatives' and realize that none of that makes any sense if your front-line employees don't 'give a damn.'"" —Rhoda Olsen, President, Great Clips, Inc.
Transform the Your Bored, Uncaring ""Generation Why"" Young Workforce into a
Powerhouse of Performers and Innovators
According to the U.S. Office of Consumer Affairs, by 2012 there will be a shortage of more than two million front-line service workers in retail sales, customer service, and food preparation. Only a fraction of the restless Generation Y workers who typically fill these positions stay with their employer longer than a year! Dubbed ""kidployees,"" these 16- to 24-year-olds share an entirely different set of values, expectations, and skills that must be reckoned with if you're among the millions of business owners and managers in America.
In Getting Them to Give a Damn, nationally recognized Generation Y expert Eric Chester shows readers how to hire, train, manage, and motivate a workforce that won't blindly conform to traditional standards and time-honored company policies and standards. Chester reveals the management techniques that leading-edge employers are using to get these quirky, book-smart, and streetwise kidployees to contribute in innovative and entrepreneurial ways.

Motivate Young Employees.......2005-12-19
I was often puzzled by employees in their early 20s. They brought different values, expectations and skills to the workplace. My job was to teach them the service ethic, to keep them long enough to get the benefit of my training efforts and keep them motivated to put in a good day's work.
This book addresses those issues. Any employer today needs to inform themselves on how to deal with this age group.

If you employ a team or are looking to employ (and retain) a team that includes anyone in the 15 to 25 age bracket, this book is an absolute MUST READ.
Several very good examples of what other successful operators are doing and plenty of food for thought that can lead to real application in your business.
A great investment and a very good read!

OK, your first reaction is the profanity in the book title. Live with it! You will find the word a few places in the text, but it's there to make a point. Yes, the writing is punchy, direct, and pushes the envelope of your thinking. However, so do the attitudes and behavior of your young people. We older folks (let's say that term refers to all us gray beards over 35) need to wake up and smell the differences between today's young workers and their counterparts in previous generations. They are different, and must be managed differently. Learn how and succeed. Ignore the lessons of this book and continue to pour profits down the drain by recruiting, training, recruiting, training, recruiting, training, ad nauseum.
Eric Chester is respected as the leading authority on this age group, assuming that anyone can be an expert on kidployees. As a consultant and author in the workforce field, I'm very comfortable telling you that the man is right-on in his writing as he is in his speaking. He'll grab you at the beginning of the book and hold your attention with anecdotes (some from his own life) and lessons learned. In page after page, Chester presents knowledge, insight, techniques, and advice that-if heeded-can substantially strengthen a manager's effectiveness.
In the first of five well-organized sections of the book, you'll gain valuable perspectives about the 16-24 year olds (Generation Why), noting how and why they're different...and how the difference can be a powerful asset for your company. Subsequent sections address how to attract, keep, and connect with this important employee group. The last section offers important insight into some employers who get it right...why and how. An index supplements the text, enabling you to go back to particular sections for refresher readings.
You will be amazed at how much the author has packed into this comfortably-sized book.
After you're finished with your first reading, you'll probably be inspired to buy copies for other managers in your organization. Wait. I take that back. That inspiration will come to you before you've finished with the book. It hit me somewhere about half through the pages.
Warning: if your competitor uses this book and you do not, you are in big trouble!
