Clement Greenberg is widely recognized as the most influential and articulate champion of modernism during its American ascendency after World War II, the period largely covered by these highly acclaimed volumes of The Collected Essays and Criticism. Volume 3: Affirmations and Refusals presents Greenberg's writings from the period between 1950 and 1956, while Volume 4: Modernism with a Vengeance gathers essays and criticism of the years 1957 to 1969. The 120 works range from little-known pieces originally appearing Vogue and Harper's Bazaar to such celebrated essays as "The Plight of Our Culture" (1953), "Modernist Painting" (1960), and "Post Painterly Abstraction" (1964). Preserved in their original form, these writings allow readers to witness the development and direction of Greenberg's criticism, from his advocacy of abstract expressionism to his enthusiasm for color-field painting.

With the inclusion of critical exchanges between Greenberg and F. R. Leavis, Fairfield Porter, Thomas B. Hess, Herbert Read, Max Kozloff, and Robert Goldwater, these volumes are essential sources in the ongoing debate over modern art. Now I know how to make the patterns.......2002-03-27

To make your own, or somebody elses, wedding dress you have to know how to make the pattern. This book tells you how to make up a pattern in any style starting from a basic bodice, sleeve and skirt.
For me it's the book I needed. I had my training in patternmaking, but it's the basic and the daily casual wear for women.
Now I can make the pattern for the wedding dress I like.
It's easy written, but I think the knowledge I have about patternmaking makes it more easy to understand.
It's a great supplement to my libary.
I also had my traing in sewing garments, but sewing a wedding dress, I think is quite a different cookie. So I need another book next to this one. So that will be my next buy. And it will probably be "Bridal Couture" by Susan Khalje.
In The Netherlands it's hard to find books to expant my knowledge about these subjects so I'm very pleased to find them even it's in another language.

This is not a book on technique, but a book on manipulating design--what bridal customers all want. The idea of creating a couture bridal gown goes far beyond what you can find in this book. It has many illustrations of bodices, sleeves, skirts and trains throughout the process of creating the designs, and gives the basics of slicing your ordinary sloper to create bridal stylelines. In that, it is great for the patternmaker. You can see how bustles, portrait necklines, leg o'mutton sleeves and stays are updated to be used in today's bridal fashions. The section covering the boned bodice has many diagrams to help you visualize where the seams and darts are placed. There is minimal information on the construction of the bodice as well. The book also tries to touch on the construction of a head-dress (veils, tiaras, headbands) and offered rather skimpy information on the subject.

As it says on the cover, "Pattern Layout and Design." That is all you will find worthwhile in this book. If you are not an experienced seamstress with pattern drafting expertise, this book is not for you. "Patternmaking for Fashion Design" by Helen Joseph-Armstrong is an excellent book to start with, and will teach you all the basics you need to create your own styles. "Couture Bridalwear" is a supplement to my library. It is one of the few books available on the subject, but I was hoping for much more than was covered here.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: PvP is a wonderful comic strip! If you're an 80's child, gaming nerd, or even just a fan of well produced and genuinely funny comics...you should find a lot to like here. This is another wonderful collection of great strips. If you're followed the comic online, you may run into some storylines that you've gone through before. Personally, I think I've enjoyed reading through them again in the collected format more than I did getting the daily "zing!" comics (not to say that I don't still read it online...).

Scott Kurtz is a very funny and very talented individual. His mirth and ability to point out oddities in gaming culture is perfect! I, of course, am an avid reader of his online comic and am usually quick to purchase these compilations. Even if you are not into gaming, you'll learn to love the characters of PvP.

Scott Kurtz creats PVP daily online, and monthly for Image comics. But, if you can't get to either or those, or even if you can, you should grab ths compilation.
As a follow up to "PVP at Large", this book collects PVP issues 7-12 from the Image Comics run. In side, you find storylines dealing with: Francis thinking he is in the future, Jade leaving the group and returning, Star Wars-Galaxies, John Edwards, Cole's love of Swedish 70's Pop bands, and even more.
Scott's obvious love of pop culture helps elevate the comic to another level, and make it worth a read even by people who don't play games, read comics, or know Wolverine's real name. Because you don't have to.

This is one of those books that you can dip into time after time and always find something new and fascinating.. It examines a huge range of topics eg advertising, Barbie, baseball, Hippies, Marilyn Monroe,yo-yos, giving historical background and adding interesting follow-up activities such as fan clubs, appreciation societies and places to visit as well as reading lists. The compilers enthusiasm shines through. Pop culture is often trivialised and looked down upon by many but this shows just how vibrant and fascinating it really is. I think most people would have at least one passion, however secret, among the many topics covered here.

This edition of Elgar's Enigma Variations is a very high quality print with a reasonable price. Both for study or performance purposes it is a choice to everyones personal library.

Great Score - But Incomplete.......2005-04-04

Two of the most popular works by Sir Edward Elgar(1857-1934) are
the "Enigma Variations" (a theme followed by 14 variations -
1-12 being musical sketches of his friends, the 13th for his wife
with the final variation depicting the composer himself) and
the 5 "Pomp And Circumstance" marches.

I feel that Dover presents these works(in full score)in a way that is very clearly read and well presented.

The only problem I have with this compilation of Elgar's works has to do with the omission of Pomp And Circumstance March No. 5 (in C Major). Where is it? No. 5's liveliness is sorely missing from this group of 5 marches that Elgar wrote for many
various occasions (not just for graduations).

Regardless, I highly recommend buying this score collection.Enjoy the rich orchestration that Elgar uses in his various works
You'll see why Elgar is described as the Englishman who was credited as being one of the last true Romantic composers.

I bought a second copy of this book after loaning it to too many people to know who had had it last.

The book is not light reading, is highly technical and has more than a little math to comprehend. But, it is worth it.

The strategic thinking is very focused.

Looking for guidance/framework on how to price our products ..........2007-03-08

We have the challenge of taking new products and services to the marketplace and really were looking form some guidance on a place to start. The area we are working in is really developing a new market as well. So we were wondering "What Price do we place on these product and services?"

We could not afford the experts on pricing (aka Strategic Pricing Group now part of The Monitor Group). And were looking for a place to start. All research including reviews from Amazon pointed us to start with this book. To myself and our endeavor, it the first 3 weeks of owning the book, I have read several chapters multiple times and the foundation framework on pricing is shares has already proven to be worth many times the price of the book.

On top of it, it is easy to read. Thanks to the people who took the time to make this book.

Great Book.......2007-02-18

This book is a great guide to the topic of pricing. I'm an MBA student and I believe students as well as professionals can benefit from reading this book. It contains structures and frameworks to work out a tailored pricing strategy and they all make sense. Lots of good examples from business practice illustrate the application of the theories.
The book is relatively quantitative for a marketing book, which I find great because there is no argumentation based on psychology and belief, but on quantifiable parameters - one can see the consulting practice of the authors.
What the book pretty much lacks is a citing of new academic research studies of the topics discussed. There are extensive references, however.
All in all a great book to newcomers in pricing as well as experienced pricers.
