Excellent information source.......2005-08-19
This book is great. I don't think I've ever gone to it and not found the word I was looking for. I wish it had a bit more pictures of some of the fabrics and such. But still, it is very good and there isn't one week that goes by that I don't reference it for one reason or another. I especially like that it offers origins of some textile words which is always interesting and helpful to know.
Know Every words used in Textiles.......2000-03-26
This is a great unique book for all textile related persons, it gives in details the perfect meaning of all the words used in todays textile field. I think this book is must for all textile related persons.

Book Description
Alluring ladies in innovative outfits by Poiret, Lanvin, Chanel, and other designers exude wit, panache, and style. Lavish costumes for dining, dancing, and promenading are set against backdrops adapted from posters, photographs, and images from fashion magazines of the period. A delight for Art Deco collectors and devotees. 24 full-color cards.
Book Description
We've all seen her. She's hunched forward, her blue hair is tucked neatly under a plastic rain bonnet, she's clutching expired coupons, and she's discussing her latest health problems over lunch. She's a little old lady . . . and she's coming your way at 2 m.p.h. Little old ladies have elastic waistbands on all their slacks. They save rubber bands, remember 15-cent McDonald's hamburgers, and have never seen a public rest room that was clean enough. How Not to Become a Little Old Lady is for any woman who is proud to have escaped little old ladyhood, and it's the perfect, lighthearted gift to give women in danger of slipping into those awful little old lady tendencies. The charming illustrations from Adrienne Hartman perfectly capture the senior syndrome. Say good-bye to little old ladies who pass off their liver spots as beauty marks and say hello to this fresh and fun gift book.
Customer Reviews:
Mean Spirited and Banal.......2006-12-22
I purchased this book expecting a whistful, witty, wink and nod at older age, along with some genuine suggestions for maintaining one's vibrance in advanced years. Please be assured this book contains none of those things. Each page states a tired, much used, irrelevant or outright offensive cliche. If you've ever watched a sit com you've heard these same old lines over and over again. The narrative reminds me of a bad comedian doing his first minute at an open-mike night. I purchase this as a gift for my mother, but realized I couldn't possibly give it to her without hurting her feelings. Ageism at it's worst. Sadly, the writer maligns senior women as bigoted small-minded losers while failing to recognize her own emotional fears about aging and body image. Her tone is that of a sorority sister gossiping about what's wrong with anyone not in her peer group.
It's shocking that Andrews McMeel Publishing actually printed this "book". The illustrations are fine and surpass the writing to a degree. Unfortunately, that doesn't mean very much.
Wish I could send this back, but I'd lose so much on shipping it's not worth it. I don't know that I've ever recycled a book, but I wouldn't even feel right donating it to the library book sale.
A great little book for a Laugh or Two!.......2006-12-09
This is not a senior self-help book or a book for intellectual stimulation, but for a few chuckles, it's a quick, humorous excursion through Mary McHugh's world of little old ladies. I agree with one of McHugh's introductory statements: "The trouble with letting yourself become a Little Old Lady is that you are missing half the fun of being alive in the twenty-first century."
I hope I don't fit most of McHugh's stereotypes. I don't "still wear makeup and stockings to the supermarket" or "think microwaves fry your brain if you stand near them," and I certainly don't "turn (my) back on computers," which are a big part of my life.
On the other hand, I do "still expect people to RSVP when (I) invite them to a party," and I know a few peers (in addition to my 90+ mother) who "wear plasitc bonnets in the rain." I don't.
Mary McHugh's "How Not to Become a Little Old Lady," with its cute illustrations by Adrienne Hartman, is a charming little "quick read" for the self-aware older woman with a sense of humor.
Not as clever as I thought.......2005-08-23
This little book sounded like just what I could use in running a group of "Primetimers" at church...having socials I mean.
It is not very cleverly written.....and I will probably get rid of it.
Fluff.......2005-07-06
I like self-help books; I was tricked into buying this book because of its title. I was angry when I realized the book was simply one-page, drawings (poorly done) with comic one-liners. The book was offensive to me.
The greatest book ever written.......2002-12-22
I have never read a better, and funnier book. I read it over and over again. I gave it to all of my friends and they loved it as well. It gave me hours of entertainment. The Illustrations by Adrienne Hartman were exquisite. I laughed at every single one until my eyes teared. BUY THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Book Description
The fog is thick this Christmas Eve and Santa is having a hard time finding his way. Fortunately, cats from all over go to their posts and guide Santa with their glistening eyes through the fog.
Customer Reviews:
Cats Rule The Night.......2004-12-06
On a Foggy Christmas Eve, Santa is trying to see his way to deliver presents. When the cats realize Santa has not delivered presents (especially catnip), they unite to form a line of almond shaped lights (cat eyes glowing in the dark).
The cat's eyes,
like a runway,
were easy to follow,
So Santa and reindeer
took off like
Apollo.
All the cats purr and meow and help Santa find the houses. This is an amusing story for cat lovers and has some highly imaginative moments. Yes, this is a perfect stocking gift that will be enjoyed by young children and feline fans everywhere.

Not Clement Moore, but fun!.......2000-11-14
I picked up this book purely on a whim, but I'm very glad I did. It's a fun book to read. I can read it to my daughter and keep her amused and happy at the same time. She loves how the cats light up the sky for St. Nicholas. It's got a true 'feline' feel to it...you can almost feel like YOU would be missing your catnip if St. Nicholas didn't show up! I highly recommend this book if you love humour and if you're a cat person.

Book Description
Everyone loves weddings, and celebrity weddings—full of spectacle and scandal—are the best of all. This amazing pictorial history of Hollywood matrimony brings us to hundreds of weddings, both on-screen and off, from the 1920s to today.
"When I was a little girl, I dreamt about two things: being a bride and being a movie star,” writes Sandy Schreier in the introduction to
Hollywood Gets Married. Like many of us, Schreier grew up admiring the stars of her era, and she delighted in their weddings, both on-screen and off. Now, in a gorgeous and comprehensive pictorial history, she chronicles the glamour and the glitz of Hollywood nuptials. From Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier to Julia Roberts and Lyle Lovett, from the original Father of the Bride to Four Weddings and a Funeral,
Hollywood Gets Married takes us on a sentimental and humorous journey through the most memorable unions of the twentieth century.
With hundreds of carefully researched photographs and informative captions,
Hollywood Gets Married provides an insider’s look at the behind-the-scenes details of movie and real-life weddings: descriptions of the costume designs, photography, bridesmaids’ dresses, food, and exploits of offscreen in-laws and wedding guests and, of course, the bride and groom.
Hollywood Gets Married collects in its pages the most unforgettable marriage moments of our time, the ones we love to watch again and again. No fan of movies—or weddings!—will want to be without this exciting and unique celebration of cultural history.
Customer Reviews:
Sandy Schreier Gives Us Another Fabulous Book!.......2002-09-27
This book happened to be published at a time when several of my friends were getting married and it makes an excellent bridal shower gift for the friend who loves old movies. This book is similar in set up to Schreier's other great book "Hollywood Dressed & Undressed" in that there are photos of movies with a bit of text and director and costuming credits. It is a simple set up, but it lets you view the fabulous wedding scenes in films through the years, such as "Haystacks and Steeples" (1916) or "Show People" (1928) up to newer films like "Where The Heart Is" (2000) or "Runaway Bride" (1999). Scattered throughout are photos of real celebrity weddings such as that of Norma Shearer and Irving Thalberg (1927) or Shirley Temple and John Agar (1945). Great book by this great fashion historian who owns the largest private collection of 20th century couture!
Delectable photos highlighted with wonderful anecdotes.......2002-06-23
Sandy Schreier's "Hollywood Gets Married" is a delectable bon-bon of a book, and great reading for anyone who is either starstruck or interested in movie costume design. She admits in her foreword to being subject to those twin little girls dreams of a) being a movie star and b) being a bride, and her infectious enthusiasm for both subjects comes across brilliantly here.
Schreier offers us a delightful overview of Hollywood weddings here, with everything from silent films to modern-day set pieces to real-life Hollywood brides in both their Hollywood and their personal incarnations as brides. As you might expect, there are some omissions here (what, no Liza Minnelli? No Cher? No Lucille Ball? No Jane Fonda?), but for the most part, Schreier does a super job of hitting high points of Hollywood wedding lore including, of course, the much-married Elizabeth Taylor (who graces the front cover of the book and gets her own special section inside).
Aside from the terrific photographs--many of which I'd never seen, and I own entirely too many movie-oriented books--the eye candy is more than matched by the many anecdotes, like:
1) Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy's bridal gown designer was African-American;
2) "Bride of Frankenstein" actress Elsa Lanchester's bridal hairdo in the film was inspired by ancient profiles of Egyptian queen Nefertiti;
3) Olivia de Havilland kept her Dior costumes from the 1962 bridal picture "Light in the Piazza" and when she sold them later at auction, the successful bidder was the House of Dior, buying them for their collection;
4) Marilyn Monroe's gown from her first marriage (at age sixteen in 1942) was later worn, sans sleeves, by Monroe's niece on her first date.
This is a wonderful book and reading it is a completely pleasant way to spend an hour or two.
Hollywood is Hysterical!!!.......2002-05-30
Hollywood Gets Married put a huge smile on my face! It's so exciting reading through all the funny antetodes and trust me, the Hollywood pictures are GREAT. I had read Hollywood Dressed & Undressed - Schreier's previous book - which I loved by the way, but this one I think is even better!
If you're a fan of Hollywood then you need to be a fan of Schreier's - buy the book.
This is not a wedding book-it's Hollywood and movie stars!.......2002-05-29
I thoroughly enjoyed reading the stories and studying the pictures. Hollywood Gets Married focuses on a very important aspect of the movies and movie stars-weddings and all the trappings that go with getting married and unmarried. You can enjoy the beautiful pictures of brides, but all along you know that the real stories are what happens to the people, both as film characters and in real life.
If you are a film buff, get this book. Its focus on Hollywood weddings is lively and informative. If you love movies, you will love the book.
Hollywood Gets Married.......2002-05-29
What a wonderful book! I just loved all the pictures and the fabulous stories. And this is not a book about weddings, but about Hollywood...such fun! It is the perfect gift for anyone who likes to be entertained.

Book Description
Five Centuries of Women Singers explores the careers of twenty singers from the late sixteenth century to the middle of the twentieth. In addition to personal information, the stories of these singers tell a great deal about contemporary musical life, about musical and dramatic ideals of the time, and about performance practice. The experiences of the singers also reveal much about the business of music --how women were dealt with by teachers, impresarios, composers, and audiences--and the perseverance and pluck that were and are crucial ingredients of a successful career. The twenty singers were selected on the basis of their contribution to and influence on the art of singing, their significance in the history of performance, what their careers reveal about the life of a professional female musician, and finally for the originality of their achievements. All of the singers included reached the pinnacle of their art with persistence, ingenuity, and unsurpassed musicianship.

Pretty useful book.......2001-08-22
This book contains good ideas for all ages. You can use ideas from one type of party and just change the theme. Also good ideas for school parties, etc.
Pick a pack of parties with the Pick-a-Party Book.......2000-12-17
The Kid's Pick-a-Party Book has loads of ideas for children's parties. The party age ranges are from toddler to teenager, and are identified in the table of contents for easy reference. We have used a number of ideas for different theme parties. The book focuses on a wide variety of party ideas, but doesn't address the typical party themes, like Valentine's Day, holidays, etc. It does have a ghosts and goblins party and we used some of those ideas for a Halloween party. It is well organized and has ideas for invitations, costumes, decorations, games, food, favors and more.
This is a wonderful book for ideas and themes!.......1999-11-11
If you have younger or older children, this is the book for you! If you have no ideas where to start or need great ideas. This book is wonderful! I needed some different and neat ideas and I found them in this book. I just can't say enough about this book.

This is where the real driving force lies.......2007-05-15
43 yo (and getting better) beginer enterpreneur-
Without the drive to be able to jump out in the abyss, well nothing you know or do will take you to your dream.
this book hwelped see that I am the one who eventually puts the "worth" on my value- not a comforting fact, specially if like the heroe of the story, you see the millionare gentleman looking down at you with that exression of pity and saying.. "that really low"... but then again, if our mindsets are limited and our notion of prosperity is 2.5 x your regular income, then thats what you are most likely to get.
I congratulate the reveiwer who said that the book helped him achieve a 6 figure income in 8 months... I wish I could say the same, but do not expect a 100% guaranty on anything in life.. maybe its true that we have to jump out, crash, have our bones heal again and jump again.. scary??, you bet!
Great Financial Wisdom.......2007-04-12
