Great look into the working of Valentino.......2006-07-12
Great photo process showing how Valentino has been developed over the years as a fashion house for glamourous people all over the world. Beautiful photos and a beautiful coffee table book that all your friends will enjoy.
Lousy text, fabulous photos........1998-10-23
Buy this book for the pictures. The text is awful--it is poorly translated from another language (Italian, I suppose), and it's badly laid out, with the text split by photos and running to the far edges of the pages.
However, the text really doesn't matter. The photos are wonderful and cover every decade of Valentino's glorious career. Bows, polka dots, flowers; Sharon Stone, Marisa Berenson, Brooke Shields; lace, satin, chiffon... This is a beautiful book.

Book Description
Anotsu Kagehisa has turned his Ittö-ryü into the most famous sword school in Japan, a dojo of outcasts and eccentrics who`ve slaughtered their way to the top of Japan`s world of the blade. But as the old Japanese saying goes, The nail that sticks up gets hammered down, and now Anotsu must relearn that ancient lesson when he discovers the existence of the Akagi, a mysterious organization formed from the survivors of the many rival sword schools destroyed by the ruthless Ittö-ryü. The Akagi are sworn to vengeance against Anotsu`s dojo, but what Anotsu doesn`t know is that the Akagi are wooing the immortal samurai, Manji, to join them in their war to exterminate the Ittö-ryü!
Customer Reviews:
We Are All Outcasts.......2003-01-19
Having managed to read every other volume in this series except 'Dark Shadows' I can state as a fact that this is one of the most important volumes in this series about Rin, Manji, and the hunt for the Itto-Ryu who killed Rin's parents. It takes the thematic material introduced earlier and starts the process of making a series of story arcs into a narrative whole.
For the first time we discover that there are others hunting Anotsu Kagehisa and his ruffian band of super killers. Moreover, there are others just as anxious to court what they perceive is Anotsu's rising power. Some of Anotsu's motivations are clarified, and we meet Magatsu Taito in new circumstances. Magatsu will come to play an important later in the series.
The Mugai-Ryu are introduced as opposition to the Itto-Ryu. Led by Hyakurin, a woman assassin, they are little different from the 'bad guys.' In fact, they may very well be worse. However, they are anxious to recruit Manji, taking advantage of his fighting skill and his commitment to Rin's quest.
Rin, on the other hand, begins to realize that she is much more than a vengeful sword fighter, and much less as well. She came from a gentler Samurai tradition than the rough fighters that are now part of her life. Even Manji, who shares at least some basic understanding of duty and honor is a far cry from the world of her father. But Anotsu's followers and their opponents are something else entirely, and the young woman begins to question her own actions and rue the strength she lacks.
Hiroaki Samura has an easy talent for moving from extreme violence to the simply grace of a woman's play with the man she loves. And back again. It is as if to remind us that the killing that moves the story forward is only an agency, not the purpose of the story. There is a quirky justice to what befalls many of the characters in the stories to come, and the reader should not assume that blood is the only possible resolution.
Not the best, but good none the less.......2002-02-02
I felt that this was the worst of the BOTI series to date. The plot was good, but brief, and the new cast members were fun. The problem I had was Rin. While she has always been a little slow to catch on to the real world, she seemed almost dumb to it in this book, as if she could not handle the real world. After watching her slowly wake up in the previous episodes, that was a draw back.
Everything changes after this..........2001-07-10
In 'Dark Shadows', everything changes for this multiple award-winning manga. For those new to _Blade of the Immortal_, flick over to the first of the series, 'Blood of a Thousand'. An understanding of what has gone on before is essential to fully enjoy this sixth graphic-novel installment.
Before, the story arcs of BotI fell into a comfortable pattern: Rin and Manji wandering around until they met a member of the Itto-ryu; the usual banter and posturing before blades are drawn; Manji getting carved on to lesser or greater extent; Rin struggling with and attempting to moralize what is essentially a revenge killing spree. Using this pattern, Samura explored a number of themes, such as obsession/compulsion ('Conflict'), ethics ('Cry of the Worm'), duty ('Dreamsong'), redemption ('On Silent Wings').
With 'Dark Shadows', however, Samura dramatically changes the formula, and just in time. Not that the story was getting stale--far from it--but some overall progression was needed, and here we have it: in this volume characters and situations are introduced that will effect the rest of the work as a whole (12 or so compilations worth in Japan), and Anotsu Kagehisa slowly begins to take his place as the manga's true protagonist, a man willing to do anything to save his country from what he perceives as steady stagnation. If there are casualties along the way, so be it.
Manji and Rin show up only in the last third, and there isn't much in the way of 'action' (at least in comparison to bloody epics like 'Dreamsong'). Still, one can feel a tension slowly building under the surface, a conflict-in-waiting that explodes in the next comp, 'Heart of Darkness.' And the repercussions of this volume are long-standing; in terms of plot development, this the most important volume (next to the first, of course)released so far. Not to be missed or overlooked.
Dark Shadows are just the beginning of the Darkness to come........2001-07-07
The first half of this book mainly concentrates on the Itto-ryu, especially Magatsu and Anotsu, and Itto-ryu's future. The second half is about Rin and Manji meeting the ominous Shira.
This is the book that introduces us to the mysterious Akagi assassins (Mugai-ryu), a misfit group after the Itto-ryu (the sword school that killed Rin's parents) for *unknown* reasons.
Shira and the Akagi play an important part of the next volume "Heart of Darkness," probably the best, most disturbing, and most violent BotI book.
The artwork is quite amazing and disturbing, especially in the later half of the book the scenes with Rin and Shira.
The story widens in scope, and the plot thickens.......2000-11-11
The pace of Blade of the Immortal doesn't let up in this sixth volume, and it doesn't let the readers down. The Itto-ryu have wiped out the other sword schools of Japan. While the previous volumes have focused on Rin, whose father was killed and mother raped and killed by the Itto-ryu, this volume presents us with a wider scope: the Itto-ryu are moving up in the political world, and they have made perhaps deadlier enemies than Rin and her immortal bodyguard, Manji.
As always, the artwork in Blade of the Immortal is superb, and the writing and characterization are as strong as the previous volumes. If there's a flaw here, it's that the focus of the story leaves Rin and Manji (with whom we've basically remained throughout the previous 5 volumes) for too long--they're in less than half of this volume. But that's a quibble, really; watching how the Itto-ryu is growing and splintering all at once, and how its enemies have begun to move is fascinating. As always, this is a violent story, but it could hardly be otherwise with the characters involved. If you've read previous volumes, you know what to expect; if you haven't you need to--both to understand what's going on, and just because you need to if you're at all interested in comics.

Customer Reviews:
Best book on Ninja Burger ever.......2007-09-27
I highly recommend this book to fans of Ninja Burger! (And even people who haven't seen the light of Ninja Burger) It really added a lot to the concept of the site. The pictures were great, and the writing and format was excellent.
You'll almost swear that you're actually an employee being prepared for the rigors of working at a franchise. It's a fantastic and funny resource for anyone that wants a little more insight into this mysterious fast food chain. It was also one of the funniest humor books I ever read.
Not very funny.......2006-06-29
I just don't understand it. Sure, it is good for a few cheap laughs at first. The book is like one long running joke that just won't freaking stop. It just does not seem to be worth the $10 to me, even though I received it for free.
Hey there Buddy.......2006-06-02
If you like food, ninja, and secrets (and hate Detroit), this is the book for you.
The concept is very clever and some of the jokes had me elling o ell. Srsly.
Also it has lots of pretty pictures, and can therefore entertain even those of us who don't read good.
One star lost for pirate-bashing
"A dead customer is not a paying customer.".......2006-05-30
"A dead customer is not a paying customer." - good thing to know as an employee of Ninja Burger. This is just one of the many things you'll learn in reading Ninja Burger: Honorable Employee Handbook. Good for a laugh, this quick read will appeal to lovers of Fark.com, ninjas, and/or fast food employees.
Best Ninja Book I've Ever Read (Besides the Novelization of American Ninja 2).......2006-02-20
I was able to get an advance copy of this, and it is the most fantastic ninja-based book I've ever read. Besides the novelization of American Ninja 2, that is.

Must Have Addition.......2007-09-24
This game is absolutely fantastic. I've got a pair of buddies at work that I've conscripted into playing on lunch breaks, and we've all become addicted.
The humor just keeps us laughing, and the "But you must explain how" conditions on some cards always create good times. I would highly recommend also purchasing the Sumo Size Me addition pack as the money and honor counters alone are worth it, not to mention the awesome new cards.
Ah, grasshopper, you will have fun!.......2004-07-29
While I have been a fan of Steve Jackson for quite some time, my love is now firmly cememted after playing several of his newer games this weekend.
Picture the bad kung-fu movies of the 70's, now adopt one of those personas and deliver delicious hamburgers in 30 minutes or less, without being seen! Very tongue in cheek, and loads of fun. After selecting a persona, you get Fortune cards that can help you out on your mission, or hurt someone else's mission.
Then there are the missions. The mission cards have a set of dice rolls you must make, compared to your persona's abilities. If you succeed, you gain honor; if you fail, you lose honor. The player with the most honor gets the promotion to store manager, and wins.
Example - Ski Lift.
Man enters ski lift at bottom of hill hungry. When he reaches top, he is full of hot delcious Ninja Burger!
You must make a stealth roll at -2 because uniform contrasts with bright white snow. Next, you must make a climb roll at -1 to scale icy ski lift tower. If you win, you gain 1 honor.

When the economy slumps, competition between fast-food franchises heats up! Good Background Information.......2007-10-01
Maier does a good job putting Christmas and Easter into their appropriate historical contexts. Lots of good information that helps to place both into perspective.
The third part of the book, on the early church, is not as well done. There is less historical and archaelogical information brought into play. It was still pretty good, just not as good as the first two sections.
Still, I would recommend this book as one to help build a foundation.
A Christian history teacher's review.......2007-05-14
Paul Maier is a truly gifted lecturer. I've had the pleasure of watching two of his videos and if I lived anywhere near Western Michigan University, I'd sneak into the back of his classroom (he is a member of the history faculty there) on a regular basis - he has a gift for making the First Century A.D. accessible.
"In the Fullness of Time" continues this tradition. Maier has basically consolidated 3 other books into one larger volume (with a few changes) and he discusses the first Christmas, the first Easter and the ministries of the early Apostles, especially Paul and Peter.
Maier does a great job of bringing actual documentation that supports the stories of Christmas, Easter and the Book of Acts. He includes the works of Roman and Jewish historians, explains Roman and Jewish religious and political practices and deals with alternate theories that have been proposed. While this could be dry reading, Maier makes it lively and this volume reads more like a novel than a textbook.
So, who is this book for? If you are a well-read Christian who has looked into many of the facts that back the New Testament as it is written on your own, you won't find much new ground covered in this book. The internet has lots of this information scattered about. However, you are unlikely to find sources as concise and as well-written as this one. Plus, if you are interested in further research, it is well-documented with tons of footnotes.
If you are a new Christian or are newly interested in the history behind Christianity, this is a powerful introduction.
I give this one a grade of "A"
Surprisingly historical .......2006-07-30
Maybe it's because I enjoy reading historical literature... or maybe I am facinated by the notion the Gospel accounts are historical in nature. Paul Maier has done a wonderful job combining backround historical context, archeological artifacts, and a clear logical approach into a credible and refreshing look at what is was like to: experience the first Christmas, the first Easter, and what it was like for the early Christians after the resurrection. This is surprisingly enjoyable read.
A Must read........2005-05-20
Pail Maier, a expert in ancient history, has written a great book. from my understanding is that, this book was three different books now put into one. If you are a new Christian, you need this book. If you read this book as a new believer, you will have a better grasp of the background of the NT in reading this book, than going to a expositional preaching church for two years. It will lay a great foundation for your walk with the living Christ. If you a long time believer, and have not read this book, you should, for it will open your eyes, to the NT. Dr. Maier goes into the Christmas story, Easter Sunday and the early church. Great book.
Interesting, non-biased work by a scholar of ancient history.......2002-03-14
When I saw Paul Maier interviewed in a documentary on the life of Jesus, I searched for titles by this author, and when this book was listed, I immediately ordered it. I wasn't dissappointed.
Maier is a professor of ancient history at Western Michigan, and brings credibility and scholarship to a subject that is frequently approached with bias, often from polar perspectives. Professor Maier is one of the leading scholars on the writings of first century Jewish historian Josephus, and this book includes appropriate and informative references to this ancient source. As a student of history and an attorney, I found the book stimulating and thought provoking. However, the book most certainly does not read like a history text, and is interesting to both the historian and the person simply looking for some information on the historical context of the birth of Christ, his crucification and the biblical account of his resurrection. The book also examines the early church and the spread of Christianity. Anyone with an interest in these topics should read this work.
I very much recommend this book, and look forward to reading other works by Paul Maier.

Book Description
Sylvia Radcliff likes her men fast talking, fast moving and gone by the second date. At least, she thought she did until she meets the brooding and sexy Heath Williams while on vacation in Mexico. Heath is the polar opposite of every man Sylvia has ever dated ... only they aren't exactly dating. . .
Customer Reviews:
Primitive Passion by Shara Lanel.......2006-05-13
An evocative, well-written fantasy in which readers can easily lose themselves for a few hours. Ms. Lanel does a terrific job creating the Mexican jungle, a hermit hero and the woman many of us would become in similar circumstances.
Covering terror with brazen dissent, determination and her inner feminist, Sylvia doesn't give in easily to the demands placed upon her by her would-be rescuer. Unlike a knight in shining armor, Heath refuses to give her any help at all, even though he's the only human for miles in a dangerous environment--unless she does something for him first.
The explicit, erotic scenes that follow are worthy of the book's name. Three days of primitive passion may not be enough for this unlikely pair, or for the reader. I look forward to reading more of Ms. Lanel's books.

In the 18th and 19th centuries, colonization of so-called "primitive cultures" by Western countries was the way of the world. Powerful nations sought to increase their wealth and power by subjugating the peoples of Africa, Asia, and the Americas. Now, in the 20th century, cultures once dismissed as inferior have become a source of fascination to Westerners, who perceive in them a heightened spirituality, stronger sense of community, greater reverence for nature--all the things, in fact, that the West fears it has lost. Marianna Torgovnick, a professor and chair of the English department at Duke University, explores the West's modern quest for ecstasy in the provocative work Primitive Passions.
What makes Professor Torgovnick's book so valuable is how wide she casts her net. New Age philosophy, travel literature--even the movie Dances with Wolves--are all grist for her discussion. C. G. Jung, Isak Dinesen, Georgia O'Keeffe, and D. H. Lawrence populate her chronicle as she examines the different ways men and women respond to primitive ecstasy. Primitive Passions is an intelligent and illuminating survey.
Book Description
Marianna Torgovnick's Primitive Passions investigates Westerners' profound attraction to cultures that we call "primitive." Torgovnick explores the stories of Carl Jung, Isak Dinesen, D. H. Lawrence, and Georgia O'Keefe and the ways they used the primitive as a medium for soul-searching and personal fulfillment. Brilliantly linking literature, art, psychology, and cultural studies, Primitive Passions provides insight into our very notion of the exotic.
"Primitive Passions intends to provoke thought, not to tell you what you already know and for that reason alone it's extraordinary."—Walter Kendrick, New York Times Book Review
"A powerfully argued, impassioned, and intelligent exploration of the 'primitive' in our culture and in ourselves. Like Marianna Torgovnick's previous work, it is certain to be much discussed and provocative."—Joyce Carol Oates
"An inspiring effort to bring gender to bear on matters of race, ethnic identity, and spirituality."—Susan Gubar
"A fascinating, wide-ranging and provocative tour of twentieth century Western culture."—Cynthia D. Schrager, Women's Review of Books
Customer Reviews:
An essay on sexuality and ethnography with a literary bent.......1997-04-16
According to Torgovnick, the modern quest for ecstasy began during the upheavals of World War I, with a dread that Western civilization had taken the demonic turn. She tells the stories of culture icons such as Carl Jung, Isak Dinesen, D. H. Lawrence, and Georgia O'Keeffe as they discovered-whether with horror or relish-the primitive as a medium for soul-searching and personal change. Such persons have become role models, rousing people today who ache to experience what they sense to be humanity's primary meaningful link to the universe. It is this yearning, the desire to transcend the limitations of the body and western culture, as Torgovoick contends, that motivates an astonishing variety of contemporary practices stimulated by the primitive-such as genital piercing, New Age rituals , and the men's movement.
Torgovnick explores the psychology of our profound attraction to cultures we call "primitive." Whether located in Africa, the South Pacific, or the American Southwest, the primitive has become synonymous in the Western imagination with a range of emotions and experiences thought to be lost in modern life: reverence for the land and for nature; strong communal bonds; sexual plenitude; and, perhaps most intriguing, an ecstatic sense of connection to the universe and the life force. Torgovoick investigates the numerous ways we have turned toward the primitive out of spiritual hunger for such deeply human experiences-a hunger that could once be satisfied within the West's own mystical traditions but that often no longer can be.
Written in a flowing, page-turning style. this tour of early twentieth century infatuation with the primitive utilizes many sources to offer a cultural history that is entertaining despite its lack of theoretical insight into our cultural dilemmas. The volume consists of a laundry list of aspects of our culture. Religion, art, psychology, and literature are exploited for their insight into our ideas of spirituality and gender, and, ultimately, into the hidden but vital parts of ourselves.

Book Description
This book will celebrate 75 years of the most famous crossword in the world. In 1930, the crossword was not keenly received by The Times and it was owing to reader pressure that the crossword became a daily feature in the paper. With the British love of wordplay, riddles and puns, the crossword soon became an integral part of life in Britain. Included will be a crossword for every year since 1930 including the first ever crossword published in The Times and a specially commissioned 75th anniversary prize crossword. These crosswords will be taken from prominent days in history and will show the development of the crossword over the years. There will be specially commissioned articles from former editors, who are often compilers themselves, recounting their experience of the crossword.

Customer Reviews:
Good starting resource.......2007-05-07
This book was an easy read and recommend it to anyone that doens't have owning their own business experience.
Title is a marketing pitch that promises to make it easy for you. WRONG.......2006-07-01
Maybe if you are business-retarded this book might give you some ideas about the process of starting a business. But most of the material can be found worded differently by online articles or by using some common sense. Therefore, the book really does not provide any unique perspectives or tricks. Anytime a book gives you the impression that you can achieve something in a short period of time or simplifies it in a few steps, you know the author has watered the topic down so much that it ends up being a waste of time. But, hey its a good marketing strategy; it got me to buy it!
I'm a technology guy looking for a high-tech start-up book that really teaches you the "ins and outs." Does anyone have any recommendations?
Very Cursory Overview.......2006-05-06
Has some good tips, but there is a lot of fluff just to fill pages. There numerous worksheets to fill out, but there is no assistance is analyzing what you filled in on the sheets, other than to just think about it. You will not start most small businesses with this book's approach.
Start here...but don't finish here!.......2006-01-02
Rhonda Abrams lays the down the bear bones of starting a business. She lists what you need to do and provides a lot of the forms that need filling out, etc (but these may be outdated so you should check) and in plain english, explains how to get thing done...but that is all this book is...nothing more, nothing less.
The title is enticing. Anyone that has started a business knows that 6 weeks is ambitious. This 6 weeks does not take hold ups that may be out of your control into account. For example, if you send you LLC formation paperwork to the Secretary of State it may take 3+ weeks to be filed, whereas if you go to the Secretary of State you may be complete in one day. Always assume the fast track if you aiming for things to be doen in 6 weeks.
This book is a great, simple, non-threatening place to start but this should not be your only "small business" book on your shelf.
Author/ business marketer is below amateur!.......2005-07-21
There are 10 marketers off the top of my head, who simply would blow this information in book away! Save your bucks!
