how to cure olives or make cheese, these are some of things I wish that my grandparents would have toughs me if they were alive. such things are a truly becoming a lost art in our fast paced society. however, thanks to this and other books we the novice cook/gardener will find this vary pleasing book to have and use.

This is the best book out on natural hair styling!.......2004-11-21

When I learned that T'Keyah Keymah self-published a book on natural haircare I was intrigued. I think she's a beautiful and talented woman and have admired her personal style since her days on "In Living Color."

Having been disappointed by some of the books out now on natural haircare, I was a little hesitant to pay $20+ for the book sight unseen. Luckily, I managed to find a copy at my local library.

Kemah's book is only about 102 pages but it's about as close to perfect as a natural hairstyling book can be. She doesn't waste much time rehashing to same old information about basic care (shampooing/conditioning/ect) that makes most books of this type redundant. Instead she focuses mainly on hairstyles.

There are more than 35 featured here and while some are are pretty basic (medium afro and two-strand twists for example) she also highlights other popular styles like cornrowing, flat twists, and updos for locked styles.

Each style is featured in a beautiful full-color photograph with several black & white photos on the opposite page showing the styling technique.

It also contains a few styles specifically for children, which would be quite helpful to parents of black or biracial kids who aren't use to styling naturally coily/curly hair.

T'Keyah also uses some familiar faces for her models. I was pleasantly surprised to see actors TC Carson, Phil Lamar, and recording artist Pru Renfro modelling some of the styles.

Natural Woman/Natural Hair really does a great job showcasing the versatility of textured hair. I will definitely purchase a copy of this book after reviewing it. Like "No Lye," I'm sure I'll refer to this one again and again.

From the supplier: Fleischer-Smyth EVP Gerald Kolb notes that patience in dealing with government agencies and an eye for undervalued properties can prove to be highly rewarding for firms that take the risk of acquiring and turning around foreclosed properties acquired from the Resolution Trust Corp (RTC). The case of Siena Square, a property acquired by Fleischer-Smyth in Boulder, CO, is proof of this. The building, originally foreclosed by a local thrift bank in 1987, was taken over by three successive government agencies before it was sold by the RTC. A well-designed building with an excellent location, Siena Square had an unusually high vacancy rate caused by a tedious lease approval process. A careful tenant improvement strategy and effective broker communication led to the successful turnaround of the property which was 98% leased within a year of its acquisition from the RTC.

From the author: This paper simulates the effects of the REIT spin-off ruling by analyzing the actual real estate holdings of over 4,000 publicly traded companies. Specifically, we estimate the potential tax benefits for each firm and for each industry, both in absolute terms and compared to market value, to determine the types of firms and industries most likely to restructure as a result of the ruling. The calculations take into account the related impact of likely reductions in debt levels on corporate taxes, as well as the likely increase in investor level taxes from the requirement that REITs pay out nearly all of their income each year as dividends. The results suggest that the benefits to REIT spin-offs are heavily concentrated in a few industries and that while there may be a subset of firms for which REIT spin-offs would provide substantial tax benefits, in the aggregate, revenue losses are likely to be modest.

Pocket Guide / Advanced Tools?.......2004-07-16

While the terms "advanced tools" and "pocket guide" may seem incongruous in the same sentence, Rath & Strong has managed to package the essence of higher statistical tool use in a concise and accurate guide which does - as advertised - fit into a shirt pocket.

We have found a use for this book as well as the "Six Sigma Pocket Guide" amongst our Black Belts. Many times, it is reached for over the more thorough (and not so small) "Implementing Six Sigma" by Forrest W. Breyfogle.

Anyone who did not really cement the higher statistical concepts in the 2 - 4 weeks that most Six Sigma training allows should benefit from this book.
