This book features the first comprehensive interdisciplinary study of the mosaics from Antioch, one of the four capitals of the Roman and Early Christian world. A follow-up to the critically acclaimed Antioch: The Lost Ancient City by Christine Kondoleon, this volume includes the latest scholarly and scientific discoveries that grew out of the Antioch exhibition. For the first time, the research of art historians and archaeologists is combined with that of conservators and scientists to shed new light on mosaic and glass workshops.
The authors take an in-depth look at the Antioch excavations, which yielded a range of mosaics, sculpture, and glass- and metalwork spanning four centuries. They also explore the development of mosaic conservation in museums since the 1930s. Included are recent findings on mosaic materials, artistic techniques, glassmaking technology, stone quarries, workshops, trade, and patronage.
An introduction by the director of the Worcester Art Museum outlines the history of the museum's involvement with the excavations of Antioch, and gives insight into several personalities who were key to the realization of the project. The catalogue section offers detailed information regarding the archaeological context, art historical significance, and technical study of over 150 objects, including the finest group of Roman and Early Byzantine mosaics in North America, and a chronological series of 106 coins from Antioch. With 400 photographs and illustrations, The Arts of Antioch provides a new basis for future scientific and art historical study.

If one actually takes a read of the book, it is not so bad after all. It is full of useful hints and ideas. Like any other book, you do have to apply the ideas. Money, although printed on paper, does not grow on trees. It is not a perfect book, but not anywhere near aas bad as the other reviewer made out. You *can* make good use of it to make money.

I agree with the other reviewers, this book was very informative and really drives home that it is important to begin building real estate rental assets. I was really excited and eager to get started after reading it, thank you.
I also recommend "How to Make Fast Cash in Real Estate with No Money Down Deals!" by: Rod L. Griffin, it is very creative.

This is really a nice look at tapping the power of real estate. Upon rereading many parts of the book I began to understand Mr. Hicks cold, hard truth in taking over income producing properties through borrowing. The key according to Hicks is being able to borrow as much as possible for an extended time, at the best rate. If this occurs and the rental income covers your mortgage and overhead then you have a self-paying property. (Heavy emphasis on rental income).
Hicks free-wheeling philosophy is tempered with prudent warnings: Positive income over and above expenses must be present. Keep records. Do not be afraid of banks, etc. Do not let the bland book cover fool you...this is a terrific book!

Reading between the lines is worth your time........1998-09-29
This book is a nice jumping off point into the world of real estate investment.
It can teach you the basics of acquiring profitable real estate investments.
One of the best parts of this book is the emphasis on how to work with flexible sellers to get great leverage, or even buy property with no money down.
This book is a little preachy towards the other informational products that Mr. Hicks has to sell. If you can get past the advertisements, reading between the lines, you will find incredible methods and inspiration for the acquisition of income real estate.

Much of the work done over the past 25 years in feminist film theory has been in response to Laura Mulvey's "Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema," which is included in this collection. Many essays, here, expand, refine or modify Mulvey's original polemic, while others introduce new topics in the visual arts.
Though "Visual Pleasure" is certainly not the last word in feminist film criticism, it is among the first. As so much work in the field is in response to this single essay, it is a must-read for anyone embarking on feminist film criticism. Though Mulvey's argumentation is weak, the ideas presented, here, gave birth to a fruitful avenue of critical pursuit.

I recieved the book in excellent condition and have poured through it for hours. After a 20 plus year absence from "playing" music, I decided to return to the guitar but wanted to do it properly this time. The subject book has been of great use in understanding various music terms, proceedures, etc.
I would recommend this book to anyonme wishing to learn music "in-depth"
PS, it does include information on various "rock band musicians" as well as classical.

I find it hard to believe that any of these "strategies" would work. Hang up signs, assume mortgages, options... don't waste your time. I have read many books and this is probably the worst. It may offer some motivation, but the majority of these ideas are worthless!
READ ME! Get rich or die trying.......2006-11-15
This book essentially puts it out to get rich by looking for preforeclosures or distressed mortgages, getting a house on the cheap and having someone else pay for the mortgage. Overall a general good book to read and a must have for the real estate investor's library.

This is one of the best books about building a real estate business I have ever read. If you already have a few income producing properties then this is the book for you. There's a ton of books out there for people that want to start investing in Real Estate, but if you already own properties and want to learn more about building a real estate business that works so you don't have to then this is the book you need. I read the book cover to cover and it is a GREAT value, dollar for dollar you cannot get better information!
Oh, My!.......2006-06-28
This book functions primarily as a large advertisement for the author's seminars/classes. Most of what the book presents is naive, simplistic or just plain wrong. The financial side techniques presented include "tried and true" goodies that don't work now and didn't work when I first read them in a book my dad bought 40 years ago.
The negotiating tactics don't work. See Spin Selling for some of the best sales and negotiating material out there.
Of course, if you are able to deal only with people who are completely ignorant of the real estate values in their town and who distrust lawyers, i.e., don't have contracts reviewed in lieu of using a real estate broker, you may get some of these gems to work for you.
And what do I know? Not much -- but I have appeared in court as an expert appraisal witness, made a few million in real estate (& yes, I still read books. Who knows when I'll find a good idea?) and been a real estate broker for 30 years.
The author, if he ever made any money in real estate, is now, it would seem, making his money selling his seminars. Run, don't walk, away from the author and his materials.
