Sure, "Radical Rags" is an amazing book, but very few could actually afford, or indeed have the guts, to wear many of the designs it features. This book shows how the look of the '60s trickled down to the middle American masses. Don't be put off by the Sears name--many of the outfits here are divine, and some are downright outlandish. Even the prim suits look fresh and cute. Unlike some other books on vintage clothing from this publisher, this one features actual source photos from the period, so the hair-dos, make-up, accessories and overall look are accurate. The companion volumes on the late '60s and 1950s are equally fab.

Everything you wanted to know about the movie.......2002-08-02
This commemorative book, published in 1992, certainly does its job of commemorating the movie Casablanca. It's a slender book with tons of photos of the actors, sets, and posters from the movie, and packed with everything you seemingly would want to know about it.
You find out about what led to Casablanca's production, its inspiration, how the actors were chosen, the history occurring at the time that helped it along, the quarrels on set, the difficulties with budget and timing, the process for coming up with the ending of the movie. You learn about the director's accent and odd way of speaking that sometimes confused everyone. (When he asked for a "poodle" and such a dog was brought, he angrily tried to clarify that what he wanted was a "puddle". ) You learn about Bogart's standoffishness to Ingrid Bergman, and Peter Lorre's continual playing of practical jokes on the cast. There's a bio about each actor, and how the movie affected his or her career, and a listing of movies that were intended copies or spinoffs. This is a great book if you love Casablanca, its actors, or want to know about moviemaking of that era.

Not a lot of sign language.......2002-06-26
I was under the mistaken impression that this book would contain sign language interpretation of songs for church. It contains mostly refrains and while that's okay, I really would have preferred being able to choose what I might want to sign out of the whole song rather than being given a small part of the song to sign.
Good, but left me wanting more........2001-03-22
As a Sunday School Superintendent, I'm always looking for something new and different for my kids to sing. The songbook, "With Heart and Hands and Voices" does offer 22 bible songs suitable for children, but the majority are already familiar standards. Also, a lot of the songs offer the refrain only and you are left wanting more. The great thing about this book is the sign language. Kids LOVE to learn sign language. I think they get a kick out of doing something mom and dad may not know how to do. The illustrations are done very well and are easy to follow and teach. The book includes very helpful tips on how to enhance the performances of each song, and information about the songs author. I am pleased with the book if only to teach my kids the sign language that goes along with songs they already know. Overall, a good investment for any Sunday School.

Good Book on Mah Jong.......2007-04-18
This is one of the better books on mah jong, but I'm still left with a few questions that need to be cleared up where she wasn't specific enough. Other than that, great pictures, very clear diagrams and good explanations of Hong Kong, Shanghai, Taiwan, and 12-tile Mah Jong. And it's written by a native Mah Jong player, not just a westerner who's been there once or twice; someone who has been playing it for her whole life in China.
Classic Mah Jong.......2007-01-27
There are two excellent books, about the same size and illustration value, which focus on the Classical game, not the myriad of foreign add-ons with their complex & peculiar hands: this one and The Happy Game of Mah-Jong (Paperback) by David H. Li, native Chinese mathematician and scholar (translator & editor of the fine Anelicts of Confucius with its priceless, concise, notes). These fine books together make a superb set. Amy Lo writes with the modern feminist (a misnomer, to be sure) "social statement" English, "he and/or she", &c., ad infinitim, but this affectation does not spoil the book. Miss (Ms., Mrs. ?) Lo and Mr Li cover the same traditional game from different perspective which, together, offer the reader a stereoscopic view which aids understanding. The classic game is complex enough in the motion of congenial sociality without desperate recourse to "special hands" Western variations which became popular in the 1930s with the various coffee clutch set.
Good guide.......2004-12-03
This book describes most of the basic combinations for Asian style Mahjong and I have used it with several classes. There are a few problems that should have been edited but are easily corrected. I like the book because it explains the rules and scoring of Mahjong and provides pictoral references of dealing, set up of walls, and scoring hands.
A Must Have..........2004-02-27
...if you intend to play the game the way the majority of the people on the planet play it. Oddly this is the only book readily available in English that does so. She could do a better job explaining the seemingly arcane scoring system, but for the most part this was a much appreciated addition to my library.

Gostick and Elton have captured the essence of good management. They have given their readers clues to what makes employees tick and highlighted the dangers of not rewarding exemplary behaviour. I am a huge fan of Chester and Adrian and my hat is off to them for writing a great New York Times Bestseller. Parables are huge these days and business people love 'em.
If you want an enjoyable read that is heart warming and informative this is it. And what's more, you might just learn something about how NOT to treat people who work for you.
Please understand I am biased in my opinion because if have gotten to know Chester Elton as a fellow author and he is simply a "stand up guy." You don't find people in this business like Chester, class all the way.

I came across the co-author Chester Elton at a seminar last year. He is very entertaining but most important, his message is one for all managers. It's up to managers to make their employees feel rewarded and recoginzed. The Invisible Employee tells us that this concept is one of the easiest and yet most overlooked aspects of our jobs. Using a fable format the authors drive home the point that happy employees do in fact perform better and contribute more. A great read for every manager!
