Book Description
These essays on abstract painting by eleven of its most incisive critics trace the development of such critical issues as hard-edge painting, deductive and serial structure, monochrome abstraction, the psychological analogy, regionalism, and the "death of painting" in Postmodernism. The introduction and commentary by Frances Colpitt situates the essays historically and examines their philosophical sources and influences, from formalism and phenomenology to structuralism and poststructuralism. What emerges is a coherent and optimistic picture of abstract painting--the definitive contribution of modern art.
Customer Reviews:
excellent overview.......2006-10-30
A great selection of critical essays about Post-War abstraction, ranging from the introduction of hard-edged abstraction to the post-Post Modern pluralism of the late 90s. Also serves as an interesting study of the academic concerns of the past four decades.
Book Description
Robert Motherwell (1915-1991), one of the leading American Abstract Expressionist painters, was also a theorist and exponent of the movement. His writing articulated the intent of the New York school --Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, Adolph Gottlieb, Franz Kline, Arshile Gorky, and others--during a period when their work was often reviled for its departure from traditional representation. As founder of the Documents of Modern Art series (later renamed the Documents of Twentieth-Century Art), Motherwell gave modern artists a voice at a time when very few people understood their theories or work. This authoritative new edition of the artist's writings about art includes public lectures, essays, and interviews. Impeccably edited, with an informative introductory essay and rigorous annotation, it is illustrated with black-and-white images that elucidate Motherwell's writings.

32 Years Of Good Cooking.......2002-01-05
I received the hardcover "How to cook like a Jewish Mother" in 1969, (copyright 1969) at my engagement party.
I have used this book constantly throughout the years - the directions are simple, the results delicious and the recipes are very easy to make. I am still married to the same man and have four sons who still love my cooking.
This cook book made a wonderful Jewish cook out of newly converted Jewish girl.

oy vey! What a great book this is. .......2007-05-14
I am not going to lie to you. I am neither Jewish nor a mother, but I fell in love with this book the first time I read it. I don't remember how old I was exactly (somewhere between age ten and age fifteen). It was brilliant! For starters, the diagrams and illustrations about everything from appropriate footage for swimming (any water covering more than the ankles is too deep) and appropriate characteristics for a good Jewish daughter are illustrated to the tenth degree. This book is charming and funny. We also get a good sense of the kind of mothering Dan Greenburg experienced, as a young boy, and how this may have affected him in later life(!). You hear the saying, "A man marries his mother, when he marries his wife, and a woman marries her father when she marries her husband." I definitely think that there is some truth to that. Read this book and find out, through pictures and stories just how true that is!
One of my all time favorites.......2007-04-17
I had this book when I was in high school. I'm not jewish or a mother, but like the book says "you don't have to be jewish or a mother to be a jewish mother".
Now, you get off this website and go make yourself a nice sandwich.
Even truer now that I'm a grandmother........2005-02-11
I was given this book over 30 years ago when I was a single mother raising two boys. I don't remember reading much in those busy, hectic years, but I remember this book. I laughed and laughed.
I'm a grandmother today and I've still got the same, now tattered copy of that adorable Dan Greenburg's book. If anything, what he says of Jewish mothers is even truer once we become Grandmothers.
e bravo dan greenburg.......2004-01-29
I looked for this book in New York and one day I got it. I mean, a friend bought it in New York and brought it to Italy. Then I read it. Fantastic. Universally true. Should be compulsory in schools, everywhere especially in Italy. Sort of vaccine. I am now translating it into Italian. I know there is a translation on the web, but I don't like it. Its title will be:
LA PERFETTA MOMMA ITALICA. MANUALE DI AFFETTO MATERNO.
I verymuch hopo that it will be published in Italy!

Funny - but not helpful........2007-03-18
Someone recommended this book to me as something that would help me deal with my own mother. This book is funny, but if you're having a real problem dealing with your "Jewish mother" and want peaceful ideas on how to cope, this is NOT the book for you. If you just want to read something kinda funny, go for it.
If, however, you are tired of your mother (or father) using the guilt tactics on you, you should try "Toxic Parents" or "Children of the Self Absorbed". These books offer constructive ways to actually get over emotional abuse. I know there is a small chance that you searched for this book looking for actualy help, but just in case, I hope I gave you some constructive options.
Great Book!.......2005-08-27
Very truthful and hysterically funny! I would recommend this to anyone who has a jewish mother (and to others who are not Jewish because some of the stuff in the book applies to all mothers.

Recipes that "rock"!.......2004-07-06
Food writer and former professional baker and magazine editor Margie Lepanja and teamed up with Cindy Coverdale (wife of David Coverdale, lead singer of Whitesnake, Deep Purple, and Coverdale Page) to issue a unique cookbook that showcases musician owned restaurants, musical cookbooks and songs about food, chefs who perform as well on stage as they do in the kitchen, and recipes that "rock"! From Spicy Chicken Wingers; Pasta Alle Bossi with Pizza Bead; Ty Peanut Sauce with Rice and Veggies; to Garlic Rubbed Rock & Roll Rib Steak; Pennsylvania Funnel Cakes; and Oatmeal Honey-Butter Biscuits, Food That Rocks are recipes that would grace any dining occasion. Enhanced with "Players' Hot Links" websites and "Hospitality Suite" acknowledgements, Food That Rocks is an enthusiastically recommended cookbook.
THESE LADIES ROCK!.......2004-04-28
I had the good fortune to chat with Cindy (one of the authors) and she was delightful. The recipes ARE really good and different tham the usual staid cookbooks. The bits on the musicians is worth the price alone - the good food is a bonus. I'm praying I don't gain too much as I go through the book.
Hey Cindy - how about using a recipe from me in the next book?!?
Backstage pass and complete access.......2004-01-11
Authors Margie Lapanja and Cindy Coverdale have gathered recipes from people from all over the music world: superstars, divas, session players, and disc jockeys. You'll also find out which musicians own restaurants or have written their own cookbooks. But "Food That Rocks" is more than that. It's your very own private concert. You get a backstage pass and complete access to a myriad of recipes. It's a cookbook like no other! You have the opportunity to read all sorts of fun facts about your favourite musicians and get a glimpse into their lives because they are sharing their most-loved recipes and childhood recollections. Being a huge David Coverdale fan, the first recipe I tried, of course, was the Soulful Shrimp Soup, a delightful southwestern dish. Serve it with a salad and some corn chips and you've got a meal that is not only tasty but healthy as well. "Food That Rocks" is a great gift idea but get yourself a copy also. I can guarantee it will sit among your very favourite cookbooks and that you will be using it regularly. These are real, time-honoured recipes that are easy to make and also delicious! I can't wait to try them all. Too bad eating the same food as all these musicians won't make me any more talented! :-)

Book Description
Every Star System Has Its Heroes.
From the Outer Rim to the Galactic Core, countless different species populate the galaxy. While most members of each of these alien races share similar characteristics, among every species--from Geonosians and Jawas to Clawdites and Krish--great heroes and despicable villains can be found.
This sourcebook features:
• Descriptions of 180 alien species, including those from Episode II: Attack of the Clones.
• New prestige classes, including the Aerobat, the Changeling, and the Findsman.
• Species-specific gear and weapons, including Nagai electromesh armor, the Cerean meditation crystal, and the Kerestian darkstick.
To use this sourcebook, you also need the
Star Wars Roleplaying Game Revised Core Rulebook.
Customer Reviews:
Pretty good effort.......2007-01-10
One of the problems with Star Wars these days from an RPG perspective is that the prequels generated about a thousand new alien races -- and not all of them are all that memorable. Some are, and they are worthy additions here. I guess it's hardly a criticism to say there's too much material, but that's almost what it feels like sometimes with this book. Still useful for both the SW book collector and obviously the RPG fan.
A lot of GREAT info for star wars enthuist........2006-03-23
I really enjoyed looking over the TONS of aliens species in this book. It expanded options for players and gm's alike for choices they could do. I enjoyed the many options that were available to you as either a player or gm, or just curious to see what was in the star wars universe. I've never really encountered such depth and brevity together in a sci-fi universe. I did like the way they expanded on the core rulebook races. As for monsters, well, the star wars universe is about interacting more with others then it is about killing monsters, but this is d20 and there are PLENTY of monster compendium and ultimate advesaries can help you with that. I did like the art work but it was clear that differant artist did do the work and it isn't always done smoothly. But there is enough there to get an idea, even if it isn't always to scale as per the 'real' alien. I wouldn't pay $250.00 for this book though. But if you need some fresh ideas about alien races or just more characters then this would be for you. I liked the descriptions thourough but not overdone in the least. The book gives you enough to get you started and if that isn't enough gives you guidelines on how to make your own race. I'm not sure what is seriously lacking in this book.
StarWars Ultimate Alien Anthology.......2005-09-15
This book ROCKS! One look at it and it starts to sink in exactly how diverse the StarWars universe has become. It expands upon races in the Core Rulebook as well as introducing huge numbers of interesting aliens. Also included are a few new feats and a couple of Prestige classes that are very welcome.
Whether you play this game or not, getting this book just for background info on races in StarWars makes this book worth it to me.
Loads of Aliens!.......2005-08-04
I would definitely recommend buying this as your second book after the core rulebook. Basically, it's just pack from front to back with a few hundred alien species. All stats are given, so every alien type is available for player or GM characters. Some have complained that there are no creatures in this book, but the Star Wars series has never been about dungeon crawling. If you need creatures, the famous ones are in the core book, and if you want new ones, there's a good creature creation section there too. This book, on the other hand, gets to the meat of Star Wars encounters--facing down aliens of all races and types. You'll definitely want to pick this up to populate your campaigns. Before long, you'll be able to recreate your very own alien cantina. Perhaps my only complaint is that the artwork was done by several artists, and some of the artwork isn't as good as it could be. Hopefully in a future edition, some of the sketchy artwork will be replaced.
Excelent book for any fan of Star Wars........2005-05-19
Now, I don't play the card game, but I was amazed at how many races of aliens were actually in Star Wars! There is in-depth information on all of the races including home planet, culture, and fighting abilities. This is a must for anyone. The ONLY reason I gave this book a 4 was because a few races are missing. For example the Selkath. Still, buy this book

In this strange and exciting collection, some of the best-known authors of the fantastic explore the intricacies and speculations of human encounters with the other...with aliens. From Robert Silverberg's examination of interspecies marriage to Arthur C. Clarke's classic tale of the exploration of Venus, from Mike Resnick and Nicholas A. DiChario's hilarious look at an alien radio broadcast to Nina Kiriki Hoffman's intense study of a woman taken over by a plant-like creature -- here are spectacular stories transcending time and space.
Customer Reviews:
Great Introduction: Practical Common Sense, Little Vodoo, No Magic.......2006-12-07
Kamich's book is not for the expert technical analyst or a professional day trader. It is appropriately respectful of quantitative and fundemental analysis, limits its discussion to the most proven and reliable indicators, and offers some clever speculation about the underlying dynamics of market structure and market participants that explains why technical analysis may be useful. It also provides a little history of technical analysis back to Dow.
The most provocative parts for me were the sections on gap analysis, volume confirmation, and his excellent chapter on reversals.
For someone who either does not know anything about technical analysis or else thinks of it as the astrology of modern finance (or the Rorschach Ink Blots), Kamich's book is a solid and sensible introduction that is as convincing as it is useful.
Note that this is not a catelog of all the major technical indicators or trends in technical analysis. For that book, buy "Murphy's Technical Analysis of the Financial Markets" also from the NY Institute of Finance.
Whether you believe in technical analysis or not, know that the people you are trading against do use these techniques and either way you should know what other participants are seeing in terms of signals and opportunities. This book is an exceptional start.
Not bad, but not great.......2006-07-04
Definately provides a good review of many TA approaches and I really like how Kamich inputs his personal commentary on the market psychology represented by the charts. The big weakness of this book is the lame charts. Considering this is a TA book, which is all about charts, one would think there would be good examples... There are not! I found myself drawing many of the charts he described. In my oppinion, he should have provided them.
A very good balance.......2005-12-22
Kamich provides a very nicely balanced approach, providing a thorough presentation without becoming an encyclopedia of every obscure technical tool available. The book was written long enough after the 2000 peak that the charts provide both bull and bear examples.
Excellent book, but not perfect.......2003-09-30
This is an excellent book for beginners and intermediate traders. It explains TA in a deep but simple way. The real value of this book (for me) is that it explains what is happening, who is buying and who is selling during chart patterns. It also explains how to trade each pattern.
After reading this book i feel much more calm and confident about what is actually happening on the markets. I can now have my own ideas of market movements, despite news, newsletters and other bloated sources of information. This book will serve as a reference for years to come.
The section on chart patterns is deep and complete. It contains all needed informations, but keeping a focus on price action.
The section on indicators covers (well) the most common ones. I would have liked more indicators.
A TA good book but not amazing.......2003-07-02
This is a solid book but it is not a 5 star book. Probably closer to 3 1/2 to 4 stars. Lots of stuff about pennants, flags, support lines, etc. The author does walk you through using the indicators which is very helpful. A lot of TA books describe and indicators and fail to tell you what to do with it. The sections on RSI and stochastics are also good.
I have been using some of the ideas with powerinvestor.com's software and been very pleased. Their web site uses simple to use sector models that have returned 30% a year since 1996.
