Great book for Disney fans. :).......1997-09-03
In Disney's Art of Animation, Thomas explains the birth of the Walt Disney co., from a handful of people meeting in a home, to the huge Disney phenomenon we know today.
The first half of the book explains the formative years of Disney, from before Mickey's time. This book looks into facts about the films themselves from an outside veiw. It keeps its eye on the whole company as it struggled along through the 30's, 40's, and even 50's. It talks about pre-Snow White cartoons and all of the full length feture films from Snow White to 1990's Rescures Down Under.
The last half Explains the process of creating a modern animated film from the standpoint of many of the people who had an infleuance creating the only Disney Picture to be nominated for Best Picture at the Academy AwardsÐBeauty and the Beast. Thomas explains how each aspect of the film is created and consolidated into one final, breathtaking work.
An excellent book for anyone intrested in animation and, not to mention, a Disney fan's wish come true.
Disney fans, rejoice!.......1996-12-19
What if the seven dwarfs had been Deafy, Wheezy, Baldy, Nifty, Swift, Lazy, and Burpy? Believe it or not, these are actual names animators considered for the dwarfs in Snow White. This fun fact and a wealth of other information can be found in Bob Thomas's comprehensive journey into the world of Disney animation. The first half of the book is a history of Disney animation starting with Oswald the Rabbit, Mickey's predecessor, and going all the way through 1990's The Rescuers Down Under. The second half of the book is a detailed look into the making of the Disney classic Beauty and the Beast. This book is filled with beautiful pictures and sketches from all of the Disney animated films through Beauty and the Beast. Any Disney lover will be intrigued and entertained

Rick Geary received quite a bit of critical praise for his Jack the Ripper volume of A Treasury of Victorian Murder, and rightfully so. The Borden Tragedy (the third volume in the series), is no less impressive. Based on the famous 19th-century Lizzie Borden double murder, this comic-book version of the event is supposedly excerpted and adapted from the unpublished writings of an unknown woman from the Borden's hometown of Fall River. The narrator, a friend of Lizzie Borden, is intent on finding out all of the facts behind such a grizzly butchering. We are taken through meticulously researched evidence, all stunningly illustrated by Geary, but Geary leaves us without taking a strong stand one way or the other. As an extra treat, the back cover includes a list of comparisons between Lizzie Borden and O. J. Simpson.
Book Description
³Lizzie Borden took an axe, gave her mother forty whacks, when she saw what she had done, she gave her father forty-one!² In this third volume of Geary¹s Treasury, the famous Lizzie Borden double murder is explored with as much attention to well -researched detail as in his Jack the Ripper.

good.. but not enough dialogue.......2007-08-20
best part is on the back cover where it compares oj simpson to the borden girl! very fun book to read although id have put more dialogue in it. but it does cover the murders nicely.
The Tragedy in a Nutshell.......2006-10-19
This is an illustrated novel to provide a quick tour of this famous unsolved crime. The `Bibliography' fails to list David Kent's "Forty Whacks", the one best book on this case. Geary's book necessarily skims over the details; there are no page numbers. If Abby was called to the front door to receive a note would the door still be triple-locked as at night? The position of Andrew on that sofa shows how he was found; he must have been sitting upright (try it and see). The drawing of the barn omits the stairs to the second floor. Geary sums up the arguments for Lizzie's innocence, and covers the other solutions from other authors.
The wounds on Andrew's skull suggest a right-handed killer who faced him; or a left-handed killer who struck while Andrew was reclining. Abby's killer would have to be right-handed to hit her right side of her head from the back; or left-handed if she faced the killer. This is one of the puzzles of this crime. The question about Andrew "apparently fallen over from a sitting position" can be explained by Andrew putting on his shoes to greet a secret visitor. Lizzie was guilty of withholding the identity of this visitor. But her actions were approved by the members of the Fall River ruling class. The back cover compares Lizzie Borden to O.J. Simpson on a number of similarities. The last item about "any other individual" points to an unknown subject given the lack of evidence against either (no bloody clothes or shoes, no murder weapon). Somebody else did it. It would be more accurate to compare Dr. Sam Sheppard to Lizzie. Both were at the crime scene, neither had blood spatter on their clothes or the murder weapon. Both were correctly found not guilty, but suffered from prejudice for the rest of their lives.
You can read about other True Crime cases. If no one in the household did the murder, it was an intruder (or unknown subject). The Borden murders was solved in Arnold Brown's book: it was a nephew of Andrew. Lizzie kept this secret to avoid a scandal. Members of the Fall River ruling class knew, and also kept this secret (except to acknowledge it was a secret). Arnold Brown spent two years researching his book. That was more time than the professional writers used. Brown admits he has no documentary proof for his conclusion, the nephew's birth certificate is kept secret by Massachusetts' laws. There can be no documentary proof of the Mellen House Gang conspiracy because a secret is never committed to paper (else it is not a secret). Brown believes the conflict was over Andrew's will. But a will does not require an heir's presence. Andrew did business from his home, he often made loans to people and foreclosed on their property when they couldn't pay. I believe the secret visitor was there to explain why he could not repay a loan that was due. There are many stories of murder for money in True Crime. Remember the loan from Dr. Parkman to Dr. Webster?
Very, very good.......2006-05-27
Rather than read a single book that "solves" the Borden killings (there's a new solution every few years), you should get a copy of this. This book beautifully outlines the ambiguity of the Borden scenario, leaving the reader with both the sense that noone but Lizzie could have done it, AND that there's simply no way she could have done it. This book clearly and beautifully lays it all out for you. With his expert eye Geary's illustration-diagrams clarify things in a way that even a movie can't. The wierd layout of the Andrew Borden house has never been more clear than in his cut-away illustration.
Noone understands like Geary, the usefulness to a reader of foregrounding the factual information, which leaves you in a position to think more critically about the events. I find his books to be the most useful authority for getting my head around the facts and movements of the suspects, moreso than in the non-fiction books covering the same topic. Geary's best books bring the crime scenes and milieus vividly back to life. His calm, methodical sequencing of the surrounding events lends an operatic and important scale to some tawdry murders. They are perfect for reading just before bedtime.
Did She Or Didn't She?.......2005-10-04
I enjoyed reading the history of Lizzie Borden following a 10 km walk in Fall River, MA. I walked by her original home and also saw her home on French Street where she lived after she was acquitted at her trial. This home is now a bed and breakfast and the Innkeeper also filled me in on the details of the home and the crime.
You'll learn a lot about history in this time period as well as Fall River and Lizzie's family.
popular and delightful.......2005-08-05
This is a short but entertaining comic book rendition of the Borden saga. The story is told in really well-done black-and-white drawings which will be especially appreciated by those who like their story told in pictures.

If Rog only wrote that book 30 years ago.......2002-10-14
When I started reading the book, only few moment passed before laughed so the bed was shaking. Couldn't help shouting YES! several times. Tried to tell her what was so right and so funny. All I got was The Look and The Sigh. She don't understand why there's this 3 ton pice of metal where she could park her car. This book should be mandatory for all male above the age of 13. If you don't understand the woman in your life get Roger's book - period.
Fun-n-ny!.......2002-05-24
For the man who loves his tools, this book is a hoot! We see the development of a man through the various stages of marriage and raising a family. Get it for the man in your life.
Great Gift.......2001-06-07
I enjoyed this book and I am not a collector of antique tractors, own a tractor, or even know how to repair old engines. This book contains much more than tractor jargon. It is a book about life, hobbies, and understanding yourself. The stories are humorous and real. Everyone I've loaned this book to has enjoyed it. This is a real find for any American male over the age of 40.
to know em' is to love em'.......2001-05-02
Reading anyone of Welsch's books is like having a comfortable conversation with a friend . . . truly a delight. Love, Sex and Tractors takes it up a notch providing unique insight into the author's views on the opposite sex and, of all things, antique tractors! People wondered what Zen had to do with motorcycle maintenance and then discovered a wonderous connection when they read that book. I can't promise you will extract similar profound understandings with Welsch's words. But you are sure to experience the devine liberation of a good laugh with this text.
Not for me.......2001-03-25
I loved this author's Shingling the Fog and my wife has read and liked other books by him. But Love, Sex and Tractors is a tasteless dud. It rambles along at a slow and boring pace, and just isn't funny. In fact we were put off by negative remarks about women (written in jest, but where's the joke?). Buy something else by Mr. Welsch.

Bawdy, Naughty & Nutty.......1999-02-24
Extremely interesting look at the world of "adults only" cinema, with a great layout, plenty of photographs, interviews and behind-the-scenes details about early drug, nudist and atrocity movies that usually promised a lot more than they offered! Seems well-researched and is thankfully non-judgmental about the films in question, most of which would probably rate a PG-13 on today's modern screens.

Thinking of swing trading?.......2007-08-31
This is a good book to understand the participants in the market and how they behave. The charts tended to be small and hazy which made it difficult to see each weeks information discretely. I would recommend this book to someone that is green to the market to illustrate the importance of trading with the trend and as importantly, with the largest participants in the market. Worth a read.
Review of Commitment of Traders Report.......2007-02-19
I am glad to consider Larry Williams as a friend, so it is was with great enjoyment that I read his recent book. One of the great pleasures and benefits of knowing the Specs is being able to meet and discuss market ideas with the best.
The commitments of traders report provides good additional information to speculators in the futures markets. Larry presents many good ideas for quantitative specs to test, and even hints at some of the many tricks he has up his sleeve, without giving away the family jewels. The book's use of charts is aimed at the less quantitatively inclined beginner, and while some of the chart-based reasoning suffers from chartism's typical retrospective bias, Larry does have a chapter on quantitative tests, although limited to win/loss ratios and amount of wins, and briefly discusses down days in S&P. However, any astute spec can test the many good ideas rigorously and develop his own more precise methods.
Ideas for new trades can come from any source, as the Specs have shown us, and new ideas are necessary to keep an edge in a competitive market. Rather than try to find entries base on comparing chartpoints and indicators which is non predictive, better to use the ideas and data to refine the entries. It is in this spirit that the book is helpful to a speculator. It's a fun an quick read, in Larry's breezy and folksy style.
In many ways the most basic and important call in the market is if it is going up or down. Seems so deceptively simple, but the paths it takes throw one off the track. Good information, just a bit more than the next guy, is what it takes to head in the right direction, and the COT report may give an edge.
Good Book.......2007-01-15
Larry gives good insight into COT report. It will open you your eyes, because you will know why the price change. With COT you will know what the big guys are doing and that is very important for trading.
There insn't much stuff for stock, almost all is dedicated for commodities...
