A must have for fashion photography fans!.......1999-05-26
The collaberation between black and white and color photos is appealing to the senses. Fashion is shown mostly through the images of super models and superstars. Included are photos spanning the decades and the world, with people of all races and ages portrayed. The portraits are refreshing and truly creative, using graphic design in just the right amount. Overall I would rate this as one of the top five fashion books one must have! I also recommend 10 Years of Dolce & Gabbana if you like this book for the great photography and design.

Book Description
The creations of Azzedine Alaia are considered by many to be the sexiest, trendiest, and most utterly original clothes produced by any contemporary designer. Alaia's talent and reputation, spread largely by word of mouth, has won him the adoration of an extraordinary suite of faithful clients, among them Naomi Campbell, Tina Turner, and Jessye Norman. Here the story of the young designer is told with flair and intelligence and is lushly illustrated with top-echelon photography of Alaia's signature creations - in all their exuberance and sensuality.

Book Description
Women's Work, the Family, and Social Policy focuses on the issue of women's work in Italy as seen in the context of the last three decades of the twentieth century and against the backdrop of changes that have been occurring since the late sixties in women's status in society and family. Using a comparative approach, the contributors analyze trends in women's employment, their motivations to work, the impact on fertility and family patterns of working women, strategies to conciliate work and children, effectiveness of social policy, and the effects of women's work on family's income and income distribution. This book looks at women's work from the point of view of the human capital thus being mobilized and its wide-ranging impact on society and the economy.

Book Description
The Invention of the Western Film ranges across literature, visual arts, social history, ideology, and legend to provide, for the first time, an in-depth exploration of the early Western, from short kinetoscopes of the 1890s through "classic" features of the 1940s. By examining the American Indian's rise and demise during the silent era, B- Westerns of the 1930s, and film noir-influenced Westerns of the 1940s, Scott Simmon's pioneering study silhouettes the genre's evolution against a myriad of cultural forces. This lively, encyclopedic book revitalizes familiar Western icons John Wayne and John Ford, and recovers forgotten masterworks from the Western film's formative years.
Customer Reviews:
Not What I Expected, but Interesting.......2004-07-07
I had expected a history of the Western genre from "The Great Train Robbery" to "Broken Arrow." However, this is not what Simmons is after. He looks at three issues/eras in the western: silent pro-Indian movies made before WWI, John Wayne B movies of the Thirties, and westerns such as "My Darling Clementine," which were made in the shadow of film noir.
There was nothing about William S. Hart or the "epic westerns" of the Twenties. Simmons assumes the reader will be fairly knowledgeable about the development of the genre.
However, after I got over my initial disappointment, I have to say that I found the book very interesting, even if I didn't agree with Simmons all the time. He writes in a clear style and has an obvious sympathy for his subject matter. (But he is by no means blind to problems people might find in westerns.)
Of the three sections, I most enjoyed the one on the silents and "My Darling Clementine." The latter section, by the way, talks a great deal about post-1950 westerns that refer back to "Clementine."
I strongly recommend this book to those interested in westerns, silent film in general, or John Ford.

Best for studying jazz-vocalists.......1999-01-09
Some books with mousic score and lyrics are not available in other countries except the land of their authors. It's difficult situation for those, who are studying jazz in Europe, for example. That's why Internet shopping make impossible things possible. That's why I'm so happy, that I can listen beautiful jazz standards performed by unforgettable Frank Sinatra and guests and now I can see the lyrics, notes and I can learn them. It's amazing. This book will help me learn more american jazz standards, more english, and give me lots of satisfaction singing them with my jazz band.

Customer Reviews:
what a waste.......2004-06-22
I thought this book would be chalk full of traps and challenge ideas for dungeons/caves etc, but it turns out to really just have four examples of setting where there are challenges. So you buy a book, to possibly place four ideas in your adventures and that's it. It is the worst buy I have ever made for a role playing acessory.
poor.......2003-04-01
this book turned out to be nothing of what i expected. i expected it to be a book of traps and various kinds of challenges in it, to give ideas to DM's who need a little help from time to time (as we all do). instead, what i got was a book that has four examples of particular challenges for various level of characters. i thought this limited the use of the book tremendously, and hence has been the book that i least spent time reading and using.
Good idea seeds, not much else.......2003-01-28
I purchased this book hoping that I would be treated to something along the lines of an updated Grimtooth's. What I got was a mixed bag of good advice for building your own traps and challenges, coupled with traps that fell far short of that advice. Some of the challenges are so poorly worded that you have to read them two or three times to figure out what the text is actually describing. The figures vary from very well annotated to not anontated at all. The solutions to the puzzles are frequently ones that even experiences D&D gamers would never think to try, because they suggest utilization of abilities in a manner other than they were intended. Setting all of that aside, there is a bigger problem: most of the traps make no sense. Who would have built such ludicrous mechanisms? Who would have populated them with such an odd assortment of creatures? How do such creature survive if they depend upon PC adventurers wandering into these traps as their sole means of food?!? Aargh. It comes down to this: if you were a wizard powerful enough to build some of these traps, you would have used your powers to build better ones. Summary? Good advice, but I wouldn't bother with the traps.
Book of Challenges -- a challenge to use it!.......2003-01-27
The format of the book is less useful. I was expecting something closer to a Monster Manual but for traps, and I was disappointed. Each "challenge" is formatted like a mini-encounter rather than a single trap or puzzle explained. Some challenges are 2-3 pages long. I prefer a bit more quick-use format structure so I can just pull out the encounter and plop it into my adventure just like a monster from the Monster Manual. I prefer Traps & Treachery by Fantasy Flight Games which has that type of structure.
Well done, but worthless.......2002-12-19
I realy like the artwork and the level of detail of the different traps that are described.
So for that part, the book is surely worth your money.
However, there is no rules on trapconstruction (sure they are in the DMG and "Song And Silence".
The traps you find have no calculated prices.
The advice on building puzzles is nice, but building a puzzle that fits in your campaign still is up to your imagination.
Some of the traps are smart, but all in all, I feel this book does not offer you anything.
As a DM setting up traps is the fun and joy of the game and if you need this book to do that, I think you should consider asking one of your players to take over DM'ing.
After all, what is being a DM about besides setting up traps and "ugly" encounters?
The content of the book would urge me to give it one star only, but the pro's mentioned in the first lines have raised it to two..... (doubt doubt doubt doubt....)
Book Description
Process mapping gives you an accurate picture of work flow and customer-supplier relationships, which in turn helps you make the right improvements. The Basics of Process Mapping introduces process mapping and shows you how to use it in your organization.
Two levels of process mapping are detailed:
Relationship mapping, which gives a "macro," aerial view of work relationships and the flow of work, and highlights customer-supplier interactions.
Cross-functional process mapping, which gives a closer view of work as it is really performed, across functions, showing where specific process steps fall.
The book contains a case study of both levels of process mapping and guidelines for when to use each type. It also explains the relationship of process mapping to flowcharting.
This book is great to use as a hands-on team resource, a training supplement, and a reference.

Concise introduction to process mapping.......2007-02-21
Mapping a process is not something I learned in college. Even after a decade of working in a company, even though there is an appreciation for having solid processes, I have yet to meet people who can lead a team to capture the As-Is processes. As my interest increased on this subject, this book was brought to my attention by a co-worker.
The first thing I learnt after reading this tiny book is the appreciation for the various levels of detail one can get into while mapping processes. Often, one sees a working group either quickly getting into details, or talking at a generic level without asking for specifics. At the outset, the author lays out the three main types of process maps and their corresponding purposes and levels of detail. This is of immense benefit to somebody new to process mapping. The "Relationship Map" shows how various departments of an enterprise (e.g. HR, Supply Chain, Manufacturing) exchange resources, while the "flowchart" shows various tasks involved in accomplishing a specific end (thus, this has the most detail).
The rest of the book unfolds, with examples, the "Relationship Map" and the "Crossfunctional Map". Tips to improve processes such as identifying disconnects and imbalance of detail are discussed. There is a section on anlayzing the developed processes.
The book is relatively tiny containing only 60 pages and can thus be studied in a very short time. This was also a reason I found this book inviting. At $11, the book seems expensive.
Simple, efficient, effective, right on target!.......2007-02-07
This book is rather for beginners in process mapping. It is clear extremely well focused, and effective. I got the information I needed in less than two hours of pleasant lecture. No dumb explanations about obvious real life examples covering more than 60% of the book! Book starts with a crisp and nice presentation of Relationship Map, Cross-functional Process Map and Flowchart. After that Flowcharting, Process Mapping, Relationship Maps, Cross-Functional Process Maps are explained and followed by an easy to understand example. The book ends with Analyzing a Process chapter that I found good to start analyzing and improving my own processes. The book is useful for managers, consultants and students as a start in process mapping and or process improvement projects. I'll keep it as useful reference for my work
Highly appreciate your work Robert, thank you!
work processes.......2006-07-31
easy read, good information and did not bog the reader down with filler material.
Great Book on Process Mapping for the Price.......2006-05-30
This book is a great high level overview of process mapping. It covers the basics: the flow chart symbols in a process map, swim lane diagrams, relationship maps, cross functional process maps, common analysis questions and common pitfalls for process mapping.
If you are new to process mapping, this book is great. If you are a seasoned process mapper or business analyst this book is a nice, briefcase-friendly reference. Internal consultants, business analysts, and any one wanting to do things better can benefit from this book. (Use it to educate your clients.)
This book can be an enabler for individuals desiring to make changes in their organizations. The basic practices in this book can help any business by allowing a few basic tools and techniques to be accessible to a large number of people.
Very good for a book on process mapping.......2005-03-26
Let's face it--there really isn't very much to process mapping. I've searched for books on it, and none of them seem to be more than 100 pages. The reason is that there isn't much to mapping out a process.
So, for the limited subject material, this book does an excellent job. It was a fast read. I think I read it in about 2 hours, going pretty slowly through it.
This book talks about three types of process maps, and from the book it says:
"Since most readers may already have experience with flowcharts, the main emphasis of this book will be on relationship and process maps. The steps you should follow to create both types of maps are included."
However, I think it focused equally on all three of the types of process maps. I mention this so you don't think that this will jut be a book on flowcharting.
I thought it was good, and helpful. It gave me some new stuff to think about, and it's a basic look at process mapping. And, like I said, there really isn't a much more complex way of looking at it.
