        Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

5 out of 5 stars Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

        5 out of 5 stars Very Interesting.......2007-03-07

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

I bought this several years ago at a large bookstore. It is full of beautiful, engaging, high quality photos and imagery with poetry and writing to enlighten and move you through the pages. Images cover black african hair from about the early 1900's up through the 1990's. A positive and enlightening book to have or give as a gift to women who wear their hair naturally. I don't regret purchasing this book and I never tire of it. (smile)

4 out of 5 stars The Stone Rose.......2007-10-01

This was a delightful Doctor Who story. Well written and a quick read. The author has a wonderful grasp of the characters. The ancient Roman setting is presented in an accurate and believable manner and, as ever, The Doctor and Rose will find mischief any where.

5 out of 5 stars Would make a great TV Film.......2007-02-20

Normally I am not into novels that are TV tieins as so many are off the mark. As a new fan of Dr. Who, especially of David Tennant and Billie Piper, I have to say The Stone Rose is marvelous. Jacqueline Rayner has captured the spirit of the new show and of the main characters.

It is obvious that the author has read enough good time travel fiction in the past to know about the problems with paradoxes and other such situations. Also how to blend fantasy and myth into being science, though not necessarily hard science. It is a fun read and I recommend it for all ages. So impressed am I that I am buying the CD version for car listening when taking grandkids on our next long trip.

Having never cared for the earlier shows, sorry Who fans, I can't vouch how good The Doctor's associates were. However, even in the novel, Rose Tyler rules. She is not just a helpless sidekick, she is easily the equal of The Doctor.

I will be gettinng other novelizations and can only hope those authors can measure up to this one. That can be a problem when more than one person tries to write novels based on a well known show and is why so many Star Trek novelists have failed.

4 out of 5 stars Just like an episode..........2007-02-12

The book reads just like an episode on television, which is both good and bad. GOOD, in that it basically captures the spirit of the show and gives the characters an adventure with a few close calls, puzzles to figure out, and timelines to cross. BAD, in that this isn't a television show -- it's a book.

See, the best thing about novelizations is that they let you explore things that movies or TV episodes can't -- emotions, thoughts, motivations, etc. A book is a great chance to get to know the characters better: to insert memories, to demonstrate how they reason and think their way through events, to explore how what's happening affects them and why, to delve into their feelings for other characters. All the kinds of things that are difficult to show on TV, but which really fill out a novel, adding depth and texture and interest.

It appears to be aimed more at young adults than the adult crowd, which is fine, so long as you're not expecting anything deep or meaningful. No plunges into the inner workings of the Doctor's mind or examinations of his relationship with Rose, here. Basically, it's a good book with an interesting storyline, plenty of trouble for Rose and the Doctor to get into, and even a brief tour of ancient Rome. The characterization wasn't perfect, and it seemed a rather simplified adventure, even with all that happens. But that works very well for the younger readers it's written for.

"The Stone Rose" is worth buying and worth reading. I give 4 stars, only because it does lack the depth I expected from a novelization. Other than that, it's a fine book!

        4 out of 5 stars Excellent.......2007-01-11

Rayner's books may appeal to a female audiance more than male--leave it to a woman to remember that people have feelings too, and that its not all about stopping the bad guy (or monster, or . . . whatever . . .)This is one of my favorite of the Doctor who books.

3 out of 5 stars Disappointed Dr. Who Fan.......2006-12-03

I won't go into the plot since others have done that beautifully already. First off I Love the show Dr. Who, and I have read both the old books and the new ones. In fact, I loved Monsters Inside by Stephen Cole. However, I was disappointed by this one, it started out alright, but then went horribly wrong. In the beginning I loved the Roman angle and the statue of Rose mystery. What I did not like was the last half, it was poorly written. As through the author did not understand about time paradoxes and yet was still trying to write about it. I still gave it three stars only because a day reading about a Doctor Who adventure is always better then not reading about a Doctor Who adventure. I would read this one when you have finished with the others and there is nothing left to read.

5 out of 5 stars Oddly enough - a Philosophy for Life included in a nice story.......2007-04-12

Unbeknownst to me, this book illustrates some of my deepest held philosophies for life; which apparently I learned on my mother's lap as she read to us! Additionally, it is a neat story, beautifully illustrated. The pictures add to the depth of the story because of Hillary Knight's great expressions on people AND animals. And the cat attitude comes through so well in the writing (things are mmmrh) and their expressions.
Long story short, here's two of the lessons: 1. Dreams are to be used to solve problems. 2. Dreams are not confined to singluar time and space (therefore you can meet with people from other times and spaces, such as relatives who have passed on. And, having dreamed my deceased grandfather and had discussions that have helped clarify circumstances for me, I'd have to say that the cats have the right idea.
          Enjoy!

I read this book in elementary school, and for years kept looking for it, wanting to see it again. It has some great illustrations, and smaller images on almost every page. Even if I weren't the cat lover I am, I'd still really like this book. It's charming, and well written, for being short and simple as it is. As in the title, I adore this book.

                    Book Description

Rites of Realism shifts the discussion of cinematic realism away from the usual focus on verisimilitude and faithfulness of record toward a notion of "performative realism," a realism that does not simply represent a given reality but enacts actual social tensions. These essays by a range of film scholars propose stimulating new approaches to the critical evaluation of modern realist films and such referential genres as reenactment, historical film, adaptation, portrait film, and documentary.
By providing close readings of classic and contemporary works, Rites of Realism signals the need to return to a focus on films as the main innovators of realist representation. The collection is inspired by André Bazin’s theories on film’s inherent heterogeneity and unique ability to register contingency (the singular, one-time event). This volume features two new translations: of Bazin’s seminal essay "Death Every Afternoon" and Serge Daney’s essay reinterpreting Bazin’s defense of the long shot as a way to set the stage for a clash or risky confrontation between man and animal. These pieces evince key concerns—particularly the link between cinematic realism and contingency—that the other essays explore further.
Among the topics addressed are the provocative mimesis of Luis Buñuel’s Land Without Bread; the adaptation of trial documents in Carl Dreyer’s Passion of Joan of Arc; the use of the tableaux vivant by Wim Wenders and Peter Greenaway; and Pier Paolo Pasolini’s strategies of analogy in his transposition of The Gospel According to St. Matthew from Palestine to southern Italy. Essays consider the work of filmmakers including Michelangelo Antonioni, Maya Deren, Mike Leigh, Cesare Zavattini, Zhang Yuan, and Abbas Kiarostami.

5 out of 5 stars Dangerous Curves: The Art of the Guitar.......2000-11-15

As a professional builder, collector, and lover of guitars, I have spent all of my adult life collecting virtually every book on the subject of guitars that has ever been published. I must say that at this point in my life I never expected to find another book on this subject that would excite me, but I was wrong. "Dangerous Curves, The Art of Guitar", by Darcy Kuronen, and Lenny Kaye is a sumptuous volume that is thoughtfully designed not only to educate, but to delight the eye. Richly illustrated with crisp, vivid photographs by Carl Tremblay, this book documents a very significant selection of many of the worlds historically important, rarest, finest, and unusual guitars ever made. The guitars' role as art object is usually ignored, but the point is beautifully illustrated here via the authors' insightful selection of such innovative, trendsetting instruments such as the Steinberger, Millenium guitar, and the Fly! I applaud the authors' for including many instruments by living makers, whose incredible works are often overlooked. The best part of this tome, may be the fact that it is a catalog for an incredible, and long overdue exhibit at the Museum of Fine Arts, in Boston. Even if you've seen them all, this book is a "must have" for your collection.Highly recommended.

                            4 out of 5 stars Not Bad.......2003-11-27

This isn't a bad guide for Mario and Luigi. It's got a walkthrough, maps and secrets but it seems as if something is missing when I look at it.

For what it's worth, the guide is actually worthy of 4.5 stars. The walkthrough is great and simple. You'll get through the game without much of any trouble at all. All puzzle solutions and tactics for defeating enemies if need be. No problems here really. My gripe is that these maps aren't detailed enough. They're actually the maps presented in the game. So they'll help you navigate but that means they miss a few key things such as item boxes.

The guide has an entire secrets section. Be forewarned that this section does have spoilers (and the guide will tell you it does). I can't express enough how helpful the secrets section was. I found all the beanstones, completed the mini games with the best scores and times ever! I was able to find all the strongest armors in the game! All the badges...everything I need!

Screenshots are crystal-clear and are pretty much everywhere. So while maps need work, the screens should help you in the right direction.

There is no reason why this guide isn't helpful. It's nearly perfect in everyway. Clear, easy to follow walkthrough. If you need help with Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga, you won't be wrong in choosing this guide.

5 out of 5 stars How to "experience the brand" and "brand the experience".......2006-06-08

Actually, the title of this book is somewhat misleading because Smith and Wheeler have as much of value to say about how to create an appropriate customer experience as they do about how to manage it effectively. In fact, the two are not only connected, they are interdependent. The ultimate objective is to establish an ever-increassing critical mass of customers who are "advocates" or as Ben McConnell and Jackie Huba would characterize them, "evangelists."

Obviously, customer relationship management (CRM) is a multi-stage process which begins with obtaining sufficient and relevant information about the target customer (or customer segments), proceeds through the design and implementation phases, continues with refinement and modification based on rigorous evaluation of CRM initiatives and measurement of their impact. Effective marketing creates or increases demand for whatever is offered whereas effective CRM ensures that "customer satisfaction" becomes "customer loyalty" which, eventually, becomes and remains "customer advocacy."

At this point, it is worth noting that, in several dozen research studies on what customers consider to be most important, three attributes were almost always ranked among the top five: feeling appreciated, convenience (i.e. easy-to-do-business-with or ETDBW), and perceived value. Cost? Depending upon which research study is consulted, it was ranked 9-14 in importance. By the way, Warren Buffett once observed something to the effect, "Cost is what you charge but value is what they think it's worth." Marketers and service providers would be well-advised to keep that in mind.

Credit Smith and Wheeler with providing a remarkably thorough analysis of how to manage the development of relationships with customers which evolve from their satisfaction to loyalty to advocacy. As Bernd Schmitt correctly notes in the foreword, "Towards the beginning of this book, the authors distinguish two key routes toward a Branded Customer Exerience: `experiencing the brand' and `branding the experience.' Experiencing the brand...begins with the brand, turns it into a promise, and delivers on it. Branding the experience is about creating an innovative experience for customers and then branding it.."

Starbucks offers an excellent example. Under Howard Schultz's leadership , the international chain of gourmet coffee shops demonstrates how to combine "excperiencing the brand" and "branding the experience." The result is that Starbucks has become, as Schultz proudly notes, not a "trend" but a "lifestyle." Perhaps no other organization treats its part-time employees treats better (both compensation and benefits) and they reciprocate with a consistency high level of service (both competence and cordiality) and thus function as - yes - advocates. According to Schultz, "What we've done is said the most important component in our brand is the emplopyee. The people have created ther magic. The people have created the experience." Appropriately, Schultz entitled his autobiography Pour Your Heart Into It.

One final point. Most organizations which have problems retaining valued customers probably also have problems retaining valuable employees. Hence the even greater relevance and value of what Shaun Smith and Joe Wheeler share in this book. Peter Drucker once observed, "If you don't have a customer, you don't have a business." There corollary to that insight: "If you don't employees who are competent and cordial as well as committed to the enterprise, you won't have any cuistomers."

Those who share my high regard for this book are urged to check out McConnell and Jackie Huba's Creating Customer Evangelists: How Loyal Customers Become a Volunteer Sales Force, Leonard L. Berry's Discovering the Soul of Service: The Nine Drivers of Sustainable Business Success and On Great Service: A Framework for Action as well as Theodore Levitt's The Marketing Imagination (which includes his classic HBR article, "Marketing Myopia"), Kenneth E. Clow and Donald Baack's Integrated Advertising, Promotion, and Marketing Communications (Second Edition), George E. Belch's Advertising and Promotion: An Integrated Marketing Communications Perspective, P. R. Smith and Jonathan Taylor's Marketing Communications: An Integrated Approach, and Noel Capon and co-authors' Total Integrated Marketing: Breaking the Bounds of the Function.

We do Graphic Design for Restaurants which is all about "The Experience". We have not only started using some of the suggestions for our own firm, but are purchasing copies for clients as Christmas presents.

5 out of 5 stars a must read for CEO's.......2003-06-04

As the CEO of a software company, I have been searching for PRACTICAL advice for enhancing the experience for our customers. Most books I have seen are full of theory and are basically worthless. If you don't walk away from this book with a list of action items, then you obviously don't care about serving your customers.

I believe that this book will be on my desk as a reference for a long time. It will take a couple of years to implement all that I learned.

                            Definitely worth the read!

4 out of 5 stars Not just philosophy, but how to design around the customer.......2003-05-03

Unlike others in the field, Wheeler and Smith lay out what you need to do to consciously design a business that consistently gives the customer an experience that lives up to their brand. In the rush to cost control, we often forget that it's easy to make life difficult for the customer, and the result is massive damage to the brand, even to the point of destroying the organization.

A must read, especially in uncertain times, where the tendency will be to cut, without regard for the customer.

5 out of 5 stars Managing the Customer Experience.......2002-12-05

We all know that the customer has already become the decision maker of company operations in the digital economy. Without custmers, no company can survive. Shaun's book certainly uncovers the secrets on how to sustain the performance and growth of the company. He illustrates his proven model with a number of cases we can benchmark. In this regard, I dare to say that this book may be used by all business people as the bible of management.
