Great photos for referenc.......1998-08-24
This is a great book for reference of 50s fashions. It is full of color photos of clothing ads from the 50s and actual garments and accessories. It also includes a helpful glossary and index.I don't care for the look of the manequins the clothes are displayed on, otherwise I am very pleased with this book.

In the first volume of Yukito Kishiro's Battle Angel Alita, Daisuke Ido discovers a badly damaged cyborg in the trash heap beneath the floating city of Tiphares, which he rebuilds and names Alita. She has no memory of her previous life, but when she is drawn into a battle with the monster Makaku, Alita realizes that she must uncover the dark secrets of her past.
Kishiro's story is much more than a science-fiction adventure. Woven into the violent, roller-coaster plot is a strand of philosophical speculation. Battle Angel Alita takes us to a world where technology blurs the boundaries between human and machine, begging the question "What makes us who we are?"
Book Description
When Doc Ido, a talented cyberphysician, finds Alita's head in a junk heap, she has lost all memory of her past life. But when he reconstructs her, she discovers her body still instinctively remembers the Panzer Kunst, the most powerful cyborg fighting technique ever known. In the postapocalyptic world of the Scrapyard, as the secrets of Alita's past unfold, each day is a struggle for survival.

Graphic SF Reader.......2007-09-04
This seems to be a bit more along the lines of 2000AD or even Heavy Metal, as far as the style of story goes.
A scientist and mad mutant/robot bounty hunter finds a cyborg head, and decides to repair it by way of adding a new body a bit at a time.
Along the way they run into the scariest sewer and poo dwelling brain sucking mutant robot madman of them all, the one other hunters are too scared to face.
Add in a cute brave dog and you are set.
My first time.......2006-07-09
One of the fist mangas I ever read.
It's about a girl named Alita who is half robot and half human. Dr. Ido finds her in a scrapyard and fixes her up, she doesn't really remember anything about her past, and they both discover how strong she is. Many fights, great drawings
It's a great book, I am now on book 9.
Don't hesitate........2006-03-04
Someone might have told you that Battle Angel, despite its corny title, is one of greatest of modern mangas.
It is one of the greatest graphic novels, ever.
I've seen very few artists with so much raw skill put equal effort into a deep and complex story.
Start at 'Last Order' if you will, but you'll end up wanting more.
Battle Angel Alita rocks.......2006-01-30
Both the story and action in this manga are fantastic and at times touching. I read the whole series and loved every volume.
Moving.......2005-09-08
This manga was one of the few series that were able to cut to the core of me. The world our main character Gally lives in is a cold and dangerous place where anyone you care for could die at anytime. Fighting loneliness and fear she struggles to find meaning in her life. I think anybody that reads this book will understand what it feels to live in a bleak world full of terrible things that you just can't understand. We've all been there...where the world seems to loom over you and you just want to give up. Gally is an android but just as human as you and me. At times she wants to give up...but she will inspire her readers by getting up once again to face the dark world she lives in. The art is a bit grimy and messier than the newer mangas, but it fits the atmosphere of the story perfectly. You can even see it improving with each volume. This is the best manga I have read to date. And I highly recommend it to anyone that is willing to look at the world in a honest light.

More of the Good Stuff.......2006-03-23
Siegel and Shuster continued the hits and growth with Superman thorugh the early 1940s. In fact, Superman was such a hit that Shuster brought in some help with the art, including the brilliant Jack Burnley, among others.
Shuster also pulled back on the political aspects of the series. Superman was still an activist, helping out widows and orphans, but he was also developing quite the rogues gallery. Most important of these, introduced in Action Comics #23, is Luthor. Unlike the Lex Luthor we know and love, the original Luthor, while a brilliant criminal mind, was pretty physical. He also wore a shock of red hair. Superman battled other science fiction based villains, including Zoltar, who wielded radium weapons. As the war in Europe escalated, Superman faced new foes in the form of fifth columnists and spies.
Nothing like more of the good stuff from the golden age.
Superman: The Action Comics Archives vol. 2 is a classic!!!.......2001-10-02
Superman: The Action Comics Archives vol. 2 reprints the Superman stories from Action Comics #21 thru #36, classic stories from the early days of comic books' Golden Age. DC Comics continues their presentation of early comic book stories with their award-winning Archive Editions series.
Again, this is not the Superman of today. He truly was the Man of Tomorrow, with thrilling adventures of the early 1940s. Fun, simple stories from a different time.
To all Superman fans, and/or fans of early Golden Age comic book classics, get this book!!!

Too general to be of help.......2006-07-06
For me, this book was too general to be of any help.
The best I've read so far is FROM REEL TO DEAL.
great coverage.......2002-10-16
this book covers all topics of movie productions. a must have to serious filmmakers!
a filmmaker's Bible.......2002-08-02
I'll tell you right now, I haven't read many books on independent filmmaking. As a matter of fact... this is the only one. Yet I still found it very useful and jam-packed with information. Merritt tells it like it is (rather quickly, of course), and doesn't try to hide the fact that filmmaking is not all show and glory. If you're anywhere near interested in producing movies, check this book out. It tells you EVERYTHING you need to know about being a producer. And if you're actually getting into movie-making already, I'd take this along as kind of a "second Bible" as a reference guide. From initial casting to distribution, it covers every aspect of the film business. My only real complaint -- and I hope it doesn't come across as much of one -- is that Merritt doesn't go into detail about techniques. This is a book on HOW TO make a movie, not on WHAT makes a movie. Does that make sense?
Great Overview -- All Good Information, No Fluff.......2000-11-09
This is one of the best introductions I've ever read on making an independent feature film. It covers everything from writing the script to distribution in foreign markets and does so clearly, concisely, entertainingly and within 238 pages. As a film editor, I can say the chapter on editing basics is right on. The sections on money (both raising it and receiving it once your movie is distributed) are both eye-openers. It's a very realistic, honest source of information about making an independent feature.
As for criticism: Written in 1997, the book gives a pretty short shrift to DV, but it does admit that things will change. Also, it focuses primarily on features and not shorts. And at 230 pages, it's still just an introduction, but honestly, I can't think of a better introduction to give to a first time filmmaker -- who's either starting her first short or making that first feature.
Highest recommendation.
The Best How-To Book On Indie Film.......1999-11-24
After "The Blair Witch Project" and similar success stories, I was looking for a good general book on film production that included all the real dope on how the best known people have made successful low-budget movies. I was amazed by how much clear, precise info "Film Production: The Complete Uncensored Guide to Independent Filmmaking" has, such as precise budgets, deal-negotiating tips, crew member roles, distribution company reviews, and on and on. I also liked the way the book is organized. It takes you from the script and raising the money all the way through all the details of pre-production, production, and editing to selling the movie, promoting, and beyond. It answered all my questions (from stupid to tough) along the way.

Core curriculum for elementary music.......2006-01-29
I teach general music in a Marine Corps dependents' elementary school in Okinawa, Japan. I use this songbook and its companion, volume 2 constantly in my curriculum. I consider them to be at the core of my teaching. These are songs that every American should know. They are a part of our common history, our culture, our heritage.
These books were first suggested to me by a junior high choir teacher colleague who knew that I was interested in the Core Knowledge series by E.D. Hirsch. Thanks, Karen.
A must have for general music teachers!.......2001-12-18
This is the book that will sit on your piano and when teachers ask for the basic songs that we grew up with, here they all are.
It is a melody line and chord symbols, but that's enough!
No high tech, just music , and the kids like the songs and they are in easy keys.
I highly recommend this book! Great for the price.
There is an accompaniment book as well.

Customer Reviews:
Great book!! .......2007-02-10
Our management team is reading this book together and discussing it weekly and it has been invaluable. The book has a lot of very practical techniques and advice on how to dramatically improve and increase your business. I would recommend it to anyone in an organization regardless of wether or not they come into direct contact with customers. It is especially useful for salesman because it teaches them not just how to win a sale but to win repeat customers. What more could you want as a salesman?
Its all about the little things.......2006-08-10
I am surprised there are not more reviews of this book. It is a classic. Anyone who sells or owns a business or has a customer should read it.
The following is an excerpt from my blog on it. Just for background, I started my business from scratch years ago so had just me and my car and built it to hundreds of staff and now over $1 Billion in sales.
Awesome book. I need to figure out how to apply the lessons to a larger company. The lessons apply perfectly to a small company that sells to the public. Makes me think I should start a small business. The same principals apply to a larger company like SYNNEX. People often ask me what the secret to computer distribution is. The answer is summed up by a quote from the book :"everyone is trying to accomplish something big not realizing life is made up of the little things" (Quote by Frank Clark). Distribution is all about the little things.
Never Ending Learning.......2005-09-30
I was recommended this book with my recent promotion. I was not sure I would enjoy it but okay. I purchased one and before I got half way through with the book I was purchasing 15 more. For some co-workers and maybe some future co-workers.
Just when I thought I knew all I could possibly know about customer service; This book puts it all on a whole new level.
If you are in the restaurant business, purchase one now. After-all, all you have to gain is more happy customers.
The Greatest Customer Service Related Book...Ever.......2003-04-25
This is simply the greatest book ever on how to treat customers the way they should be treated, how to handle potential problems, and how to capitalize on it all. In the future, I will be sure to use the practical, no-nonsense advice given by Michael LeBoeuf. His business management and customer service related masterpieces should make up any part of a manager or sales analyst/manager's business bookshelf. His books are not only helpful to those with their own business or those involved with sales or managing a business, but are important for use in everyday life and how to treat people. The popular mantra associated with this book is simple, yet profound: "What gets rewarded, gets done".
Small Busines Owners Manual.......2002-02-18
This is an absolute must read for all small busines owners. I've had my own small manufacturing business for 19 years and I can assure you - THERE IS SO MUCH TRUTH IN THESE PAGES THAT YOU IGNORE IT AT YOUR OWN PERIL. Plus, Michael Leboeuf is a excellent writer. Buy it!
