Ziegfeld Girls.......2005-04-20
Although this book is titled "Ziegfeld Girls Paper Dolls", there is also a doll of the great Ziegfeld himself, even a wonderfully silly costume he wore to a ball which satrised his own musical revues. This is a very witty collection of paper dolls, with terrific portrayals of the most famous of Ziegfeld's female performers of the early twentieth century wearing some magnificent costumes. The highlights are depictions of Anna Held, Fanny Brice as Baby Snooks, Billie Burke and Clare Luce on an ostirich.

Of the many supremely talented artists SQP has had the pleasure to introduce in its thirty-plus years of publishing, few have garnered the attention and affection of one particularly amazing young woman - Arantza! Her work continually stands out in a field dominated by men as simply drop-dead exquisite! Her sense of design, composition, and attention to detail is remarkable. Arantza's ability to make her subjects, as varied as possessed demons, vampire queens, and savage warrior maidens all have a unique quality of fleshy realism. An Arantza illustration is something you can easily get lost in! Here is a woman who knows how to create feminine perfection! The Art of Arantza contains the very best of her portfolio, and showcases her visions of beauty, horror, and erotica!

Art of Arantza.......2007-07-04
The drawing is very good. The few men are definite body builder types. The women are drawn softer but still look strong. The poses indicate action, sometimes with mild threat, but no one looks really hostile. All drawings except the cover are in black an white, but it's still a great value. Arantza should sell a lot of art, whatever she decides to draw.
Well drawn, but not my thing.......2007-03-07
The subject matter isn't nearly as varied as the Amazon review suggests; the majority of it is vampires and vampire-related activities. It is very well drawn, though. Bottom line, I tore out 4 pictures that I thought were especially sexy or good for art reference and threw away the rest.
If you like vampires, this book is for you.
Fantastic!.......2006-03-07
The Art of Arantza is one of the best art books that I've ever bought. Every single piece in this book is just incredible. Arantza's technique is flawless and her mastery of the female figure is evident. Her realistic style brings and extra dimension to the fantastic subject matter, be it beautiful women, dragons, vampires or pirates. Many other artists in this genre are in the impression that drawing nude women will distract from the fact that they can't draw worth a damn and their work appears contrived and lifeless. Arantza is old school, her influences are not just from comic books or pin up art. Nor is she trying to imitate Frazetta as many others shamelessly do. She has her own style that reflects a deep understanding of form and composition. She really brings a touch of class to the field of female pin up art. Highly recommended!
A MESMERIZING TALENT!.......2005-07-20
The field of erotic fantasy art has been dominated by men ever since the pin-up days of the 40's & 50's. But in the Art of Arantza we are presented with a bold and fantastic female perspective from a rising star, Arantza. In this 64 page collection the brilliant Spanish artist shows off some of her most beautiful creations. While many female artists are content to illustrate serene pictures of angels or unicorns, Arantza proves she can produce not only eye-popping works of traditional fantasy art, but can also do so with an erotic slant.
What strikes me about the breath-taking women in this book is their natural look. So many male artists draw their women with exaggerated breasts but Arantza's women are natural and graceful in their beauty and in their poses. Natural...but no less fantastic! Inside this book you'll find a dazzling array of battle-ready warriors, Dragon-riders, sexy vampires, captive slave women, sorceresses, blood-spattered demons, and lusty pirates. Arantza uses light and shadow with remarkable skill and her work is amongst the most detailed I've ever seen.
It would be impossible to pick a favorite but some of the pieces that I love include:
A horned, female vampire, holding a chalice of blood, her head tilted back as if savoring the flavor as blood drips down her chin and neck.
Another female vamp, clothes in torn tatters, is chained to a wall, struggling to free herself from her bondage
A gorgeous beauty lies upon her bed asleep while a ravenous wolf prowls just outside the window with a bright quarter moon looming overhead.
A Mermaid rests languidly upon a rocky shore as a ship sails by in the background.
And lest you think her art is restricted to women, she provides several examples of wild-eyed, mighty barbarians that would make Frazetta stand up and take notice. This is not cheesecake art, however. These females are confident and commanding. While this book shows off her pencil drawings, Arantza works in oils, cartoon, animation, even children's illustration and is adept at all. This is a spectacular book by a great talent and highly recommended for fans of fantasy or erotic art.

Book Description
This wickedly funny parody of the self-help genre navigates the obstacles faced by Big Girls in a society that caters to females with toothpick arms and zero body fat. Women the world over who battle weight loss issues, hormonal fluctuations and social prejudice will laugh out loud at Bunkie Lynn's tongue-in-cheek "advice" and her sarcastic, often poignant tale of Life as a Big Girl With Attitude!
Customer Reviews:
Yes, it's meant to be satire, but. . ........2006-11-20
You don't self-deprecate yourself to a point that dispirits your target audience. Why? Because they'll start to walk away. I can't help but think this book makes you feel worse than what the roll-it-off-your-shoulders theme the authors intends. Since reading books from Wendy Shanker & McClure, "The Big Girls'Guide to Life" isn't funny anymore.
Big laughs.......2005-02-07
This book is a riot. I think the author still has issues though. Her fashion section is so outdated it goes back to the earlier 90's!
She adds the "fat is funny" to her style which is good, but still sterotypical. People laugh at fat people as it is. The good thing is it stays posative which is excellent. I'd give it a 5,but it's not 5 worthy.
GREAT Book!.......2004-11-02
I LOVED this book! I've lived a lot of it, and really connected with the author's stories! I think most women who have struggled with their weight are going to find snippets of their life in this book! Especially funny? The part about the 4 food groups, and the author's experience doing a half marathon as a big girl! I truly had tears rolling down my face (from laughter, of course!) reading these sections! Read it and see what you identify with!
You've got to be kidding!.......2004-10-20
I agree, and I disagree. I agree with Lynn's Big Girl Career Idols. What I DON'T agree with are her list of Fashion Must-Haves. Big Girl Big Shirt? Leggings? Linen Pantsuits? When have these looked good on ANYBODY? Linen wrinkles, for God's sake! Are we trying to hide our fat? It ain't gonna work. These items accentuate what we're trying to hide. I can't count the times that my boyfriend saw a girl walking down the street wearing spandex pants with a big shirt and said "What the HELL is she trying to do?" "Does she think that looks attractive?" i haven't even been through the whole book yet and I can already say that I'm not impressed. It's a ridiculous book....I wish I would have saved my money. You'd be better off reading "The Fat Girl's Guide to Life" by Wendy Shanker....it's much more realistic.
If you like to laugh.......2004-01-05
If you like to laugh, don't miss The Big Girls' Guide to Life. Bunkie Lynn tells it like it is for a lot of women as she covers such subjects as food and its procurement; exercise and its avoidance; clothes, makeup, hair and its removal; heaving yourself up the career ladder; and relationships and money. There's a lot of truth between the laughs, no matter what size you are!

Book Description
This book tackles fundamental questions such as: 'How should pawns be used to fight for the centre?' and 'How does the central pawn formation affect planning for both sides?' These issues are central to understanding chess. Marovic discusses central pawn-structures and their impact on play both in the centre and on the wings. He begins by surveying how the pawn's role in controlling the centre has been developed over the last 150 years, and how this has led to the refinement of concepts such as the 'dynamic' backward pawn and the positional exchange sacrifice. The bulk of the book is devoted to discussions of the main type of centre: Open Centre; Closed/Blocked Centre; Fixed Centre; and in particular the Mobile/Dynamic Centre.

Great sequel on pawn play.......2006-11-23
Like this author's "Understanding Pawn Play in Chess", this book is a great addition to the library of any serious player wanting to improve his or her game.
This book examines pawn structures in relation to the fight for the center. Again, the author uses complete games to help the student's understanding, and the same conversational tone of explanation that he used in his previous book.
After an historical survey, he covers the Open center, Closed center, Pawn Majorities and Minority attacks and the Dynamic center. There are many fascinating games in this volume. As a chess instructor, I have found this book very useful because of the clarity with which Marovic presents his material. It is like having a greatly expanded and better organized version of the essay "Various Pawn Positions in the Center" by Alexander Kotov (in the collection of papers titled "The Art of the Middlegame" by Kotov and Keres). Those, like myself, who loved the article by Kotov will be ecstatic over this volume.
One of the most difficult things in chess is to truly understand the role and power of the pawns. The books by Marovic will greatly aid that understanding.

Former U.S. Navy Commander Michael Abrashoff attracted worldwide media attention for his success in turning around a struggling ship, the USS Benfoldthe subject of his acclaimed bestseller, It's Your Ship. Since then, he's been a fixture on the business lecture circuit, spreading an empowering message that any organization can be turned around with compassionate but firm leadership. He is now nearly as popular a speaker as Rudy Giuliani, Jack Welch, or Jim Collins.
Abrashoff never claimed to have all the answers. He also knew that there were plenty of other creative leaders in the navy, army, air force, marine corps, and even the coast guard who could teach businesspeople how to motivate, inspire, and get great results under pressure. So he asked around, found some fascinating people in every branch of the U.S. military and the business world, and interviewed them about leadership and teambuilding. The result is Get Your Ship Togethera book that will be just as valuable as It's Your Ship.
For example, Abrashoff introduces us to a working-class enlisted man who rose rapidly in the navy for his creative leadership under fire; an army platoon leader who fought in Afghanistan; the first woman to fly an Apache helicopter in combat; a former commander of the air force's elite Blue Angels; and many other unsung heroes. Abrashoff distills their stories into fresh lessons that can be applied in the business world, such as:
Make a contract with your people and honor it
Develop your subordinates better so you can buy back a little quality of life
Conduct the battle on your terms, not those of your adversary

Get Your ShipTogether.......2007-05-20
Skip this book. With the exception of Ward Clapham's story the book is exceptionally boring. I think what I disliked most is the Authors (D. Michael Abrashoff) constant comparisons of the leader he was writing about and his time in the NAVY. I would just be getting a good picture of Leader he was describing and he would ruin the feel by adding another "this one time on BENFOLD" story. Mr. Abrashoff, you did well on BENFOLD but it's time to find a new hook to hang your cover on!
Get Your Ship Together: How Great Leaders Inspire Ownership from the Keel.......2007-03-13
Fantasic. The principals in this book should be followed by those who intend to lead or who are in leadership roles.
Getting It Together With Capt. Abrashoff.......2006-01-13
Since leaving the Navy, Mike Abrashoff has set sail on a second career that includes leadership consulting, speaking and writing - helping those in the world of commerce to navigate the tricky currents of competition, change, and corporate complacency. His latest book follows in the wake of his best seller that I reviewed yesterday, and chronicles heroes from business and the military as they demonstrate the practical wisdom of leading through building teams of committed employees. "Get Your Ship Together - How Great Leaders Inspire Ownership from the Keel Up," offers six portraits of leaders who "get everyone to buy into the cause and accept personal responsibility for the organization."
I found this book to be both inspiring and full of practical wisdom. The six leaders whose leadership stories Abrashoff shares are different enough in temperament, context and in the specific challenges they face that it becomes clear that the book's leadership principles truly are universal in their application.
· First Lieutenant Gabriel "Buddy" Gengler was faced with transforming a platoon of soldiers trained to launch rockets into a band of street-fighting urban guerillas.
· Trish Karter of Dancing Deer Bakery in Roxbury, MA had to find a recipe for building a team that shared her vision of delivering a balanced diet of world-class cakes and cookies, healthy profits and community involvement as the icing on the cake!
· Roger Valine is CEO of Vision Service Plan in Rancho Cordova, CA. Roger has been able to see his way clear to build an enterprise that has cornered the market on eye-care benefit plans while creating an atmosphere that focuses on giving his employees a healthy lifestyle balance between work and family.
· Al Collins rose from the backwater of Warner Robins, GA to sail the seas as Captain of the USS Fitzgerald. During his voyage to his role as a naval officer and inspiring leader, he learned to apply his mother's words of advice spoken as he prepared to leave the Deep South: "You'll never be a great leader until you're a great follower."
· Laura Folse leads a team of 700 scientists and engineers at BP - a rare female leader in the male dominated world of oil exploration. Laura has fueled her success at BP with an unshakable determination to use her staff as consultative partners who share accountability for the success of each project. Her approach has tapped a deep reservoir of trust and loyalty among her team members.
· Ward Clapham of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police has pioneered "smart policing" across Canada. In the course of learning to work alongside community leaders to refine police priorities and procedures, Mountie Ward was forced to mount several challenges against the entrenched bureaucracy of those above him in the RCP chain of command.
The overarching impression I have after having read and absorbed the stories of these six very different leaders is that great leadership can happen anywhere - in any setting, in any context, in any company - as long as the leader is willing to share the vision, the responsibility and the credit with her team.
I trust you will enjoy this book as much as I did. Anchors aweigh!

CDR Abrashoff misses the boat ..........2005-04-29
If you read Commander Abrashoff's first book, save yourself some time -- skip this one. My own experience as a Navy officer made the Commander's first book uniquely appealing. If I had served under a commanding officer like him, I would still be in uniform.
Instead showcasing new leaders and new ideas, every chapter of the sequel informs us how the subject of the story brilliantly implemented the Commander's ideas - and giving us a new story or two about HIS ship to prove it. Instead of a cast of inspiring lead characters, the "Great Leaders" of the title are reduced to minor supporting roles.
While his first book gave a memorable presentation of management and leadership ideas, he didn't invent them. I have read the same principles in various forms in dozens of other books and articles over the years. Commander Abrashoff missed an opportunity to make waves with these tales, instead sailing back through the same waters that he covered before.
Get Your Ship Together.......2005-03-26
Concept actualized! In this follow-up to It's Your Ship, Abrashoff tells of six leaders who embody the ideals of grassroots leadership. This book allowed me to see how the concepts described in the first book could prove invaluable to any setting - be it battleships or bakeries! Abrashoff also weaves in more personal experiences, rounding out what is a must read for any leader in today's business world! Since embracing Abrashoff's leadership techniques in my own business and passing out copies of his books to my employees, I have never seen so much productivity and PRIDE on a daily basis! I have empowered my team and challenged them to be their best. I never could have imagined how incredible their best would be. Abrashoff's ideas have permanently changed my view of leadership and infinitely improved my business!
