some info please..........2000-01-29
This isn't a review, but I wanted to say that you should really give the potential buyer some info about what it is they are thinking of purchasing. This book looks like what I want, but I know nothing about it, especially since there are no reviews. Please tell us something about what we're buying!

Book Description
Fabric of the 1970s was as distinct as the clothing into which it was made. Bold colors and patterns that dominated fabric design ranged from flamboyant to garish. Dizzying complementary color and pattern combinations, called psychedelic, were adapted from sources as diverse as non-Western folk art and Western technology. The fibers of the 1970s were made of materials in two general groups: the naturals and the synthetics. This book concentrates on the natural materials and presents a visual sampling of silk, cotton, flax, and wool. The prints include solids, stripes, plaids, geometrics, florals, paisleys, and much more to offer a pictorial reference for future designs while providing a visual record of the fashions and fabric trends that shaped the decade. This book is a delight for historians, designers, and all with an eye for fashion, fabrics, and fun. A glossary, index, bibliography, and informative captions included.

If its "bad as in naughty...IS THIS THE BEST IT CAN THINK OF!!.......2006-02-22
The Book Ain"t bad in a horrible way but this book doesn"t have the naughtyness like the AWESOME tv show. Big "Beefy" Book is more naughty. Why? A comic page shows you bart showing his butt. In Bart version 2.0,it has toilet humour and shows girls in beds and BIKKINIS!!!...So Big Beefy IS waaaaay better...
I agree with jong chung.......2005-04-04
Yeah, the early reviewer is a tool. I busted a gut laughing all thru this collection. I'm afraid the reviewer's comment about this material being aimed too low says more about him than about the material!
4 comics.......2005-01-03
There are only 4 comics in this book. There are usually 6 in the other comic books. The names of the comics are Bart Simpson Menace to Society, Bart Simpson High Flyer, Bart Simpson Boy of Mystery, and Bart Simpson Little Rascal.
mwreview trash.......2004-04-01

"Bad" is Right.......2003-07-15
Like the first "Big Book of Bart," this "bad" book is made up of many shorter comics; some as short as 4 pages. Also like the first book, these comics are a lot more childish than the other Simpsons Comics books. Many of the punch lines are more silly than funny. Highlights include Bart and Milhouse dressing up like Sonny and Cher to escape truant patrolman Leopold in "Bart Simpson's Day Off," and the comic "See You Later, Alligator" which has the Comic Book Guy offering $25 shopping sprees for the best science fair projects (this comic actually has a good ending). This book also includes shorts featuring a day in the life of Ralph Wiggum and baby Kang and Kodos. To sum it up, the funniest moment of this book is the look on Smithers' face in "See You Later, Alligator" when Mr. Burns demands him to "open that manhole for me."

Mistake buy.......2007-03-02
Amazon should be ashamed selling crappy paperback editions like this. The solution is to have a cool hardback of the best of Donald Duck like my best of Mickey Mouse work.
Book Description
Everyman Chess continues its original and best-selling Starting Out series with detailed coverage of the Queen’s Gambit Declined, an opening that is very much at the forefront of contemporary chess. The Queen’s Gambit Declined is Black’s fundamental answer to 1 d4 and an opening of great historical importance.
Customer Reviews:
Another masterpiece from Neil McDonald.......2007-02-17
There aren't that many books on the QGD -- Marovic and Polugayevsky are the only authors that come to mind off the top of my head, and they're both somewhat dated. So there's definitely a niche for a book on the subject. The book under review is a godsend for a 1.d4 player like myself who wants a clear explanation of ideas. For instance, in the classical set-up (...c6, ...Nbd7, ...Be7), what does one aim for in the tabiya position that arises after 12....e5?
The book, as the author makes clear, doesn't cover every main line: it restricts itself to the Tartakower, the Lasker, the Exchange, the Classical, the Cambridge Springs, and the Bf4 lines. The author explains the ideas in each of these lines using games from both past and present. Every class player who plays or encounters the QGD will benefit from this, and even experts may pick up a few things.
In my humble opinion, mastery of QGD and QGA postions is essential for every chessplayer, regardless of whether he plays them or not.To this extent, the book belongs on every player's shelf.
Book Description
The Queen¿s Gambit is one of the most popular and fundamental chess openings of all time and it has been the battleground for countless world-class encounters throughout the history of chess. Adherents include a long list of World champions, including Garry Kasparov, Anatoly Karpov, and Vladimir Kramnik. With his first two moves, Black creates a super-strong foothold in the center, one that is incredibly difficult to break down. In this book, John Shaw revisits the basic principles behind the Queen's Gambit and its many variations. Throughout this easy-to-read guide readers are aided by a wealth of notes, tips, and warnings from the author, while key strategies, ideas, and tactics for both sides are clearly illustrated. This book is ideal for the improving player.
*Written by a seasoned Queen¿s Gambit expert
*All the important lines are covered
*A back-to-basics look at one of the most important openings
Customer Reviews:
Not quite what you expect.......2007-07-29
This book deals with the various lines of the Queen's Gambit Declined (QGD), and covers all the major variations: the Tartakower, the exchange variation, the Slav and the Semi-Slav, the Tarrasch and the Queen's gambit accepted. The writing is clear and the presentation of the different lines is well organized. On the plus side, it needs to be acknowledged that it provides a neat and tight summary of an opening with an enormous ammount of theory behind it. However, as a fan of the QG, this book was a bit diappointing to me. In contrast with other volumes of the excellent "Starting Out" series, this book does not ever present the basic ideas behind each line. As such, it is deffinitely not useful for begginers, which is really a shame. Even intermediate players will probably have a hard time figuring out what the basic ideas behind each line are. And for advanced players, this book is probably too basic. Also, one can't help getting the impression that the book is written mostly from white's point of view. If you play the QGD with black, you'll probably be disappointed by this. Summarizing, this book unfortunately is not as good other opening books in the "Starting out" series, and will be useful for intermediate rather than beggining players.
Good overview, but more is necessary to play this opening.......2003-08-13
If you are interested in playing the queen's gambit, or in discovering how to play against it, then this general introduction book is right up your alley. It covers all the options for both white and black in a neutral way, meaning that good and bad moves for both sides are explored.
The only possible problem I can see with this book is, due to its scope, it can not pay too much attention to any one variation. So if you decide you like the Slav Defense, or the Cambridge Springs Variation, then you'll probably have to purchase another book to delve deeper into that particular variation. Why? Because you'll find at most 2-3 games covering each variation in the book, which is no where near enough to allow you to master the opening.
This isn't meant to be that much of a criticism of the book however. As the title suggests, this is a "starting out" book, designed to whet your appetite for a particular variation and allow you (with or without help from another book) to explore that variation.
So why only four stars when the book does all that it claims to do? Because the book probably should have been about 75-100 pages longer to really give a nice introduction to the openings covered. With all the openings covered, that would mean adding about 5-10 pages per section, which isn't too much to ask. The book feels rushed. However, it is still an excellent introduction to the queen's gambit and is usable by people playing from either side of the board.
No focus.......2003-08-13
I was looking forward to this book coming out as the other books in the series are great. However, this book covers too many openings and as a result lacks focus. Covered in this book is the Queens gambit declined and all resulting variations (orthodox, tartakower, cambridge springs, exchange, etc.), Tarasch defence, Queens Gambit Accepted, Slav and Semi-Slav. The end product provides little coverage of any lines in these families. This is unlike the other books in teh series (Caro-Kann and KID) which provide a great introduction to an opening system and provides a great starting point for an opening repetoire. The writing is good, but the book is not helpful. A better approach would have been a starting out book covering QGD or Slav individually.
Book Description
In God Wants You to Be Rich, bestselling author Paul Zane Pilzer provides an original, provocative view of how to accumulate wealth and why it is beneficial to all of humankind. A theology of economics, this book explores why God wants each of us to be rich in every way -- physically, emotionally, and financially -- and shows the way to prosperity, well-being, and peace of mind.
Customer Reviews:
Do you want to buy this book?.......2004-04-12
I haven't decided whether or not the title of this book is making it more saleable or not. I had a totally different idea about what this book would be about because of the title, and since I hadn't read anything else by Pilzer at the time, I was skeptical.
THIS BOOK IS PHENOMENALLY FASCINATING.
Again, the title is extremely misleading, and after asking the author about it, he said that his publisher gave it that title. Of course, the title of "Why economics are like they are" might be more appropriate, but it is in no way indicative of how PHENOMENALLY FASCINATING this book is.
I am EXTREMELY GRATEFUL that the title made me buy the book, and was happily deceived by it. One of my top favorites ever, and you'll note that I read ALOT. PLEASE read this book- it will make you INFINITELY more informed.
This is an MIND-OPENING book!!.......2003-12-21
This book is PHENOMENAL, and I'm no rookie when it comes to reading this type of material. You name the author, I've gotten at least a piece of him/her: Kiyosaki, Robbins, Hansen, Hill, Carnegie, Orman, Schwartz.
"God wants you to be rich" is PHENOMENAL, and I can't wait to track down everything else he's written. So far, the title has been completely misleading in that I was expecting something ENTIRELY different. Then again "economic theory and how it'll change" is hardly an interesting title.
Did I mention that this book is PHENOMENAL, and that it's REALLY PROPHETIC?? This is a pre-internet book, and yet it discusses how technology changes the world and the economy. No matter WHAT the title suggests, this book is NOT AT ALL what you'd expect. This book is entirely engaging; he writes with enough examples so you know EXACTLY what he means, and each one of them is FASCINATING.
PLEASE do yourself a favor and READ THIS BOOK- it'll COMPLETELY change the way you see the economic world- ESPECIALLY if you're completely UNINTERESTED in it!
Warmed over material and Misleading Title.......2003-02-26
I bought two of Paul's books on the strength of ... reviews and I have to say that both were hugely disappointing and a complete waste of money and time. This guy has a knack for recycling widely published material (I mean books, magazines, television, you name it) and packaging it in a way that is decidedly NOT entertaining or engaging. This book is not about how God wants you to be rich and there's nothing in here about how you can enjoy material and spiritual wealth. It's Paul's explaination of how technology drives growth in a free market economy along with copious supporting evidence, prescriptions for changes in government policy, etc. While I agree with much of what he says, its nothing new and, frankly, he doesn't write very well. Life is short: Don't waste it on bad books.
Mr. Theology, let me introduce you to Mr. Economics..........2002-09-05
After reading Paul Zane Pilzer's first book, "Unlimited Wealth", I was anxious to read this one. And since I'm a Christian, and the author is Jewish, he comes from the Old Testiment's perspective that during the time of Abraham, God promised him wealth. This well written book helps to explain the theology of economics in today's society. As also stated in "Unlimted Wealth", we have an endless supply of resources. And where one technology fades away, another one takes its place. Two good examples are how CD's have replaced vinyl records and how fuel injectors have mostly replaced carberators in automobiles. We are given the premise all things come from God, and we have at our disposal new technolgies which have the potential to increase our wealth and quality of life. There is a very extensive bibliography with excellent support for the arguments in this book. Finally, we now know that being rich isn't evil or a sin. In the final analysis, it's how we use our wealth that counts. For it is indeed the "love" of money that is the root of evil. An excellent book. I highly recommend it.
Excellent book.......2002-05-27
The amount of ignorance on this board is astounding. Why are they trying to say that Zilfer said that being poor was a sin? What page did they get that from? Maybe I don't understand English very well.
God did promise to bless Abraham, and the Bible teaches that we are children of the promise. We are to reap the blessings of Abraham in the natural and spiritual.
The bible also says that:
2 Corin 8
9For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich.
That doesn't mean just spiritually. It means naturally as well. I wish above all things that you may prosper, even as your soul prospers. Maybe somebody ommited that scripture from their Bible.
Y'all need to learn how to break free from that poverty demon who is preaching the poverty doctrine. Yes, the poor will always be with us. But we don't have to be poor -- unless we want to be.

God wants you VERY RICH.......2002-07-02
My Pastor taught me some things about tithing and offerings, but it is nothing close to the revelation I have seen in this book.
This book showed me why my tithings and offerings have not prospered me despite my zeal. I discovered the missing links in my spiritual financial planning. I think all pastors should get this book before they start preaching on God's prosperity. It is a teacher for teachers.
I give it 5 stars.
