1998!!!!!!!Times have changed. There are a gazellion new agencies out there and a plus size modeling boom and I'm sure this book does not reflect that.

I found many of the agencies listed were out of date. This book does not differentiate between the legitimate agencies and the bogus agencies & schools that are simply out to rip you off! There is no rating system on the agencies listed. Looking for an alternative.

This Book is great for anyone who is looking to break into a Modeling or Acting Career. It's Like a Yellow Pages and a who's who all rolled into one. I like it because it has everything a new Model or Actor needs.

So Very Funny. Humor with an Attitude to the Max.......2007-02-17
I have been a faithful FoxTrot reader for years. Roger, Andy and their kids Peter, Paige and Jason are always good for a reality check with a large dose of laughter. I've got two girls and let me tell you, I see a lot of my kids in Paige with, I believe, even a healthy dose of Jason thrown in. And they have Peter's bottomless stomach. Of course, they're faithful FoxTrot readers too. I used to read the strip to them, explain what was going on, but now they get it just fine and we three all laugh together. Then my girls try and explain the strip to their dad, who pretends he doesn't get it.
The FoxTrot folks are a great family, one we sort of got used to checking up on every day, so we took the news that Mr. Amend was going to cease daily distribution of his wonderfully funny people and turn his strip to Sunday only, with a bit of sadness. Still, we have these terrific FoxTrot books to keep us going with our FoxTrot fix. Mr. Amend is to be commended for his great gift to our culture and his great gift to so many lives. I truly believe a laugh a day, helps keep the blues away and the FoxTrot gang are always good for a laugh. Heck there are a lot of laughs in the FoxTrot books. I know, I have them all and I am, along with my girls and my hubby dear, eagerly awaiting the next one.
Oh yes, I forgot to mention, we don't have an iguana, but my girls do have a pet gecko and, you guessed it, his name is Quincy.

I've been a Foxtrot reader for a long time and personally I think there is something suspiciously wrong with people who don't find Bill Amend's characters funny as all get out. If you want a good laugh, check out Bill in your local newspaper, or better yet, get one of the Foxtrot books. They are all great, really, they are.
Like many of Mr. Amend's fans I'm a bit disappointed he's switching his strip to Sunday-only, but fortunately I can still read him daily in the Foxtrot books. Get them one and all and you can keep right on a laughing.
ANOTHER GREAT FOXTROT COLLECTION.......2005-01-08
It seems i am not alone in the opinion that when Bill Watterson ended his run on Calvin & Hobbes that Foxtrot became the defacto new favorite of many comic strip fans and with good reason. Bill Amend has the two qualities that make a great cartoonist: First, a comical yet adept cartooning style and second: a very witty sense of humor. The Fox Family consists of Mom Andy, Dad Roger, sons Peter and Jason, and Daughter Paige. This cast tackles the situations that all families do in funny and often eccentric ways led by the brainy and altogether greedy youngest son Jason.
Foxtrot consistently has some of the best Thanksgiving and Christmas strips every year and I always look forward to those. This is a strip that should be turned into a TV show! It's far superior to the lame "Family Guy".
POSSIBLY THE BEST COMIC STRIP SINCE CALVIN AND HOBBES.......2003-10-25
This strip is very, very funny. I agree with almost everyone about the strip on page 103 it's sooo funny, but you have to read it to find out what it's about. This comic strip has a perfect set of chaotic charachters, and it's definitely worth reading. I have already converted 3 people at my High School into Foxtrot fans because it's really funny. There are larger collections if you are just getting started reading foxtrot i'd recommend that but if you have the books, then this one's definitely worth buying too.

Dancing Naked in fuzzy red slippers is a literary mug of hot chocolate. It warms you with sweetness, page after page. The anecdotes, poetry and tales are full of motherly wisdom, sisterly chidings and the brutal honesty of an innocent child. I ordered 15 copies to send to my family....that's my brotherly attempt to open their eyes and to see them smile.

I simply loved the book! I really enjoyed the poems and stories and it made me think a lot about life and relationships in general. I think, everybody is able to relate to the content of this amazing book (and not only women). My favourite story is "The Trader", I had a laughing fit and nearly fell off the couch...
But every single poem or story here has its own charm and subtle nuances! I look forward to enjoying a second book from this sympathetic author!

So...I was browsing at a local shop, when my interest was peaked by the title of a book. As I leafed through the pages, I found myself relating to nearly everything I read - inhaling little treasures and laughing - I'm talking knee-slapping, outloud laughing! is the name of my new favorite book, by Carmen Richardson Rutlen. If you ask me, it is absolutely inspired! Not only did I finish the book in record time, but I was driven to contact Ms. Rutlen that night, to inquire how I might obtain copies for my Simply Smashing boutique customers. Long story short, Carmen personally delivered my books the very next day, hand autographed and with a red feather bookmarks - Voila! My experiences with Carmen have been just as real and wonderful as her stories - no wonder I love her book! Take my word for it, daaahling - this is a fabulous book by a fabulous woman! I received "Dancing ... Slippers" as a gift and found it's refreshing and raw views on the slices of life to be both fun and thought provoking. I've enjoyed reliving my own experiences through Ms. Rutlen's humorous and truthful perspective. It will be especially hard for me to shake her haunting passages in "Everyone".
Her photo on the back inside flap is absolutely charming!
I've recently purchased this book as gifts for 2 more friends.

Not A Very Good Tribute...........2002-08-30
Reading the editorial reviews above for this particular book, I was under the assumption that this book would give a critical and written overview of the Japanese "Pink" Sex Film Dramas (aka RomanPorn). I was especially wanting to get some background information on some of the key studios (such as Nikkatsu, Toei) which produced these films in the 70's as well as a index to all the major starletts. Much to my disappointment the book only had a very short (one page) introduction and a even shorter summary (two pages) detailing the Japanese Pink Film Industry of the 70's and early 80's. The rest of the book was primarily comprised of black & white stills and photos of the various Japanese Pink Film stars (and not very clear or good ones I might add). In yet another miscalculation, the book's editors even failed to mention who is being pictured and from what film the particular still was taken from (although I think it might have been in the acknowledgement sections). Definitely not for those wanting to "read" about the Japanese RomanPorn films of the 70's. From even the basest erotic level, this book fails.

Farewell Great Knight. .......2005-09-22
Yes, I suppose the title may be a bit confusing here. First of all, let me clarify that this is not a "how to" book. It is a work celebrating the game of poker which places it skillfully within our cultural milieu. It is more a cultural history than a manual for novices. However, I believe that it should have value for all as there are a great many technical works but precious few David Spaniers. Indeed, unfortunately, Mr. Spanier has passed away. The reader will lament this fact shortly after he begins because the author strikes one as being good solid company. Many poker writers are players first, and writers... barely at all. That certainly is not the case with this narrator. His prose is strong and he paints a beautiful, impressionist picture of poker that you'll long remember. He approaches his subject with great enthusiasm and examines it from many angles. A fine essay about poker and film is included; wherein, he illustrates aptly that The Hustler, although it was not even about cards, is the greatest poker movie ever. A case study of former World Series of Poker champion, Puggy Pearson, reveals the ways of the professional. While cheating, along with a detailed description of "Loss" Vegas, are among the clever subjects addressed within. One of the best things about reading Total Poker, if you ask me, was getting to know David Spanier. He's an Englishman of the old school who would not readily find a home in "Cool Brittania." He was born and lived, for the most part, many miles away (and above) political correctness. Instead of making excuses for the "maleness" that is the game, he glorifies it. David Spanier, you sir, are missed.

Spanier analyses the game not from a technical angle, but rather using a more complete view which includes the psychological aspect. He looks at a variety of games in a refreshing way, and makes the book readable even to those insufficiently talented to be able to play.

Confessions of an advertising man contains advertising principles David Ogilvy has derived based on his experience and available research. In this book he shares what he has learned to be the optimal practices both for advertising agencies and for clients of advertising agencies. While some of these principles and practices may be considered timeless, others have changed under the influence of new advertising media and technologies. One standard timeless practice in advertising is to test everything and to choose the most appropriate action based on research. David emphasizes that the bottom line of advertising is sales, rather than the entertainment value of an ad, and that in the end numbers demonstrate the effectiveness of the ad.
Invaluable advice.......2007-04-15
This book is similar in content to Ogilvy's other masterpiece, "Ogilvy on Advertising", but with more emphasis on the sales aspects of the advertising business. "Confessions" is also more autobiographical. Ogilvy's stories about his background, building his agency, and dealing with clients are fascinating.
Given Ogilvy's talent as a copywriter, the book is obviously a pleasure to read. For example--
"How do you decide what kind of image to build? There is no short answer: Research cannot help you much here. You have to actually got to use judgment. (I notice increasing reluctance on the part of marketing executives to use judgment; they are coming to rely too much on research, and they use it as a drunkard uses a lamp post, for support rather than for illumination.)"
Anyone engaged in any aspect of advertising, marketing, or top level management should get plenty out of this book. It's a how-to manual for total success.
A guide to success in advertising.......2006-09-10
Dubbed "the King of advertising" by Advertising Age, David Ogilvy shared his thoughts and stories on being successful in the adverting industry in this book. His ideas are often overflowing with self-confidence, but for a man who reached his level of success, he's definitely earned the right.
Originally published in 1963, in part as promotion of himself and his agency, this book is broken down into ten "How to" chapters plus an opening and closing commentary on the state of advertising. No example ads or illustrations in this book, just straightforward advice and colorful anecdotes on topics ranging from managing an agency to writing potent copy.
The stories are enjoyable, and Ogilvy's advice is enlightening. David Ogilvy led an amazing life, and his insights on advertising, business and human behavior are timeless. Overall, this is an inspiring book that I recommend to anyone involved in advertising.
