Book Description
Decoys and Disruptions is the first comprehensive collection of writings by American artist and critic Martha Rosler. Best known for her videos and photography, Rosler has also been an original and influential cultural critic and theorist for over twenty-five years. The writings collected here address such key topics as documentary photography, feminist art, video, government patronage of the arts, censorship, and the future of digitally based photographic media. Taken together, these thirteen essays not only show Rosler's importance as a critic but also offer an essential resource for readers interested in the issues confronting contemporary art. The essays in this collection illustrate Rosler's ongoing investigation into means of exposing truth and provoking change, providing a retrospective of characteristic issues in her work.
Mixing analysis and wit, Rosler challenges many of the fundamental precepts of contemporary art practice. Her influential essay "In, around, and afterthoughts: on documentary photography" almost single-handedly dismantled the myth of liberal documentary photography when it appeared. Many of the essays in this volume have had a similarly wide-ranging influence; others are published here for the first time. Illustrating the essays are 81 images by Rosler and other artists and photographers.

Book Description
From aesthetic subtleties to the slapstick, the heart and soul of manga lies in unique character representation through physiques and expressions. Tadashi Ozawa, the author of the best-selling How to Draw Anime & Game Characters series kicks off instruction with the basics and intricacies of properly proportioned and stylistically deformed characters. Ozawa then focuses on the creation of an entire range of facial expressions, from a slightly lifted eyebrow of doubt to a river of tears, exploring both the nuance and comedy exclusive to manga.

Eh....It's Okay.......2007-08-28
When I bought this book I was expecting to see an explanation on how to create different emotions and body frames. Well...not exactly. The emotion information they shared wasn't really helpful. Just showed a bunch of odd faces.
As for the body. It had many different poses to put a "female" character in that I have to admit were really cute. But it would've been nice to get a detailed explanation how to get all the different positions. They didn't have any on males, but they did draw out the different sizes of a male's body. Not really helpful.
Then they gave a little info on the hands and feet and the other pasrts of the body and yeah. That was pretty much it. They did have a few pictures of different kind of men and women in the back. But it really wasn't helpful.
But hey, if you're wondering about doing different poses for your character. This is the book for you. They have different pages of positions for miles.
A good and bad body start!!!.......2006-10-16
This book is pretty good, except it as a huge part on girls but barely anything about boys. Don't get me wrong the girl part shows a lot of different poses and there really good. Its just if your looking only for boys you shouldnt by this book.
Liked it, Loved it!.......2006-08-20
I really liked this book a lot, the majority of this book is how to draw TONS of different poses! i didn't even think about drawing some poses that i do in everyday life. And she shows the difference between the anatomy of a human body, and the manga body! which i thought was a total plus! One of the only things i was dissapointed with was the facial expressions, it didn't show how to draw them at all, and thats what i really struggle with! It's a great book for learning all about different poses, anatomy and posture, but not a great book for expressions.
This is *not* a collection of facial expressions.......2006-01-31
This was my first purchase outside of the official How To Draw Manga collection, and I chose this book because of the promise of emotions and facial expressions. But despite the official description and even the text on the book cover, this book did not live up to that implied promise.
This book focuses heavily on how to draw bodies, and the advice it gives is sound and helpful. The tone of the text is occasionally arrogant but generally constructive. But almost all of the "emotion" shown in the book is through body language and posture; indeed, half the drawings don't have faces at all.
If you're looking for simple anatomy lessons or an assortment of poses, this book could be helpful. But if you're looking for a reference for facial expressions, this is not suitable; you would find more facial expressions by picking a random book from the How To Draw Manga series.
Book Description
A book for everyone who's ever cheated just a little bit at golf (I'm only moving the ball to where it should have landed) or gone to a party instead of visiting a sick friend (If I were in the hospital, I wouldn't want a bunch of people bothering me), Rationalizations to Live By offers dozens of perfect rationalizations for behavior that ranges from the selfish, thoughtless, and irresponsible to the boorish, self-destructive, and un-p.c. A group effort by four of the funniest people writing books today, it evokes both nervous laughter (for what we recognize in ourselves) and happy superiority (because we can't believe anyone could do that). For example:
Look how long the French live.
All of this shopping is good for the economy.
This doesn't really count as sex.
I'm earning frequent-flyer miles.
Video games are good for my kid's motor skills.
Picasso didn't do his best work until he was 70.
He'll just spend it on liquor.
I only smoke at parties.
And, of course, the universal: Everybody does it.
Customer Reviews:
Many of the common "lies" we say to ourselves.......2006-08-01
On the first page, you learn that "An excuse is a lie we tell others" and "A rationalization is a lie we tell ourselves." That sets the stage for the purpose of this book, namely a sequence of statements that we tell ourselves when something goes wrong. Examples include"
*) It's for a good cause.
*) My kid is too creative for this school.
*) I'm not trying to win a popularity contest.
*) I'm not as fat as the other people.
*) I'm big boned.
My favorite is "I'm fertilizing these bushes."
These examples give you a taste of what you will find in this book. I doubt if any will cause you to laugh out loud, but they are very amusing. They are also examples of the many ways we lie to ourselves as we try to get through our days.
My Phlegm.......2002-01-06
I didn't read it, but if i did, i bet i would have liked it
I'm Only Human.......2000-05-28
This is one of those exceptional books, universal in scope, that already existed as a Platonic ideal but no one had yet written. Everyone has served up to himself or herself at least one of the rationalizations listed here ("What are the odds of a handicapped person needing this spot while I drop off my video?"). Always a good idea to have a reference volume like this handy--you never know when you'll need more. Very funny and sharp. And the drawings by Roz Chast are a perfect counterpoint to the prose. A perfect gift for every man, woman, and child on the planet. If I tried to improve this review it would just sound less spontaneous and sincere.
Spot on!.......2000-05-04
Truly an entertaining bit of ephemera. This little book immortalizes while skewering all those rationalizations that we all try to fall back on - like Jeff Goldblum's character says in "The Big Chill," (sorry, a paraphrase only) "Rationalizations are wonderful. I can't get through a day without three or four." And truly a fun gift !
Product Description
Excuses are lies we tell others. Rationalizations are lies we tell ourselves. And inside this little book, you'll find handy rationalizations for every occasion. Once you get started, you'll find it real easy to invent your own.

Perfect For Paddy's Day Pub Gigs.......2005-12-06
Nearly 10 years ago a club that I frequently played asked me to play for St. Patrick's day. I said I would. Then they asked if I could sing some traditional Irish songs. I said I would. I went out in search of an Irish song book, and could only find this. I'm not sure that it was meant for a guitar player, but I made it work. I've loved it ever since. If you are just starting out on the guitar you'll need a separate chord book, because this does not give diagrams. It only offers chord names above the lyrics. For other instruments, this is only written in the treble clef and only offers melodies. Aside from having some great songs, the lyrics are hilarious to read.

Guerrilla Marketing For Mortgage Brokers: You get what you put into it........2007-09-27
I came across this book in researching mortgage marketing strategies. Although I have implemented various practices from other books and magazines in my mortgage marketing strategy, this book offers a good amount of insight and value to any mortgage marketing strategy. The suggested marketing practices aren't worth anything unless you implement and monitor them. The author consults on mid-to-long term marketing strategies to generate consistent business, which can strengthen and widen your mortgage lead and referral foundation. This book is worth the purchase and should be utilized as a valued reference.
Only for Dumb Monkeys.......2006-05-05
Being a Mortgage Broker, when I saw the title I thought it would be a good book for my industry - wrong! This is the second Guerilla series book I have purchased and I have been disappointed with both. The title mentioned more about the business of Mortgage Brokers than the text of the book. The author put a few Mortgage Buzz words in the text but it had no real meat for the Mortgage business or any business. If someone finds this book a good buy then they should not be in business for themselves since the content is just simple common sense. Also, the big turn off was when the author compared Marketing to 'Good Sex.' That statement alone shows he has no class! Instead of putting the book on my bookshelf, I put it where it belongs - the trash!
Horrid.......2006-04-10
If you are looking for ideas on how to increase your mortgage sales, look somewhere other than this book! You can ask your fifth grader for the same info.
A complete ripoff!! WHAT A CON..........2005-12-03
Feel its my duty to write a negative review on this book. There is NO mortgage broker specific mention of any kind. It is a VERY VERY basic "general marketing" guide. I feel I wasted my time and money and has given me NO knowledge on marketing my mortgage business. DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK!! SEEK ELSEWHERE!!
Short on strategy, long on platitudes.......2005-09-28
This book was a disappointment. It was full of platitudes and emotional and attitudinal characteristics recommended for mortgage brokers. But it had no real techniques, no strategy. It advocated a shotgun approach to marketing; do everything, signs, websites, telemarketing, advertising, etc. Save your money.
