Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

    Book Description

The Bauhaus and its influences are to be found throughout Twentieth-Century art and design; the architecture of Walter Gropius and Mies van der Rohe, and the art of Paul Klee and Wassily Kandinsky being among the most widely recognized instances. Perhaps the most poignant example of this influence, however, may be understood through the life of a little-known student of the Bauhaus who entered its first class in 1919-Friedl Dicker, whom Gropius described as "a distinguished, rare talent...The multidimensional nature of her talent and her indomitable energy received the highest esteem..."

Friedl Dicker was a prolific and multi-talented artist, producing work in theatre, architecture, textiles, graphic design, drawing, painting and sculpture; in 1926, in Vienna, she founded Atelier Singer-Dicker with a classmate Franz Singer. In 1934 she was arrested by the Gestapo for anti-Fascist activities and fled to Prague, where she taught art classes for Jewish refugees. In 1942, she was sent to the Theresienstadt Ghetto in 1942, where she secretly taught art to the children there, gifting them with the tools for the expression of their fears of the hunger, disease and death in their midst. Dicker-Brandeis (she had married in 1936) and thirty of her students perished in the gas chambers of Auschwitz in 1944. Art, Music and Education as Strategies for Survival collects for the first time in one volume the children's art of Theresienstadt, unpublished work of Friedl Dicker-Brandeis, and historical photographs, as well as numerous essays of interest to historians, art educators/ therapists, and Holocaust scholars-providing an important new interdisciplinary approach to exploring the power of art to teach, express, commemorate, and-perhaps, most importantly-heal. Art, Music and Education as Strategies for Survival is published in cooperation with the Payne Gallery of Moravian College, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

    Book Description

Since the advent of cinema, visual art has tended to be perceived as if it were in motion. Artists now create less often in fresco or carved stone and more on film and tape, on the dance stage, or in the ever changing, ever moving medium of clothes. In this remarkable collection, Anne Hollander ranges over art of the twentieth and other centuries with unusual depth of historical insight to explore these rich, diverse visual treasures and the underlying themes that connect them.

This woman knows how to write a book review! Most book reviews are rehashes of the book itself--a book report not a book review. Ann Hollander possesses a dazzling storehouse of knowledge about visual art and is able to bring far ranging comparisons to her reviews. Her style is a bit dry but always smooth and even both in praise and reproof. Her references and in-depth knowledge of her subjects caused me to purchase three more more books. Feeding the Eye is not always scintillating reading but is a book that need not be read all at once. Hollander's historical perception of dance, fashion, music and art makes one thirst for more from her. She is a woman that is well versed on many subjects. 4 out of 5 stars The Art of Seeing.......2000-01-05

The art of seeing and the persistent human need for visual stimulation are the subjects of this group of book reviews and essays. Collections of articles are sometimes difficult to read straight through. These, however, are unified by Hollander's conviction that dance, film and fashion are the most distinctive art forms of the 20th century. Anyone interested in those subjects will find this book ideal. Again and again I found myself eager to explore the books that the author was discussing. As a book about books, this volume is a great success. A critic who can discuss art, fashion, film, dance and literature and offer creative comparisons betweem them is a national treasure in an age when most writers can only cover their own restricted turf.

      Book Description

It's different "over there." Everybody east of Washington, Oregon, and California knows it. But defining the West Coast as "not like the East Coast" leaves way too much of the story untold. No, far better to turn to Adrian Raeside's This Is Your First Rock Garden, Isn't It?, perhaps one of the most informative-and certainly funniest-explanations to ever depict the westernmost portion of our country.

Raeside represents the perfect comic commentator on what makes "Other Coasters" tick. He was born a Kiwi, lived in England, and now resides in British Columbia-close enough for a good view without having to get mixed up in the muddle that passes for the West Coast lifestyle and its many subcultures. Instead, the cartoonist accurately sheds light and humor on residents who put their own unique spin on everything from cars and coffee to extreme sports and the latest out-there technology.

This Is Your First Rock Garden, Isn't it?, Raeside's second Other Coast collection, captures all the quirks and comical traits that give these occasionally odd occupants their confidence, panache, and ability to ignore the rest of the country. Eccentric, fashionable, political, hysterical-This Is Your First Rock Garden, Isn't It? has it all.

      Book Description

For 26 years, Dr. David Perrin served as a country veterinarian in the rural (but never quiet) Creston valley of southern British Columbia. Don't Turn Your Back in the Barn is his engaging and entertaining firsthand account of his rookie year on the job in the early 1970s. Reminiscent of the beloved books of British veterinarian and writer James Herriot, Perrin's book is by turns heartbreaking and hysterical. In 22 stories, he relays his encounters with an eclectic group of two-legged clients and a roster of four-legged patients that range in size from a newborn kitten to a 1,500-pound pregnant heifer. Perrin's honest account of veterinary life includes his mistakes, successes, and frequent searches for answers to problems that most of us will thankfully never have to consider (for example, how does one discourage the advances of an amorous billy goat?). Passion, pathos, adventure, humor-Don't Turn Your Back in the Barn has it all.

      4 out of 5 stars a quick, entertaining read.......2005-05-24

I can definately recommend this book, maybe not worth the cover price, but good if 2nd hand or from the library. Dr. Perrin's stories are funny, if you like Herriot, you will like this. However, I only gave it 4 stars because Perrin, while adequate, is not the most talented writer, and I found that the print in the book is very large and misrepresents how much text there actually is. I read through the book very quickly, I was hoping he would have packed more into the book. But still, it's a good read and has some good stories in it.

4 out of 5 stars Hilarious and a must read for any animal lover!!!!!.......2004-06-08

These books take you through hilarious and moving stories, real life stories of new veterinary in a little town. It inspires you to reach for your goals and never take no for an answer, great for inspiring vets or any animal lover!

3 out of 5 stars Interesting but wooden writing.......2004-01-02

This book is fascinating--stories from a rural vet in Canada, treating everything from cats to cows. The sad part is that Perrin isn't a very fluid writer, so it is sometimes a chore to get through.

I had the sense that if Perrin had just dictated these stories and had worked with a good editor, it would have been a much better book.

5 out of 5 stars Delivers as Promised.......2004-10-04

Fifteen years ago, I heard a friend play a song from this book. "Moaning," I think it was. "Whoa," I said, "you gotta teach me that!" He handed me this book, and ten minutes later I was playing it. That's no reflection on me because (trust me) I was and still am a mediocre piano player. My favorite is the last song in the book, "Worried Man Blues." Took me a while to get it down, but it's beautiful. If you're a real musician, this book probably won't do the job. But if you're an amateur like me, if you can read music, count time, and play a bit more than chords with your left hand, then you'll be able to play the songs in this book. I wish my piano teacher had given me this book. I might have practiced.

I am a stay-at-home American mom in Germany and taking care of an active 8 month old is hard sometimes. This book SAVED me. My son, starting at 5 months, would sit still and let me read this book to him over and over. Family couldn't believe how interested he was in this book. On our long flights overseas-this book was read several times. He anticipates the next page and laughs at the story. THANKS for such a great book.

My sons (1 and 3) recently started enjoying "Bear in the Big Blue House" on the Disney Channel and I scoured the computer catalog at the library looking for all the videos and books. This is the only book they have and we love it! It's very fascinating, with lots of things for them to comment on. We've read it again and again and now we'll be buying our own copy from Amazon. It is sure to get lots of readings!

Few people know more about finding the right job than Jeff Taylor, founder of Monster, the world's leading career Web site. Taylor leaves no contact unused in this comprehensive guide, discussing every step of finding a new job, from writing a winning resume to avoiding mistakes during salary negotiations to building a productive network. In addition to his experience, he presents advice from recruiters, human resource professionals and Monster employees. So if he directs you to Monster's Web site a little too insistently, you can forgive him, because his book is so well written, easy to read and full of good advice. It includes a good resource list of books, Web sites and services, as well as useful exercises. We recommend this 400-page monster especially to first-time job seekers, although experienced employees seeking more money, prestige or career satisfaction may also find its tips helpful.

                            5 out of 5 stars Highly Recommended.......2006-09-30

I highly recommend this book for anyone in a job search. The exercises in part 2 "Preparing Your Search" have given me so much more confidence by helping me understand my own accommplishments and value to employers.

It's a little annoying that the book refers to worksheets online that don't appear to actually be available.

Strongly recommended. I have purchased three career search books and this one is the definite leader. Very clear, systematic, has a large number of examples. The book has a series of exercises and leads you through a training program not only to write a focused resume, but to change your thinking and preparation. It illustrates great professional selling techniques to help you represent yourself better.

Sorry for the previous rating ... I though it was for the seller ... It's a great book, good for starters, but even for me that I've been in the industry for long time has some really good explanations of things.
