Book Description
When he stands before Giorgione's La Tempesta, John Berger sees not only the painting but our whole notion of time, sweeping us away from a lost Eden. A photograph of a gravely joyful crowd gathered on a Prague street in November 1989 provokes reflection on the meaning of democracy and the reunion of a people with long-banished hopes and dreams.
With the luminous essays in Keeping a Rendezvous, we are given to see the world as Berger sees it -- to explore themes suggested by the work of Jackson Pollock or J. M. W. Turner, to contemplate the wonder of Paris. Rendezvous are manifold: between critic and art, artist and subject, subject and the unknown. But most significant are the rendezvous between author and reader, as we discover our perceptions informed by John Berger's eloquence and courageous moral imagination.

TWINED KNITTING.......2006-01-20
An outdated book of a knitting technique that was used in Northern areas of the world. Pretty but useless. Very difficult to follow also.
Not only socks and mittens, but great for re-enactment.......2006-01-03
This book is rather hard to find, and covers the Swedish folkcraft method of two-end knitting. The patterns are created by making raised stitches with one end of yarn while knitting with the other. There are many pictures of antique knits (helpful for re-enactors) and info on fringing and embroidery. A must-have reference for folk knitters or for anyone interested in reproducting old-style stockings, hats and vest. Versatile book.

More Grins than You Can Shake a Stick at.......2007-02-17
I have been a faithful FoxTrot reader for years. Roger, Andy and their kids Peter, Paige and Jason are always good for a reality check with a large dose of laughter. I've got two girls and let me tell you, I see a lot of my kids in Paige with, I believe, even a healthy dose of Jason thrown in. And they have Peter's bottomless stomach. Of course, they're faithful FoxTrot readers too. I used to read the strip to them, explain what was going on, but now they get it just fine and we three all laugh together. Then my girls try and explain the strip to their dad, who pretends he doesn't get it.
The FoxTrot folks are a great family, one we sort of got used to checking up on every day, so we took the news that Mr. Amend was going to cease daily distribution of his wonderfully funny people and turn his strip to Sunday only, with a bit of sadness. Still, we have these terrific FoxTrot books to keep us going with our FoxTrot fix. Mr. Amend is to be commended for his great gift to our culture and his great gift to so many lives. I truly believe a laugh a day, helps keep the blues away and the FoxTrot gang are always good for a laugh. Heck there are a lot of laughs in the FoxTrot books. I know, I have them all and I am, along with my girls and my hubby dear, eagerly awaiting the next one.
Oh yes, I forgot to mention, we don't have an iguana, but my girls do have a pet gecko and, you guessed it, his name is Quincy.
Come Closer, Roger, There's a Mosquito on Your Nose. Foxtrot, All Great!.......2007-01-20
I've been a Foxtrot reader for a long time and personally I think there is something suspiciously wrong with people who don't find Bill Amend's characters funny as all get out. If you want a good laugh, check out Bill in your local newspaper, or better yet, get one of the Foxtrot books. They are all great, really, they are.
Like many of Mr. Amend's fans I'm a bit disappointed he's switching his strip to Sunday-only, but fortunately I can still read him daily in the Foxtrot books. Get them one and all and you can keep right on a laughing.
A nice family trip to the desert!.......2002-09-19
This is one great Foxtrot book. The arc about the desert trip is hilarious and it is well worth the invetiment on the future laughs when rereading this.
Hilarious---and almost eeire for myself!.......2000-09-27
This book is just great! I love the FoxTrot comic strip and wish my paper would carry it. Every single strip is great. I say FoxTrot is almost eeire for myself, 'cause I just see SO MUCH of myself in Jason---Star Wars nut, Star Trek fan, and lover of dinosaurs and the Lockheed F-117A Stealth Fighter. I think the Fox family's trip to Skeeter Falls is my favorite series of strips in this book. I highly recommend it!
FoxTrot #11.......2000-02-21
Bill Amend is back! The Fox family has a ton more fun and you will too! You'll laugh till your head falls off!

Dinero tirado.......2007-05-25
Bueno a secas.......2006-11-15

Book Description
Q: What are your most hated films?
A: I've walked out of so many I can't even tell you. And I'd probably walk out of many of my own.
The lucky students who get into film school (and then get through it without dropping out) have to compete for a small number of prestigious jobs once they graduate. Despite the enormous odds stacked against them, most students leave film school still hoping to become the next Spielberg or Scorsese. The mismatch between their dreams and the reality of working in the industry itself is considerable.
"Is There Life After Film School?" shows that there are more options available to students than they might think. Through a series of in-depth, candid, and entertaining interviews with film industry insiders, the book reveals a range of career paths taken by scriptwriters, production designers, producers, and marketers. All of the interviewees share with the reader the specific qualities and crucial insider information that distinguish successful film graduates from the rest of the pack. The resulting book is inspiring and realistic in equal measures: and for those who really want to make it in the film industry (whether in Hollywood, Europe or elsewhere), it's an invaluable source of information and ideas.

Telling It like It Is........2003-12-06
Ok, to be honest, I groaned when I learned that I had to read this book for my screenwriting class Julie teaches. Great, just what I needed, a teacher who wrote her own book. Much to my surprise, this book tells you some great insight on the film industry. As a film student, you don't realize the dirty side that's in the business; you only think of the glory. The book interviews real industry people -producers, screenwriters, production designer. If you are interested in something other than directing, this book tells you some accounts of people that can help you from making their mistakes. I highly recommend this book, along with this teacher who teaches at Chapman University. (No, I SWEAR I was not paid to say this. I honestly learned a lot in this class.)
Hit it right on the button!.......2003-08-29
I'm a film student who has been out there paying my dues and this book tells you about it before you get there. If I could have read this book before I had gone out, I would be in a better position to make smarter decisions than learning the hard way. I recommend reading this book because learning the hard way isn't always the best way. This book will save you time, energy and stress that you can save toward doing the actual work instead of getting yourself in trouble. The interview style and prose made it more intimate and engaging. It was like I got to meet these people in person. Reading is fundamental and I believe reading this book is fundamental to a film career.
If you need to spend [$] for some hope, you already lost........2003-07-11
There is not a lot of depth in the in-depth interviews. Everyone especially wants to share how to write a script, but that is what we just went to film school for four years to learn isn't it? We don't need that, we need to learn how to get a job, what the different jobs really are and what they are advertised to be and what the pitfalls are. To do that we need canded advice and I think that anonymous interviews would have been better since that would have given some of the hard truths that film school and Hollywood staffers can't share truthfully or people up the food chain make grudges for exposing them. I agree with the pictures, they are so self-imporant it is funny. But overall I just don't think this book is as advertised. It's not really going to help anyone just out of film school unless you can flatter one of the people interviewed in the book. It's not bad, just not really what it thinks it is. It's like "People" Magazine.
There are no black and white answers!.......2003-06-29
The author has compiled a diverse bunch of interviews that don't try to do anything more that speak honestly about who these people are and the experiences they've had since film school. Some good, some bad, some indifferent. I think the previous reviewer was probably tripped up by the sub heading "in depth advice" which probably should have said "personal stories". That said, to give this book one star was ludicrous and the reviewer should stick to reading Script magazine if he only wants the stories of people who've made it huge. There are no secrets to success and, all in all, I found the book to be a healthy dose of reality. It showed me that a career in the business (i.e. earning a living) does not require becoming an overnight sensation.
Fabulous!!!!.......2003-06-29
It's truthful, direct & I have found it to be extremely accurate in all the details plus a pleasurable read! The range of interviewees, from industry veterans to people who've just graduated and are carving their own careers is inspiring and gives me hope that I too, can make it. Those of us born without the advantage of close relatives already in the business need books like this.

Customer Reviews:
Great photos highlight excellent craft.......2005-12-21
Another must have for fans of Krenov. There's little instruction here (see his other books) but tons of great photos of gorgeous furniture. The Krenovian philosophy of craft is obvious with its focus on handwork and natural materials and there is a good bit of repetition in reference to his other books and publications. If Krenov's furniture appeals to you this book will be a delight.
Great examples of wonderful work.......2004-05-31
let me first say that readers of the first three krenov books should NOT expect this book to be the same. whatever reason krenov wrote this book (explained at the beginning of the book) is not as important to me as what i actually use this book for, which is inspiration. It also gives me a goal to live up to, a self goal to make furniture at such a high level of refinement. This book contains many many beautiful examples of selected work from krenov and his students, all finely crafted. to me these examples that krenov have chosen from his students' work are in a sense extensions of krenov's own work - interpretations of his style done in comparable quality. there is also some text if you value the insight and opinions of krenov. that's pretty much what the book is: lots of examples of fine work, text with insight and opinions. stuff like this from a master craftsman such as krenov is, to me, invaluable.
A bless for Krenov readers.......2001-06-29
Krenov books are almost perfect , but they have a substantial imperfection in having most of the pictures black and white. This last book corrects this imperfection offering superb color pictures of superb work. Magnificent examples of craftmanship, wise thoughts, and a contagious love for working with wood. A must for Krenov readers.
A different kind of success.......2001-02-08
This book is quite different from Krenov's other, often intensely personal books. His motivation, in large part, is to make the case for his student's furniture, and only by extention his own work, and methods of work. He is concerned that the market hasn't a place for such work, and he hopes to make a place for it through this book. Krenov's previous stance in the Impractical Cabinetmaker, wasn't concerned with lack of viability, but the market has changed, and his students aspirations have apparently influenced him.
The last book Krenov published prior to this effort was Worker in Wood in 1981. In the intervening time, a great deal of his efforts have been spent establishing the Woodworking program at the College of the Redwoods in California. When I first heard that Krenov was writing another book I had hoped he would bring us up to date on his approach to woodwork, twenty years later. It is clear when you look at some of his recent work that it is quite different from where he was 20 years ago. It is also clear that some of the techniques then used have changed. It would be fitting if rather than the older books simply being republished, he could bring his many admirers up to date with a new volume.
While this book is well done, and shows many handsome photographs, there isn't much new. Many of the pictures have appeared previously in other publications, and the text, while powerful in places, is scant. It is rather like a catalogue to an exhibition. A dialogue between Krenov, his star pupils, and potential purchasers of their work.
With Wakened Hands: Cabinetry by James Krenov and Students.......2000-10-14
As usual Mr. Krenov's books are wonderful reading. His insites into craftsmenship are the best. In addison to his wonderful words are all the beautiful pictures of his and his students work. This is a book that no Krenov fan should be without.

Customer Reviews:
Beyond Candlesticks.......2007-08-01
Absolutely an excellent book. If you want to get a comprehensive knowledge of Candlesticks reading Beyond Candlesticks and Nison's first book about candlesticks, Japanese Candlestick Charting Techniques are a must. Nison is an excellent teacher.
Poorly written and edited.......2007-04-28
I bought this book because candlesticks are my favorite bars and reviews here and elsewhere suggested 'Beyond Candlesticks' was better than Nison's first book. Since Nison is supposedly the "father of candlesticks", I assumed he would be the best source of information. However that is not the case. I just purchased Stephen Bigalow's candlestick book and find it a whole lot better and easier to read. Nison mentions his young children in Acknowledgements. I think they must have written and edited the book because it is so elememtary and repetitive. The spelling is terrible (Example: within a few pages we have Eastern Kodak showing an uptread on the dailey charts). Also the grammar is bad at times. It's obvious the author jotted notes in his word processor then flushed them out for all he was worth because there is little info here. There is a lot of musing and a good bit of Nison-hype. It is hard to pay attention to. Further, today's publishers don't care enough to put charts on the same page as the text and truly edit these financial books, so it's even harder to follow. Wiley Publishing is the worst. They likely did this one.
Beyond Candlesticks.......2007-03-14
The book is written in a clear, easy to follow style. The concepts, although not complex, have their nuances and these are dealt with in a way that doesn't confuse or overwhelm the reader. The exercises provided help to consolidate the knowledge gained by the reader. All in all, a very good and useful book.
Highly recommended!.......2007-01-30
The underlying principles on the formation of the patterns were well discussed. Simple to understand due to actual samples.
How to get an edge!.......2006-03-01
Candlesticks are the strongest picture of the internal mass psychology driving the market. Once you have learned how to identify basic candlestick patterns from Steve Nison's first book(Japanese Candlestick Charting Techniques)you must learn how to place them in the context of everyday charts. "Beyond Candlesticks" teaches you how to identify the nuances that can make the difference between a profit and a loss. If you have wondered how to get an edge on the market, this is it. The information on how to combine candlesticks with traditional western technical anlayis, gives you the ability to create a complete trading system.
