Gorgeous nature photos.......2001-10-21
This book of nature photographs is just what I needed amidst all of the reports of anthrax, terrorism, etc. The essays and photo descriptions (reminiscent of haiku) are inspiring, and photos of nature (especially the rock forms) are incredibly beautiful. Several people who saw the book decided to purchase it for themselves.

I bought this as a gift for a friend and am having a hard time giving it up. Philip and Isabella make an intriguing fashion duo. His natural talent and her eye for style make this book worth it, add it to your collection. Great fashion photos and illustration. I love it!

I can go on and on about Michael Kupperman. My friends (that have had the honor of reading this book) and I have adapted Snake N' Bacon catch phrases into our daily lives. Such as, "Chee I wish we had a snackin' cracka" (I'm hungry), "Murder Me? Murder You!" (Gee, I'm angry) and also "We're all private detectives now, that's how it works in this crazy, fast paced world of the future!" Incomparable weirdness.......2001-08-29
Oh, new taste! This is sublime cartoon Dada, an uncontrollable mixmaster of comic book and pulp fiction cliches, miscellaneous 20th century popular culture, and crazed anachronisms (Leonardo da Vinci inventing "Crunchalicious" snackin' crackers for a group of young hooligans straight out of the "Little Rascals".) Every page delivers the unexpected. I was mesmerized, and my wife was howling with laughter the whole time she read it. For those of you who, like me, discovered the work of P. Revess through his occassional appearances in the Zero Zero anthology: this is the same guy. In fact, a couple of the stories in this book were also published in Zero Zero (which were themselves reprinted from other hard to find publications). So if you enjoyed those stories, you'll love this whole collection which is equally surreal and laugh-out-loud funny. For those who haven't read his work in Zero Zero, the reviews below give good descriptions.
Funny and bizarre.......2001-02-17
I am a fan of Bill Fitzhugh and as he recommended it I decided to try it.
Black humour, satire, and tongue-in-cheek send-ups on just about everything related to underground comics abound in Kupperman's little tour-de-force. Kupperman is endlessly inventive with weird super-hero ideas, such as "Underpants on his head man." Some of the other strips like Roger Daltry's Sex Diary, Long John Silver's Sex Diary, The Party Sex Blimps, Ozzy Osbourne in the 25rh century, are hilarious.
I like the way Kupperman takes famous people from the past, such as Einstein, Mark Twain, and Poe and reinvents them as superheroes. A lot of the humour in his work comes from that.
A lot of it is more weird than funny, but there is enough truly funny stuff to make it worth reading through the dry patches. To me it's a lot like what Mark Leyner would do if he did comics strips. As Bill Fitzhugh said in his review, a lot of the humour in Kupperman's work comes from the concept itself. And he's a damn good artist and illustrator as well.

When I first heard of Snake 'n' Bacon about a year ago I laughed out loud. I hadn't seen the drawings -- the idea alone tickled me. Now I've seen the art and I'm knocked silly.
Michael Kupperman is a genius. This collection of work is profoundly inspired. He's created superheros the likes of which have never been seen before: Underpants-on-his-head-man; Dr. Slappy; Rip Lazybones and His Futuristic Wonderbed; and Professor Gastropod to name only a few. And superheros aren't necessarily his strong suit. Part surreal, part non-sequitur, all inspired. The humor comes from the concepts, the dialogue, and the art itself.
If you're a fan of humor that lands in the ballpark with Gary Larson, Monty Python, The Onion, Robert Smigel, Smack the Pony, National Lampoon etc., this collection is for you. And for your friends. Do yourself a favor and get it now! You can thank me later.

Excellent and Easy to Use Guide.......2007-06-11
This is an excellent and very usable selection of cantors for use by clergy during the Eucharistic part of the service. It covers all four selections in the Book of Common Prayer, with traditional and contemporary versions sung. It consists of three CDs with a book showing the music and words. It is an easy-to-follow product and one that was highly recommended to me. I, in turn, would definitely recommend this item to any Celebrant who desires to cantor the Eucharist in whatever mode.

Spectacular book on leadership.......2007-07-15
I bought this book on the recommendation of students who had taken the class with Feiner. It has surpassed all my expectations. Its the most clearly-written and practical book on leadership that I have ever come across. Most books and articles only say "what" to do - and that horse been beaten plenty. Feiner gets into "why" and "how" these ideas should be implemented, e.g., why resenting, stonewalling or badmouthing an incompetent boss is a recipe for disaster. And his genius is in describing simple ways to put lofty ideas into play. This book is SO GOOD that I plan to read it AGAIN after a few months on the job to reflect on issues that have come up.
Practical!.......2007-04-17
On the first page, Michael Feiner disputes the traditional "heroic individual" picture of a leader. This thinking, referred to as "Myth of the Great Man", holds that leadership is an inherently individual phenomenon consisting of solitary heroics, epitomized by Patton, Napoleon, etc... But Feiner states that 90% of leadership is invisible - "the aggregation of hundreds upon hundreds of small interactions - most of which take place out our sight - projected across layer upon layer of relationships, day in and day out". He spends the remaining 250+ pages explaining this, through a series of eponymous Feiner laws of leadership.
Feiner pulls liberally from his experiences at Pepsi. He peppers his high opinion of his own accomplishments with self-deprecating humor, and he shares his mistakes and regrets. His text is very readable and delivered in a conversational style. I found a good many quotable sound bytes I liked, some original and some from other authors.
At times, there seemed to be a repetitive effort to fill pages - laws identified by smug little titles supported by anecdotes from the author's career, then summarized at the end of each chapter and summarized again at the book's end. And occasionally I questioned the logic of the organization of the chapters. However, by the time I finished the book, it all seemed to work.
Feiner offers some really powerful practical insights on treating people right, sticking to your values, and being politically correct where at all possible. No faddish management theory here, just timeless advice and applicable tools that apply to all levels of organizational leadership and interaction. My copy of "The Feiner Points" is full of highlights and notes and I suspect I will be referring to it frequently.
A readable practical book.......2005-12-05
I bought this book few months ago and it was interesting to go through it step by step. As a leader the first thing one must learn is how to deal with subordinates. After going through the 8 laws mentioned in Chapter 3: Leading Subordinates, one can imagine how less we focus on the people who are our main assets. A leader's success depends upon the success of his subordinates and these 8 laws are the basis for that success. One need to read each law multiple times so that it gets engrossed in one's heart. The "Performance contract" is a must for everyone to set clear expectations.
The examples provided in the books are mostly based on author's experience and I found Feiner very sincere in putting them straight. Overall a must for anyone who wants to build lasting relationship with their people.
