Designed with one specific suggestion per page.......2002-10-06
The "great river" is the Mississippi River that provides the western border of Wisconsin. This 250 mile stretch of the river showcases spectacular scenery. Beginning in the north at Prescott, and continuing down to Potosi in the south, there is a superb highway running down along side which is called the "Great River Road". Norm Rogers and Chris Dinesen Rogers have collaborated to produce for the traveler or vacationer traveling along this highway system a highly recommended and very portable compendium of 101 suggestions of things to do and see. Designed with one specific suggestion per page, each entry also includes a specific and relevant fact. If you are planning a day-trip or an extended weekend along Wisconsin's share of the Great River Road, then begin planning your itinerary by browsing through the pages of Norm and Chris Rogers' 101 Things To Do On The Wisconsin Great River Road!
What a Fun Book !.......2002-09-18
For the past several years, Chris and I have traveled the Great River Road in Wisconsin, and while doing so, looked for the perfect travel guide. Everything we found seemed to be self-serving, paid advertisements, so we decided to write our own. "101 Things To Do" is a list of fun things that can be enjoyed by the entire family. It turned out to be the best little book. Even after driving the Road a dozen times, it still keeps us busy. I would recommend this book to anyone.
Fun, travel book.......2002-08-26
A delightful travel companion with interesting suggestions and fun trivia! Definitely leads you down the "road less traveled" with great results!

Fun To Flip Through.......2005-12-12
This coffee table style book is organized by decade and full of illustrations and photographs. Because of similar books already in our collection (e.g. HATS by Colin McDowell or HATS IN VOGUE) that were published earlier, this 1999 contribution didn't add much to the genre for us, but if you don't have one of the similar books, this is a good one to collect.
aspiring milliner.......2002-02-09
Nice overall presentation of hat styles, designers. milliners.
Brief, informative bios.
Great photos, great reference book.
Must have for hat enthusiasts as well as hat makers.
Not a source for technique.
A bit chaotic but nice; lots of information.......2001-05-09
The book covers hats, hat-makers and hat-wearers of the 20th century. It does have a chronological order, however, the contents still seem a bit jumbled. There is not much detail, but loads of information - all kinds of little tidbits and short (very short) biographies of milliners, "flashlights" on famous hat-buyers and fashion-leaders and their influence on the hat-styles of their time, little histories on single hat-styles and so forth. If you're looking for specific information - be prepared for despair. You'd have to be either very determined or very lucky to find the information you're looking for. If you want an easy-reader with great pictures, a feeling for the decades of the 20th century, the people and the hats, this is IT. The aspects and number of people and hats covered or featured is amazing. Overall, I'd recommend the book (there are not enough books on hats out there, anyway!) but would advise you to look elsewhere for detailed information.
A must for hat lovers!!!.......2000-09-13
I have always been a lover of hats and I when I picked up this wonderful book I could not put it down. The photographs are absolutly outstanding, colorful and detailed, the text wonderfully written, and a great book to have on your coffee table. Even if you don't collect hats as a hobbie this book is wonderful to cuddle up with on the couch or in front of a cozy fire.
Best book of the year.......2000-07-21
The pictures are great, the text is well written. You learn more about famous milliners like Philip Treacy or Patricia Underwood. I simply love this book.

Milk & Cheese -- a carton of hate and a wedge of spite! Follow the adventures of these dairy products gone bad as they trash the American pop culture landscape. Violence, humor and lots of shtick. Comic book funnies at their finest.
Customer Reviews:
funny, violent, clever, repetitive and everything else good.......2004-03-07
This is the best humor comic I have ever read, laughing out loud through every issue. Milk and Cheese basically hate everything and everyone with the exception of booze drinks, sharp objects, TV, Don Knotts, violence and Threes Company. They do what every person has wanted to do at least once in their lives (or several times a day for some)...maul and eye gouge their way through most segements of the population. Nobody is safe from these dairy products gone bad, they taget everyone from fat people to stand up comedians (with satisfying results)! That being said, keep the kids and the easily offended Sallys away from this one. The book is summed up best in their own words: "We hate what you hate, and we hate you!"
Booze and violence.......2000-10-24
This is one of the funniest comics around today (another being DORK, also by M&C creator Evan Dorkin). Why is it funny? Because Milk and Cheese get away with something we all wish we could get away with: getting liquored up and beating the crap out of annoying people. That's all this comic is, but then that's all it needs to be. Well, maybe that, and a dash of talk-show viewing, but even to do that, they have to rend, pummel, lacerate, and bludgeon anyone who gets in their way. This is pure mayhem, a 2-man riot.
Hilarious dialogue only adds to the mayhem. It's apparent that M&C take their mission, to destroy all idiots, very seriously. The question is: how can Evan Dorkin take essentially the same storyline and make it entertaining over and over again? Believe me, he does it VERY well, and the little comments and asides add immeasurably to the fun. I would prefer to give this 9 of 10, so please forgive the 4.
Now if only he'd start collecting DORK in trade editions. I need more!
Dairy Products Gone Horribly Wrong.......2000-04-06
MILK & CHEESE : Alcoholic dairy products filled w/ hate and aggression bent on correcting the status quo and the insipid (are they the same? They think so). It's downright hilarious and completely leftfield. An absolute *MUST* for anyone who sees a riotous playground in seeing an animated carton of milk and a wedge of cheese (my heroes) wreak havoc on everything and everyone.
This is the trade paperback that collects the first 4 volumes. Collect them all!
Milk and Cheese are godlike!!.......1999-08-07
Abolutely the funniest comics in the world!!! Read all of their books now!!!
Funny stuff.......1999-07-15
If you have a sense of humor and a strong stomach, you need to buy this book. My friend and I both agree that "Armed and Hammered" should be read by everyone, so when you buy this sit it on your coffee table and make your guests read it.

Essential reading for the Usagi Fan.......2007-01-20
While I agree with others' reviews that this is not the best place to start, for someone like me who had previously read other, later Usagi installments, it turned out that this issue filled in some key back stories. If like me, you are already familiar with the characters Jen and Ino, you definitely will want to read Volume 4.
In addition, the intro by Alejandro Jodorowsky provides an unintentional chuckle. Of Usagi, Jodorowsky writes, "Rendered with a grace that verges on the miraculous...". Hey Alejandro, it's just a comic book :-)
Dragon! Dragon! Rock the Dragon! USAGI BALL Z! (yeah, I know...I'm bored).......2006-09-25
This collection consists of one long epic story arc. Tomoe is sent on a spy mission into a rival lords territory where she discovers a plot to overthrow the Shogun. Unfortunately she is captured before she can relay word to Lord Hikiji. It is left up to Miyamoto Usagi to free Tomoe and upset the rival lord's plot. Along the way Usagi finds himself allied with former enemies Ino (the blind swords pig/outlaw), Shingen and his clan, as well as his ol'buddies Gen and Spot.
This is a great story for fans of Usagi Yojimbo but I must caution new and young fans. This is more of an epic story instead of the usual short one shots you may be use to. Also, you may need to be familiar with the series to make sense with all of the events.
the Dragon Bellow Conspiracy.......2005-09-22
My son and I love Usagi Yojimbo, so 'The Dragon Bellow Conspiracy' was definately a hit, though not our absolute favorite issue. It was in excellent condition and we are happy to own it.
I was somewhat disappointed with the purchasing however. I applied for the Amazon credit card in order to take advantage of the half off deal they were advertising... I was told that I didn't qualify, so I didn't order the other books I wanted. Then, some time later, I got their credit card in the mail! This made no sense to me, so I called and closed the account.
An excellent tale........2003-04-15
A nice cast of characters and plenty of action. Shingen, Gen, Zato-Ino, Spot, Tomoe, Noriyuki, Chizu and introducing a favorite character of mine, Captain Torame. Who is friend and who is foe changes from chapter to chapter, and three of the main characters above bite the dust. Gen and Zato-Ino have their final showdown, and Lord Hebi makes a cameo near the end. A nice chapter in the Usagi saga, but not a book for one who is not familiar with Usagi and his world. A better introduction is Book 6, Circles or starting at the beginning with Book 1, Ronin.

Book Description
When they appeared on the British rock scene in the early 1990s—a bastard fusion of the Smiths and Ziggy Stardust—some called them “The Best New Band in Britain.” At the time, the group—based around flamboyant vocalist Brett Anderson and guitarist Bernard Butler—hadn’t released one note of music. What followed was an eponymous album that was to become the fastest–selling debut in British musical history, as well as a decade of narcotic excess, redemption, and fantastic pop music. Now fully updated to include the inside story of the band’s decision to split and Brett’s new solo ventures, Suede: Love and Poison traces the scarcely credible story of a band that went to hell and back.

If you cannot borrow this book, buy it........2007-01-28
Finally, we get to SEE what great art like Suede's records are:
The product of WORK, of a bit of skill, smattering of talent, and imagination---coming from a group of men who are, as this book reveals, little more than average human beings.
And, I realize that is what Brett Anderson may have been saying all these years, and which he skillfully manages to make you understand in this book---after all, I have trouble believing that there not a word in here that Anderson did not allow.
Brett Anderson, after all, is perverse, and likes to be watched.
What does this mean? It means that you will probably not LIKE Brett Anderson, as a person, all that much, as you read this---he IS a drug addict, Brett IS boring, Brett, after the makeup is wiped off, is a very, very, normal man. What makes Brett Anderson the BRETT ANDERSON of Suede is not some distant notion of "the artist", some marketed "other creature", some unattainable fantasy for oneself, that, when we do not achieve it, fills us with cold despair that causes us to consume food, or clothing, or addiction.
No, what this book makes very clear is Brett Anderson (and I am NOT ignoring the "other members", but he is the "face", and the voice of the book) is the type of REAL artist as William Blake may have imagined-a very ordinary person who can use imagination to transcend that "ordinary" and make real something that did not exist before. Brett Anderson is not the hand-crafted, calculating Morrissey, or a wealthy John Lennon declaring himself a living artist/god-in fact, Brett seems to have been able to lead this band and write these songs to SPITE of who he "is"--an organic display of creation, for creation's sake:
Nowhere in the book does it seem that success or being in a rock band inevitable, easy, or fun. In fact what is emphasized is how hard this band have worked, and the songs you hear are the result of that, and that, my friends, is true art.
In spite of precocious drug habits, in spite of being poor, in spite of being despised, Brett Anderson, Mat Osman, and Simon kept on, disciplined themselves to create music, and to continue making music. This is what is missing from so many would-be artists, or would be human-beings.
It has nothing to do with luck, privilege, money, or genius. As the members of demonstrate and this book painfully reveals, it is hard work, determination and creative potential that creates an ultimate meaning. It is too bad that they are "obscure" in America, because, in this country, we go through a "genius" every three months, and can learn a few lessons from a story like Suede's. Genius is there to only praise itself, an artist works every day to create, and THAT is the message the book delivers.
More than a glam racket.......2006-06-12
Barnett's love of the band charges his breathless delivery and he is particularly eloquent in his salacious accounts of the early days of the band where their mystique was at its strongest. For anyone with an interest in the major players of the Britpop this is also a vital read. The book challenged my opinions of Justine Frischmann and Damon Albarn (the chapter where Brett channels his heartbreak from losing Frischmann to Albarn in songs like `Pantomime Horse' is inspirational). Barnett is at his best capturing the mercurial brilliance of Suede at their peak, such as when Butler provokes the crowd by flicking v signs behind Brett's back at their final gig. However the books major strength is also perhaps its weakness. Barnett is a close friend of the bands after having written the Suave and Elegant fanzine and this gives him behind the scenes access to the post-Butler Suede, and though this is vital to the books strength it also perhaps causes him to lose objectivity in his account. As a close confidante of the remaining members, Butler refuses to be interviewed by Barnett (perhaps due to his closeness to other members?) and therefore the books version of events is skewed by having its genesis in the anti-Butler camp. For example, diary extracts from band members are included and Butler is simply referred to as `c***'. Despite this Butler comes across as the bands real enigma, a man who refuses to compromise his artistic vision (leaving the sound of sharpening knives on his band mates phone while they finish Dog Man Star without him) and leaves a band who go on to crack addiction while he embarks in typically uncompromising style on a series of projects. Butler is in eloquent form in `The Last Party' where he gives his version of events, and I'd recommend it as a good way to get a balanced account of Butler and Anderson's severed alliance. I'd also recommend the second edition of this book, as in it (to Richard Oakes' chagrin) Anderson gets back in touch with Butler in a London bar to revive their partnership. This book is passionate, detailed and well written and a must-have for any Suedehead.
Barnett's biography takes the poison with the pity.......2005-03-23
What is the use of publishing a rock biography about a band hardly anyone has heard in America. One appearance on Jay Leno and two short tours resulting in stolen equipment. Why? The Suede story is more than a jumble sale of business meetings, hype, and record deals; it's epic, spanning, even "Machiavellian" according to lead chanteuse Brett Anderson. All right then, power to the princes of Britpop.
David Barnett has a stunning go of following Brett and the gang from diapers to drugs. Highlights include the courting of Justine Frischmann (later of Elastica fame) in a love story that will have any girlie agog and the polarization that forced Bernard Butler to leave the band. Barnett's descriptions of all events, down to dress and décor, are as colourful as a girl on the cover of a magazine. He sculpts each member fully as a character, except for pop-tartlet Neil Codling whose brief stint with Suede, other than a few common stories, is discussed to a minimum.
Unlike later bands only qualifying to fling themselves on a bandwagon of media frenzy, Suede was the grandfather of Britpop. Don't let the nomenclature stop you. This isn't a Blur or Oasis tale of rabblerousing fools. Suede's intellectual, artistic sensibility, in this biography, as in their music, is given priority.
Moreover, Barnett has credibility. A member of the Suede team for a number of years, he includes personal anecdotes not only enhancing the story but also giving it a flash, friendly style. Knowing the band is, honestly, half the battle especially when it comes to Suede. Reclusive, psychotic, artful, and unmatched, this biography takes you all the places you wanted to go: from Spain to Camber Sands and back again.
GREAT official biography of this awesome band.......2004-12-16
This is THE definitive, officially authorized biography of one of the best English rock bands of the 1990's. Suede: Love and Poison is an in-depth and candid look at the band from the humble beginnings of singer Brett Anderson all the way to the uncertainty following their final album in 2002. What's nice, besides all of the information contained in here, is that David Barnett is not afraid to be critical and speak honestly about a band he obviously cares about so much. Along with Blur's official biography 3862 days, this is one of the best rock bios around.
Even if you don't read Camus or Bret Easton Ellis..........2004-02-21
...you should read LOVE & POISON (and when you're done, get cracking on the other two).
Okay, so I may have alienated some of my audience already with that intro. No bother. If one of your obsessions is Suede, you'll get it; if it isn't, no matter. The point is-after I am done trying to be cute-that if you're a fan of music, you should read this book. Barnett does an amazing job of cataloguing the rise and fall and rise and fall and semi-rise to maybe rise of a rock band, following them over more than a decade. Suede, for their part, give him full access and aren't shy about what colossal screw ups they can be. It's no surprise, though. Anyone who knows their music knows that these blokes understand how one must plumb the depths in order to understand just how high the highs can be.
For fans of Suede, this book is going to knock you on your duff. Barnett's prose is addicting, unrolling the history of one Brett Anderson as he begins cultivating the personality of a true pop genius in a small British town, collecting like-minded kooks on the way, and ultimately, in 1992, changing the face of UK guitar music forever. Barnett writes with the critical eye of a true fan. He isn't afraid to indicate when his heroes have let him down, and he is also their staunchest defender, standing the ground for them when their critics get hypocritical. And when everything is banging-on perfect, he manages to imbue his prose with the hysteria everyone felt while in the thick of it.
I could go on and on. Barnett gets the band to lay their creative process bare, escorting us inside the classic songs, the amazing albums. He tracks down as much of the colorful cast as possible, including early manager Ricky Gervais (later to earn fame as the mastermind of THE OFFICE) and Elastica woman Justine Frischmann (finally, some of the truth behind the infamous love triangle of her, Brett, and Blur's Damon Albarn). (Only original guitarist Bernard Butler avoids the proceedings, which is a shame, since this was probably his best chance to have his side of the story aired fairly.) It's a tome full of sweet, delicious candy, and you're going to want to have all the CDs by your side as you read. And you'll want to send Mr. Barnett a lovely thank you note for making it all come alive once more.
If I had one complaint, it was something beyond the author's control. The book ends on an up note as Suede prepare for the future. Only at the time of publication, the band dissolved, by various reports either breaking up completely or going on hiatus. This followed a SINGLES compilation and an amazing clutch of new material, leaving many fans to ponder just what the hell happened. Let's hope for an expanded paperback edition so Barnett can get us the scoop!

Hail to the King Baby!.......2005-06-26
Quick: An excellent game that captures the feel and fun of the movie and expands on the established mythos. Great as a stand alone game, as a "Campaign sourcebook" or as an addition to any other Eden Unisystem game.
(...)
Time to kick some Ash.
If nothing else the new Army of Darkness RPG from Eden Studios (AoD RPG) will give your game group hours of puns like these or spontaneously shooting off quotes from the movie, if they don't already do that now.
The new AoD RPG is the latest offering from Eden using the Cinematic Unisystem rules. Cinematic Unisystem is a stripped down to basics rule set to foster fast play in a cinematic style game. That is not to say the rules are non-existent, just non-obtrusive. Cinematic Unisystem plays similar to it's big brother Classic Unisystem, which powers such games as All Flesh Must Be Eaten, WitchCraft and Armageddon. If you want to use this game with those, no problem, not only is it very easy, but there is a great Appendix in the back to handle the details. AoD shares Cinematic Unisystem with Eden's Origin's winning Angel RPG, Buffy the Vampire Slayer RPG and Ghosts of Albion RPG. Here taking characters from one game to next is easy and no conversions are needed. In fact one could conceivably play one game consisting of all four game books in one big, really bad world.
Rough parallels can be drawn between Cinematic games and Classic one. Buffy is built like a cinematic version of WitchCraft, Angel invokes the same feel as Armageddon, and likewise AoD takes on a lot of it's feel from it's older brother All Flesh Must Be Eaten.
If you like the movie Army of Darkness (or any of the Evil Dead movies) or any of Eden's other games then you should pick this up. If you are not sure if the AoD RPG is for you then let's get into the details.
Chapter 1 is the introduction with some Army of Darkness style fiction added in. It's nice, but you will only read it once in your life. The rest of the chapter is pretty straight forward and reads exactly like every other Chapter 1 in any Eden book. This is both good and bad. Bad in the fact I have now bought this chapter at least 10 times now. It's good because it also means that I can pick up any of those books and know immediately what to expect. There is a new part here though, one on the cosmology of the game. It's not bad, but I am not sure if I will use it or not. Like most roleplayers I have a varied and complex mythos surrounding my games where the machinations of powerful beings 5,000 years ago shape my world today. Then again this is supposed to fast and loose and for crying out loud the movie depicted England with a desert, so heck with all that, what I really want to do is stomp on some deadites. I don't care if they were sent by "The Old Ones", Satan or Santa.
Chapter 2 is the meat for the normal gamer; how to create characters and give them some cool stuff. Again, some of this is ported right over from "Angel", but that is not really that bad since it is really the best stuff with more added. Plus I want my games to be compatible, so I do want my "white hats" and my "mundanes" to be able to hang with the "primitive screw heads" and not bicker over which version of "Hard to Kill" to buy. There are some new qualities and a lot of new drawbacks to choose from. Plus the focus shifts from the magically empowered supernaturals of Buffy/Angel to the regular guys and gals doing what's right of Army of Darkness. If you enjoy playing "normal" characters then this is the book for you.
The skills are unchanged from Angel/Buffy in keeping with the Cinematic scope, but they are a little more defined. Let's face it, Ash did more with his car in two hours than Buffy/Angel did in 12 collective seasons, so a little more attention is paid to what you can do.
The archetypes are great and if you are familiar with the archetypes from Buffy or Angel you will recognize the style and art here. In general the archetypes reflect the focus of the game, normal guy or gal, way weird circumstances. I found them a tad hard to read with the colored background, but that could be my PDF. Loved the archaeolbogist (though her portrait has Appearance of at least +2 even if she doesn't in the sheet) loved the Zorro guy, gunslinger, night stalker dude, and the roller baller. Adding the game designer might have been a little too cheesy, but hey I don't blame them one bit and for this game it works. It also includes the original cast, but Ash is the main guy. For anyone that has ever wanted to know "who would win in a fight, Ash or ____?" well here is where you can find the answers.
Chapter 3 is also the same as many of Eden's chapter 3s. It has the rules. Since the rules are not significantly modified from other games, some can skip this all together. But if you do you will be missing some good bits. First off Eden has learned from Buffy and Angel and this chapter is laid out a lot clearer. There is also the whole new set of rules covering land vehicles; a really nice addition to the Cinematic game universe.
Chapter 4 is really nice. Every Eden book has it's true gem, the one thing that makes that book worthwhile. WitchCraft has it's magic system, Angel has it's demon creation rules, and Army of Darkness has it's Battle System. This is mass combat system for Cinematic Unisystem but on reading it, it would certainly work for any Unisystem game. It keeping with the cinematic tone the rules are fast and free flowing, but like all of Cinematic Unisystem they are designed to maximize the fun and playability.
Chapter 5 is the information for the Directors out there. Not too different, and in this case that is not the best thing. I was reading it over and the whole time I keep feeling I was reading a chapter out of Buffy or Angel, with the talk of "episodes" and "Seasons". Yes, episode is still a fine name and great workable game mechanic. But "Army of Darkness" is not a TV show, it is a movie. I would have liked to see how to set up a big epic battle or mimic the feel of a movie with some plot elements compressed. Like Ash said to Shelia "first you want to kill me now you want to kiss me", things like love have to happen pretty fast, faster than TV. So what I would have liked then is to see the sidebar on "Other Ways to Do It" expanded into a full chapter with "The TV Show" set up as just one option. Granted, for those Directors planning huge AoD/Buffy/AFMBE/WitchCraft epic crossover campaigns, this chapter works to your advantage.
Chapter 6 sets up the who, what and where elements. All needed for this game where being sucked into a portal and waking up in England in the Middle Ages is normal. It is nice the see that one other movie is Eden's most watched list outside of Army of Darkness and that is The Holy Grail. Or at least that is how I felt after reading this chapter because I sure as hell can run that Holy Grail RPG now with this book. It is a bit odd that some characters, Arthur in particular, got a full character sheet in Chapter 2 and a quick sheet here as well. Reason? Don't know, see the disclaimer above. But I do know that it was spaced used that could have been dedicated to something else. No big. Moving on.
I have to admit the title "Graveyard...of the Dead" made me laugh.
The creatures are neat and there are a lot of ideas here for an AoD game or even adding them to your Buffy/Angel game. OR better yet expand these little nasties with the Angel demon creation rules.
Chapter 7, coughWorlds of Darknesscough is actually really cool. It is your typical "heres how you set up adventures", but the examples given are more fleshed out that some other entire game worlds. There is an ancient Sumerian style adventure where you need to prevent the writing of the Necronomicon (you have to love any game that refers to Ereshkigal as a Goth Chick); a pulp-era stop the Nazi's from getting occult artifacts adventure and future setting hinted at in the Director's Cut of Army of Darkness. All are complete with more really cool monsters and vehicle rules.
Chapter 8 is a full blown adventure, I won't talk about it too much here so as not to ruin it for potential players.
There is an Appendix of Unisystem conversion notes if you want to switch between this and Classic Unisystem. I nice detailed list on Character Creation, all the tables from the text including a comprehensive list of qualities and drawbacks from the book. Tables and charts for combat and weapons. The book ends with a solid index (the weakest part of `Angel', not repeated here) and a nice character sheet. Sure you can use your "Buffy" sheet or even the Buffy or Angel character Journals, but this is a nice clean sheet. Since I have the PDF I printed one out on a B&W laser printer and it looked great.
Whats Good: Overall the book is fantastic, a completely playable game based on Eden's Origins award winning Cinematic Unisystem rules (Angel, Best New RPG 2003). Plus it captures the feel and the fun of the original movie quite well.
Whats Bad: I have to admit I got tired of the informal tone of the book, but that could be just me. And let's be honest, it is a perfect choice to go with the movie.
Whats Missing: No magic rules. But they do acknowledge this and there wasn't really any magic in movie that wasn't used "off stage" or by the minions of evil. Want magic in your AoD game? Buy a copy "The Magic Box Sourcebook" for the Buffy RPG or get a copy of Ghosts of Albion whe

Review of the secrets every network marketer must know.......2006-03-20
This book is very timely for those of us who are new in networking. I found so much that is good for me to put into action. The book is easy to read and, for the most part, takes care of the questions I came up with, as I read the book. The only reason I give it four stars is because, as I was reading there were a few questions that I didn't have answers to until the end of the book. I would recommend this book to anyone in multi-level sales.
