Customer Reviews:
A Balance of Power!.......2001-01-27
As a mature male, I found Griselda Polock's observations reach far beyond the medium of art production alone. It enters on the core of basic human relations in an ever-changining materialistic environment dominated by a male ethos.
A hidden male agenda lies quietly in waiting to be explored. The concept of "modern" is amplified to the point of no return; leaving the time-worn question on the reconciliation between the sexes open to further discussion.

Book Description
The publication of Vision and Difference marked a milestone in the development of modern art history. Its introduction of a feminist perspective into this largely male-oriented discipline made shockwaves that are still felt forcefully today.
Drawing upon rich resources of feminist cutural analysis hitherto little applied to the visual arts, Griselda Pollock offers concrete historical analyses of key moments in the formation of modern culture to reveal the sexual politics at the heart of modernist art. Crucially, she not only provides a feminist re-reading of the work of canonical male Impressionist and Pre-Raphaelite artists including Edgar Degas and Dante Gabriel Rossetti, but also re-inserts into art history their female contemporaries - women artists such as Berthe Morisot and Mary Cassatt. Casting her critical eye over the contemporary art scene, Pollock discusses the work of women artists such as Mary Kelly and Yve Lomax, highlighting the problems of working in a culture where the feminineis still defined as the object of the male gaze.
Now published with a new introduction by Griselda Pollock, Vision and Difference remains as powerful and as essential reading as ever for all those seeking not only to understand the history of the feminine in art but also to develop new strategies for representation for the future.
Customer Reviews:
Same Book, Puffed-Up New Edition.......2004-12-18
Professor Pollack, a pioneer of feminist criticism and art history, has written a classic in Vision and Difference. This new edition has a cover with her surname in bold letters, Pollack, as if playing off her famous name. An unsturdy introduction adds a page to the length of the book.
After careful study of both editions, one will find no textural additions to this edition.
The title has been changed by juxtaposing words so that the first edition does not appear along side this version.
The first edition is titled Vision and Difference: FEMININITY, FEMINISM and the Histories of Art. Two words have been switched.
Makes you think..........2004-12-15
I had to read portions of this for an Anthropology class and from what I read I had to read the rest of it. Reading this book brings up many thoughts, not just about feminism or the feminist movement, but about society's habit of labeling people and groups of people in general. It's not a light read, but is worth it if you can finish it.

Book Description
How does a country dress itself? From Montreal's 'Retail Mile,' to Ontario's millinery trade, to how war and television can effect the garment industry or whether tailoring can make a cultural impact, Alexandra Palmer gathers together some of the top curators, designers, fashion writers, historians, and artists in the country to create a truly dynamic and thought-provoking collection of essays.
Controversial and unconventional, Fashion: A Canadian Perspective challenges readers to consider aspects of Canadian identity in terms of what its citizenship has chosen to wear for the last three centuries, and the internal and external influences of those socio-cultural decisions. Covering a broad range of topics - such as the iconic Hudson Bay Blanket Coats, garment factories of the late 1800s, specific Canadian fashion couturiers whose influences reach international stages, and the contemporary role of fashion journalists and their effect on trends - this collection breaks new ground in producing multiple perspectives on fashion and fashion dress.
In a country that has given birth to such global fashion corporations as Club Monaco, Roots, and MAC, Fashion: A Canadian Perspective develops the first intriguing and readable historiography that links past to future, couture vision to trade trends, and heritage costuming to FashionTelevision.

Book Description
Shoe is cartooning at its best. The strip captures issues and ideas that speak to a wide and diverse audience. It conveys volumes through its humor and simple lines. The First 27 Years of Shoe: World Ends at Ten, Details at Eleven exhibits that clarity and cartooning essence in frame after frame, strip after strip. The first Shoe collection of Jeff MacNelly and company's works since 1994, this book is a delight from Dave Barry's foreword to Mike Peters's "backward."Edited by Chris Cassatt and Susie MacNelly, who along with Gary Brookins keep Shoe as lively, vital, and vibrant as Jeff did until his death in June 2000, The First 27 Years of Shoe contains hundreds of cartoons from 1977 to the present. Plenty of MacNelly extras pepper the book, including actual (and critical, of course) notes from Jeff's teachers, as well as photos and warm remembrances of the creative genius who won three Pulitzer Prizes for his editorial cartooning and two Reubens, cartooning's highest award, for Shoe.Best of all, though, The First 27 Years of Shoe includes just that: year after year of Shoe, Perfesser Cosmo Fishhawk, Skyler, and Roz-along with Senator Batson D. Belfry, Irving Seagull, Wiz, Loon, and more-squawking, diving, and flying hard through life's ups and downs. Through the decades Shoe has proven both successful and memorable, a tribute sure to be shared by this MacNelly collection.

Jeff MacNelly is a genius!.......2006-11-07
I work as a reporter and part of the humor in Shoe is that when a friend or family member calls me and tells me about that day's installment, I tell them that things like that happen every day in the office. Jeff MacNelly is right up there with Charles Schultz, Bill Keane and all the other comic artists who can make you laugh just by holding up a mirror to your life. His "Shoe" is to our profession what "Beetle Bailey" is to soldiers and "Zits" is to parents.
As for the book, I can't put it down. I have read it straight through about six times and I always find something new to laugh at. If you buy this book, you will too.
Very enjoyable!.......2006-02-24
We liked the 27 Years of Shoe very much. It is very humorous. The author has a great sense of humor. The book is a very good read.
For fans of Shoe.......2005-10-09
This is a nice collection of Shoe over the years, and really for fans of the comic strip rather than a more general audience. Of course, several of my favorites are not present, but the quirky characters are well represented. A surprise was a page of repetitions which was unexpected. The size of the book is a bit awkward for a bookcase. The book is divided by decades, and there are thumbnail pictures of MacNelly and friends, family, and pets.
shoe-masterpiece.......2005-07-13
this is a great compilation of shoe comics spanning 25 years and accurately represents the work of a fine author. the only thing that kept it from being 5 stars was the fact that it left out some of my personal favorites but all in all a great purchase for any shoe fan or any comic strip fan in general!

A Peek into Lee.......2002-11-03
This collection of correspondence gives the reader a chance to peek into the mind and life of Bruce Lee. We get to tag along on his first trip to the US since his birth, his friendships, his marriage, his children, what he thought of the jet set, how the dog was eating, father-son bonding, etc. His heart went into every word, as his hand interpreted the flow of his mind.
Bruce's widow, Linda Emery Lee Cadwell, mentions in one of the forwards that until the last year of his life, Bruce didn't have enough money to make excessive long distance phone calls. I'd hate to sound selfish, but, lucky for us.
the real Bruce Lee...........2001-10-25
I thought this book offered a completely different perspective of Bruce Lee and offered quality reading into the personal life of a famous martial artist. His letters were very honest, thought-provoking, and genuine from beginning to end. There was one very short and disturbing letter towards the end of the book which, in my opinion, was a significant clue as to why he passed so early and I hope other readers can understand this clue as well.
John Little did an extraordinary job of presenting the letters in order and importance as with all of his books on Bruce Lee. Highly recommended!
Great.......1999-02-25
Great book. I liked reading about Bruce Lee's thoughts and ideas
Another view of the man.......1999-01-08
This book provides another view of the legendary Bruce Lee. I really enjoyed reading his thoughts on the martial arts, his work (film and books) and his family. The letters to Linda showed how much he loved his wife and children. I know this is part of her life too and she may want to keep it private, but I would have liked to see some of the letters she wrote back to Bruce.

Book Description
Professor Grim's bio-bibliography is the first publication in English to bring together the considerable amount of scholarship that has been devoted to Reger's life and work and to his role in the transition from late romanticism to modernism. The volume begins with a brief biography and a discussion of Reger's works and his reputation among musicians, scholars, and the public. There follows a complete listings of works and performances and a discography of commercially produced recordings. The annotated bibliography includes writings by and about Max Reger and his music, compositional style, and performances, with passages from the more important publications quoted. Appendixes list Reger's compositions chronologically and by genre, and a comprehensive name index conludes the volume. The revival of critical interest in romantic and late romantic composers make this bibliography especially timely.

Shien shines on.. and so will you after letting his special sanity into your neurology. At One Big Idea Consulting Limited NZ Schein is always on our 100-Day Action Projects menu. Nutritional Food for thought as well as organisation processing.
Consulting Process, NOT Process Consulting.......2007-08-07
Just to clarify, this is a book on the consulting process, not a book about process consulting. The title and description of the book are misleading. Consulting Process (this book) discusses how to go about the activities of consulting, while Process Consulting is the field of consulting covering business process analysis and design.
Power Piece of Writing.......2007-03-17
I thought this book was fantastic. It was so great to sit down and read almost the entire book in one setting. I took the entire Martin Luther King holiday and devoted it to this book with amazing results.
Not only was it refreshing to read such a small (but powerful) book, but I loved the authors avid use of short, paragraphs, acronyms (examples: p-c, OD, etc.) as well as, bulleted and numbered items. I thought this worked really well for providing the reader with vast information in an easy to read and understand format.
It was interesting that the books author; Edgar Schein, spent quite an amount of time in the book describing process consultation and the role it plays in organizational development by outlining his own experience. By utilizing this form of writing I was able to pull together ample information from both the concepts outlined in the book and practical application of them.
I really enjoyed Chapter Fours section entitled; Types of Coping Responses to Emotional Issues. After reading through the three basics kinds of coping patterns observed; I began seeking out indviduals in my work environment who fit particular patterns.
It was interesting to read that once individuals within a group open the lines of communication they can determine whether or not sharing personal feelings regarding other group members and work might be effective.
Within Chapter Seven, the thing that caught my eye was the author's avid use of powerful words to grasp the readers attention; such as; trust subordinates, professionalism, ambivalent, total leader and total group.
Schein shines in his succint and clear consulting book.......2007-03-09
The book has pragmatic information that can be applied, and explains enough theory for anyone to understand where the consulting model is coming from. Well written by a leader in organizational development.
A Book That Works.......2006-08-27
This book is a "must have" for anyone who works with individuals in a coaching role.
