A must have book for anyone interested in the hobby!.......2006-09-04
As a professional rare coin dealer, this is one of the books I recommend to new investors as well as investors and collectors who are trying to gain as much insight and information into numismatics "before they invest". In-depth and informative, Breens encyclopedia is a must have for any investor or collector of rare coins.
Walter Breens Complete Encyclopedia of US and Colonial Coins.......2001-12-08
Indispensable for the serious collector as well as the novice.
The "bible" for United States coins. Walter Breen spent his
life researching and cataloging coins. Tons of photos and die
variety information. Highly recommended.

VISIONAIRE 25 - VISIOANRY.......1999-05-10
I suppose trying to follow no.24 is hard when you had Tom Ford of GUCCI being guest editor and it comming in a black shinny light box specially manufactured by GUCCI for Visionaire but that shouldn't have been a problem for the ever creative genius Stephen Gan whose the editor in chief of Visionaire. In it being the 25th anniversary I was expecting it to be a mouth open shock but instead was a shrug of the shoulders. It came in a cobolt blue album like packaging containg 25 sleeves featuring most of the top designers and photographers of the fashion world and a small selection of New Visions by new talent which where amongst the best if not the best in the album. Anyways its a must have for the Visionaire groupie like I but otherwise I suggest you start your collection with no.26 or get your hands on the hot GUCCI issue no.24 before it becomes priceless.
Anniversary Edition.......1999-04-15
This edition of visionaire is a special: the 25th issue. It comes in a square box, just like a record, in which you can find contributions from Karl Lagerfeld and Mario Testino. Also in the box is a limited edition cd: the soundtrack of Visionaire. Order it today because it is made in a limited edition of 5000 copies.

Herman Classics: Volume 3 (Herman Classics series).......2007-01-06
If you enjoy reading HERMAN then this book is a must. We couldn't stop laughing so much. A lot are duplicates from other Jim Unger books BUT in color they are so much better.
Classic humour, Great delivery!.......2005-12-13
Unger's work continues to illicit laughs years after his first cartoons were published. A keen eye for the every day and every man humour around us, he strikes at the heart of what amuses us, the ordinary presented ridiculously, or the irritating presented with great style and understatement. And not a page is turned without a chuckle or a gut busting laugh. If you've been a fan, as I have been for many years, or are new to Unger, the Classics Volume 3 will delight, entertain, and leave you with more than a few tears of laughter rolling down your cheeks. If you're new to Unger pick up Classics Volume 3 and you'll find yourself returning for previous volumes. Every fan of the absurd and ridiculous should have a library of Unger to recharge your humour batteries when they're running low. Thanks Jim for the laughs.
Timeless humor, laugh-out-loud funny!!!.......2005-11-09
I first discovered Jim Unger's "Herman" when I was a teenager. For the next several years I bought every Herman Treasury Collection as they became available. I was amazed that any comic could be so consistently (laugh-out-loud type) funny. I'm now 41 and I just rediscovered my Herman collection during a move. The humor of Herman is definitely ageless because I still laugh every time I pick up one of the collections.
I just purchased the Herman Classics Collections vol. 1, 2 and 3 (beautiful books, great print quality) and I hope that their are more on the way.
My recommendation to the publisher - publish a hardbound master collection at some point, something that would look nice on my bookshelves and something that I can pass along to my grandkids ("Gee, grandpa had a sense of humor!").
Book Description
The bigger they are, the harder they fall . . . and the more they pounce on one another. That's the message that comes through in Boze Hadleigh's latest celebrity gossip collection, Celebrity Diss and Tell. Goodness, they have something to say about everyone! Luckily for those who relish insider information and star dirt, Hadleigh is right there to capture their spicy quotes.
Celebrity Diss and Tell includes hundreds of quotations, snipes, and off-the-cuff remarks. The author divides the book into six sections, covering everything from fellow celebrities and stars' families to lost loves and celebrity slugfests. All of this makes for riveting reading: Open to any page and you're instantly stuck in the down and dirty world of off-screen frankness, such as "How difficult can it be to fly an airplane? I mean, John Travolta learned how." -Graham Chapman of Monty Python
They're all here, from Robin Williams to Halle Berry. If anyone has anything good to say about anybody . . . you won't find it in these pages. But that's what makes Celebrity Diss and Tell such a good and cathartic read. These stars are only human, after all, and nobody can sparkle all the time.

Book Description
The Orlando Sentinel described The Grove Book of Hollywood as "a marvelous overview of the mythical world of Screenland through the eyes of those who observed it firsthand." In pieces by bemused outsiders like P. G. Wodehouse and Evelyn Waugh and consummate insiders like Jack Warner, Ben Hecht, and Budd Schulberg, it tells the story of Hollywood's birth as a dusty village outside L.A., through the blacklist, to its present-day role as a high-stakes cultural capital of power players, touchy egos, schlock, and genius. Full of priceless bits -- Jean Harlow's satire of young hopefuls, John Huston's fistfight with Errol Flynn, Frank Capra on working for Mack Sennett, and William Goldman on the ubiquitous Hollywood meeting -- The Grove Book of Hollywood is a must for anyone who loves movies. "A superb anthology.... A feast for those who love Hollywood and those who hate it." -- J. G. Ballard, The Observer (London) "Enchanting ... I marveled at [its] resourcefulness.... Have you gone out to buy this book yet?" -- David Thomson, Bookforum "....strange tribal rites, and tarnished idols of the celluloid jungles, the book is a feast." -- L. S. Klepp, Entertainment Weekly

myth.......2006-03-05
These are the stories of America's Myth Makers. If you want to understand Ancient Greece you go to Greek Mythology. If you want to understand America you go to Hollywood. This book collects the stories behind the myths in one glorious volume. There is nothing left to say except
thank you!
What was Hollywood REALLY like? Read this!!!.......2003-01-03
OK---I am taking the trouble to write a review because Where Else are you going to read a story about Ginger Rogers going to another studio to use the bathroom? Where Else are you going to read a story about Joan Crawford seducing a young Jackie Cooper? Or a wonderful, colorful account of a dinner party at San Simeon, complete with what people talked about. Or why "Over the Rainbow" almost got left out of The Wizard of Oz. Don't get me wrong--this isn't full of dirt. It is an intelligent, well-balanced view of the people and doings that make show business the true business it is! It is like meeting an old cameraman or other studio worker who "knew 'em all" and lived to tell YOU about it. Run, do not walk to the checkout and get a copy of this book today!
Gathers over 150 recollections.......2001-03-02
The Grove Book Of Hollywood gathers over 150 recollections taken from magazine articles, production logs, and oral histories alike, providing a decade-by-decade timeline of some of Hollywood's most ambitious stars and screenwriters. The use of personal recollections offers a more intimate view of Hollywood than an outsider's report could generate, providing an intriguing survey.
Book Description
In studying the history of the vernacular in worship beginning with the Christian Scriptures, Dynamic Equivalence uncovers the power of a living language to transform communities of faith.
How we pray when we come together for common worship has always been significant, but the issue of liturgical language received unprecedented attention in the twentieth century when Latin Rite Roman Catholic worship was opened to the vernacular at Vatican II. Worshiping in one's native tongue continues to be of issue as the churches debate over what type of vernacular should be employed.
Dynamic Equivalence traces the history of liturgical language in the Western Christian tradition as a dynamic and living reality. Particular attention is paid to the twentieth-century Vernacular Society within the United States and how the vernacular issue was treated at Vatican II, especially within an ecumenical context.
The first chapter offers a short history of the vernacular from the first century through the twentieth. The second and third chapters contain a significant amount of archival material, much of which has never been published before. These chapters tell the story of a mixed group of Catholic laity and clergy dedicated to promoting the vernacular during the first half of the twentieth century. Chapter Four begins with a survey of vernacular promotion in the Reformation itself, explores the issue of vernacular worship as an instrument of ecumenical hospitality and concludes with some examples of ecumenical liturgical cooperation in the years immediately preceding the Council. The final chapter treats the vernacular debate at the Council with attention to the Vernacular Society's role in helping with the implementation of the vernacular.
Chapters are "A Brief History of the Vernacular," "The Origins of the Vernacular Society: 1946-1956," "Pressure for the Vernacular Mounts: 1956-1962," "Vernacular Worship and Ecumenical Exchange," "Vatican II and the Vindication of the Vernacular: 1962-1965."

Customer Reviews:
Good book on the life of Doris Humphrey.......2000-08-13
Those interested in and learning the infamous Humphrey-Weidman technique in modern dance get a good overview of the life of Doris Humphrey. The book also has many photos of this incredibly beautiful woman, who not only originated one of the most original techniques of modern dance in the 20th century, but also was a dance theoreticain/philosopher. The only disappointing aspect of the book was that one interested in the influence of the philosopher Friedrich Neitzsche on her dance technique will find only a brief discussion. But the book is fascinating reading, and after reading it one feels even more admiration for this remarkable woman and dancer.

Roy H. Williams where are the Secret Formulas to the Wizard of Ads?.......2007-01-29
Hey Roy Williams, where are the "Secret Formulas" to the Wizard of Ads? After reading the first book by Roy H. Williams (The Wizard of Ads) I needed to know more and my mind was asking more questions than ever.
Take me in depth Roy. Show me the behind the scenes things and reveal to me "how Broca works", show me how to "See my customer Real" and help me to explore how "Second-Hand Knowledge" works.
If you're into Sales, Marketing, Advertising or Business you want to know more than the details of how to run a business but more importantly you need to know how to inspire a customer to stay with you. As one great thinker said the only reason why we are in business is to keep or maintain a customer.
So do words have energy? And if they do how do I use them in an ethical way that helps my customers appreciate my sincere disire to take good care of them? Roy H. Williams shows us how to do this through 100 new stories that show you more in-depth SECRETS. The real Formulas for how things work psychologically, physiologically, emotionalogically and spiritualogically. The last two words I created after much meditation on Roys overall methodology.
The Secret Path to miraculous Ads is included in this follow-up where Roy reveals the styles of writing that limit reaching the emotional state of the customer. He breaks it down into three writing styles...Journalism, Creative Writing, and Poetry/lyricism. The last having the most powerful effect by far on your customers most unique way to receive new information.
Whatever you're looking to gain from a benefical stand point is here. This book is a great follow-up book to The Wizard of Ads. I'm still using Secret Formulas...re-reading it and practicing the Secret Formulas.
Is there anything else I can do for you?
Your Servant,
Deremiah, *CPE
A light in the darkness.......2007-01-18
You can tell that Roy Williams has served time in the real life trenches of the ad game. There are nuggets of gold nestled within the stories he shares in this book.
This is not a "step by step" color by numbers kind of book. It's one that shares the lessons learned by the telling of parables. If you have a solid background in marketing and advertising, then this is great read. If you're looking for a marketing primer, then this is not the book for you.
Broadcast Media isn't always the best advertising medium........2006-03-01
A very insightful book on advertising. However, I am surprised that Mr. Williams bothered to put it in print since he apparently believes the only way to advertise is through broadcast or intrusive media (radio and television). Intrusive media is just that. That is why consumers often turn the station on their radio and televisions when the programming they are listening to or watching is interupted by advertising. Print advertising is non-intrusive and therefore looked upon by choice by the consumer. An effective advertising campaign can be accomplished by many different mediums and most often with a mix of more than one.
Huh! No Secrets Here.......2005-09-25
I have read many books relating to ads & advertising and found this one to contain no value, no guidance, no tips and NO SECRETS.
Many old tales and short quotes that offered no insight to modern day marketing and advertising.
There are many good books out there, unfortunately for me and my pocketbook this is not one of them.
Wonderful words from the Wizard!.......2003-01-08
Roy Williams and his series of books were introduced to me by a radio station that I advertize with. The information contained within these pages have been nothing less that inspirational! I have never been in a better position to assist my dealers in making marketing decisions and develop local ads. I can't wait for the day that I can afford to visit the Wizard Acadamy and learn as much as I can!
