Mashburn creates some of the best reference books on postcards there are, no question about it. And this book is a powerful addition to any deltiologist's library, especially if they have an interest in postcards that depict African Americans.
As always, Mashburn goes out of his way to provide value. This book contains over 380 pages of information, thousands of black and white photographs, a wonderful index, and price guides. The guide includes information on the following topics: Artist Signed; Unsigned Artists; Advertising; Real Life; Real Photos; Sports; Entertainers; Topicals; Social History; and Lynchings.
All in all this book is a must-have for any serious postcard collector or dealer. It's full of useful information, and wonderful just to sit and look through at the many fabulous cards shown. Don't hesitate to buy this book!

This is the very best reference book available under $200. This updated issue is beautiful, includes price estimates of buttons featured, and is the reference book every Button Collector owns. I like this book as there are many illustrations and after reading the book I had a deeper understanding of buttons. This is an informative book and I would encourage those who are interested in collecting buttons and those advance collecters to read it. Another book similiar to it and I would reccommend is Antique & Collectible Buttons : Identification and Values.

A must have for the serious collector of political buttons.......1999-05-31
Ted Hake's three book series has become the standard by which all others are judged. This first book of political collectibles is the most comprehensive book of it's kind in existence. Life size photographs and accurate pricing for each item make this book relatively easy to use. The only drawback is that the first edition (now out of print) was in color. Nevertheless, even black and white photos make identification of collectibles a cinch. For the serious and committed collector, you should buy all three books. Together, they make the most complete valuation recording in existence for political collectables. A must have reference work.

Flawed Release of a Good Story.......2006-10-28
Fullmetal Alchemist is arguably one of the best titles out right now, and the story in this particular volume is when it starts to really take off. The only problem, and the one I knocked a star off because of, is the fact that Viz decided to quietly censor the content of this book for religious imagery, a fact they do not mention in this release. It's a relatively minor edit, but stains an otherwise perfect release.
More characters and mystery........2006-08-09
This is probably the best installment to date. It adds more characters but tells us little about them, only adding to the evergrowing shroud of mystery that surrounds the Elric brothers. King Bradley, leader of the military, has revealed himself as a homunclus working for a mysterious "father" whose true identity is yet to be unveiled. A small girl named Mei, and a prince named Lin, both hail from the country of Xing and wish to learn alchemy from Edward Elric. These are all characters that we've only touched upon and are sure to go deeper into their character as more volumes arise. I for one, couldn't be more overjoyed by that fact.
VISITORS FROM XING.......2006-07-05
As Volume 8 opens, Greed and his chimerae continue to be wiped out by military forces led by King Bradley, who appears to be a Homunculus himself. Is even Greed's carbon "Ultimate Shield" up to the task of defeating Bradley's flashing swords and "Ultimate Eye"? And which side will Ed and Al be on as they see all this blood being spilled around them? Meanwhile, Mustang and his crew get a break into their investigation into secret military experiments as they capture Barry the Chopper, a former serial killer whose soul was bonded to a suit of armor much like Alphonse. Two new characters emerge on the scene out of the far eastern country of Xing from two different walks of life. Both of them claim to be seeking the secret of immortality. Mei-Chan is a young girl whose skill with alchemy seems on a par with Ed and is accompanied by a miniature panda bear! The other is a prince named Ling, who travels in the company of fighting ninja and claims to be after the Philosopher's Stone, even though he doesn't know anything about alchemy.
What I like about this series now is that since last volume it has completely branched off from the anime series, so this storyline and characters are something I haven't seen. The mysterious mechanations of the Homunculi becomes more and more suspenseful as I wonder what their real plans are and how all these conflicts are going to end, especially with them in control of everything the military is doing. It's kinda like an Emperor Palpatine situation a la Revenge of the Sith, where the real enemy is actually running the whole show. I think one of the strengths of this manga is the humor. Arakawa never takes her book too seriously. The anime at times fills itself up with too much angst and tragedy while the manga takes a more balanced approach. The art is great and I'm excited to find out how the new Eastern characters are going to fit into the plot.

If you've forgotten how to, pick up this book and learn to take time out of life to reward yourself for surviving another day. I absolutely LOVE this book. I have purchased numerous copies to give to friends as gifts, and they have all loved it as well. The suggestions and ideas are easy to do and.....they are fun! You can do most of these things alone (perfect for single girls like me! ) or with someone special, whether it's your girlfriends you've known for years or the special significant other in your life at the time. There are even a few recipes to help you along in your adventures. I would highly recommend this book to anyone!

Since 1992, John Boorman and friends have put together Projections, a yearly forum where filmmakers from all disciplines write about their craft. Projections 4 was published in 1995, to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the first public exhibition of the Lumiere Brothers' new invention, Le Cinematograph.
This year's edition is split into seventeen articles divided into six sections. The Centenary begins with a transcript of a 1948 interview with Louis Lumiere, followed by what has perennially been my favorite continuing section, The Burning Question. This year's question, "In this year, when we celebrate 100 years of cinemas, what is the greatest gift and worst legacy of the movies?", is answered by 16 directors from all around the world, whose careers span the past half century. Some answers are short and to the point, while more than one filmmaker spends pages clarifying their viewpoint. Then Martin Scorsese talks about his former fears of shooting anamorphically.
The Journal. Every year, Boorman recruits a director to keep a copious diary recounting their previous year. In 1994, Boorman asked writer/director James Toback, whose year started out with a large quake in Los Angeles and proceeded to go downhill from there.
The Career talks to Arthur Penn and Ken Burns about their years struggling to maintain their individual vision.
The Process is rather self explanatory. Six articles about filmmaking from various points of view. The first two cover Oscar winning screenwriter Leslie Howard's tumultuous Hollywood career, in his own words. We then move to a dilapidated theatre in New York, where Louis Malle, Andre Gregory and the cast of "Vanya on 42nd Street" offer their views on making this unique movie. Sound design guru Walter Murch speaks about the early days of American Zoetrope and sound in cinema. From the Malaysian set of Beyond Rangoon, John Boorman has a great exchange with Eddie Fowler, longtime prop master to David Lean. This section ends with cinematographer John Seale comparing his collaborative efforts with many of his directors.
Gotta Dance includes what became one of Gene Kelly's last discussions about the art of choreography in film. Sally Potter adds her thoughts about dance in cinema, during post production for her own "The Tango Lesson".
Farewell sums up the lives of two artists who were lost in 1994, Federico Fellini and Sandy Dennis. The book ends with Lindsey Anderson's summation of working with John Ford on The Quiet Man.
I bought the first Projections book on the recommendation of a filmmaker friend shortly after its release. I have pre-ordered every issue since, often before I even knew what the contents would entail in any particular year. The entire series has consistently been that good.
If you are a major film fan or a budding filmmaker, this series must be on your bookshelf. Although, if you are like me, they'll never spend much time on the bookshelf.

As a future educator I believe this book is an excellent source for anyone who has or teaches children. The terminology is easy to follow and the whole layout of the book is great. It not only gives you wonderful ideas on using music with your child but it shows you. I believe the revised edition should include prenatal music nurturing as a chapter and not just an appendix in the back along with a CD of some of the recordings. This is definitely a book I will use over and over again. I recommend this book 100%.

I am currently using this book in an Early Childhood Music class in Clermont, FL. This book is full of countless ideas for using music with young children. It is written in terminology that is easy to read and understand. I also believe that prenatal chapter needs to be included since music starts before birth, and a CD with examples of the music for the labs would be very helpful for those that are not taking the class. I have recommended this book to parents with young children.

These brain twisters offer something all ages can enjoy doing alone or together.
Yeah, I know, we buy this for the kids, but then we ourselves end up just as happy to solve the puzzles--kinda like the ol' story of the model train set that the father loves to set up!
These are great brain exercises. While you're finding patterns and working with visual spatial cues, you're also building connections in the brain, making neurodevelopmental connections based on the perceptual discrimination, etc. required.
These are also great socializing ice-breakers--when you or your kids learn a few, all you need is a few toothpicks or the like, and you've got puzzles in mind that you can set up anywhere.

I've used the first volume with my after-school class and the kids really enjoy these. The book is designed for a parent or teacher to set up the games and it is not a workbook that the kids can use alone - a plus if you are looking to spend some quality time with your child. The stick games help kids develop visual and conceptuial skills in a fun and clever way.

Accountability.......2006-03-17
This book provides a basis for accountability in making trades as you do. I found the psychological part the best. It is somewhat hard to implement the basic structure required by the author for me personally. However it all rings truth in it's wording. This is a work book and therefore leads the reader through a series of questions to let you know how good you understand the basic fundamentals prescribed of his book "Trading For A Living".
It has increased awareness and led me to stop making the same repetitive mistakes. And that is the basis for success in trading.

What is your learning style? If you don't trust that you know something until you've taken a test, this book can help. It does an excellent job of pulling out the key topics and quizzing you on them. There are no 'silly' questions here--only the important stuff. On the other hand, if you like to read and underline, then return to the text when you are actually 'doing' the activity, then this book is probably a waste of money. One nit complaint: some of the labeling of chart features is a bit unclear. Since it is sometimes tough to tell which letter goes with which feature, answering some questions is difficult, even when you know the material.

In order for this book to work you need to have the initial Trading for a Living. With both books together you will begin to have all of the necessary tools to conquer the most persistent troublemaker of the market...yourself.
In 200 questions you will learn a lot about yourself, your motives, and most of all your personality. This is where Dr.Elder's background shine. In order to conquer the markets you must conquer yourself.
After being involved with futures trading for 11 years and writing several books on the subject I still find books like Dr.Elder's inspirational and mentally clarifying.
