Book Description
Bringing together the finest artwork produced by skateboarders around the world, this second volume of skater-art follows on the successful first book Concrete to Canvas.
Since the first time a graphic was hand-drawn onto a board, there has been a deep-rooted connection between skateboarding and art. The culture of skating is a very creative and visual one, with by-products such as board graphics, videos, stickers, magazines, and clothing. As more skater-artists emerge, skateboard magazines feature more artwork on their pages, and there is an increasing number of exhibitions focusing on skater-art.
Each artist's work is highly individual and distinctive, and there is a huge variety in genre, style, method, medium, subject matter, inspiration, and influence. The work featured includes digital art, street art, fine art, paintings, drawings, doodles, illustration, and installation.

Unlike your Standard Pokemon Story.......2005-12-19
This manga is unlike the standard Pokemon story. We all know about the show where Ash meets somebody new, Team Rocket comes, etc. That's getting old! This manga is offering something new!
This manga is based off Pokemon Red and Pokemon Green (a.k.a. Pokemon Blue in America). The main character is Red, based off the main character in the games. His rival is Green (a.k.a. Blue in America), based off the rival in the games.
Red, like Ash, wants to become a Pokemon Champion, but he has Team Rocket to face. However, unlike the anime, Team Rocket is much more clever, much more evil in this manga. And that right there is an enjoyable aspect of this manga.
If you like Pokemon, then you'll love Pokemon Adventures.
Pokemon Adventures.......2003-07-23
This type of pokemon manga is my favorite because it's fun, it's clean, and it is enjoyable. Especially if you have played the original pokemon gameboy games, then you will get the most out of it.
GREAT!!!.......2003-05-22
This is the first one that I have read. It's really, really great. Instead of the usual Ash, Gary, Misty and Brock from the anime this book gives a whole new twist. The the hero being Red and his rival being Blue. In my opinion it's a whole lot than the anime. This manga is more non-childish and give the Pokemon world a whole new twist. Instead of like the anime where Ash gets a Pikachu, Red starts with a Poliwag which is actually a Poliwhirl. Red is more mature and so is Blue. The rivalry is actually intense. Blue actually has something to prove and his ego isn't that bad. The artwork is pretty good and so is the storyline. Instead of the slow moving pace in the anime, this book has a more quickened pace making you want more. All and all this is great. I would recommand everyone to buy it.
Pokemon Rules!!!.......2002-11-24
This is alot better than the tv show!! Red is alot smarter than Ash!!!!I just wish they had the new pkmn in it.....
Red and Pikachu rule!.......2002-06-26
This comic book has many engaging adventures, some of which any kid can relate to--like having money problems! The pictures are drawn with skill and appealing style, while they don't look too much like the orginal Ash and Pikachu. In fact, if you're getting tired of them, you'll enjoy this book! The characters and plot are mainly from the Red Pokemon Gameboy game, so if you enjoyed playing that, you really should read this graphic novel!
Book Description
Welcome to the world of the Vinyl Caf. Meet Dave, the owner of the world's smallest record store. Meet his pal, Kenny Wong, who runs Wong's Scottish Meat Pies. Meet Dave's wife and their children who, along with everyone else in town, bump and stumble through a hilarious year of mistakes, miscues, misunderstandings, and muddle.
Whether it's the mystery of sending kids to camp, the dangers of putting up Christmas lights, or the potential for mayhem at the grocery store, in the hands of humorist and master storyteller Stuart McLean the chaotic melody of daily life is underscored by the harmonious sounds of family, friends, and neighbors.

From a high schooler.......2006-06-14
I picked this book out of a list given to me by my 12th grade english teacher. After searching everywhere i ordered it off amazon and am very pleased i did. it is an amazingly light, funny story about a 'stock' family that is a great summer read. i recommend it to both guys and girls, great book!
Entertaining and heartwarming.......2004-10-07
I can see why Stuart McLean is one of Canada's beloved storytellers through the warmth, humanity and humor of his stories. My favorite stories came early in the book, one of them being "Turkey" which starts off both the book and the Winter section. The description of the turkey before it was roasted had me and my husband howling with laughter. Another favorite is the one about the birthday party, especially the scene where Dave tries to frost the cake while it is still warm. My husband recently made the same mistake when he was frosting my birthday cake. I think there is enough depth to this collection of stories that most any one can come away with a favorite story or at least a favorite scene.
A great diversion from ..........2002-12-02
... a very ordinary family. Now, I don't mean ordinary in the boring sense of the term, quite the contrary. This is a collection of short stories spanning a year in the lives of a middle-class family. Everyone will be able to recognize themselves or others in these people to whom funny things tend to happen.
A quick read that will have you smiling (and giggling) on the bus.
You won't regret picking it up, and will look for McLean's other collections of stories about this wonderful family upon completing it.
Stuart McLean is *the* Canadian Humourist..........2001-07-02
In "Home from the Vinyl Cafe," Stuart McLean gives us a rousing journey of one year in the life of Dave, Morley, Sam and Stephanie. From one Christmas to the next, we step in an check up on the family a few times each season, with such fantastic stories as "Dave Cooks the Turkey," and "School Days." Rousing, amusing and touching in turn, McLean's tales are as much a joy to read as they are to listen to.
Now, if you have no idea who I'm talking about, you're in for a real treat. Stuart McLean is a humourist who speaks on the radio twice a week with his wonderful Canadian prose short narratives, which always manage to make me laugh out loud. I've bought a few of his tape collections so I can listen to them whenever I'd like; he's that good. You follow the lives of this small family through their idiosyncratic - and wonderfully Canadian - trials and laughs throughout this book.
Stephen Leacock award winner McLean has put together a wonderful collection here, and if you can get a copy, do.
It is important to note that this book is not out of print, it is merely published in Canada. You could get it through a Canadian source with no troubles.
An hilarious accounting of a year in the life..........2000-10-08
McLean's book, 'Home from the Vinyl Cafe,' is a hoot from start to finish. It's a sorry day in Canada that this title is now out of print, it really is. McLean's a national treasure of humour.
If you do manage to find this title (I've got my fingers crossed for you), then beware - do not read this while on public transport or eating out. You'll be laughing out loud, long and hard, from the get-go.
The opening sequence is one of the funniest pieces of prose I've read in a long time; you will never look at Christmas dinner in the same light again.
McLean has an easy-going, conversational writing style that engages the reader immediately - he draws you in as a willing voyeur, anticipating the next hilarious calamity to strike the book's protagonist.
If you live in the north climes where it gets cold at night, the final sequence in the book will harken back your days of daring... ever stick your tongue to cold metal? Not so funny for the poor soul who dares such trickery, hilarious for those who're watching.
This book gets a big thumbs up - it's not a challenging read, but it's tremendous fun nonetheless!

Very, very funny. I am going to buy more cd's by Stuart Mclean.
A Must Have!.......2006-05-29
The Vinyl Cafe by Stuart McLean is great! Not only did the CD keep me calm during my hour commute but it made the horrible drive enjoyable, laughing all the way home...
Stuart is a master story teller! Hours melt away listening..........2006-01-21
In a style and manner simular to Garrison Keillor's Lake Wobegon tales, Stuart McLean spins wonderful yarns with lucid detail and color. My wife and I listened to this CD while making a cross country trip and the hours melted away....
Everything I hoped for.......2005-09-21
These "stories" are just as funny as I hoped. I heard one on CBC while in Canada, immediately went to look for them, and bought 2 sets. All are hilarious.
Highly recommended.

I Love A Good Story.......2006-02-25
I just wish I had one to tell you. You see, I bought this for my wife. It was to be a Valentines Day present to go along with a nice red Rose. The package arrived in plenty of time. I got it wrapped up and had a fresh red Rose to go with it. She always listens to the Vinyl Cafe' on her car radio, so I thought that she could enjoy this gift anytime she wanted. Well here it is, weeks later, and she hasn't even opened it.
You can see above that I gave this product 5 stars. I did that because I have heard the Vinyl Cafe' on the radio and it is great. Amazon also gets 5 stars from me as when I tried to buy this CD directly from the Vinyl Cafe' all I ever got was a recording that said they weren't answering their phones. (Not a good plan for a business)
Anyway, I'm hoping that some day in the future my wife will discover her un-opened gift, still laying on the shelf in the Den, and be surprised all over again. She will open it and hear a great story teller.
I, in the mean time, will try and find the perfect gift for her birthday.
Any suggestions?

Everyone laughs.......2007-01-06
We heard Polly Anderson's Christmas Party first on a CD of Christmas music belonging to one of our college age daughters, then bought this out of curiosity. I loved it, my husband loved it, our daughters loved it, and my mother-in-law loved it. I even lent it to a co-worker who needed a good laugh and he loved it. Keep it in your car for a sure-fire mood-lifter on your way home from a hard day at the office as Dave and Morley navigate the trials of parenthood. Suitable for family listening.
Great Listening! You won't stop laughing!.......2007-01-05
We first heard Stuart McLean on a CD of Christmas music. We had to listen to his story 3 times straight becuase we all laughed so hard and loud we would miss parts of the story. This CD has that story, "Polly Anderson's Christmas Party." In addition, when you listen to the other stories before "Polly" then you will get some of the content of this story. Every story from beginning to end is a HOOT! We listen to his stories over and over again. They are just as good the 5th time around as they were the first. We bought all his other CD's, as well. Highly recommended!

Small town Canada writ large!.......2006-09-23
In Stories From the Vinyl Café, Stuart McLean has presented a picture of Canadian life, culture and values that will recall Garrison Keillor's successful portrayal of life in small town America in "Lake Wobegon Days".
There's no thread or plot to speak of - only a randomly collected grouping of fictional short stories that are brilliantly distilled from McLean's singularly astute observations of Canadian people as a skilled journalist. There's a father struggling to cope with his teenage daughter who wants to get a tattoo; the wife who can't figure out how to tell her husband that she was collared for shop-lifting; the difficulties of buying a jock strap; the lighter side of blood pressure machines in the local pharmacy; the man who works his knickers into a frenzied knot over a neighbour he fancies stole his favourite shirt off their clothesline; the young boys wrestling with the moral dilemma of finding $2300 in an envelope in front of the local bank machine; and many more.
If these sound inane, I can't help but agree! But what better way to reflect the realities of our daily lives?
McLean's mastery of story-telling and dialogue hits the Canadian nail right on the head with a writing style that is at once witty, quirky, heart-warming, earnest, humorous, compelling and utterly charming! I should have read this years ago.

Great stories about marriage.......2004-04-15
I loved this book. I've had it on my shelf for months and I wish I would have cracked it open sooner if I had known how funny it was. Keep this one in your purse, these little 5 page stories about life, family and marriage will make standing in line so much more enjoyable. I'll never look at blood pressure machine in the pharmacy without laughing again.
Comedically Touching.......2002-10-22
I'll admit it, this was the first book by Stuart McLean that I had ever read, and I never put it down. Each short story was a twist of new comedic surprise. What I liked most about this collection of short stories, is that each one stems from the last. I also enjoyed reading about a Canadian family, and about thier hectic lifes in rural Ottawa. I immidiatly beagn reading Home from the Vynil Cafe, by Stuart McLean, after I had finished Stories from the Vynil Cafe. The only draw back I can find with this book, is that it is simply too short! I was devestated when my page turner had no more pages to turn.
I could have died laughing.......2002-02-22
I was tootaling along in my car listening for the first time to an audio tape of Stuart McLean reading his Stories from the Vinyl Cafe. I almost ran off the road because I was laughing so hard.
Every time I hear the story of the jock strap I start to howl all over again. And so it is with so many of his stories.
I want to send the tapes to my children and friends and particularly, my enemies. I am sure they will not think so badly of someone who sent them such merriment.[...]
A poor example of fiction, masquerading as fact........1999-10-23
After reading this text I was physically sick in several locations of my local shopping centre. Needless to say, the book needs a lot more editing before it could pass as a script for any high school assessment, and I find it hard to believe that it has sold more than ten thousand copies in the United States alone. Had I been the publisher, as I wish I had been, I would have recommended a total overhall of the story-line as well as the total removal of some of the weak characters that are the basis of the novel. I like death metal.

A Must for Berlioz Fans.......2007-02-03
Berlioz fans probably know that the composer was also a music reviewer and that he wrote famous memoirs. But readers may be surprized to find how well he was able to depict even some small moments from his life. He is very focused on his feelings and is a master of conveying them. A true romantic. Read the chapter about the re-burial of his first wife and be amazed. Reality is often more fascinating than fiction!

GOOD BOOK-I'd recommend it to any Mike Aulby fan.......1998-03-12
The book had a lot of good information-I think it could have gone more into depth on what it's like out on tour. How the pressure effects the players more, how they survive out there-or don't. I think alot of what was said was repeated by different people in different parts of the book-granted alot of people that deal with Mike have a lot of the same good memories, but I think there was too much repetition in some parts. I wish Mike had gone more into detail what he was feeling when he shot his first 300-I had my first this year-and I could tell you heartbeat by heartbeat what it was like. Overall I liked the book-now my 10 year old son is reading it. My family are all fans of Mike Aulby-and have met him in person.

What You Didn't Know You Didn't Know........2002-04-17
Earl Anthony has managed to pack so much information into this book it's really hard to know where to start this review.
Let's concentrate on something that had never occured to me to ask my coach, among many others covered in this book.
What is lift? Here was the answer in black and white. It was also easy to follow the concept that Earl was trying to get across. Additionally, the simple demonstration that Earl uses in the book really makes the concept even more lucid. I finally see good rotation on my ball, and has it ever made a difference in how well the ball hits the pocket!
This aspect of the game that is so important for anyone who is just learning to throw a hook. Why was it so well kept a secret? It wasn't but I didn't think to ask, duh!!!
This book belongs on any bowling fans library shelves.
Review of Winning Bowling, by Earl Anthony.......2000-03-17
Earl Anthony's book, Winning Bowling, has several positivepoints. First, I found his concept of spare shooting in this bookvery helpful. Anthony outlines in shooting spares four basicpositions: Strike Position (which also corresponds to Crossover Line), Left Center, Far Left, and Far Right. Anthony essentially takes samples of each spare group and demonstrates what foot position and angle would maximize conversion. I have applied this to my technique, and I have been having greater spare conversion success. However, I found his discussion of shooting Strike Angles, and in particular the first Arrow Angle, somewhat unclear. This book is not one which will aid you in adjusting to given lane conditions, but rather, how to execute each kind of strike shot. In the book, there is no discussion of oily or dry lane conditions. Also useful are the "super secrets", and his description of faults in the swing. I discovered from this book that one of the major faults in my own swing was side-wheeling, and this discovery helped me to swing the ball straighter, as well as save the skin on my thumb! For the advanced bowler, it may not have as much pertinent information, but for the beginning and intermediate bowler wanting to understand the swing a bit better, it is a good book to have on the shelf.
Basic Guides of Bowling.......1998-09-21
This book entirely is a book more for a beginner. Yes,learning progress starts from the basic however, if more writing for improving to higher level average bowlers will be a good credit. Not much pictures and illustrations.

Another good book for beginners.......1998-06-12
Nice book for beginners. Good anecdotes from Anthony which are fun to read.
A couple of nice tips about varying the action on the ball through the armswing and turning the sliding foot. Some nice vintage reverse shots of Anthony as a right hander.
If you're read one of Dawson Taylor's other books, you've pretty well read this one, except for the aforementioned action tips.

For novices.......2007-09-28
I looked forward with anticipation to gathering some great tips to add to my training repetoire. Unfortunately, I found the book to be incredibly repetitious and elementary. How many different ways can one put ideas on a sticky note and share with the person beside them? A disappointment.
Fun, effective and complete!.......2007-08-18
The first time I used the ideas presented in Sharon's book in a training, I received fantastic feedback!
The active learning strategies are quick, fun, and surprisingly effective.
As both a trainer and a high school teacher, I particularly appreciate the holistic "Learning Compass" idea which ensures the audience will connect to, remember, and use the new material.
The Ten-Minute Trainer is a complete, consistent, and clear handbook that will guide a presenter or teacher into providing rich, effective, and meaningful trainings.
Good material.......2007-07-14
Bowman's book is a good resource for teachers and presenters alike. Some of the material is highly usable for teachers but some is less so. I did like the fact that the book explains that it was meant to be used as each person needs it. If you are a developed and experienced presenter/ teacher, it encourages you to skip the introductory stuff and move on to the more advanced material. For that alone, the author gained a great deal of credibility from me from the first time I opened the book.
The Ten-Minute Trainer.......2007-07-12
I'm always looking for good tips to include in my "Train the Trainer" classes. This book was a complete waste of my money. I would not recommend to anyone - even a complete novice
Great ways to increase participation and interest in any class.......2007-07-06
I am writing this message for my Husband, D. Bowman. "I am a community college instructor of over 20 years for Business and Accounting.....I was greatly impressed how applying some of these very simple ideas made some less appealing subject matters interesting, greatly increased class participation, and as an accountant would say, improved the bottom line meaning student grades went up.
If I can use it effectively.....any one can".
Thanks for your time.
