This is really a great book for cartoon drawers. Great for all ages. You will enjoy this book.

5 out of 5 stars This book is the dogs bark! no cats allowed.......2001-07-30

I bought this book on here(Amazon.com) a few months ago and, So far this is the best book I have come across on how to draw cartoon dogs and puppies. It has everything you need to know like: in one section each page has a diffrent kind of breed like the, Cocker Spaniel, Chow Chow, German Shepherd,or Chihuahua just to name a few. it has dog expressions, how to draw puppies and wolves, foxies, then at the end of the book it shows you how to draw dogs in human form, and has costumes you can look off of. this book has nothing but fun in it and entertains you for hours! its also great when you have kids over or if its a raining day. My book's pages are always open, someone in my house is always useing it, It's so worth the buy, and its cheap too. Buy it!

5 out of 5 stars cool.......2001-06-07

this is a cool book. i wish it had more breeds, though. at the end it goes wacky with tips on how to make dogs appear more human. the dobes look awsome(Dobermans are my fav. breed.)

5 out of 5 stars A magnum opus for all dog lovers!.......1999-08-21

Dogs are the best and most common animals that are drawn by countless cartoonists. This book is without a doubt, the ultimate in canine cartoon art! It has easy to follow instructions on drawing angry Dobermans, to sleek collies, to feral wolves. Not only does Christopher Hart tell you how to draw the dog, but he also includes tips and pointers on the many expressions and roles capable of cartoon dogs.

5 out of 5 stars Great for art and dog lovers........1999-07-05

Even though I own this book and keep it on my bookshelf at home, everytime I run into it at a store I always have to pick it up and look through it. Hart does it once again but this time focuses on dogs and dogs alone. He covers all dogs from the common mutt to the great English Bulldog. After you have read this book once at a library or at a store, you will have this great temptation to buy it. Once you start reading it and looking at the great pictures you will never want to put it down. Adam.

Book Description

Self-adornment (or its stern refusal) has been an unquenchable human impulse in all eras and places. From the toga to the little black dress, Tobi Tobias considers no less than the entire history of the human struggle with fashion by juxtaposing observations from philosophers, writers, and designers-from Plato to Coco Chanel-so that the authors speak to each other about the power of fashion. Oscar Wilde: "One should either be a work of art, or wear a work of art." Jane Austen: "Dress is at all times a frivolous distinction, and excessive solicitude about it often destroys its own aim." From literature high and low, ancient and modern, Obsessed by Dress includes quotations from Dorothy Parker, Marcel Proust, Ru Paul, Mark Twain, Virgil, Virginia Woolf, and many others. Arranged with incomparable flair, these quotes both delight and challenge us to consider the role of clothes in our lives as they assert views about beauty, vanity, identity, and self-expression. "Show me the clothes of a country and I can write its history."-Anatole France "Only God helps the badly dressed." -Spanish proverb "Probably every new and eagerly expected garment ever put on since clothes came in fell a trifle short of the wearer's expectation." -Charles Dickens "Beware of all enterprises that require new clothes."-Henry David Thoreau "Almost every man looks more so in a belted trench coat."-Sydney J. Harris "Brevity is the soul of lingerie." -Dorothy Parker "There is much to support the view that it is clothes that wear us and not we them; we may make them take the mould of arm or breast, but they would mould our hearts, our brains, our tongues to their liking."-Virginia Woolf

5 out of 5 stars Obsessed by these delicious quotes!.......2005-06-28

What a delicious selection of quotes about fashion! This book would really help me explain to people why I am obsessed with getting all dressed up in costumes, outfits and accessories. The gorgeous illustrations add to the charming cuteness of the book. These quotes show that there is real meaning and philosophy behind fashion and it's form of self-expression. Clothes and appearance really do make a difference!
An essential book for fashionistas. I shall cherish this book forever!

5 out of 5 stars Belated, Yet Elated.......2001-01-12

Toby Tobias' adorable book takes the questioning element out of my daily clothing puzzle. This morning, Edith Sitwell told me to 'be myself'! The in-put from great minds of the past is a radiant rainbow of fun, humor, delight and wit. Ballerina@Large.Dash-Dot

5 out of 5 stars Approbation.......2000-10-13

Tobi Tobias' new book, Obsessed by Dress, brings delight far beyond the sensual pleasure of holding a book that is exactly the right hand heft for the object itself. It corroborates ones joy of personal adornment through quotes from those who have the wit and style through the ages to say what you have been thinking and feeling all along about why have arrived a this particular persona. You become marvelous in your own eyes.

5 out of 5 stars A Must Read.......2000-10-12

One doesn't have to be a clothing aficionado to have a rewarding time with Tobi Tobias's "Obsessed By Dress." A small-size book with a biggness of content, "Obsessed" is alive with famous-person clothing quotes, meticulously researched by Tobias, reflecting her passion for Dress and great writing. Dickens, Proust, Virgil, Keats, Dior, Dorothy Parker, and RuPaul are among those quoted.

5 out of 5 stars For the well-dressed mind.......2000-10-10

This is a lovely book, full of wit and surprises. It's obvious that Tobias has chosen quotes from books with which she is familiar, rather than compiling a hodgepodge of witty bon mots, selected at random. The bonus, in addition to making one think about fashion and its place in civilization, is reminders of books one has read, or wants to read, or should.

Armed with a few quotes from this book and a little black dress, one could conquer any cocktail party in fine style!

First I would like to say that before a friend introduced me to Ranma I never would have even thought of reading a manga of any kind. Now after reading the first four books I find that I cant wait for the next two I ordered to get here so i can read them and order some more! Rumiko Takahashi is brilliant!

5 out of 5 stars The series continues with another excellent story.......2005-08-14

Ranma 1/2 (1988.) An anime/manga series by Rumiko Takahashi.

    INTRODUCTION:
Over the years I have been a pretty big anime fan. I'm not one of the people who obsesses over Japanese animation and models their whole life around it, but I still consider myself a fairly big fan of this stuff. In recent years I had pretty much abandoned my interest in anime in favor of my musical interests, but out of the blue, another series got me right back into anime - that series was Inuyasha. Inuyasha was created by Rumiko Takahashi, one of the finest anime/manga artists in all of Japan. Because I was so pleased with her work on Inuyasha, I wanted to check out some of her other work. Something I discovered is that it was her who created Ranma 1/2, one of the best-known anime/manga series out there. I had heard of the series before but never actually pursued an interest in it. And accordingly, I decided to check it out after much procrastination. If you want to see how Ranma measures up, keep on reading.

    STORYLINE:
A young man and his father have been traveling across China, training in martial arts against each other. Following this training expedition, his father takes him to Japan to stay with an old family friend - who has three daughters. Both his father and his old family friend want him to marry one of these daughters - and that's where the fun begins. It turns out that during their Chinese training expedtion, father and son alike were cursed during a sparring match in a hot spring region. The father's curse results in him changing between his human form and a panda bear with different water temperatures, and the son's curse results in him changing between a boy and a girl depending on water temperature! And once he starts attending school in Japan, the antics really get started. Between all the gender-transformation madness and the fact that one of the girls he lives with has a mean streak, will he ever be able to live the normal life he wants to?

    REVIEW:
I had known this series existed for nearly a decade, and put off checking it out for nearly that long. Boy, was that ever stupid! Ranma 1/2 is popular for several good reasons. Essentially, everything you could ever want from an anime/manga you can find in this series. You've got action, adventure, romance, comedy, and practically everything in between. The characters are well-developed and interesting, and made even better by the fact that Rumiko Takahashi doesn't make the all-too-common mistake of throwing too many characters at the reader at once. I still can't believe I put off checking out a series this good for so long. If you think the only thing worthwhile Takahashi ever did is Inuyasha, you are gravely mistaken. There's a reason Ranma 1/2 remains so popular long after Takahashi abandoned it in favor of the aforementioned series - it rocks. If you're an anime/manga fan of any degree, you must check Ranma out.

    EDITION NOTES:
Ranma 1/2, along with the other Takahashi mangas released in America, including Inuyasha, were released in the States by the Viz corporation. Viz is one of my favorite manga-translating companies, because they keep the price fairly low (ten bucks for a three-hundred-plus page manga is a pretty good deal), and furthermore they reverse all the artwork so that you can read it from left to right like most American comic books (the Japanese read from right to left, and mangas translated by another manga-translating company, Tokyo Pop, are left in their original right-to-left format.) All in all, the current edition of the Ranma mangas is good.

    OVERALL:
Overall, I've gotta say I'm pretty impressed with Ranma 1/2, and I could kick myself for putting off exploring it for so long. There is a good deal more to Takahashi than Inuyasha, and after giving the Ranma series a read, you'll see why (although I have to admit, if not for Takahashi's work on Inuyasha and my discovering that, I may never have discovered Ranma.) If you're an anime fan - and I don't care how big or small a fan you are - Ranma 1/2 is one of those series that is a must read.

4 out of 5 stars Of kitty cats and cat tongues.......2005-05-27

Ranma Saotome's life was complicated enough when he just had his turning-into-a-girl curse to deal with. But the fourth volume of Rumiko Takahashi's "Ranma 1/2," Ranma has a new slew of problems -- creepy stalkers, hidden phobias, martial-arts crones, and a girl who won't accept that "no" is his answer.

A new kid has arrived at school: stalkery, cadaverous Hikaru Gosunkugi, who harbors a crush on Akane and deep hatred of her fiancee Ranma. So he begins trying to find out what Ranma's hidden weakness is, but the fearless young martial artist claims there is nothing. Unfortunately, Gosunkugi is spying when Ranma's weakness is revealed -- cats -- and he tries to use it against him... with shocking results.

No sooner has Ranma recovered from his peculiar adventure than the tenacious Amazon Shampoo arrives again. Not only does she have a Jusenkyo curse of her own -- the cat -- but she has her wizened great-grandmother Cologne in tow. Cologne is determined to see Ranma marry Shampoo. And so, as Ranma squares off with a rejected suitor of Shampoo's, the old lady traps him in the body of a girl...

The fourth volume of his gender-bending action-romantic-comedy introduces some important characters. As well as bringing the incredibly persistent Shampoo back, it also introduces wizened-yet-feisty Cologne, and Mousse, a formidable master of hidden weapons. Or rather, he WOULD be formidable if he weren't legally blind.

The fourth volume also has the advantage of showing that Ranma isn't perfect -- up until now, the teenage martial-artist hasn't been slowed down at all, whether by lunatic athletes or ultra-strong romantic rivals. Giving him a raging cat-phobia -- so bad he passes out -- gives him more humanity. As Akane says, "It's cute to have a little weakness."

And speaking of Akane, she gets her first taste of romantic rivalry in this volume, when Shampoo sets up shop nearby. Though both Ranma and Akane claim that they don't even like each other, their mutual hostility towards any rivals is proof enough that they are starting to fall in love. If only Akane didn't freak out, and Ranma didn't insult her.

The fourth volume of "Ranma 1/2" is a pivotal one, adding even more characters to the romantic spiderweb that stretches all over the series. Weird, wild and funny.

5 out of 5 stars A great book if i say so myself.......2004-07-14

Where do i begin? Oh ok I somehhow reaveal my secret to everyone and my weakness

5 out of 5 stars More rivals, more problems.......2003-08-27

Well, Ranma gets not one, but two new rivals in this volume. The first is Hikaru Gosunkugi, who wants Ranma out of the way because he wants Akane. What does he do? He decides to offer his services to Kuno! The two join forces to discover Ranma's weak spot! But come on... Gosunkugi's incompetent! How could he learn it? Well, he does, and it turn out to be felines! But Gosunkugi is the least of Ranma's worries... it seems that a certain amazon from China isn't out of his hair like he thought! Shampoo's back, and has a curse of her own, which seeing as it's a cat one, it will probably dampen their relationship. Enter rival no. 2, Mousse, Shampoo's would-be lover, who challenges Ranma to a man to man fight! But with Shampoo's great-grandmother Cologne using a deadly pressure point touch on him, Ranma is stuck in girl form! Ranma now has to beat Mousse and get the cure for his condition! Things get hectic, ending in a cliffhanger, but it's really great stuff. Luckily, now that the book's been rereleased with a cheaper price, it's now more affordable to fans!

Some may search quotation compilations for wisdom or inspiration, but most crack these reference tomes looking for a laugh. Ned Sherrin has therefore done the world a favor by culling the witticisms and snide remarks from the vast quotation libraries, creating a volume completely dedicated to the funny remark. It's superbly browsable, but as the nearly 5,000 quotations are grouped by more than 100 themes, it's also a reference with practical applications. For a quip on consumerism, George Orwell comes through with, "Advertising is the rattling of a stick inside a swill bucket." Dean Martin opines about liquor: "You're not drunk if you can lie on the floor without holding on." Ronald Knox defines a baby as "a loud noise on one end and no sense of responsibility on the other," and for politics, Art Buchwald says of Richard Nixon, "I worship the quicksand he walks in." It's an irresistible dictionary. --Stephanie Gold

5 out of 5 stars When you need a great quip that fits the occasion ...look here!.......2006-03-23

This is a treasure trove of humor for all occasions. There are many books of quotations from all kinds of people and for all occasions and topics; but here the book keeps to what is humorous. It is a great source to have handy; but it also makes for wonderful light hearted reading ,just to start at the front and to keep going. It is organized several ways so that a quote on a subject or by personality is easy to find. It was published in Britain so has a lot of lines that are new over here.
      Here are a couple I enjoyed;

On being told that his fly buttons were undone,Winston Churchill commented;"No matter, dead birds do not leave the nest."

To her husband a chicken farmer in California, after a flash flood had wiped out his entire flock. "I told you to stick to ducks."

"Oh what a wonderous bird is the Pelican!
His beak holds more than his belican.
He takes in his beak, food enough for a week,
But I'll be damned if I know the helican."

"I opened it at page 96--the secret page,on which I
wrote my name to catch out borrowers and book sharks."
      Flan O'Brien

It'd be hard to find a better book of humorous quotes.

5 out of 5 stars Useful (and funny) reference for all.......2001-05-24

Collection of witty, funny, sarcastic or apprantely innocent quotations from famous and not so famous people.

Book is well organized. Quotations are divided into categories. These categories are given in alphabetical order starting from 'Actors and Acting, 'Advertising' to 'Writers and Writing' and 'Youth'. Surprisingly there is no topic with Z! You may also find some every interesting categories. Just to give you an idea there are quotations on 'Quotations', 'Insults and Invective' and 'Censorship'.

For every quotation there is, along with the author name, a brief description of where and when was it said/used and in some cases why was it used. That adds to the meaning of the quote.

Such as why Winston Churchill said 'And they say the old man's getting deaf as well'.

At the end of book, apart from the keywork index, there is also an author index, in case you need quotes from a particular person.

A useful book for adding spice to your speech and writing or just skim through it for literally pleasure.

Just to quote an example from the book: 'I know heaps of quotations, so I can always make quite a fair show of knowledge' -- O. Douglas

5 out of 5 stars An Excellent Resource, And A Great Read Too.......2001-02-21

A fantastic book of quotations, and the most comprehensive collection of humorous quotes I've yet to come across. The organization is excellent, with an adequate list of themes serving as the table of contents. Further aiding discovery of the perfect quote is an index of authors/sources, and a very well developed keyword index. Both of these supplemental indices are a bit confusing, but not overly so. They list the applicable theme and the numbered entry under that theme; there are no page numbers given. It's a bit confusing on the first few uses, after that it is simple.

The book is a fun, quick read as well, dense (with its relatively small print) with goodies from John Updike, Cheryl Tiegs, Henry Kissinger, Frank Zappa, George Foreman, P. J. O'Rourke, etc. I heartily recommend it.

      4 out of 5 stars A Great Quote Book.......2000-06-04

This book was great. I loved every quote. It had a lot of excellent ideas. I will make you laugh and teach you life leason's at the same time. One of my friends loaned it to me and I had to go out and get my own. If you like quotes then you will love this book.

                    Book Description

A candid account of the career and off-screen antics of Ireland's hottest young cinematic export.

Colin Farrell is one of Hollywood's A-list actors, but it's not just his box-office success that he's known for. Charming, quick-witted, and rebellious, the Irish lothario has filled a staggering number of column inches with his love of booze, women, and the L.A. party scene. The magnetic young actor first turned heads in the BBC television series Ballykissangel, establishing himself as a talent to watch, and it wasn't long before he was approached by the movie industry. He's since gone on to garner film credits that include Joel Schumacher's Phone Booth, Steven Spielberg's Minority Report, and Oliver Stone's Alexander, and his star will no doubt continue to rise with his upcoming role as Sonny Crockett in Michael Mann's much-anticipated film remake of Miami Vice.

1 out of 5 stars long winded and inaccurate.......2005-11-08

Jane Kelly attempts to pad her book with long drawn out explanations of the plot of every film Farrell has done. Page after page of plot and character descriptions that have little to do with the subject at hand. At other times she pads this book with long winded descriptions of some of the characters to enter in to Farrell's life. Do we need to read three pages about a soapopera star he had a two week affair with? Then there are the times she plays arm chair psychologist disecting farrell's childhood and relations with women with the insight of someone who has just completed their first week of psych 101. To top it all off there are glaring mistakes, most notably a caption reads "Colin is worried about his hair on the David Letterman show in 1993", yet it is Jay leno sitting at the desk in the picture. There are several misquotes that distort Farrell's intentions. This is a piss poor attempt even for a tabloid level biography. Save your money and read about the guy on the web if you are really that curious. All the quotes from him are from old interviews anyway.

I have to agree that this book is way too polite to the music industry in light of the Hollywood Babylon books by Kenneth Anger. It has great pictures though, from the early days right on through the current crop of bad boys (and girls). Because this is a British publication, it would benefit greatly from being proofread by an American to take out the glaring (minor) errors before a 4th edition is published. Don't let that deter you though. It dishes plenty of (watered down) dirt. Also, be aware that there is another cover than the one shown above. So, step on up and read all about it.

First, it is a beautiful book. The art and overall presentation is superb. The level of detail that some reviewers find lacking is not necessary for a book that is supposed to be a platform to work from. The only annoying thing, as with everything else in D&D, is that if you are a purist, there is always something else you "should" have, like the Monsters Compendium, besides all the rules books, etc; in other words, a huge wallet. But But the book is more than absolutely usable, with plenty of material to play a lifetime, good maps and sideline pointers and helpful tables. Very satisfied....

5 out of 5 stars Return to the best setting ever!.......2006-06-21

I was very unsettled when the old parent company TSR went under in 1997. I loved the lavish boxed set filled with maps and cards. The novels was what it was about for myself. I loved the Dragonlance Chronicles in the mid 1980s. Then I happened upon the old gray box called the Forgotten Realms. I thought it revolutionary as an open-ended adventure setting. I didnt have many friends interested in playing the game at the time, so I began reading and collecting the novels.

The stories are not classical liturature, however, they are a lot of fun! I collected all that was published until 1997. It seemed all was lost for old TSR. I decided to stop reading these stories as well. I honestly liked the Birthright setting more, but its lifespan was short indeed, a year or so. It only spawned a few novels.

In the short time of TSR's hiatus, the Forgotten Realms was uncovering its hidden past-Netheril, Cormanthyr, and others that seemed very enticing to me. I began playing the game itself upon my PC. Baldurs Gate, Icewind Dale were very familiar to me. The action became real for once.

The books gathered dust as did the endless supplements besieging my bookshelf. Yet, for sentimental reasons, I could not part with them. Lord of the Rings became a major revival for the genre. It is widely accepted that D&D is a tribute to Middle Earth. I feel it goes much deeper than this, as the architypes can be found all over popular culture. Harry Potter to Star Wars is a little of the magic of old TSR.

That brings us to the present and my rediscovery of the fabulous Forgotten Realms. I approached it with much caution. What had they done to my baby? Absolutely the greatest honor. The entire world is here, with all the vivid details I remembered. It was a little expensive and short on maps but worth it! I have every map 10 time over on my fantasy shelf. Now, I would like to see Kara-Tur, Maztica and Zhakara updated in this format. It is very tidy and easier to carry around in a single book. Now back to the novels, there are about 20 I have to catch up on. Its that old cliche-so many books, so little time.

Thank you, to all that have kept the dream alive! For it is fully developed and ready for the next generation of dreamers! Elminster, if you read this, thank you for your magical input.

5 out of 5 stars love forgotten realms.......2006-03-09

just recently had a chance to use the forgotten realms campaign setting, i love this book it was so helpful with forgotten realms lore, and not to mention npcs to use thanks amazon for carrying so many fine products like this,

4 out of 5 stars Definately worthwhile, but a few flaws..........2005-12-20

I've read through a few setting books, and rather than write a super long review, I'd refer you to "W. Johnson", his is an excellent review.

My 2 main gripes with this book are:

1.) Not enough maps. They give you a few detailed maps beyond the big ones here and there, but really could have put in several more and removed some of the big NPC entries.
2.) The organization for each kingdom entry is one of the most scatterbrained I've ever seen. It's not alphabetical, not one corner of the map to the next, not top to bottom, left to right or anything. There is almost literally no sensible order through the whole kingdom description list. It makes me crazy...!

Now that the bad is out of teh way... I think that the prestige classes presented in this book are interesting. Red Wizards are definately worth a look. The overal level of description the culture of the world recieves is excellent. The history of the world is well described. It could be a bit better, but it's not bad.

Overall, I give this 3.5/5, rounded up to 4/5 on the rating system here.

                    5 out of 5 stars The newby's opinio.......2005-07-22

So, I'm pretty new at this whole Roleplaying buisiness, but I played many of the Computer games set on this universe, the Forgotten Realms universe, and I enjoyed them all! Now that I started playing D&D as a true Roleplaying game, I found that the Forgotten Realms campaign is one of the most Exciting, Magical and Challenging settings created for the D&D game! So, sit around, get a beer and be part of Elminster's tales.

                              Book Description

The first book to combine business management and scientific studies shows how the personality traits of successful entrepreneurs may be inheritedand what you can do to make the jump from employee to entrepreneur. What exactly does it mean to be a born leader? Are some people naturally endowed with characteristics that lead to success? Could success be the result of something in our DNA? INSTINCT explores the radical new concept that business success is based on cell biology, evolution, and genetics. Thomas L. Harrison shows readers how to determine if they have inherited these genesand how to compensate if they are lacking some of these vital traits. An important and groundbreaking book, INSTINCT is sure to revolutionize the business and science worlds for years to come.

5 out of 5 stars Science grounds this title from generic prescriptiveness.......2007-08-28

Harrison sandwiches his entrepreneurial lessons firmly between hard science and qualitative anecdotes, avoiding the over-obvious 'duh factor' of most business titles. He manages to keep the narrative flowing and free of formulaic panaceas to all of life's ills.

The lessons comfortably adapt to individual personalities and reassure the reader in being the best of themselves versus 'like me'. By the end of Instinct, you'll certainly have gleaned at least a few tricks to sharpen yours.

And you'll sleep better knowing nice guys can finish first.

4 out of 5 stars Ambitious Body of Work.......2007-08-15

This book is an extremely ambitious project. Linking core DNA construct with behavior is exploring uncharted territory and Tom Harrison is courageous in attacking the subject.

The extent of the biological - attitudinal connection is arguable but the practical tools that reveal consistent behavioral patterns is compelling even life-shaping. I would love to see Tom pursue another link - that of spiritual impact on behavior. It's equally if not more ambitious than this effort.

In the end, I thought his editor may have let him down a bit in that the book's readability is somewhat less than optimum. Nevertheless, this is a provocative piece and one to be included in any journey of self-discovery.

5 out of 5 stars An excellent book to read when working on what next step in life may be........2007-07-17

As a recent college graduate searching for direction and guidance, I found Instinct, by Mr. Tom Harrison, to be a very insightful book full of advice and personalized examples.

The charts and personality quizzes give the reader the opportunity to evaluate him or herself, making it easier to target weaknesses and strengths.

I cannot wait to give it to my friend and sister so that we are able to discuss it at length.

It is an excellent read for anyone at any point in their life, but has been a particular inspiration for me at this time in mine.

5 out of 5 stars Fascinating Analysis of the Entrepreneurial Spirit.......2007-03-14

If you're ever wondered why some people seem genetically predisposed towards success, you would do yourself a favor by picking this book up and reading it in one sitting (which I did.)

Harrison has an unusual background in cell biology, entrepreneurship and as a CEO, which makes him uniquely qualified to explain exactly why you may - or may not - have an inclination to start and run an uber-successful company.

What I loved most about this book, however, was its thoughtful and smart analysis of why entrepreneurs share common traits. I always wondered, for example, why the most successful entrepreneurs I know do not just run a string of multi-million dollar companies; they also sit on a plethora of non-profit boards, chair major research projects for their alma maters and also run the tennis round robins at their country clubs.

Harrison explains this as entrepreneurs' propensity towards "openness" and to constantly wanting to pursue new intellectual interests and activities, all the while drawing lessons between seemingly unrelated strings of thought.

On p. 44, for example, Harrison quotes Thomas Edison who was once asked to sign a guest registry and answer what he was "interested in." Edison's response? "Everything."

Instinct also does a great job explaining the importance of charisma for an entrepreneur and of treating people well. I like Harrison for that, and for writing about the power of persistence, such as early in his career when he got a job at an A&P by stopping by the local store every week for months. Persistence and optimism are vastly under-rated qualities, and Harrison does a terrific job giving them proper credit and explaining their power.

5 out of 5 stars Understaning yourself from your DNA out!.......2006-06-05

This is a truly inspired book. It deftly takes on both sides of the genetic lottery: it you were dealt a good hand, it provides insights on how to maximize your potential; if your were dealt a bad hand, it provides equally useful insights on how to improve your ability to succeed. If you ask me, this is more of a great self-help book than a business book. Anyone - business person or otherwise - who reads it will walk away with something positive to work with. Here, science meets practicality and the result is personal empowerment.
