This is a wonderful book in the series with wonderful reproductions of the posters of the decade. Makes a wonderful gift for someone who loves movies as well as a great coffee table book. Highly recommended

This is one of my favorite coffee table books!!! This was probably the best era for movie posters, in my opinion. Some of my favorite movie's of all time are in here...actually..most of them!!!....................bought some of the poster re-issues because the originals are sooo expensive!!.....zzzzzzzzzzzzz

Like the other decade books in this series Film Posters of the 60's is a sensational buy. You could either keep it intact as a collection of posters in a book to show and discuss with friends, or cut the book up and actually have a vast number of posters up on your wall. This book is about a third the size of your standard film poster and most movies are full page colour. Any of them would look great up on the wall.
The 60's bought Sean Connery as James Bond to the screens. Rock stars like The Beatles also made movies. Films like Cool Hand Luke, The Graduate, Dracula, Night of the Living Dead, The Endless Summer, 2001 a Space Odyssey, Ocean?s 11 along with a heap of Westerns and World War movies like The Dirty Dozen and The Great Escape have stood the test of time. Clint Eastwood, Steve McQueen, Dustin Hoffman and others went up on walls for the first time in the 60's and you can put them up again today.
I wasn't born in the 60's but I still know most of these great movies. Buy this book.
An excellent review of the great film posters of the '60's.......1998-09-29
Tony Nourmand's "Film posters of the 60's" is a wonderful and colorful coffee table style book that is a great treat to look through. There are many of the classic film poster images of the French New wave, the films of Stanley Kubrick and the classic 007 posters, just to name a few. Film poster collecting is a great adventure and this book reflects that enthusiasm. This book was lovingly organized with great detail. A superb value! Looking forward to future editions.

Academia encounters men's fashion.......2004-11-13
Tim Edwards laments that men's fashion has only been analyzed by fashion journalists, not sociologists. Thus, his project is to flesh out the contours of an academic discussion of men's fashion. As much as he mentions sociology, this books employs philosophy and economics heavily.
This book is not for everyday guys that just like to shop or read magazines like "Maxim." It's a rigorous academic examination. Though the book is small, its discussion is heavy material. It takes a while to get through it. Those who love Valerie Steele's fashion analysis will love this too.
This book looks at an "Anglo-American" phenomenon, but the emphasis on on Anglo, rather than American. The author often mentions a fashion house called Next which we don't have in the US. He mentions a 1980s discussion of "the New Man" and I don't think that was brought up in the US, unlike "metrosexuals" who are highly discussed on both sides of the pond. I don't believe in American isolationism, so having to focus upon a country other than my own didn't bother me. I just couldn't relate to many of Edwards' references.
Though the chapters intend to have separate topics (marketing, shopping, magazines, etc.), the examination pretty much blends together. Many chapters do not touch upon their primary subject until the last few pages of the chapter. For example, the New Man isn't brought up until the last pages of chapter three. Next isn't mentioned until the end of the chapter called "The Marketing of Masculinities." The penultimate chapter discusses economics for the most part and doesn't bring up masculinity until the very end. Chapter Seven, "Express Yourself: The Politics of Dressing Up," is obviously the most important chapter as the author refers to it throughout the text.
This book looks at the suit and its effect upon masculinity frequently. So other men's clothing items or trends (baggy pants, kilts, athletic jackets with letters, military uniforms, etc) get placed to the wayside. The author mentions pornography for women on several occasions and it has almost nothing to do with anything, or at least he fails to explain its relevance. There is a 4-paged template of men's fashion ads. Any person, of any gender, who would read this book knows what a men's ad for a suit looks like. This was just a way to kill trees. Though this book was published in the late 1990s, the author says nothing about the Internet. Perhaps it wasn't as big in Britain as it was here, but this is a shock that the most important human tool of the decade never came up. Clothes were advertised and promoted over the web, remember?

nice intro to some lesser known cartoonists.......2004-08-06
I had wished there were more cartoons and less interview text (3 1/2 stars?), but this collection was nonetheless a good introduction to some artists that you might not otherwise find in mainstream publications. The cartoons are not strictly limited to anti-Republican and anti-corporation themes but cover a range of topics including race relations, global warming, consumer culture, etc.
As a reader of the NY Times and Village Voice, I was familiar with the work of Ted Rall, Tom Tomorrow, and Ward Sutton. After finishing Attitude, I ordered a copy of Andy Singer's Cartoons, which is even smaller in size but excellent.

Superb analysis of the unique power of Spanish cinema........1998-08-24
From the films of such towering directors as Luis Bunuel, Carlos Saura, Victor Erice, and Pedro Almodovar, Kinder traces influences to the paintings of Goya and Ribera and the writings of Lorca and Galdos and to the political events in Spain's turbulent history. Most original are her explanations of what makes the melodrama and violence in these films specifically Spanish. It argues convincingly that in order to understand world cinema, one has to know the history of Spanish film. Illuminating and engaging, it is a highly readable, and well written exploration of Spanish art, history, and culture.

Quick Trashy Rock n Roll Read.......2004-05-08
Too little insight into the big stars he worked for, but fun quick read and glimpse into the "you should have been there" years of classic rock and roll. My favorite part was at the end of the book where Alf gives his hard-won advice on how to be a good "minder." If you like VH1 Behind the Scenes-type exposes, then this book is for you. Warning for the faint-hearted: Alf pulls no punches (so to speak) with language, although he does hold his tongue when it comes to revealing intimate celebrity secrets.
A Quick Read.......2004-02-29
You can pretty much read his in one afternoon. The style of writing is essentially oral history. You also get some great British slang thrown in. All in all, a bit choppy, but worth the effort due to no real literary competitors.
Nice story but no meat.......2001-12-03
Alf claims to be the first rock n' roll bodyguard and it's interesting to read how he fell into the job. A nice guy and a nice read but if you are buying this to read controversial info on celebrities, you will disappointed.
Alf describes his early life, history in the service and boxing followed by his foray into the life of a bodyguard. Alf has great history with the Beatles particularly, but also the Stones, Led Zeppelin, Cher and Frank Sinatra as well as many others. While he talks about the good traits, there is no dirt or secrets about these people.
Probably the most interesting relationship he has is with Mike Nesmith of the Monkees. Mike comes across as an interesting guy stuck in a bubble gum band that wants to evolve on a higher level musically.
While this is an enjoyable read, there is no real meat to the book that would need to be there to sell in large numbers.

Alf Weaver tells it like it is. No bull****, no boring stories, but ballsy writing and a whole bunch of stuff about all your favourite rock 'n' roll stars.

Lots of former friends of the stars write kiss and tells, but forget about the kissing and the telling. Weaver ain't one of them. He's got the juice on everyone from Frank Sinatra to The Beatles and also a lot of interesting stuff about The Monkees, Led Zeppelin and all the great bands from the 60s and 70s.

Worth a quick read.......2007-03-23
This book starts out with some very useful insights and great clarity on the foundations of intelligence. The author uses helpful acronyms to support your review of social intelligence. Acronyms may sound trite but look for the underlying message. The second half of the book becomes very light and the epilogue is nothing but pure social editorial. I'm glad I read it and came away with some useful lessons. A good starter or introduction to social intelligence.

I appreciated the theory presented, but I feel that this book is mostly fluff. There's no research presented, just personal anecdotes of people with obviously inept social skills. Bottom line, this book is verbose and filled with common sense at best.

I like books. I read a lot of books on various subjects. This book is not worth reading...it is boring, obvious, and absurd. The best part is the title and the cover, then it is rapidly downhill from there. DON'T waste your money.
