Exercises to get you started drawing..........2002-03-24
I found the exercises helpful to get me seeing and drawing
again after a very long layoff.
Outstanding drawing instruction book for educators.......1998-05-20
I am always leary of drawing instruction books for elementary age children, because many of them are too 'project' oriented and don't focus on concepts and skills related to drawing. This book is different. The author really understands the artistic process in general, and the drawing process in specific. She also clearly understands the developmental stages children go through. She encourages drawing from life, and covers the basic drawing elements and skills in many easily taught lessons that can be adapted to any teacher's circumstances. I use several basic references already, notably Rottger/Klante's "Creative Drawing" and Thiel's "Freehand Drawing". This author's work dovetails nicely with those books, while still giving new ideas on how to teach drawing to children. Students like and are successful at the projects I have taught from her book. A must buy for elementary and middle school/junior high art teachers.

Book Description
Since her first smash-hit fashion show in New York's Hotel Delmico thirty-five years ago, designer Hanae Mori has gone from strength to strength, establishing herself as the preeminent Japanese couturiere of the modern period.
As Stanley Marcus (former chairman of Neiman Marcus) said: "Her clothes were international silhouette.... Her Oriental color palette, her masterful handling of diaphanous fabrics like chiffon, which she floated over hand-painted and beaded foundations, gave a sense of security to the social leaders who adopted her clothes.... Thanks to Hanae Mori, the prevailing concept that 'made in Japan' meant cheap, poor quality goods was forever destroyed!"
Her trademark was the butterfly and, like a butterfly, her career has been restless: never confining herself just to the glitz of seasonal shows in Paris, London, Milan, Munich and New York, she has designed for the ballet (Nureyev's "Cinderella"), the movies, theater, and opera (appropriately, "Madam Butterfly"), and has also created shoe, umbrella, apron, and lacquerware designs.
In this piorial celebration of her work, she has personally selected over 120 examples of her best creations, from the 1960s to the present day. Together they form a retrospective of a true artist's lifetime achievements.

This complete guide to the top-rated anime series on the Cartoon Network covers all the TV series, movies, comics, graphic novels, video games, and model kits from the world of Gundam. Included are detailed synopses of all the different Gundam episodes.
Customer Reviews:
Great Book.......2003-06-12
Gundam: Official Guide is an agile and not very exaustive book about the Gundam universe. But it covers all the series (apart the newest Gundam Seed) with short description, analisys and illustartions. Best of all: it's in English, so you'll can understand what's written inside :)
A must-have for all Gundam fans!
A Good Guide for the Unknown Gundams.......2003-04-13
This guide was good, but some of the reviews I read here didn't give me a good picture of the actual product I would receive. Not ALL the characters of a series were showed, but enough background story and character information was written to develop a basic grasp of the many Gundam series and movies that have not yet been released in the US. It got me interested in the Gundam X, and Turn-A-Gundam, which I really never knew anything about b4 except for their names. (Sadly, this book was written b4 any info on Gundam Seed came out, so it has nothing on that series.)
I recommend this book for anyone who wants to learn more about the Gundam series, especially the one not yet released in US. I DON'T recommend this book as a sourcebook for the Gundam universe, all the info is correct, as far as I know, but the guide never gives enough of it.
Check out the Gundam Official Guide!.......2002-05-04
The "Gundam Official Guide" is a must have for all Mobile Suit Gundam fans! I really suggest you buy it. It has info on all of the Gundam TV series', OVAs, movies, and the live action movie "G-Savior"! Also, it has information on the different Gundam video games and comics / graphic novels!!!! GET IT NOW!
A concise guide to the entire Gundam Multiverse.......2002-04-29
The Gundam Official Guide is one of the most thorough and informative books to cover the Gundam universe. The book covers every single TV series, OVA, and theatrical film to be based upon Gundam, regardless if it has been official released in the USA. For each series you'll find a glossary of terms, statistics of all the characters and Mobile Suits presented, as well as how the Universal Century timeline coincides with that series.
The book also briefly introduces you to some of the more noteworthy Gundam side stories -- a collection of semi-official spinoffs, which include videogames, comics and graphic novels. There's also a decent amount of science and history explained from the universe: Including the space colonies, politics, Mobile Suits, and Newtypes.
There's also a lot of Gundam merchandise covered. You'll find a complete list of USA released plastic model kits and action figures, as well as what's available in the Japanese market, for those who wish to import. Every single videogame based on the series is covered, including domestic and import, along with a rundown of the more notable titles. You'll also find a domestic list of comics and graphic novels.
In the end, there is an impressive amount of information given in this 130 page book, presented in full-color with a good amount of screenshots and illustrations. This is perfect for anyone just getting into the Gundam series, and is essential for any hardcore fans. Plus, the price rather attractive.

I laughed, I cried, I was glad I too had sent my kids to camp........2006-03-02
After hearing my former camp counselors had gotten together to come out with a book of summer camp memories, of course I had to get it! I was not disappointed. Each story is a quick chapter, making it an easy read even in my busy world. I did have to set it down temporarily to run one son into some kind of practice, which I did with a renewed sense of doing what was best for my child. The camp stories had reminded me how important small events in a kids life can be, even if that's just getting to practice on time by a mom with a smile. I laughed with tear filled eyes as I remembered my camp days and I was never so glad that I had sent my boys to summer camp years ago.
Shout hooray!.......2005-11-29
What an entertaining and heart warming collection of camp stories. Whether your recollection of your experience at camp was fabulous or horrible, you will re-connect with memories made during the formative years of your life. What a cast of real-life characters that you shout for or some that you boo. Enjoy the stories and then bask in the nostalgia that is brought on thru the sparkling storytelling.
Memory lane.......2005-10-13
Great memory prompts for wonderful remembrances.
Stories are fun and have messages as well.
A must read for former campers and an inspiration for aspiring campers.
Couldn't put it down!.......2005-10-07
There aren't many "good reads" out there for busy parents who want to start a book like this and not have to put it down! How many books have you read lately that make you laugh out loud, cry, and want to shout "horray!" all at one time? The stories obviously come deep from the souls of these once campers! For parents wondering if they should send their kids to camp, I hope this book reveals to them how precious a gift the camping experience is. I can't think of another place where you can have the independence and the chance to be successful. You just can't fail at camp! You can only be assured that life is going to throw you some curves, and at camp, you can figure out, with a little help from your friends, how to get through it. And usually with good humor as told in these wonderful stories! It's a "must read" for all ages! I also read CAMP, by Author Michael Eisner. I appreciated his experiences that he shared in his book as well, however, in Doddly Do It,the stories were much more entertaining! Thanks to all of the authors for sharing their stories and making me laugh out loud! I truely could not put it down!
Re-live the camp experience!.......2005-08-12
These stories are funny, inspiring and moving! Each one brings back the summer camp experience in a unique way. This book is a testament to the profound and lasting impact camp has had--and continues to have--on our lives. They could have called this book "Chicken Soup for the Camper Spirit" or "Everything I Ever Needed to Know I Learned at Summer Camp" (except they might have been sued). If you want to laugh and cry and get your heart warmed up, read this book!

The Bible of Hawaiian Music.......1999-12-10
This book is probably the best reference book on its subject ever written. It amazes me that the University has allowed it to go out of print. Content is focused on the performers, songs and styles of the 1920-1970 period, along with entries on traditional Hawaiian music and instruments prior to the Haole influence. The greatest value is that the compilers have gathered information on many obscure performers available in no other source.

It is the best and its very helpful.......2000-08-23
This book is great because I belong to the Pokemon Trading Card Game League and it gave me tips on how to improve my deck and to improve my skill in dueling Pokemon Cards. This book also said... wait I can't tell you what else it said because then I would be ruining for other people so I will say nothing else then to buy this book for yourself and read its good tips
If you''re a Pokemon trainer : READ THIS BOOK!.......2000-07-21
This book not only gives you helpful advice on building a deck , it gives individual strategy on each card in the Base Set and Jungle sets . ( If it were a little more updated , it would be a must-have)DON'T WAIT! GET IT NOW!
Great book for newbie players and advanced players alike........2000-04-25
I got this book for Christmas because my decks really blew andI wanted a handy spoiler list. This book has just an awesome deckbuilding section! It goes through every component of building a dreamdeck. The spoilers have a graphic for every card, and you can clearly read the card text. It also has a few archetypes, such as Haymaker, Rain Dance, etc. The biggest bonus was the Pokemon Snap guide, it helped me beat it! I would've liked maybe a few more archetypes and maybe card ratings, but hey, it's still a great book!
The book that changed my game forever........1999-12-03
If you play Pokemon, like Pokemon, and most especially, if you want to be good at Pokemon, this IS the book for you.
No book on Pokemon better covers the strategies and details the techniques needed to win the Pokemon TCG (Trading Card Game) better than this one. Author Brian Brokaw offers highly useful insight into every aspect of the game, from Synergy to disruption techniques, plus three tournament-winning deck designs you can look at to see what a winning deck should be! I cannot tell you how much this book will change your game for the better. I read this book for the first time about four months ago and since then I have won six local Pokemon tournaments. You'll be amazed at what perspective somebody else can offer.
Does every card in your deck help you win the game? It can, and Mr. Brokaw will be happy to show you how.
While this book mainly covers the Pokemon TCG, there are other sections on merchandise, Pokemon Snap for N64, Japanese Pokemon games, Mall Tours and more, including a section on the individual Pokemon and trainer cards, along with strategy tips and helpful rules clarifications for each one (a VERY helpful section, especially for the beginning player).
The verdict: whether you are a beginning player with 10 cards to your name or a multi-talented master of the Pokemon world, this book is bound to help you to see new ways to improve your decks and your game like you never thought possible.
Why buy any other pokemon book?.......1999-11-28
This book is so cool it just isn't funny. I want to give it more stras but i can't because it says, "1 2 3 4 5 stars" there is no, "948572980467 stars". Has all the card spoilers and the prices. (well the olny problem with the whole thing is there is no fossil card things in here fo you out there who know what i'm talking about.
Book Description
Dig Up Some Fossils... Then Build An Unbeatable Tournament Deck! We've got the latest Pokemon craze covered in this extensive guide that has everything you ever wanted to know about the Pokemon Trading Card Game. Learn how to build powerful custom decks in the "Deck-Struction" chapter, check to see what cards you're missing in the Collector's Guide, and even learn how to capture pictures of every elusive Pokémon in the Nintendo 64 hit Pokemon Snap!
Customer Reviews:
Fossilised Fun Phenomenom.......2000-03-25
I thought that the content of this book was extrodinary. It was about the same as the first one but I always had wondered what the fossil TCG would be like. When I collected the full collection of PKMN cards I was delighted. I share the collection with my friend Philip who is just as mad about Pokemon as I am. The book is very helpful because in my old one I ticked of al of the ones I had so it was a great help. It also gives you lots of Pictures of cards at least not in Japanese so I am venturing towards being the ultimate PKMN trainer. The book describes the cards perfectly so I can develop my skills on playing and defeating against my opponent. I hope everyone who gets the book enjoyed as much as me. Bye!

The potential danger in this book's title is the assumption that Peck is rehashing the same material he wrote in The Road Less Traveled. Thankfully, this isn't so. Although he touches upon the same themes that appear in most everything he writes--narcissism vs. self-love and good vs. evil--Peck is clearly speaking to the crucial dilemmas of the 1990s, such as overly simplistic thinking, institutionalized racism and sexism, as well as the media's despairing vision. Now that Peck has reached the maturity of 60, his narrative is less know-it-all than in the days of yore. Yet, ironically, his decades of research, writing, and human service give him more authority than ever.
Book Description
The Road Less Traveled and Beyond is the culmination of a lifetime of Dr. M. Scott Peck's counseling, lecturing, and writing, and the conclusion of the "Road" trilogy. In it, we are led to a deeper awareness of how to live rich, fulfilling lives in a world fraught with stress and anxiety.
With the rare combination of profound psychological insight and deep spirituality that has already spoken to millions of readers, Dr. Peck talks about decision making and the choices we make every day in business and at home, and the ethical choices that may affect the very survival of humankind. We learn the difference between good and evil, to overcome narcissism, to love and be loved, to live with paradox, to accept the consequences of our actions all through life, and to come to terms with dying and death.
Dr. Peck is a guide on the adventure that is life, learning, and spiritual growthlife's greatest adventure. Building in depth and power from the very first chapter to its lyrical and poetic conclusion, The Road Less Traveled and Beyond is an adventure in itself.
Customer Reviews:
Incredible.......2007-04-10
Again M. Scott Peck has created a tool for discovering meaning in the complexity of life. There are answers to be found in the reading of this masterpiece.
Great Spiritual Book .......2006-09-21
Practical, level headed advice. Great psychological insights!
This book would make a great gift for friends or relatives who may be searching for some understanding and meaning in their lives.
I recommend this book!
Execellent Synopsis with new insights.......2006-06-02
I have not read many of M. Scott Peck's books although they have all been highly reccomended. I got this one and it was a PERFECT PLACE TO JUMP IN FOR NEW READERS. He briefly summarizes the highlights of his works and then goes further to bring in his more recent insights. A great book.
It seems most of the reviewers missed most of Peck's points........2004-07-17
It seems most of the reviewers missed most of Peck's points.
I've read all of Peck's books, mostly in chron order, as they were releasted.
It took great courage to write this "synopsis of my entire career." The biggest danger, of course (missed by most, it seems), is that ppl. would then read only this as a quick "cheat sheet" to all of his works -- then fail to go for the depth in each of those. No doubt Peck would, however, affirm this as a "legitimate" shortcut -- as he discourses about in the orig. TRLT.
THE POWER (w/out braggadocio -- which is likely why most readers seem to have missed this point) of Peck's continual self-referencing over HIS PAST 25 YEARS (TRLT just celebrated that anniversary as one of the most-read books this planet has ever seen; quite a feat in itself; tho, since that's only circa 10M books, it's not something our planet should be much proud of) is not: "Hey, read all the rest of my books." It's: "Hey, these TIMELESS TRUTHS I've been discussing for 25 YEARS are, indeed, STILL TRUE."
Don't miss this fact. The work holds up. Let's see if Bill Gates' software does 25 yrs. from now.
It's hugely courageous to come out AGAINST simplism, and FOR the intellect -- as it's so rare nowadays in our disgustingly 4-second-attention-span culture. It's not exactly what will endear you to life's perennial "H.S. Popularity Contest" -- that the immature masses spend their lives aspiring to.
But it's what I'd expect of a master like Peck: throw yourself on the sword of "offending the sensibilities" of the masses, as long as it's really for their own good (and not just lying that it's so), and ignoring your "relative comfort" -- and be willing to suffer for it. (Even your "fans" might be "irritated" if they misunderstand and only think "you're trying to sell more books.")
Again, more of Dr. Peck proving his own case by "walking his own talk" from the 25 yr. old TRLT.
I used to recommend other of Dr. Peck's books -- but now ALWAYS recommend this FIRST. (Apart from the other reasons I've already made apparent -- in TRLTAB continually references EVIL, something of a missing flaw in the orig. TRLT. But, of course, greatly made up for in his then quickly writing POTL.)
PRINCIPALLY B/C LIFE IS SHORT. AND THERE IS NO TIME, NOR SENSE, NOT TO SEND ALL "NEWCOMERS" TO THE TREASURE TROVE FIRST, then let them discover the depth at their leisure and own scheduling.
"LIFE IS AN EMERGENCY." -- Helen Keller
"THE ONLY GOOD IS KNOWLEDGE, AND THE ONLY EVIL IS IGNORANCE." -- Socrates
"THE MAJORITY OF THE STUPID IS INVINCIBLE, AND GUARANTEED FOR ALL TIME." -- Albert Einstein
TIMELESS TRUTH, ANYONE?
Always learn. Never give up. Never surrender........2004-06-23
As one would expect from Scott Peck, I found this to be a very encouraging book. Peck continues to write on suffering, and it's being the key to growth. Most people avoid suffering for their whole lives, avoid growth, avoid looking at themselves. I do that too. This book encourage me to rethink aspects of my life, and consider ways I could pursue anew a path of suffering which leads to growth.
I particularly enjoyed his treatisies on listening. I've read some of his thoughts on this before, but I needed to be reminded. About what it means to listen. About how to listen better. About how often I am thinking about what I am going to say next, and the impact I am having, and my interaction, rather than fully and completely engaging myself with the other, putting myself within the other, to bless the person I am communicating with. And so I've been trying to do that these last few days. And it's still hard work.
Much of this book is written as the final hurrah of a life of contemplation. His stories of his time with his wife are particularly beneficial, as Peck shares about what he has learned from his wife, and what they have learned together, as they have pursued a path of active growth together.
A downside though to this approach of putting in a lifetime of thoughts into a final book is that many times, it seems that Peck is simply referencing every book, quite overtly, that he's ever written. At times, it feels like he's trying to get the reader to buy more of his books. A better editor to discourage him from this approach would have been helpful.
I left this book wanting to follow Peck's suggestions. To remember that life does not conform to myself, and release any expectation that it should. To release the expectation that I can do all things for myself. I appreciated Peck's corrective from The Road Less Traveled, where he gave great support for independence. Here, Peck reminds people of a higher road of interdependence- which means a lot harder work of giving up one's "right" to do things for oneself. It's all about a process of death- for we begin dying the moment we're born. And every giving up is a form of death.
