Book Description
The real Takenouchi has finally made it back to Japan, but his stomach-turning travels have just begun! It's time for the Cromartie school trip, and armed with a plastic bag, he's determined to conquer his most fearsome rival yet - the bullet train! But a lesson in geography could lose him the battle when this crazy train hits high speeds!
Customer Reviews:
TRAIN OF FOOLS.......2006-02-01
Takenouchi, fresh from leading the American Mafia, has returned to Cromartie High to take his rightful place as head of the 1st year students. He might have picked the wrong time to return though, when he finds out his class is taking a field trip and the method of transportation is a super-fast bullet train! He's going to have to seek divine help if he hopes to keep his motion sickness in check and secret! And it's hard for Kamiyama to even get the guys to get off at their stop when most of them don't know what planet they're on, much less any Japanese cities. Hokuto plans to use the rail system to extend his control over other schools, but its' kinda hard when he gets on the wrong train. And who is going to take care of Freddie's horse?
Volume 4 of Cromartie High School is the funniest installment yet in this soon to be classic manga. There are no awkward transitions from one skit to the next and all the jokes are strong. Mechazawa is unfortunately absent for most of the volume, but when he does show up with his little brother Mechazawa Beta, a miniature version of himself with shorts and suspenders, you'll find it hard to stop laughing. Some of the funnier bits also included the Destrade High new #2 man and the boss at Manuel High, who serves as a brutal gang leader by day but is the nicest email poster at night, who finds the acts of a flamer on the Internet to be immoral. This is definitely the funniest manga going right now. Be sure to check it out!
For a high school series similar in spirit but with a feminine outlook, I would recommend Azumanga Daioh, the manga and anime.
Book Description
Mythologist and adventurer Phil Cousineau theorizes that riddles are proverbs turned into questions. He believes telling riddles is a lost folk art. This eclectic collection of brain twisters from Leonardo da Vinci to Lewis Carroll is designed to bring the practice back to the living room. Cousineau invites readers into the peripatetic, poetic, and sweet language of riddles.
Customer Reviews:
Embraces the Spiritual Enigma Beneath Riddles.......2006-07-04
Riddles are enigmas that show us directly the irrational vigor of life beneath its rational veneer. Like Zen koans, riddles attack the conventional workings of the mind to open the mind beyond reason to the delight of the mystery before us.
Phil Cousineau's `A World Treasury of Riddles' is an accessible book about "enigmas, conundrums, puzzle poems, bafflers, charades, logogriphs, teasers, verbal jigsaws, queer words, and quiz questions." His style will delight young readers and those who enjoy a poetic flare for language. That said, the prose is also tight and to the point, its pith arrangement of vibrant language will surprise the more scholarly reader with its ease in tackling important questions within the cultural dialogue. From such a seemingly irrelevant topic Cousineau tickles our creativity and turns our awareness toward profound vistas. The simple or silly twist of tongue again and again reveals the profound, timeless, and eternal truths against which the ego breaks and the spiritual seeker finds solace.
The book itself is divided into five riddling sections: The Introductory, The Pleasury, The Guessery, The Sourcery, and The Unforgettery. Each has its own playfulness.
A World Treasury of Riddles is lyrical, poetic, and imaginative. An absolute wonder to read.

Note from the Publisher.......2006-06-30
We're extremely happy that the book has been found to be an excellent resource.
We wanted to clarify why there are two books available on Amazon with two prices. Allyn & Bacon, a Pearson Education Company, is an educational publisher, and as such we publish books with pedagogical tools to be used in college courses. The edition with the sample log line and treatment and sample step outline appendices is for the education market. When we decided to publish an edition for the broader consumer market, titled The Complete Screenwriter's Manual: A Comprehensive Reference of Format and Style, the pedagogical tools were no longer necessary, and thus we could remove them and set the trade edition at a lower price.
excellent resource (but buy the other cheaper copy).......2006-03-28
Every page of this book -- except two appendices (16 pgs: Sample Log Line and Treatment, and Sample Step Outline) -- is identical to what is found in "the Complete Screenwriter's Manual, another version of this book at $12.32 Amazon ($18.95 retail). That being said, the content that is identical is absolutely excellent. Both works outline in extreme detail how to format all the elements of a screenplay: dialogue, slug lines (scene designations), instructions or action description, parentheticals, and transitions. Copious examples of how to write into a screenplay the following: sound effects, flashbacks, phone conversations, car scenes, foreign languages, dreams, time-shifts, voiceovers, and much more. Also shows common MISTAKES in formatting that mark a script as the work of an amateur.
Book Description

Best Screenwriting Manual on Market.......2007-08-20
This book is definitely the best screenwriting manual on the market, and anyone who dreams -- even in their wildest imagination -- that they might someday want to write a screenplay must have this book. It should also be part of the reference library for anybody who is currently in the script writing business.
EXCELENT REFERENCE TO WRITE SCRIPTS.......2007-01-09
I was in the process of writting a script and had lots of questions on the Hollywood format, almost all were answer by this excelent book.
Do not look in here for dramatical structure, this you need to look for somewere else.
A Great Easy Access Reference.......2007-01-06
I recommend this as a reference for anyone who wants to find answers quickly. I have several screenplay formatting books and this one is definitely one of my faves. I don't think that any one book is the be-all-and-end -all guide to writing screenplays, but this is a must have for you collection. It allows you to reference information without searching for hours and having to read all of the preceeding information.
Book Description
Before there was Ringo, there was Pete. Drummer with the Beatles from 1960 to 1962, Best played with the band in Liverpool and Hamburg, then was unceremoniously dropped on the eve of fame and fortune. In Beatle! he relates previously unknown anecdotes that form a fascinating look at the least-documented period of Beatles history.
Customer Reviews:
SIMPLY BEST.......2005-11-22
In a sense Pete Best was a winner of another kind.
He made a succesful marriage for one thing and after 1995 a lot of money.
His recording career in the States came to nothing and yet the songs were typical Merseybeat, mostly written by Waddington and Bickerton who would achieve success in the 70s with a string of hits by the Rubettes.
Also overlooked is the fact that he was the only one of the 1962 Beatles who got a Decca recording contract
A brutally honest account by the REAL fifth beatle.......2005-09-07
Wow. I read this book and enjoyed it immensely. It is the most honest account I have read in years.
Pete Best was with the Beatles during the early sixties, when they had yet to hit the big time. They spent several months in Hamburg, just learning their trade. He was with them through the Cavern Club years and the Decca audition. But just when things started to go right for the band, he was sacked.
Why?
We don't know. Pete says that he still doesn't know after all these years.
You may expect the book to be bitter about the Beatles success - but it isn't. You may expect him to bad mouth the band throughout - but he doesn't. He paints them in a remarkably nice light, that comes across as both honest and believable.
He recounts tales about drugs, drink and girls - and describes the personalities of the big bands they met - Tony Sheridan and Gerry and the Pacemakers for example.
And he also gallently talks about the day he was sacked, and the reasons why he thinks they did it.
The prologue at the end that describes his subsequent career shows that we shouldn't be sorry for him at all... What we wouldn't give to be at the heart of that!
Beatle The Pete Best Story.......2003-08-12
Highly recomending this book for any Beatles Fans.
Anyone who is interested in the early Beatles History
this is a must read....
I finished reading this book in just under two days.
And like another reviewer I also found myself unable to put it down! It just drawns you in.
I came away with a different prospective on Pete,
really not knowing much about him or his life except that he was the original drummer for the Beatles.
I actually bought this book to be autogrpahed as I was going to see him the following week and lucky the book arrived in time..
A must have!!!!!
A Must For Beatlemaniacs, Fascinating and Evocative.......2002-02-18
Pete Best occupies a place in history worthy of a great Shakespearian character. He was the Beatles' original drummer who was sacked in favor of Ringo Starr at the precise moment the band was offered a recording contract by George Martin of E.M.I. Records. Best and co-author Patrick Doncaster tell the whole early Beatles saga, sparing us few details of the carousing, pranks and debauchery, but also imparting the fun, cameraderie, and musical growth of the Fab Four in those heady Mersyside days. I was expecting a fun read when I bought this book, but never expected the haunting, spooky feeling that remained after I finished the last chapter entitled "Down Among the Ghosts." In this short final chapter, Pete describes his emotions today when he wanders down into his mother's basement, the site of the former Casbah Club, one of the original Beatles venues. Here he lets himself travel back in his mind's eye to the rollicking days when Liverpool's musical explosion was going full tilt; and the bands, the screaming girls, the laughter, and dreams of glory were his everyday reality. In these visits, he conjures up the many departed people and former friends who poured downstairs each night. He sometimes takes a few whacks at his little brother's drum kit which sits by the old coffee bar. Then, he lets the cloud of memory evaporate, and climbs back up the stairs as today's Pete Best, a civil-servant living not far from his old home. Really a unique and amazing read!
One of the "BEST" books about the Beatles.......2001-12-18
Just by chance, I picked this book up at a Tower Records, and found myself unable to put it down! Pete Best sounds like a true, honest to goodness gentleman, and I must admit that his firing is by far one of the more seedier, dirtier chapters of Beatle lore. Pete gives excellent insight into these first few years that helped bring rise to Beatlemania. I especially found his story about the George Harrison illness episode to be utterly haillarious! I won't tell anymore about it; read for yourself. The reader is given a very there-as-it-happened feeling. As far as Pete's drumming goes, a Keith Moon he was not, but he did what was required and being a drummer myself, I think the whole thing about not being good enough was a wrong assesment. I was very pleased to read this book and know that Pete has handled himself in his later years very well after the incident involving his being fired from the group. I understand he's now doing the lecture circuit routine. Good for you Pete; you deserve your fair share of acknowledgement; you helped get the Beatles to the level of success they achieved. Highly recommended!

Customer Reviews:
The perfect introduction for the novice poker player.......2006-09-09
No Limit Texas Hold'em poker has experienced a phenomenal growth in popularity and players in large part because of the miniature cameras that have allowed television viewers to experience the excitement and drama of tournament play. In The Secret Code To Texas Hold'em, author Jim Pontillow draws upon his more than twenty years of experience in the gaming industry (which includes operating a card room) to distill into a single, highly portable, "user friendly" instructional reference for aspiring Hold'em players. Pontillo (who has an academic background in math) treats playing poker as a combination of science and intuition. The result is a spiral bound reference that covers standard poker hand rankings, venues and styles, bets, Hold'em basics, strategy tips, a glossary, and an appendices of odds. The unique aspect of The Secret Code To Texas Hold'em is the chapter on "The Chip" which teachers players how to record play information with a kind of poker short hand. Enhanced with an accompanying CD allowing entry into an Online Poker Room and a $100 credit, The Secret Code To Texas Hold'em is the perfect introduction for the novice poker player looking to get involved with a game of Texas Hold'em!
Waste of money!.......2006-02-10
There are no "secrets" contained in this book. Not even a beginner could find it useful. The "Secret coded chip" is somewhat confusing. It contains symbols which refer to different starting hands, which ones you should or should not play with in what circumstances. Most books address these topics more in depth.

First Anniversary Retrospective.......2004-02-03
Yesterday my staff and I celebrated the one year anniversary of my restaurant. The Restaurant Start-Up Guide was an integral part of my planning process, and I have recommended it to three other friends this year who are starting their own businesses. The month-by-month approach was not only motivating; it lent structure to a sometimes overwhelmingly complicated process. My previous experience was in hands-on restaurant management. The Start-Up Guide taught me the business basics and directed me to other sources of information I needed to get started. I will continue to recommend it to others in the future.
College professors writing a restaurant start-up book.......2001-05-23
This book is absolutely useless other than for academic interest. If you read the bios of the authors carefully they have never started or run a restaurant and that reflects the writing. The whole book is about marketing, planning, spreadsheets; something that would be taught in a college classroom. I really wasted my money on this book.
Provides all the information necessary to plan the venture.......2001-05-21
This new edition of Restaurant Start-Up Guide provides a 12-month plan for starting a restaurant, and is packed with financial and start-up information which will prove essential to any who plan on such a venture. Tips and techniques from two restaurant and business start-up pros provide all the information necessary to plan the venture, from creating revenue to determining the restaurant's focus and clientele.
Good resource that is honest about the industry........1999-07-29
I'm now reading this book for the second time. The step by step guide is in a prudent timeline and very comprehensive. The authors add in enough anecdotes and survey results from succesful restauranteurs to keep the text interesting. The authors pay alot of attention to making sure readers really want to get into this business.
