Book Description
This catalogue covers the ABC's of Noland's pictorial vocabulary since he began painting in the 1950s--the circle, the chevron, and the stripe. With that foundation, Noland built an influential oeuvre that communicated the substance and associative power of color. This compact retrospective provides a fine overview.

Wide ranging - for the beginner.......2003-01-16
This is a popular-level, wide ranging book about tartan, including some historical details, some discussion of tartan design, and some (ridiculously brief) instructions on hand-weaving.
The bulk of the book is a set of gorgeous pictures of tartan swatches, and matching thread counts, with a few historical notes. These are mostly the better-known clan tartans, with pictures (but not thread-counts, damn it!) of a few regimental, royal and district tartans.

Customer Reviews:
Eiken is the breast--I mean, BEST manga i've ever read!.......2005-11-21
I'm a huge fan of Eiken. I read this entire manga book and I enjoyed it a lot. This series is all about comedy and REALLY REALLY GIGANTIC BOOBIES! It made me laugh too. So, if you're a fan of reading manga books and looking at sexy girly characters with big breasts, Eiken's the perfect choice for you to enjoy. Go for the series and DVD as well! Age 16+ due to breasts bigger than your head and more. ;)
Seiji Matsuyama, we salute to you and Eiken!
A Great Manga, My Personal Favorite.......2005-10-28
This is the best manga for lovers of huge boobs! At least three of the girls in the Eiken Club have F-cups or larger, the art is very good, and it caters to a number of different interests. Don't expect any total nudity though. Media Blasters did a good job in this release, without censoring anything, unlike some other disgraceful companies. The translation is pretty good, but excludes all Japanese honorifics to simplify it more. If you're interested in the anime DVD as well, do yourself a favor and read this book first. It might answer a few questions you'd have about the anime. Volume 1 includes some character sketches and author notes at the end of the book. Suggested rating by Media Blasters: 16+.

Book Description
On a par with the best of Bill Bryson and Pico Iyer, Alec Le Sueur's bestselling insider account of life at the world famous Holiday Inn, Lhasa, Tibet (altitude 14,000 feet) pits Communist owners against capitalist manager to create a chain hotel in Shangri-La. Against all odds, heroic Tibetan workers fight with Chinese bosses who turn off the heat in reezing weather when occupancy falls below 20 percent. They struggle against Maoist bureaucrats trying to break up the first Miss Tibet beauty pageant. And they delicately remove the American Express card from the wallet of an apparently deceased guest to cover room charges. Nonstop hijinks make this one of the funniest travel books on the planet.
Customer Reviews:
hilarious book!.......2005-02-25
Much better than all those boring books on Tibet. This one made me laugh out loud! He doesn't really try to tell the sad story of Tibet, as it's about all the crazy antics that went on in this amazing hotel (a Holiday Inn - in Tibet??!!) but as you read it and laugh at the funny stuff, you can't help gain a better understanding of what life is like there. If you want to know more about Tibet or just want a good read that will make you laugh, get this one.
Great Read.......2004-01-15
I picked this book up at a sale at my local book store. What a find! I've been to many of the places in the book and have to say that the author is spot on. I even had lunch at the hotel that he worked at during the time he was there.
Its a very funny read. If you've never been to Tibet, the book will still entertain you, and make you want to go! If you HAVE been to Tibet, then you'll enjoy it even more.
Good Book.......2004-01-01
I enjoyed reading this book about a man that gets a job in Tibet at the Holiday Inn which is nothing like the holiday inns here. Had information about the country and some funny parts.

Fabulous! The Story of Queer Cinema
ASIN: 0813534860 |
Book Description
Coined in the early 1990s to describe a burgeoning film movement, "New Queer Cinema" has turned the attention of film theorists, students, and audiences, to the proliferation of intelligent, stylish, and daring work by lesbian and gay filmmakers within independent cinema and to the proliferation of "queer" images and themes within the mainstream. Why did this transition take place? Was it political gains, cultural momentum, or market forces that energized the evolution and transformation of this cinematic genre?
The volume is divided into four sections: defining "new queer cinema," assessing its filmmakers, examining geographic and national differences, and theorizing spectatorship. Chapters address the pivotal directors (Todd Haynes and Gregg Araki) and salient films (Paris is Burning, Boys Don't Cry), as well as nonmainstream and non-Anglo-American work (experimental filmmaking and third world cinema). With a critical eye to its uneasy relationship to the mainstream, New Queer Cinema explores the aesthetic, sociocultural, political, and, necessarily, commercial investments of the movement. Although there are certainly other books on gay and lesbian issues in film, this is the first full-length study of recent developments in queer cinema, combining indispensable discussions of central issues with exciting new work by key writers.
Features
-Provides a definitive introduction to New Queer Cinema
-Clear structure with each section addressing a key topic in the study of New Queer Cinema
-Themes covered include genre, gender and race, politics, media, and the relationship between New Queer Cinema and the mainstream.

Not only will you get far into time with them, but you'll have fun learning about real people in history at the same time!
Customer Reviews:
Elly.......2005-05-04
"Murder in Bozeman" was one of those "I-can't-put-this-down-till-I-know-what-happens-next!" books. Each chapter left me on the edge of my seat, itching to know what would happen next. Oz and Erika, the main characters, are easy for teens to relate to and are fun people to travel back in time with. The adventures were thrilling, the history exciting and the characters intriguing. It is a great read and I can't wait to read the next one!
Exciting, informative, and totally fun reading........2000-09-19
There is a museum of clocks (the Bily Clocks) in the small town of Spillville, Iowa, located in the same house where Antonin Dvorak once worked on his New World Symphony. No one knows for sure why two Czechoslovakian brothers dedicated their lives building and carving these enormous wooden clocks. Two teenagers, Erika and Oz manage to go back in time to meet the people who lived at the time of the brothers to find the answer to their obsession. Lost In Spillville is a kind of historical science fiction where the story is told from the point of view of each character and presents the reader with fun, a sense of adventure, and a bit of insight into life. The first in a series of Erika & Oz "Adventures in American History", Lost In Spillville is based on extensive historical research and eyewitness accounts in order to remain true to history. The author Sam Drexler leaves his readers eagerly looking forward to the next title in his exciting, informative, and entertaining series.
The best book ever.......2000-06-27
The book Lost in Spillville is the greatest book. It takes your mind off anything and everything on your mind. It relates to familiar and unfamiliar characters of history in a fun way that makes the story exciting. The characters of the story are fun to read about and share their adventure with. This magical adventure was fun to read and absorb, and I am so excited to hear there are more to come.

An intimate look at days gone by.......1999-01-30
*They Came to This Place* is a well-researched history of Czech settlers in a small town in Northwest Iowa. As a person of Czech ancestry, the value of this book for me lies in a new awareness of the hardships borne by those rugged souls who made my life in America possible. From Indian hostilities to prohibition, a fascinating slice of bygone days of American life emerges from the pages of this book.
Klimesh describes himself as neither historian nor writer and then proceeds to prove himself wrong on both counts.

Book Description
Based on Stan Sakai's Eisner-award winning comic-book series, USAGI YOJIMBO: Anthropomorphic Fantasy Role-Play is a stand-alone game set in a fantastic version of Tokugawa-era Japan. While the warring states have been brought to peace under the watchful eyes of the Shogunate, danger still abounds in the form of greedy bandits, scheming warlords, and even the supernatural. But a house that heaps evil upon evil cannot stand ... Players take on the roles of brave samurai warriors, clever schemers, wise priests, and other heroes as they battle against the forces of corruption, despair, and evil in Sakai's fantastic blend of historical and fantastical Japan. More that a source-book for the Usagi characters and stories, this game stands apart as a combination of story-telling and role-playing -- where players work together to craft tales of heroism and drama. A unique system combines simple rules for complex results -- even allowing characters to trade old abilities for new ones as the world changes with them. Play along side Usagi, Tomoe, Gennosuke as they fight Lord Hikiji and his minions ... or create whole new stories of your own.

You had better be a fan.......2000-03-23
This is a great book if you are a fan. It provides lots of information that you can't really find anywhere else (i.e. the timeline). this book suffers however when it comes to the game. there is not a great deal of substance to the character development process. Not enough species, skills, occupations or statistical ablities. If you have no knowledge of the comic book Usagi Yojimbo, you should avoid this game. It is not for the serious roleplayer, however, with a little bit of help and a lot imagination this fairly simple game can be a blast.

I don't know if these guys are covering everything or not, but I can tell you this: they sure don't know how to write clearly. Sentences are long-winded and convoluted. I read each sentence over and over just trying to figure it out. I am taking notes by re-writing every paragraph. Appraisal school is difficult enough without having to decipher and translate the textbook into plain English. Today's example:
"The amount of the expected annual 'effective gross income' from the property, estimated by subtracting aniticipated vacancy and collection losses from potential gross income".
I translated that to:
"Effective Gross income equals potential gross income minus (anticipated vacancy + collection losses)."
It makes for very tedious studying.
Great book for new appraisers.......2005-10-10
I have been working as an appraisal apprentice for 3 months. I have read 3 different books and this is the most concise and clear.
I Used Mr. John Tirone's HP-12C Real Estate Book to.......2004-04-05
I enjoyed this real estate appraisal book. However like just about every real estate appraisal book I have seen, the Williams and Ventolo book could use better supplementation on the HP financial calculators so I used a book recommended by one of my classmates, "Professional Real Estate Problem Solving Using the HP12C" financial calculator. This book is written by a Mr. John Tirone, a real estate instructor and attorney from Michigan. I heard that Mr. Tirone supports his books but I was skeptical until we called him with questions on using the hp12C in some of the real estate appraisal problems experienced in our class that used the Williams book.
If your appraisal course requires the William and Ventolo book, try to get a used copy from amazon since theer are lots of these books in the system. If you want to have extra help with the hp calculator, consider the Tirone book on the HP12C. amazon carries the book; this book is worth the money and if you need help Mr. Tirone will help you. His book is a win-win for the student of appraisal or real estate in general.
Excellent text, lousy index.......2004-02-19
This book was required reading for two different course-series I completed last year: real estate appraisal, and real estate broker. Of all the books I had to read (10 total) this was by far the best. Very well written, and it covered the subject matter very well (I wish I could say the same for the broker courses I took -- will have to re-take the state exam a second time because of that...).
One major flaw in the book though: the index is pathetic. I'm currently preparing for the state exam, and when looking to review particular words/phrases/concepts, the index is nearly useless. Was the index computer-generated by some software with a lousy algorithm?
Anyway, it's a great book for the student. But I worry that the lousy index will greatly reduce its usefulness as a reference text when I start work.
Good Start.......2003-05-27
I am a REALTOR, not an appraiser. I bought this book to give me a better understanding of how appraisers arrive at their conclusions.. to better price property or determine if a listing
I am going after will be over priced and not worth my time. As
with all books I learned things I did not know. Worth my money.
