lol. This book was quite fun to read. =) Suzy becker is very talented at observing the funny things dogs and cats do. I think Suzy's dog may be a retriever, while I have a toy breed, but I could still see my dog's charachteristics in 75% of the book. Very funny expressions on the dog owner and the dog that go well with the text. Overall: cute, fun, funny, and worth buying!

If you want a quick laugh, if you're wondering if your dog is the only one in the world that does those "strange things", then you need to pick up this book.
Accompanied by humorous cartoons, the text is simplistic but real. Take the cartoon of the dog smiling for example: taking nearly the whole page, we see a front view of a grinning yellow dog that makes us smile in return. Then, we read the text: "She smiles... when she's just about to throw up or sometimes when she's scratching." and we guffaw. It's so true!
I found myself going through this book and saying, hey, that's exactly what my Sasha does! It's good to know that we all have "The World's Best Dog!"

This is one big orange reason to not buy a cat. You are also in danger of never having much pasta in your diet again, as the big, fat, annoying cat eats all your food, sleeps all over the place and wrecks your furniture. He will also do nasty things to the postie and possibly to anyone you decided to bring over. Still, fairly amusing.

Garfield!.......2007-02-12

"Garfield at Large" is Garfield's first funnies (1978-1979). Lovely to see Jim Davis early ideas. (First strip with Odie, Pookie, first bad Monday...) Beautiful. Garfield's chubbier to begin with. Curious.

Still not "perfect" collections........2006-04-14

This book:

Well, Paws decided to colourize the weekday strips for these new compilations and they look nice. I would have preferred it if they simply left them in black and white and had the Sunday strips in colour, though. The Sunday strips are the same as you would have seen in the newspaper or the "Garfield Treasuries". Except, the colour scheme is modified slightly (not a big deal) and they added the title block (the title "GARFIELD" rising out of the background, with Garfield lying down in front of it) which didn't exist until the early 1980s!

The later collections:

The problem is with the later collections. I noticed that some of these new colour collections which come after "Garfield at Large" have the funny front pages and end pages from the original collections moved around or missing entirely. This may have been a printing mistake, though.

Here is the big problem. The original black and white collections up to and including the sixteenth were missing the title and drop block from the Sunday strips. That is, the title block and the very first block of the strip. This didn't matter for the first few years as these didn't exist. A few years later, the title block mentioned in my first paragraph was introduced and the drop block simply showcased the four major characters, Garfield, Odie, Jon and Lyman. A little later, unique title blocks and drop blocks related to the strip's story were created.

Unfortunately, the new colour collections have the drop block REMOVED in the later collections, yet the unique title block is included. So the strips aren't complete, if you want to read the complete strips, I guess you have to visit the Garfield website.

Still, for the price, it's a great value. The books are printed on high quality paper as usual. Even the new colour "Fat Cat 3-Packs" are printed in higher quality paper instead of that awful "mass market paperback" paper they used to use for the older ones.

Garfield's FAT!!!!!.......2005-09-23

Garfield is a very lazy cute lovable cat that everyone adores. He sits around all day, eats lasagna, sleeps all day, and buggs the crap out of Oddie. He hates any attention. He likes to physically abuse Nermal, and no matter how much he tries he can't make him not cute and loveable.
In this book Garfield tries to do the impossible, LOSE WEIGHT!!! Garfield runs and hides when ANY ONE brings up the word diet. Garfield runs and hides when ANY ONE brings up the word diet. Garfield can be such an idiot (most of the time)!
I like this book because I love to see Garfield do funny things, because I love him SO MUCH!!DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not a blockbuster but a decent read. I enjoyed it greatly. Baltimore must be a Stern Fan (loser). I was at the Hagerstown meet and greet and it was packed. As for the Stern comment, if I remember correctly Greaseman took over AFTER Stern left for NEW YORK and not only held his audience but increased his listeners. Greaseman is very original and very funny. As I said, GOOD READ!

I read this on a plane. It was awful. I was intrigued because my mother used to listen to this guy when we were kids in DC. She thought he was hilarious. I don't know, the book kind of sucked. I did some background on him and his website, Greaseman.org. Check it out. He did an appearance in Hagerstown, Maryland recently and three people showed up and he posts pictures of it. His claims on Greaseman.org of having "MANY" fans may be wildly overstated. I guess "many" to him means five or six. It seems he was popular for five minutes until Howard Stern came on DC 101 and buried him. I'm sorry but the Greaseman is just pathetic. He should be in that car lot in Hagerstown selling cars, not being paid to sign autographs. He should write a new book called "When I was.." where he discusses his rise and fall. Now that would be awesome because I can guarantee it would be a fantastic story. What a moron.

Not a Bio!.......2005-12-10

Come on, it's the Greaseman. Did you really expect this to be biographical? It's a biography of his on-air characters and schtick.

As to the comment about "recycled internet jokes" from some child, I have news for you: Most of these bits were done LONG before the internet. The NET recycled THEM, not the other way around. I started listening to these in 1985. I'm pretty sure I didn't have internet.

Besides, it's the delivery that's the killer, and if you haven't heard him live, he blows Stern away and has the market surveys to prove it, dating back to 1982 or so. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is because it's harder to relay the full effect without the stentorian vocal delivery.

It's obscene, it's funny, and no one gets out without a drubbing and humiliation.

Grease is an equal opportunity offender--he hates everyone.

TERRIBLE BOOK --Avoid wasting your money!.......2004-03-02

This book is a bunch of recylced internet email jokes written as if Mannelli is the originator. Not funny,often tedious to read. The humour is lame consisting of retread jokes you never wanted to hear in the first place. For a book that promises to be an "Orgy of Comedic Wit" it falls way short. The stories within could be found funny for a 12 year-old boy or an 80 year old shut-in. It's hardly worth using to prop up an uneven coffee table leg. I never heard of "The GREASEMAN" before, and I can see why. He couldn't carry Howard Stern's or Bubba's The Love Sponge's luggage. This "clown" is a funny as a knock-knock joke heard for the 10th time.
Don't waste your money or time with it. I purchased mine at a yard sale for $0.50 and read it in the bathroom. Given all of that I still felt ripped off!

I can't stress enough---DONT BUY THIS BOOK!!!--- To sum it up in one word "LAME"

greaseman's a greasepit!.......2002-12-30

The Amazon.com "review guidelines" specifically require that a writer refrain from "profanity, obscenity," and if you like that sort or thing, you should enjoy this book. Greaseman's so-called "biography" is loaded, page after page, with body-part references, sexual activity, lewd "jokes" and his casual embrace of them. Oh, yes, it's all cloaked in Mannelli's patented "code words" and double-meanings, which got him into radio trouble in the past. His "funny" stories seem little more than contrived "biographical" vehicles for delivering vague messages that consistently imply women are to be used and abused. --And the yarns he spins are sometimes not even original! One of them, about a guy in a wheelchair, was used by Henny Youngman (well before the Greaseman knew about writing books) for years! No wonder one of the opening info/credit pages suggest everything in the book be taken "with a grain of salt." Biographically speaking, did I learn more about Nino Mannelli from this book? He probably could have mailed in all the new bio information I got out of it on a postcard. Did I laugh at his stories? Not even once; couldn't wait until I finished the thing, constantly waiting for the "funny" stuff to surface. -A waste of money, to be sure. "Why Does He Drink?" the title of the book implies. --If he actually does drink, we still don't know....

Completely out of date and unnecessary... .......2006-09-13

Okay, I have not even read this book, so everyone stop right there, before you give me an unhelpful vote. Please listen up. I just might save you some cash.

The X Rated movie industry is one of the most fickle, quickly out of date industry there is. I think the Videogames market might have a slight lead in this characteristic, but that's for you to decide.

I couldn't believe when I saw this book, as well as 2 others listed at Amazon. With the internet now, and instant updating, any listing which claims to be current, after 6 months or a year, is just a big sham! I promise there could be no useful information in a book like this, over 1 year old. There really can't.

A good friend of mine, Bobby Asslong, one time sent a prank joke to me through the mail. He had pasted together several X Rated ads, from various magazines, and claimed it was an application to apply to be an X Rated Movie reviewer. I took one look at the shoddy attempt at an advertising brochure, and laughed! It was in black and white, for one, and secondly, it listed a bunch of movies I recognized to be older than 1 year old. I knew it was a sham, since the Porn industry is so fast moving, and anything older than 6 months, is considered so yesterday. Why would they need to hire somebody to review porns? Don't they have enough volunteers?

I'm still friends with Mr. Asslong, and he continues to deny his little prank, but I know the truth. And similarly, because I"m an expert on the porn industry, I know that this type of book is a big waste of money.

A waste of money........1997-12-30

There is very little useful information in this book jam-packed with data. It includes highly debatable physical descriptions of the actors, their aliases, and the names and dates of their films. No plot summaries, no descriptions of their abilities or proclivities, or the relative quality of the films. There isn't even any cross-reference to find out if the actor or actress appeared with another particular actor/actress. Lame.

As the title says, the book is the authoritative collection of records on video games & pinball. As well as arcade machines this includes home computer systems, consoles, and arcade emulation (MAME, specifically). Unfortunately the main problem with this book now is its incompleteness: it's now several years old and somewhat out of date. (See the Twin Galaxies website for a searchable database of all today's records.) An updated and expanded edition is meant to be on its way.

The book makes up for it with a special section on "The Golden Age of Video Games" which recounts the early history of Twin Galaxies and the growth of video gaming in the 80's as a 'sport'. I thought the book took itself a little too seriously here. This section also tells the story of the That's Incredible video game competition, organized by Twin Galaxies, which many people reading this may remember watching on TV.

[As an aside: A clip of this is actually downloadable from the Twin Galaxies website. It's great 80's nostalgia, and listening to the hosts' earnest commentary of the players is sheer camp hilarity! Best Line: "He piles on the pepper and sends down a bun covered with hotdogs and an egg for his four thousand points!"]

The book also includes a detailed section on the TG rules and how to get yourself in the book. I'm looking forward to the next edition being an even thicker book, with records for many more games - not least for MAME!

Since I'm part of the original video game generation, I may be a little biased, but this is definitely the definitive source for video game and Pinball records. And I'm proud that I'll be listed in the next edition.

The Twin Galaxies record book is one of a kind and a must-have for true videogame enthusiasts. For years, Walter's done a fantastic job of compiling videogame and pinball records, and finally collecting them in a book was a great idea. There is so much to read over and so many scores to try and beat, I could really never tire of this book. I only hope to achieve some winning scores so that I can be included in the next edition!

This book is wonderful. It was assigned reading for a course I voluntarily took to improve my professional consulting skills. The book is full of valuable information that is easy to read yet full of depth. With some practice I have made this a regular part of my life, and my relationships both personally and professionaly have improved for it. I think everyone should read this book!

While I'm learning and practicing the helping profession, and reading the book, the content just coincides with my progress concurrently, from active listening, to probing, then challenging. With vivid examples, dialogues, readers can grasp the theory and idea in a very solid way and in my actual sessions working with my clients. The content is comprehensive and I believe it has already become a bible in the Helping Field.
