Simply Astonishing.........2000-12-07
This is a wonderful book for anyone's coffee table. It gives us the history behind the now famous computerized photomosaic, and shows us dozens of examples of some of the more well down ones today. Information is provided for each photomosaic, including why the images used to make it up were chosen, as well as who comissioned the photosmosaic for what reason. A beautiful coffee book to look through.

psychology of dress.......2007-05-17
I have checked this book out twice from my local library and love it. As a fashion marketing major I find this topic fascinating. Just why do we wear clothes? The author presents the information in a straightforward manner. One of the few drawbacks is that is was written in the late eighties so when the author refers to current phenomenon it was current for then, not 2007. However I love the peak into different lifestyles the author gives as well as the photographs documenting them.

Book Description
Megumi, a nine-year-old martial arts enthusiast and all around rapscallion, always wanted to be "the manliest man on earth." After saving a sorcerer from a group of local thugs, Megumi is presented with a magic genie, which can grant any wish. Unfortunately, this genie is slightly hard of hearing, and misconstrues Megumi's original desire as wanting to become the "womanliest woman on earth" and in a flash, Megumi's Y chromosome is swapped for an X! Six years later... Megumi is the hottest girl in school, but has stayed true to his/her tough talkin', punk stompin' ways!!

Just when I thought gender-switching was overdone..........2004-12-27
Cheeky Angel is about a lovely girl. No, a down right hottie female student. She has fine hands, silky long hair, white smooth skin and can beat the stuffing out of any boy she meets. The problem is, six years ago she was a guy. But when she asked...at the time he asked...a genie to make him the "manliest man on Earth" the tiny creature turned him into the "womanliest woman on Earth."
Now Megumi, who all the boys drool over, has another problem. The baddest dude in town seems to like her. In fact, he seems to be in love with her.
What's a girl...er...guy to do?
Genzo - The reason to read this.......2004-08-28
I've read the other reviews, and I just wanted to add mine. "Cheeky Angel" is an interesting "gender-bender" since, until about 3/4ths through it do you get an indication that things are not exactly as they seem. There IS a trick to the gender-bending question, but you have to be paying attention. Or, for some people, it doesn't matter.
Now, that said, enjoy the ride. Frankly, the things that make this worth reading are Genzo and his silly ways. I've enjoyed the anime and I have to say that it was a great ride. Miki, Kobayashi, Yasuda, and Fujiki all help make this a great cast, but it's the rarely seen characters like Megumi's father and mother, her maid, and Genzo's sister that make it fun. Plus, Megumi's rival who arrives around the middle adds to the fun.
This is NOT just a shoujou piece, since there is a LOT of fighting and bad words in it. I was a little disappointed with Viz's translation, since I don't think they give justice to Miki, but at least it was released in English.
Also, the anticipation of Megumi's first kiss is killer, possibly worse than Ranma 1/2 because that one just got silly after 30+ volumes. Besides... we all know she's gonna fall for Genzo. Afterall, I would. ^___^
There's a lot of questioning "what makes a man manly" and "what is feminine" since it is a gender-bender, but I like this discussion because Megumi is so adamant that she's NOT a girl. And Genzo tries SO hard, and he's SO cute, and I just love him to death. With Kobiyashi's strange crush on Soga, the faithful Fujiki, and the ever-peeping hentai Yasuda, this is just fun.
Really. Read it just for Genzo. He's really worth it. XD
Great stuff........2004-08-15
What can I say that hasn't already been said about "Cheeky Angel", just bye it now and see for Yourself You wont be disapointed.
Silly Title, Great Manga.......2004-08-07
I never would have thought I'd be reading something called "Cheeky Angel!" Thankfully, I had some extra time at Borders the other day, and picked this up on a whim. I'm very glad I did.
The basic premise, as has already been described, involves a scrappy little boy named Megumi who gets transformed into a girl by a devious genie - but of course, even as a girl, he retains all of his martial arts moves and violent impulses. As the story opens, it is 6 years since the "curse" took effect, and Megumi has blossomed into a certified babe, now entering high school, where he/she instantly becomes the school obsession. Young Meg almost immediately has the misfortune of encountering the reigning tough guy Genzo; he's making his ex-girlfriend cry, Meg beats him up, and naturally, he is lovestruck.
While the plot sounds simple so far, I have a feeling there is more to the whole "curse" thing than meets the eye, so I'm anticipating plenty of plot twists and turns in the future. Most importantly, this manga is hilarious; I can't recall laughing out loud so much while reading a graphic novel, at least not of late. And, there's some action as well, since Meg still can't keep from getting into fights that showcase her martial arts prowess.
I understand there is also a 50 episode anime series based on this manga that ran in Japan; hopefully, if enough people show interest, it will be licensed and released here in the U.S. soon.
For those looking for a great blend of humor and action, this is very recommended.
Gender Bending fun.... :D.......2004-07-28
I am shoujo queen, but I was interested in picking up something different. I am a conservative Christian so I wouldn't pick certain titles either, but this one caught my eye, and it is pretty intriguing. Although its nothing new, I was drawn into because it was funny, so I bought it.
Now this is the story of Megumi, a young 9yr boy whom is playing around a river bank with his friend one day and they save a "wizard" from an attack. He is then rewarded with a book that holds a genie whom grants him one wish. When Megumi ask to be made "the manliest man alive", he is turned instead into the womanliest woman alive!!! And the thing is, everyone except his friend whom was with him, remember him ALWAYS being a girl. As in being BORN a girl. But he STILL remembers being a boy, he has his memories as a boy. After living as a girl for 6yrs though, he is seeming less and less like a boy with his friends help. But he still fails miserably most the time, especially since he has to keep kicking the guys butts who chase after him because he is so HOT.! :D
Cheeky Angel is a lot of fun. It covers something VERY WELL that I have thought about a lot. "What would it be like to have a sex change?". I mean, that's just plain messing with God's will, but this guy had no choice and everyone remembers him being a girl except him and his friend, so its a little different. In reality he is a woman, but with the memories of a little boy trapped inside. I though "Well, I guess if he failed to find a Genie, he could get a sex change, since technically he is a boy...." HAHAHA its confusing, yeah. But its a HECK OF A LOT OF FUN!!!
All the things that the guys do is hilarious, and I love Soga, he has some of the BEST expressions.! :D So if you want something funny, and/or enjoy gender bending, you will be VERY delighted by "Cheeky Angel"!!!

Book Description
"There is nothing like a dame," proclaims the song from South Pacific. Certainly there is nothing like the fast-talking dame of screen comedies in the 1930s and '40s. In this engaging book, film scholar and movie buff Maria DiBattista celebrates the fast-talking dame as an American original. Coming of age during the Depression, the damea woman of lively wit and brash speechepitomized a new style of self-reliant, articulate womanhood. Dames were quick on the uptake and hardly ever downbeat. They seemed to know what to say and when to say it. In their fast and breezy talk seemed to lie the secret of happiness, but also the key to reality. DiBattista offers vivid portraits of the grandest dames of the era, including Katharine Hepburn, Irene Dunne, Rosalind Russell, Barbara Stanwyck, and others, and discusses the great films that showcased their compelling way with wordsand with men.
With their snappy repartee and vivid colloquialisms, these fast-talkers were verbal muses at a time when Americans were reinventing both language and the political institutions of democratic culture. As they taught their laconic male counterparts (most notably those appealing but tongue-tied American icons, Gary Cooper, Henry Fonda, and James Stewart) the power and pleasures of speech, they also reimagined the relationship between the sexes.
In such films as Bringing Up Baby, The Awful Truth, and The Lady Eve, the fast-talking dame captivated moviegoers of her time. For audiences today, DiBattista observes, the sassy heroine still has much to say.

Fast Talking Dames : From Screwball Screen to Scholary Revie.......2003-08-06
Fast Talking Dames is a survey of the best screwball dames of the 30s and 40s. Within these pages the professor gives brainy reviews of films such as "Bringing Up Baby", "Ninotchka" "The Awful Truth" "His Girl Friday", "My Man Friday" and other gems from the great era of nonstop verbal comedic brilliance which gave birth to those delightful dames named Garbo and Colbert, Harlow and Hepburn, Jean Arthur and Myrna Loy (to name only a few of those whose films are reviewed."
The style is pedantic and calls upon the reader to have a familiarity with the films which are reviewed. Sometimes I felt the author was "stretching" to make a profound statement about
madcap movie making at its finest.
It would have been helpful to have plot summaries of the movies
reviewed. It is easy for the reader to get "lost" exploring symbols in the films. Unless you have seen the movies prior to reading the book you might be in trouble.
The style was dry and academic though she does have good insights (at times) to share with those of us benighted souls who don't teach in the elysian fields of academia. This is a so-so book which could have been much better!
Nostalgia with fine women actors.......2003-06-25
This book discusses the role of women in film, particularly those women from the earlier years of film that were fast-talking and smart. This is a great record of how film tried to sneak intelligent women into their movies, even though society at the time dictated that women should be docile and silent.
A great analysis of women and their roles in United States history.
Disappointed!.......2001-10-15
I love screwball comedies! I have seen all of the movies dissected in this book, and love them all. I was looking forward to an interesting informative book about these great films. Instead, I got long dissertations on what the directors were thinking while they made these films. Being less than comfortable with the concept of the director as the true author of a film(after all, they did use screenwriters, often bringing in others, or even a team, to "punch-up" the script)it seems foolhardy to subscribe all the "Emersonian", "Darwinian", etc., themes to these films. When all is said and done, they are fast funny films, made to bring in the public and give them a good witty evening. This they accomplish with great gusto. For the most part, this book just made me tired. If you want to learn anything new about the films, watch them.
Disappointing.......2001-08-27
Maria Di Battista's look at the lively and complex women of '30s comedy is ultimately disappointing. While chapters on individual films are often interesting, the book contains much too much repetition (the first few chapters seem to consist of di Battista pointing out--over and over--that these were fast-talking dames), and Di Battista's argument suffers from her failure to provide much of a historical context. Worth a look if you have a strong interest in the field; if you're just beginning to read about it, try Elizabeth Kendall's *The Runaway Bride* (which provides a context for actresses, movies, and genre), James Harvey's *Romantic Comedy from Lubitsch to Sturges* (not as analytical as it might be, but positively majestic in scope), and Stanley Cavell's *Pursuits of Happiness* (aimed at academic readers).
The Fast-Talking Women of Comedy.......2001-08-08
Maria DiBattista, in Fast-Talking Dames, looks at the women (Jean Harlow, Carole Lombard, Ginger Rogers, Myrna Loy, Jean Arthur, Claudette Colbert, Katharine Hepburn, Irene Dunne, Rosalind Russell, Barbara Stanwyck, and, even, Great Garbo) who helped create a new woman, a dame as it were, in screen comedy in the late thirties until the mid-forties. This woman relied on her voice for her wit and her power and the author does a very good job of looking at the effect and originality of this voice in the beginning of the book. The text can veer into over-analyzing at times, particulary in the chapters devoted to just one movie, but that is part of the charm of a film studies book. It will make one look a little longer and lot more carefully at these comic screen gems in the future. Anyone interested in screwball comedy will enjoy this book whether they agree with all the conclusions or not. The text may get a little bogged with a heavy scholar's hand but the material being studied always helps the lighten the load. An interesting addition to film studies books.

Book Description
This book covers the essentials of needs analysis from the emerging trainer's perspective by providing just the right amount of support and knowledge without going too deep into the subject. The topics covered include when and how to do a training needs analysis; using informal and formal analysis techniques; goal, task and population analysis; and how to develop and present a training plan for management approval. Each chapter includes appropriate data gathering tools. The Skilled Trainer series provides practical guidance for those who've had some exposure to training and would like to take their career to the next level.
Download Description
The Trainer's Journey to Competence draws on Jean Barbazette's thirty-five years of experience in training trainers. The book serves as both a useful source of career advice for those in the training field, and as a starting point for creating a role-specific professional development plan. Professional trainers can use this resource to assess their knowledge, skills, and attitudes and use this information to create an individual development plan. The book can be equally helpful when creating internal training certification programs for organizations.
Customer Reviews:
Practical.......2007-08-23
Other books I considered purchasing on this topic require interpretation of the content or demand a Masters degree in Organizational Development to understand the author's point. Barbazette avoids those traps and instead offers useful methods and tools in a format I found easy to read and easy to implement. Given the multiple ways I have applied what I learned from the book, I consider this book one of my best purchases in the last twelve months.
Presents a Proven Three Phase Plan.......2006-06-22
First is the collection of information. In order to proceed with any kind of training some information needs to be determined before you can even decide that training is needed. And if it is, what kind of training. Perhaps this is product training for the sales people. Perhaps it is time management. Perhaps the problem being addressed doesn't call for more training but some kind of change in the work flow, the people, or the computer system.
Second is the analysis of the collected information. This may be summaries, complete with charts and tables; this may find something so obvious that you will wonder how it was missed. The end of this phase is to present to the management requesting the study to determine what, if any training is needed.
Finally is the development of a training plan. The author presents a ten part plan that begins with Issue Definition, and ends with an evaluation of the results of the training. These steps have been defined over many years and are a proven approach.
A CD is supplied with the book that includes forms, checklists and other tools that are referenced in the book itself.
