This is the funniest and cleverest animal book I have read for years. It's written in such a straight-faced style that some readers have taken it seriously, and tried to get their cats to paint like the ones in the superb photographs! Absolutely delightful.

Surprisingly Fascinating.......2007-06-02

A few years ago, I was given the companion to this book, Why Paint Cats: The Ethics of Feline Aesthetics, and I personally found it a little ridiculous, but loved the photos. So, when I saw this at my local store, I just picked it up for a glance, expecting the same kind of "well, some people are just weird" reaction. However, as a big believer in animal consciousness, I was immediately entranced with the stories and background of these animals who clearly had more to "say" than the average person would think. The pictures are beautiful and, even when the stories of the "famous artists" get a little overblown, the crux of each is entrancing.

Apparently, the books available here are the miniatures, which aren't likely to give good quality of the pictures. You can find the full size coffee-table books at most bookstores. I found mine, and several other copies, at a used bookstore in town.

This book is great! The cats in the book have actual paintings and some of them have sold for large sums of money. I only wish the book was larger in size.

I did not notice these were miniature books only 4" by 4", you can't see any of the paintings they are too small.

If you're looking for unusual, easy knitting projects that will look cute on children and be fun for the knitter, I urge you to consider Nifty Knits for Kids. These designs will delight most knitters, and children will cheerfully wear them. They are cute, usable and useful.

As soon as my copy of the book arrived, I sat down and looked at it page by page and had trouble deciding which of the more than 30 designs I wanted to knit first. I found the patterns fairly easy and think they can be made by relatively new knitters. Busy mothers and grandmothers will probably be happy to know that it shouldn't take a great deal of time or money to finish most of these projects, and that the yarn can easily be found. Another advantage is that a lot of these items can be worn more than one season instead of only in the winter. They are definitely "Fun Wearables for Kids on the Go".

Good ideas.......2004-08-03

This book, make clothes fun, has a lot of good ideas. It tells you how to tye-dye clothes using paper clips, decorate your clothes with fabric scraps, and how to weave wtith straws. I would reccomend getting this book from the library if you are over the age of 7 because about half of this book has projects you little kids.

Insightful, intimate, and funny. I feel as though I know Regina - on a first name basis! As she traces much of her life through a series of personal essays that cover everything from ottoman shaped aunts in the kitchens of her youth to sleepless nights in a lazy Connecticut town, Regina shows how complicated, scary, yet beautiful life can be. I would recommend "Too Much of a Good Thing is Wonderful" to anyone who has ever loved, lost, feared or conquered. In other words, I would recommend it to everyone.

I laughed aloud at so many phrases/sentences/paragraphs, the pages are worn out. One of the funniest things, though, was unintentional, I'm sure. I was using a large paper clip to keep the pages from falling out of her book, when on page 101 Regina refers to pages falling out of an old paperback book with cheap binding...same publisher?

Regina is an inspiration to all writers, published or not.

She inspires and empowers women (and men!) of all ages, because she finds deeper meaning behind daily routine, and you will never diet, precisely apply lipstick, watch a horror movie, tune-in to what amounts to "house porn," despise the woman having an affair with your husband, view the "good girl" reputation, think about your father, mother, or brother in the same way again. The guide was pretty much perfect! What can I say? Probably what could've helped it was that it could have been in color (I know its a pocket guide but still...), but in the end I know it would make no difference. But some of the maps would've been clearer if the guide was in color.

What I like about the maps is that they are taken straight from the game and not handdrawn. Oh well, the guide was good, giving a great walkthrough. It also covers the classic super mario bros game so its great when you have to go somewhere and yout can't bring in this huge book (ie. Versus Books and Prima) when you can easily put it in your pocket and then take it out whenever you need it.

Iconoclastic Management Book.......2007-07-28

Maverick is a valuable management book because of many of the counterintuitive ("You just couldn't do that!") concepts that Semler actually implements. It's value lies as much in showing "Well, he did just do that" as it does in espousing theory - without the implementation, it would just be too out there...

Some of the counterintuitive:
- Let managers set their own pay. And publish publicly.
- Don't fire people during a strike. Or even take attendence.
- Get rid of extra management (don't "hoard" talent) but fund their new startups if need be.

There's much more, as well as some less controversial advice ("Treat people with dignity" & "Rotate your managers"), but it's best to read the book yourself to get the stories with the advice.

Learn from the experience of this Brazilian entrepreneur that goes against normal business models and managed to sustained in the market with a highly profitable company.
It is fun to read, it is a business story and not a business history or theory. If you like to read about business, if you are interested in opening your company or just if you think you want to learn about others real experiences, read this book!!

I read both of Ricardo Semler's books, Maverick! and Seven Day Weekend prior to watching the film about Enron. As a 22 year old dreamer, idealist, pragmatist, and economics student, I feel blessed to have been given the opportunity to see the opposite ends of the capitalist spectrum. There's so much knowledge to be learned from the two companies, Enron and Semco. Semco is everything Enron wasn't and is making profit while empowering its employees like no other company on the planet. Business does not have to be analogous to war. Enron's motto was `ask why' and nobody ever did, Ricardo Semler's motto is `ask why' and he hasn't stopped asking. Ricardo Semler will be regarded as the most influential CEO of the 21st century, mark my words.

I think the purpose of the book is to illustrate that if we trust each other and we discuss our diferences we generate synergy and cohesion in any group making it easier for its memeber to achieve a given goal.
