Book Description
The preservation and study of metals in terms of the problems of deterioration and appropriate methods of examination and treatment increasingly involve collaboration between scientists and conservators. The sixteen essays in this volume focus on actual objects from a wide range of periods and
cultures. Contributors include Thomas Chase of the Freer Gallery in Washington, D.C., on the technology of Chinese bronze casting; Paola Fiorentino of the Istituto Centrale del Restauro in Rome on the conservation of the equestrian statue of Marcus Aurelius; Knud Holm of the National Museum of
Denmark on the restoration of nineteenth-century zinc sculptures; Ian MacLeod of the Western Australian Maritime Museum on the conservation of metals from underwater sites; and W. Andrew Oddy of the British Museum on the use of gold foil and wire during the Iron Age in southern Africa.

Flawed and funny characters...........2005-07-11
There is always a debate between comic fans as to who is better: Marvel or DC?
Marvel usually wins out because it is believed that there are more flawed, or 'down to Earth' characters.
Reading this very interesting entry with The Flash and Green Lantern, we see the goings on with two friends as they deal with issues in and out of uniform (particularly Hal Jordan aka Green Lantern): Friendship, financial woes, living up to expectations...(as both The Flash and the Green Lantern meet, and spend time with their predecessors).
I personally didn't really get into these two characters until recently. (I only had a passing interest). Also, with all the superhero films out in the theatres: 'Fantastic Four' and 'Batman Begins' I have gained an interest in all superheroes from both Marvel and DC....(and other publishers)....and pretty much a bigger interest in comic books.
I recommend this book. It's a quick read, and very enjoyable.
I also recommend JLA: Year One, which kicks off the relationship between The Flash aka Barry Allen and Green Lantern aka Hal Jordan....
I Wished That This Story Would Go On FOREVER!!!.......2003-11-08
Mark Waid and Barry Kitson made me a believer in the Silver Age characters with this book. I've always been a Golden Age and Modern Age comic fan. For some reason or other, I'd never gotten around to reading the Silver Age John Broome creations (namely, Hal Jordan's Green Lantern and Barry Allen's Flash). This book changed all that.
Mark Waid understands these characters very well. And he writes their unlikely friendship very well indeed - even surpassing, in some ways, the Dennis O'Neil and Neal Adams pairing of Green Lantern with Green Arrow in the 1970s. For the guest-stars, we have the Golden Age Flash (Jay Garrick) and Green Lantern (Alan Scott) putting in an appearance to guide or "build a bridge" with their Silver Age counterparts. And it's always neat to see another Hard-Travelling Heroes tale (drawn eerily like Neal Adams by Tom Grindberg). Fan-fave villains, Sinestro and the Star Sapphire also appears, rounding up this collection of tales.
Finally, I love the way Waid sums up the characters' chemistry with each other : Hal admires the Flash's freedom and Barry's discipline. Barry admires the Green Lantern's discipline and Hal's freedom. They sort of complement each other in their dual identities and makes the pairing a lot richer. I wished this story never ended...
Dull story telling and drab artwork combine for a snoozer........2003-01-13
Tremendously mediocre work. Spend the money on dinner instead, it's more memorable.
Mark Waid at his best.......2002-07-22
One reason old DC fans love Mark Waid so much is because of his real attention and devoted care for the company's old Silver Age icons, like the Hal Jordan Green lantern and the Barry Allen Flash. Both characters were killed off by the company years ago in favor of hipper new versions, but Waid shows what a mistake this was by showing enormous depths behind this old pair of Justice Leaguers. The cocky, skirtchasing Hal Jordan and the staid, reliable Barry Allen always seemed like the most unlikeliest of pairings, but Waid gives a plausible account for how two such dissimilar men could actually become the best of friends. The best story, by far, is the last, which analyzes the differences between Barry's utter devotion to his dead wife Iris and Hal's neurotic ongoing longtime relationship with his troubled boss Carol Ferris; it builds beautifully off of years of characterization and plotting by former FLASH and GREEN LANTERN scripters (in particular Cary bates and Steve Engelhart), and offers the return of one of most greatly missed Silver Age DC villains, Star Sapphire.
Worth every penny and more!.......2001-12-19
This book is a collection of six stories involving the Barry Allen Flash and the Hal Jordan Green Lantern, telling of the great friendship that existed between these two super-heroes.
The first story is Those Who Worship Evil's Might, in which our heroes battle an alien who wishes to steal mankind's evil, destroying us in the effort. In the second story, Lightspeed, Flash and Green Lantern team up with Kid Flash (Wally West) to defeat the machinations of the Mirror Master and Black Hand. The third story, A World of Hurt, is quite unique, when our Flash and Green Lantern go on a camping trip with the Jay Garrick Flash and Alan Scott Green Lantern (!), and find themselves in an adventure (I guarantee you'll never guess who's behind it all). The fourth story, How Many Times Can a Man Turn His Head, teams up our heroes with Green Arrow to stop Central City's new mayor from imposing a police state. The Man Without Fearlessness is the fifth story, and it pits Flash and Green Lantern against a powerful force that has already destroyed nine other Green Lanterns. The final story, Running on Empty, pits a bereaved, widower Flash and Green Lantern against an old enemy...a very old enemy indeed!
I have been introducing my son to my old passion of comic books, and he and I both love this book. The book is made to a high quality, so you don't sweat the price; it's worth every penny and more! A World of Hurt was great, and all of the other stories were very good, except for the fourth story. The story with Green Arrow was very weak, seeming to be more of a political polemic than a good adventure. That said, though, this is a great book, and my son and I highly recommend it to you!

The big feast has been consumed and now you're all sitting around the living room, feeling bloated and a bit comatose. You could drag out your favorite resentments and have the traditional family fight, or lighten up and tell a joke. Problem is you don't remember any. That's where a joke compendium comes in. Organized alphabetically in topical categories from Abortion to Work, Brown's humor digest is a collection of hundreds of jokes and one-liners by more than 200 of today's best contemporary comedians. There's no index, so you're forced to browse. Skim randomly and you might happen upon Mitch Hedberg's astute animal commentary ("I find that ducks' opinion of me is greatly influenced by whether or not I have bread"), Betsy Salklind on psychology ("I'm not codependent myself, but aren't they great to have around?"), Woody Allen's classic on college ("I was thrown out of NYU. On my metaphysics final I looked into the soul of the boy sitting next to me"). Lisa Goich reflects on dating ("I'm dating a guy who's twenty-one. That's seven in boy years"), Drew Carey reflects on himself ("I'm not a good lover, but at least I'm fast") and Johnny Carson's quoted as saying "If life was fair, Elvis would be alive and all the impersonators would be dead." A vastly entertaining collection of contemporary humor, Brown's collection was tailor-made for the annual family get-together, the six-hour cross-continental flight, and the bathroom library. --Stephanie Gold

Joke Stew provides a hardy laugh!.......2001-04-23
This book is a must have for aspiring comics and comedy lovers alike. Brown's book is a tool that inspires as well as guides those interested in the art of joke writing. The book includes a wide range of talent from legendary comics like Bill Cosby to the up and coming comedic stars of tomorrow. If nothing else the book allows the reader the opportunity to learn what makes these neurotic people tick.

Product Description
From the very infancy of the film industry, filmmakers have relied heavily upon literature as the foundation for their movie material. Well-known literary works such as Dickens’s A Christmas Carol and Hawthorne’s The Scarlet Letter were adapted to film in the silent era, as were such books as Thomas Dixon’s Jr.’s The Klansman, basis for the film Birth of a Nation. In recent years, Nick Hornsby’s About a Boy and each of Helen Fielding’s Bridget Jones’s Diary novels were the basis for popular movies bearing the same names.
A guide to English-language works that have been adapted as theatrical and television films, this volume includes books (both fiction and non-fiction), short stories, newspaper and magazine articles and poems. Entries are arranged alphabetically by literary title with cross-listings for films made under different titles. Each entry includes the original work’s title, author, year of first publication, literary prizes, and a brief plot summary. Information on film adaptation(s) of the work, including adaptation titles, director, screenwriter, principal cast and the names of the characters they portray, major awards, and availability in the most common formats (DVD, VHS), is also offered.

Out Of Date Now :(.......2004-12-02
I was actually one of the people that helped put this book together. I must say that I was a bit dissapointed with the finished product when compared to what we envisioned. The monster listing and loot listings are very handy though, especially when you are trying to level up, but with the curse of deadlines and having to ship to the printer, many things got left out.
Also, since DAoC is a persistent world, there are always updates to the content. When the book came out, it was an adequate resource, but now it is sadly out of date. However, I have high hopes for the Catacombs guide. Give that a look!
u pansys!.......2004-03-20
What is wrong with u guys! Its an ON-LINE GAME! Your supposed to make mistakes and get strong the hard way! Thats what makes it FUN! I could understand you using a strategy guide to beat an Xbox RPG, but not on-line. It takes all the fun out of it! But hey, if your too much of a wimp to make some mistakes on the game, than buy. You'll get strong, but you'll never have true power.
Thankfully there's /respec.......2003-08-13
OK, i'll be first to admit that it's handy to have the book around while i'm playing. having said that, prima really should've done their homework before putting out this "new and revised" edition. Or at least put out free addendums on the net somewhere! If you buy the book, remember that websites like the herald exist that are far more up to date and accurate than this book could ever be. Spell line info especially. DO NOT rely on this book for planning your character spec!!!
I wish it were better.......2003-06-25
The only reason this gets 2 stars is because its a little better than the first version but not by much. Maps are terrible, char guides are bad, inconsistent and wrong, online information is easier to find and use. Mob info is sparse and usless, drop info is just a print out. Sorry I want this to be a good book but its not. If you are totally new to the game you may feel that this is a good companion to your gaming however if you have any char > lvl 40 its kinna useless.
Clear and useful.......2003-04-19
The DAoC atlas is a clear, informative guide to all the zones in the three realms of the original Camelot world (SI expansion not included). Unlike the Prima strategy guide for the game, or the SI guide, it is well-organised and easy to find things in. Each zone has a topo map and a map with major monsters listed on it, as well as information about loot drops and suggestions for hunting. You will want it on your desk!
Book Description
Equations, Inequalities, & VIC'S (1 of the 7 books in Manhattan GMAT's Preparation Guide series) provides a highly organized and structured approach to the variety of questions in this quantitative content area. Students learn fundamental techniques and nuanced strategies to master GMAT algebra in all its various forms (and disguises). The book offers a unique balance between two competing emphases: test-taking strategies and in-depth content understanding. Practice problem-sets build specific foundational skills in each topic and include the most advanced content that many other prep books ignore. As the average GMAT score required to gain admission to top b-schools continues to rise, this guide provides test-takers with the depth and volume of advanced material essential for succeeding on the GMAT's computer adaptive format. Book also includes online access to 3 full-length Simulated Practice GMAT Exams at Manhattan GMAT's website.
Customer Reviews:
DO NOT BUY.......2006-09-21
I have an engineering background and I strongly suggest others with a similar one not to buy this book. I could complete this book and all of its 'exercises' in an hour. All it does is repeats very basic math knowledge which I bet you will not forget even after 50 years from now. All in all bad book for GMAT Equations, Inequalities, & VIC's preparation. Now I have look for ways to sell this book which I bought two days ago... any buyers? not a scratch on the paper and is all in mint condition.
Not helpful.......2006-06-24
This series was a waste my time. They provide long and cumbersome techniques to answering mathematical problems. If one was to do well on the gmat exam they need to practice quick and easy techniques to answer the questions adequately. In my opinion this series needs to review their approach.
Simply the best out there.......2006-03-30
This stands true for all 7 Manhattan GMAT books. Are they a bit more expensive? Yes. Is it worth it? Absolutely. I've had both Kaplan and Princeton books, CDS, other books, and I always felt they fell short. Other books focus on teaching you relatively complex strategies to save time, but ignore the fundamentals. Problem is, you can show me a million shortcuts, but if I don't remember how to solve the problem, the shortcuts only get me to a wrong answer faster.
The Manhattan method addresses fundamentals directly. If you don't remember Geometry, thats fine - Manhattan will teach it to you again, ground up. Have trouble manipulating fractions? Again, manhattan will go over it from the ground up - while showing you a few speed tricks - but the focus is on the fundamentals, not just some "tip". Their philosophy is that if you don't remember the fundamentals of a specific subject, you can't possibly be expected to get the question right - speed tip or no speed tip. The method in which they cover each subject is also helpful. Typically, they introduce a concept, then show you how that concept applies with one or two sample questions, then build on that initial easy question and show you another piece of the puzzle, then again, show you with sample questions. Its very much of a building block mentality - step by step. Understand what an integer is first, then understand a fraction, then understand how to manipulate fractions, then understand different properties of fractions, then combine fractions with exponents and learn how to manipulate those, and so on. By the end of each chapter, you'll end up seeing more challenging problems. I also appreciate that the books really start from the bottom of a topic - the first page of a chapter is typically so basic that you will skim it ("what is an integer") - but in areas where you might be weak, that first piece may actually be very helpful.
The material is also laid out in a much much clearer fashion than most other books which tend to lump huge pieces of the exam together. Each book contains several chapters, each chapter on a very specific section of material. At the end of each chapter are a list of specific questions from the Official Guide 11th edition and the verbal and math supplements that test exactly what was in that specific chapter. So, after reading about, say, manipulating inequalities, you can go practice on ten or twenty or thirty practice questions that specifically address exactly that subject.
To the best of my knowledge, this is the only series of books that ties their own strategies and lessons to specific questions in the Official Guide in this way. The huge advantage of this is two fold: One, because you test your understanding immediately by focusing on exactly the right kinds of questions, you can quickly figure out if you "get it". Second, if you later want to come back and do practice problems of a specific kind because you need to review, it takes all of 3 minutes to find the right page in the book and you have a huge section of practice problems straight from the official guide to go back to. This was one of my frustrations with previous books - finding a specific kind of question that I wanted to practice on was often tricky because the competitors don't segment the content as finely. Other books tend to lump this material together and you have to wade through hundreds of questions on similar material before you find the two or three questions that test exactly what you were looking to practice. On the other hand, if you are having problems with volume questions, you can find practice problems in the Manhattan books that specifically point to EXACTLY that kind of problem. Or, if you have trouble with rate problems, again, you can find exact practice questions that test exactly that. As a result, the Manhattan books save you time - and a lot of frustration. This is particularly the case as you get closer to the exam and you begin to want to review very specific portions of the material.
Also, note that they cover every single question in the official guides. If you do all of the chapters in all seven books and complete all questions listed in the back of every chapter, you will have done all 800 practice questions from the Official Guide and all questions from the verbal and quantitive supplements. In other words, they don't cherry pick the questions to make you feel good. You will do everything from the easy to the hard.
In addition, each chapter contains 15 practice questions that are not multiple choice (so you can't just pick numbers or back-solve). This forces you to really learn the material again rather than simply looking at a problem and testing out answer choices.
As with most books, the focus is on the quantitive side, but the verbal books are the only ones I've read that actually provided tangible help. One of the most amazing strategies you will read about is how you DONT read those long reading comprehension passages. I started using their strategy - haven't read a whole reading comprehension passage in weeks, and I'm getting 85 to 95% of the questions right - as opposed to 50 or 60% (the book explains why this is often the case). Not only that, but if you don't have to read 70 lines of text three or four times on an exam, you easily add 10 minutes of extra time to all the other questions.
In short, buy this book set. Buy the official guides, and you will do fine.

Very good for the target audience.......2007-09-18
"Very good for the target audience" - I think this sums it all. If you are someone who has not done active maths for some time now, and therefore does not remember the concepts involved very well, this is the book for you. This I will say holds true for most of the books of the Manhattan Quant series.
The Manhattan Quant series books cover the concepts only to the degree that gets asked in the GMAT, and do not overwhelm you.
Plus, as each of the Manhattan books then turns to the Official Guide for practice, each of the books has a section where the appropriate questions for that topic are numbered from the OG. They also detail the toughest of the lot from OG. Here I think the book is useful for anyone, irrespective of the personal comfort level with maths.
Therefore if you are true to yourself and practice the questions marked from OG as you go along, this would prove to an excellent resource for cracking the quant part of the GMAT.
