I liked this visionaire. Well I actually liked the denim jacket. I dodn't have time and space to look at bunch of big posters inside the jacket, so I can't say anything about the posters inside. Anyway about the jacket. It looks like a Chinese person or Japanese school boy (if you know what it looks like) if you where it. Jacket is very funny and nice, at least I like it. Buy this visionaire if you want the jacket. Forget about the posters inside it.

Is this really by visionaire? I am very disappointed!.......2000-06-11

After I opened #31, I felt very disappointed. I decided to retrun this book. I can't feel any desgin in this book. About the cover, I have never seen any jeans jacket as ugly as this. I don't think I can wear this jacket outside my room. About those posters, I don't think they were the work by artist or desginer. I don't know why the editor put these photos into visionaire. I can't get any good feeling, any subject or any style from these posters. As a whole, I don't think that is design. That is a box of posters. What is this degsign? How can I look at those posters? Open them, one by one and then put them back into the box! This action like a fool. Compare with #30. I can't believe it was published by same company. I hope #32 will be better.

Excellent -great addition to the DD mythos.......2005-07-25

One of the main strengths is a great combination of characters.
Typhoid Mary is an intriguing character and is an excellent foil for Daredevil's character. Karen Page is a good supporting character, and Nocenti does not whitewash her past. The Kingpin is well-written and his actions are a logical follow-up to "Born Again." Is was especially interesting to see how the characters are coping with the events after "Born Again" (what does Matt do without his license? how does Foggy beave without Matt as a moral compass? etc.) Even the minor villains are well-rounded such as Bullet and his son who is preparing for a nuclear apocalypse.

Many interestng themes -
Daredevil as a man working within the law in his civilian identity but as DD works outside the law. Matt is against violence but uses violence himself as DD. There are also many political themes present too. The DD vs Punisher issue contrasts their approach to the criminal involved.

John Romita Jr's art is pretty good overall. Sometimes the phyisques do not look quite right, but the panel layout is excellent. There are many standout panels - for instance DD being knocked onto the float in the anti-nuke rally and his delusions from his severe injuries.

The ending was a little weak, and those not familiar with the Inferno story may have some difficulty following it. Also, I think some of the stories would have been enhanced if some of the issues preceding these would have included (247-253), but these can be obtained cheaply. But overall this was an excellent story and well worth the money.

analysis of female and male interaction.......2004-04-21

This is one of the best comics I have read to date that explores female and male interaction. Using one of the best female villains that have appeared in a comic book, Typhoid Mary. Duel personalities, with psychotic manipulation perfectly written to create a formidable female foe, or equal - depending on how you overall see the charcter.

Daredevil : Typhoid Mary is a comic that so relevant in so many ways, now that we are living in the 21st century, and the comic was written between 88 and 91. The anti war sentiments thoughtout, the frustrated male posturing that occurs within most of the male charters. The fragility of relationships, i.e. (Karen Page and Matt Murdock's fling with Typhoid Mary's other personality, the placid and timid Mary.) Manipulation, and power struggle between the "powerful" yet vulnerable male charters, and the manipulative and destructible Typhoid Mary. The pages where the Kingpin reveals his loss of his wife. Typhoid Mary's manipulation and power struggle with the Kingpin, which you could relate to women today, gaining more high-powered jobs, corporate etc. Considering the Kingpin represents the pinnacle of male power.

Comics should be written like this, dealing with human interaction and strength weakness etc. Makes the story so much more relatable and interesting.

The disappointing ending with the rushed conclusion, in which Manhattan is overun by Demons halted the enthralment of the overall story. Understandably comics have to run down its moments of greatness and conclude stories, which occurs a lot.

But all and all, if you are a DD fan, or a new fan get this comic. It shows the interesting possibilities of a comic charter that is so contemporary, and so relevant to the current world we live. Excellent

A book with a lot of shining moments, but slacks off........2003-06-10

This book is a little hard to review. It has all the markings of a Daredevil classic -- tragedy, love, conflict, et cetera -- but it also has parts that are mediocre, boring or confusing.

Daredevil: Typhoid Mary introduces a new and great villain to Matt's rogues' gallery. What makes this book good is its relationships between the characters (Mary, Typhoid, Kingpin, Matt, Daredevil, and Karen). This is the best part of the book and I just wish that the author, Ann Nocenti, concentrated more on them. Instead of her centering and expanding on the relationships between the characters she gives in to boring action sequences towards the end of the book, after it started off nicely. There are useless appearances from Johnny Storm (the Human Torch of the Fantastic Four), which were meant for comedic value but come off as childish and unamusing.

And, perhaps the strangest part of this book, the ending leaves much to be desired. It barely has anything to do with what has happened in the previous chapters. Basically what happens is, hell invades Manhattan. (I can't put the blame on Nocenti for that part, though, because it was a crossover event, titled "Inferno," between a lot of the Marvel properties that the editors probably enforced all series to undergo a part in.) It detracts from the overall value of the book and it's a distraction from what we should be paying attention to.

Also, the writer redundantly expresses her feelings on war in a portion of the book. It's worthless to the overall story and she just uses the two main characters, rather unfairly I might add, to spread her pro-peace message. WE GET IT, YOU DON'T LIKE WARS OR NUKES.

If you ignore the Johnny Storm appearances, the peace propaganda, the unexciting fight sequences (the good action pieces are the ones between Typhoid and Daredevil), and the incoherent ending, you've got a pretty good book on your hands.

I know that I've painted a bad picture of this book, but I honestly must say that the shining moments in Daredevil: Typhoid Mary -- such as the taboo relationship between Matt and Mary, the failing connections between Matt and Karen (and Matt and Foggy, for that matter), the unusual and malignant "love" between the Kingpin and Typhoid, and so on -- deserve to be read, for they do make for a great story. Take the good with the bad. It's worth it in this case because the good is really, really good.

And John Romita Jr. shows off some pretty nice artwork.

Don't pass this book up. Its shining moments are worth the cover price.

Great!.......2004-04-09

If you're looking at the reviews on this page/info on the book to just quietly think to yourself, "This is such crud, who could waste their money? You people need the power of Jesus!" then just leave. Subconciously, however, you are interested in the subject. Why else would you be here? Anyways, I bought this kit and was fairly impressed! My spells, no matter how simple they were, always worked. I also found that the doll can be used for more things than love+relationships, I cured my migraines. Believe it or not, I stand my ground.

For what it is worth..........2002-12-20

I bought this voodoo doll for a friend who needed a little spicing up in her love life. She brought the doll home and immediately cast a *love* spell on her particular obsession and attached it to a personal effect of her subject. She came home the very next day and found that her cat had managed to remove the doll from the personal effect and drug the doll off to some unknown death. Rather than find the doll and try it again, she didn't do anything. Two weeks later.....her romantic interest has been null and void. Coincidence? Or voodoo? You do the math.

Enthusiastic but misguided.......2007-07-10

While the subject of this book--the audio recording and film productions of Sarah Bernhardt--is one that has been much needed, Mr. Menefee is not necessarily the best person to have written it. While his enthusiasm for the topic is high, his knowledge of theater, film, and sound recording is deplorably low, making this book sometimes an embarrassingly poor reference work.

The chapter on the genesis of making records in Edison's studio, for example, seems to be a hotchpotch of information, perhaps gleaned by asking someone about it and then writing up what he think he heard. Menefee reports the extraordinary idea that cylinders revolving at 90 rpm hold less information than those revolving at 160, which is patently absurd (the rpms would make the fidelity better, but with the same groove density there would be more information at 90). In effect, the faster cyinders did hold more information, but not for the reason he cites; to make it worse, Menefee does talk about groove density later on, confusingly contradicting what he's just written above.

He uses the phrase 'her unique vibrato' over and over to describe Bernhardt's voice, as though she were the only actor to use such a thing. Of course, in the days before amplification in large theaters, that was *the* way actors were able to enunciate: to spit out consonants and hold the vowels as though they were musical tones with a vibrato. If you listen to *any* recording of an actor of that age, you will hear it (Coquelin, Otis Skinner, Forbes-Robertson, even Barrymore).

There are lots of little slips like that which make the book depressingly frustrating. It would gain 75% just to be better copy-edited by someone who knew both French and English, so as not to be startled by something as odd as "Cyrano de Bèrgèrac."

Finally, it is too bad that such a book couldn't be merely the liner-notes to a DVD that contained the audio selections (there aren't many that survive), and the extant film: but that is far too much to ask anyone at this point in time.

Fantastic.......2001-08-07

This book is an absolute must for Leonard Cohen fans. True, it's not very thick (about 100 pages), but you can pick it up for a good price, and it is packed with TONS of priceless Cohen quotes and many, many excellent photographs. We get quotes from Cohen ("In Their Own Words" indeed), on just about every subject... his songs, albums, books, and poetry, the art of songwriting, his life, religion, other artists, women, love & relationships, and much, much more. We also get commentary and ancedotes on Cohen, quotes on him from other artists, and a larger selection of Cohen photographs than I have seen anywhere else (very good ones, too.) This books comes highly reccommended for all fans of Leonard Cohen.

The Best Series for the Serious Music Fan.......2000-05-18

I have read a couple of the other "in thier own words" book, the ones on Bob Dylan, John Lennon, Eric Clapton, The Beatles, Morrissey, and this one on Leonard Cohen does not disappoint. These books are only as good as thier subject, but what makes them so extrordinary is that they are precicely that, as good as the great artists they are about. Mr. Cohen's book is filled with great photographs and quotes, bursting out for fans to sink their teeth into. Everyone who is familiar with Mr. Cohen's work knows he is considered by many to be one of the premier songwriting talents in pop music history, and this book, better than all others, reveals the core of the man. In his own words indeed. I loved it!

I see alot of familiar material from other authors in this book. Time Power by Dr. Charles Hobbs is alot better and closer to the truth without the padding. Dr. Hobbs was published in 1974. I wonder at the uncanny resemblence of book titles.

Time Power by Brian Tracy is about taking control of your schedule so that you free up more time to do more and more. Using strategies like using a organizer, figuring out what your goals and priorities are, and things like refusing to take coffee breaks are examples of what can be found in this book.

The advice in this book is solid. I especially liked the chapters on organizing your tasks by priority, developing excellent work habits, and overcoming procrastination. The ideas presented are logical and beneficial to maintaining a highly productive lifestyle, while they remain practical and easy to implement.

However I felt I had read this book before because many of the ideas presented in this book are repeated in his other books. I found very little content in the book that was actually new. I also thought the chapter "Time Management Techniques for Salespeople" didn't belong in this book. That chapter should have been in a book directed to salespeople rather than a general audience, and which made me think it was just added for the sake of adding material.

This book is a good read if you never have read Brian Tracy material before, or if you would like to review Brian Tracy's material again. But if you are looking for new material, best to steer clear. 3 out of 5 stars.

Highly Recommended !.......2005-03-17

From your morning commute to your late-afternoon coffee break, your daily travel through time may be filled with costly detours and countless obstacles. Are your days typically disrupted by disorganization and delays? Do you spin your wheels on the dirt paths of life? Fortunately, Brian Tracy offers a concise map around the daily roadblocks. His text provides a toolbox of effective time-management techniques, ranging from New Age-style visualizations ("mental rehearsals") to concrete 15-minute planning blocks. Tracy provides solutions for reprogramming a self-defeating subconscious and for retooling aimless corporate meetings. He suggests useful exercises and summaries, including action steps at the end of each chapter. Tracy apparently designed the book in a way that enables you to digest individual chapters as self-contained units. For this reason, it has redundancies, but this weakness is also a strength. Through repetition, Tracy really drives home important time-saving concepts. We recommend this highly useful, highly applicable anti-time-theft device to road weary executives and staff members who are lost in space and time. This book is a keeper for ongoing renewal.

Take Control of Your Life!.......2005-01-31

This book has dramatically improved the way I live. Most of the ideas are very practical: Actions This Day List, Time planning, Long View and then backward regression to plan your current strategies, Feel Good psychology: eg: Please Yourself, live long and prosper, etc... Character building psychology eg: self-control, self discipline, self-mastery.

While I understand that Brian is trying to look at each aspect of the ideal life in isolation, there are recommendations in the book that may not be practical for your line of work becoz I am in Sales, and our time is almost equally spent on and off the presentation/negotiation table in dinners and drinks with not just prospects/customers but also co-workers and industry people. So Golden Hour, while is excellent for others may be difficult for us salespeople. Where else could we then find the rest required to recover from networking the night before?

However, I would still recommend Time Power to anyone who has trouble managing stress as a result of trying to do too much in too little time of our corporate lives.
