Fashion is rarely seen as a forum for communication. However, Italian fashion designer Franco Moschino has long used it as his soapbox. Moschino, a collaboration with graphic designer Luca Stoppini, presents his shop window, rather than his clothing, as the vessel for communication. New?, 1991) to the vamp (Stop the Fashion System!, 1990; Halloween, 1991); from the theme of world peace (Nobel peace prize?, 1990; No War!, 1998) to a love for animals (I_animals, 1994) and a defence of nature (Love Nature and Nature_you, 1993); from respect for the environment (Ecouture!, 1994) to the battle against AIDS (Smile!, 1992; Safe Sex, 1994) and against social, cultural and inter-racial discrimination (Nord _ Sud, 1994; Love, Peace and...Mix Appeal, 1997)...March 1989 saw the opening of Moschino's first boutique in Via Sant'Andrea in Milan, which provided Franco Moschino with another formidable means of communication-- the shop window.

The shop window was the natural continuum of the shop, but also new surroundings to be dressed, the stage for regular mise-en-scène, another chance for direct contact with the public, an ideal point of observation and a strong means of communication. It could be used to launch messages, moods and opinions, moving-- as in a game of chess-- the pawns of his transgressive imagery and revealing his philosophy of style in an autonomous and alternative manner.

A very biased viewpoint.......2000-03-22

I bought this book with the anticipation that it would give a reasoned and systematic approach to the works and accomplishments of the Designer Moschino. It turns out to be a very biased book, which in no way depicts the true lack of ability this designer has in his marketing of patterned jeans. I would not reccomend this book to anyone who wants a true reasoned account of Moschino's creations, depicting the true nature and quality of his so called works of art.

Intelligent, insightful and original.......1998-07-11

This was the first of a few books from the series which I purchased. I have always had a true admiration for the work of Franco Moschino and this is the first nationally published book about his work. The author has done a wonderful job researching the designer and wonderfully portrays his work.

In four stations located close to the channels connecting the Lagoon of Venice with the Adriatic Sea (two inside the lagoon and two outside it), individuals of Hexaplex trunculus were collected in order to assess their contamination. Concentrations of some organotin compounds, i.e. tributyltin and triphenyltin with their di- and mono- substituted metabolites, were measured and endocrine disruption such as imposex (superimposition of male sexual characteristics on females of gonochoristic gastropods) was observed. Vas deferens sequence indexes (VDSI) of 4.1-4.9 were found in organisms from stations inside the lagoon, and 3.6-4.2 in the sea stations. Organotin derivatives were measured in both the visceral coil and the rest of the soft body of the organisms. Total concentrations of butyltin compounds ranged from 102+/-17 to 432+/-27 ng Sn g^-^1 d.w. in the visceral coil, and from 96+/-24 to 297+/-107 ng Sn g^-^1 d.w. in the rest of the soft body. Phenyltins were found at far lower concentrations, ranging from 8+/-1 to 41+/-3 ng Sn g^-^1 d.w. (visceral coil) and from 0.25 to 32+/-22 ng Sn g^-^1 d.w. (rest of soft body). The degree of imposex in female gastropods, evaluated from VDSI and penis lengths, was related to organotin contents in the soft body. In particular, female penis lengths were significantly correlated (r=0.917 and r=0.982, P <0.05) to tributyltin (TBT) contents and the sum of organotin compounds in organisms.

It has recently been emphasized that high levels of inorganic and organic micropollutants (particularly organometals, POPs and PAHs) may be present in coastal waters at high latitudes, stressing the need to evaluate the effects of contaminants on marine organisms from sub-arctic zones. With this aim, specimens of the blue mussel Mytilus edulis were sampled in polluted and reference areas along the south-west coast of Iceland in July 2004. Samples were collected from the intertidal zone at three sites in Reykjavik harbour which are differently exposed to contaminants, and at three reference coastal sites, two located along the Reykjanes Peninsula and the third one on the northern part of Hvalfjordur fiord. Lipofuscin content, neutral lipid accumulation and lysosomal enlargement were evaluated in digestive cells from cryostat sections of the mussel hepatopancreas, and quantified by automated image analysis. Metallothionein induction was also determined in the same tissue. Results indicate that mussels from the inner part of Reykjavik harbour, which is the most sheltered and most influenced by extensive shipping traffic, were the worst affected, with the highest values in neutral lipids, lipofuscin and lysosomal swelling. At the other two harbour sites, mussels exhibited lower values, similar to those observed in organisms collected in Hvalfjordur fiord and in bay of Osar. Mussels from Kuagerdi had the lowest values.

This is a book about a fashion designer who made the world dream. Also today we can join his mood throught his creations that went down in history. He would have said "Warning: fashion shows can be dangerous to your health".

For those of you who are fans of the hit television show "The Simpsons", you are probably well acquainted with the legendary "Treehouse of Horror" episodes that have become a Halloween tradition. These episodes have proven to be such a seasonal favorite that Groening and the gang have decided to dish out even more tales of terror in "Bart Simpson's Treehouse of Horror: Heebie-Jeebie Hullabaloo".

Hullabaloo is a collection of comics and sketches that cleverly capture the humor and style of the Simpsons Halloween specials. Much like the television version, the main stories in Hullabaloo are parodies of famous horror films. The first story in the book is a parody of the classic horror film "The Blob". In the sketch, Simpsons character Sideshow Bob takes an experimental treatment that transforms him into "Sideshow Blob". Seizing the opportunity to take revenge on his nemesis Bart, Sideshow Blob squeezes out of prison and wreaks havoc on Springfield.

This comic book was pretty good with another humerous approach to to the Simpsons comic saga. Stories include
1. Sideshow Blob-Sideshow Bob is turned into a giant phlem.
2. The Exorsister-Lisa possessed by the spirit of Madonna.
3. The Immigration of the Body Snatchers-Pod people take over and Homer tries to convince them they are here and not crazy.
4. Call me Homer-Famly history of Homer eating blubber in the tale of Ishmael.
5. Bart People-Bart turns into a cat.
6. Little Shop of Homers-Killer Homer plant.
Pretty good book overall.

Mmmm... Donuts.......2001-10-28

I think this book was really funny. I really liked Homer Simpson's Halloween Carols. He is my favorite cartoon character. I guess the funniest part is, when the Simpsons were watching Kent Brockman talking about a plant that eats donuts, and Homer said "Mmmm... Donuts." That was pretty funny. Another funny scene was when everyone in Springfield found out this was just a comic book, and they didn't really exist. Homer said "If I don't exist, can I still eat donuts?" That one cracked me up. I guess, now, you can see why I like Homer Simpson so much.

Hal Foster at his Best.......2007-07-04

Hal Foster was forty four years old when he began writing and illustrating the Prine Valiant stories. Prior to beginning the series, Foster worked as a commercial illustrator for over twenty years. As a mature artist, Foster brought a level of technical skill to his work that elevated the Prince Valiant stories to some of the finest ever produced.

In my opinion, Has Foster was at his very best when illustrating the natural world. The "Return From Rome" has Prince Valiant crossing the high, snow covered Alps and returning to Britain on a long sea voyage. The story is told with Foster's usual competence but it is the beautiful illustrations that make this volume so special. It is hard to think of any artist working in the comic book field who even comes close to matching is craftsmanship. Highly recommended.

Magnificently detailed Middle Ages fantasy adventure.......1999-10-25

Hal Foster's "Prince Valiant" was one of the great adventure comics of the mid-20th century. Initially a fugitive from an overthrown dynasty, Valiant joins the court of King Arthur and marries - without settling down - in a series of adventures set in a vaguely Dark Ages/early Middle Age setting.

In this episode Prince Valiant leaves Rome after a futile attempt to develop a united front against the Huns. Valiant's squire loses his foot but finds a wife, and the Prince returns home to find he has a new baby. A crazy kinglet holds tyrannical sway over petty kingdom and Valiant must fight for his life to defeat them.

Not one of the best episodes, but pretty good and with the great Foster artwork.

Who would've thought it would translate.......2005-02-03

While the PnP (Pen and Paper)and the online computer game version of Everquest is unknown to me. I do know Dungeons and Dragons D20 system.
From the first thing I looked at you could tell someone had to put alot of time into the planning of these monsters. Being a epic book in scope, this planar location/adventure sourcebook is very informative and original. It will be a very awesome addition to my regular gaming group. Frankly, I'm suprised something Everquest caught my attention like this. If your a Dungeon Master with some high level players this is a nice addition.

Congradulations to the writers and to White Wolf for a quality product.

I read this book about once every quarter. After the sixth time, I'm starting to remember the principles (and the mnemonics!) at the right time. If you care about being a human being, truly helping your clients/customers, and doing things "right", this book is for you. I am probably going to have to buy another copy since I've almost destroyed the binding on my first one. I am giving this book as gifts to my colleagues that "get it".

The OJ Rule and More.......2006-06-19

An incredible book. I heard it on tape may years ago and later read it in print, and it's definitely priceless. I'm going to have to find those tapes and convert them to CD so I can listen to them again while I drive. Very informative and entertaining.

The Orange Juice Rule is worth the price of admission all by itself; Weinberg gives much more.

One pricing idea he gave really helped me in a non-consulting role. He says that if you don't really want a consulting gig, but would be willing to handle it for enough money, jack up the price. Make it high enough that you'll feel okay taking it; if they turn you down, that's fine, because you didn't really want it anyway.

I used that idea in a contracting position I was offered. I liked where I was, and didn't really want to leave. I was going to call the contract house and tell them to forget it, but remembered Weinberg's words, and just jacked up the price another $5 an hour; BTW, they were already offering more than I was making in my current contract. To my amazement, they said yes! I was very glad I'd followed that advice, particularly when the company I had been with starting laying people off.

Great book. Very entertaining. I can't recommend it highly enough. It's also interesting (like hearing about an old friend) to see quotes from Weinberg in some of my computer books.

Disgustingly cynical.......2006-05-18

I found the level of cynicism in this book extremely repulsive. Weinberg consults for large organizations that apparently don't really want their problems to be solved or don't accept consultants' solutions, and he has therefore built an elaborate structure of "wisdom" around continuing to take their money and performing pointless services nevertheless. If you find yourself in his situation, you may enjoy this book. If not, read Alan Weiss's book Million Dollar Consulting instead, which offers advice for building a successful consulting practice around genuinely useful services.

Gerald has authored a rare book on consulting - very insightful, relevant, real life - and very entertaining.

The real power of this book is in its anecdotes and analogies. Theory is difficult to imbibe after a while and tough to recall. Analogies have an impact that is profound. Gerald is a master in this art.

Relating the concepts to my work as a consultant, I could gain a lot of insights as Gerald uses real situations to illustrate concepts. However, the real value is from anecdotes like The Orange Juice Test - to help explain how to react to demanding clients in a business development situation.

Try it. It is very potent.
