Amazing how many people needing three hots and a cot from our penal institutions.
The stories are funny but the packaging is so-so.......2002-12-29
The thing here is to not confuse the real-life stupid (and funny) stories with the packaging that these stories are delivered to us.
While each story is condensed to about a page there is a regular attempt on each and every account to hide some little fact at the start of the story, use that hidden fact as the punch line, and then finish the story with some poor pun on the crimial being caught, spending time behind bars, etc.
On any given item it works, but it quickly becomes tedious when reading the book cover to cover.
I think this book is best taken by reading no more than 3 or 4 stories at a time, or for reading one aloud and your next gathering of friends.
The cover price is a little high in my estimation. Get it at a discount and you'll do ok.

One story is funnier than the next. This is one of those laugh-out-loud books that you want to share with a friend (or anyone who happens to be nearby)! Never thought I'd get such a kick out of crime! Fun little book to give to friends.

These idiot crook out-takes are belly-achingly funny. Some of these criminals are so stupid it's unbelievable, but that's what makes it so funny. Not one to miss!

This is the type of book I refer to as a "booty-sleeper." That's what I call a bathroom book* that is really too compelling to be a bathroom book, because it holds your interest so long you forget you're on the toilet until your bum falls asleep. Like Leland Gregory's crazy-911-call books (also booty-sleepers), The Stupid Crook Book is just really funny and stupid and highly amusing. It's unsettling to know there are people this dim among us, but I giggle almost continuously whenever I pick up this book.
*For people who weren't raised with books in their bathroom: a bathroom book is any type of light reading consisting of small stand-alone pieces. It's a book you can open to pretty much any page and read a complete bit or bits within a minute or two--like trivia books, almanacs, collections of short-short stories or essays, and books like this one.

Book Description
This book explores the idea of nihilism, emphasized by German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche, through its appearance in modern popular culture. The author defines and reflects upon nihilism, then explores its manifestation in films and television shows.
Among the subjects examined are the award-winning television series The Sopranos and the film noir genre that preceded and influenced it. Films probed include Orson Welles's masterpiece Citizen Kane, the films of Stanley Kubrick, Neil Jordan's controversial The Crying Game and Richard Linklater's unconventional Waking Life.
Finally, the author considers nihilism in terms of the decay of traditional values in the genre of westerns, mostly through works of filmmaker John Ford. In the concluding chapter the author broadens the lessons gleaned from these studies, maintaining that the situated and embodied nature of human life must be understood and appreciated before people can overcome the life-negating effects of nihilism.

Fine music book of a beautiful CD........2002-02-27
This Songo Music book serves its purpose well. It has all the Italian and English translations of the lyrics, and the music which can be played on piano from this Beautiful CD. So if you want the lyrics in a much easier to read format then in the liner notes of the CD so you can sing along then this is a must buy. And if you want to play along on Piano this is a must buy as well. The Prayer, Canto Della Terra and Songo are just beautiful songs and its a pleasure to be able to sing along.

Andrea Bocelli's soaring voice reaches out and flies with you from the start of the first song, Canto de la Tierra. The music makes you want to cry, laugh and most of all, listen. My favorite's are: Nel Cuore Lei, with Eros Ramazotti, Sogno and Canto de la Tierra.

I am totally in love with the man and his voice, so I join all his millions of fans who appreciate his magnificent voice. This is one of my favorite albums of his collection, and I have most all of them. I may be prejudiced when it comes to Andrea, but then I am not alone. Buy and enjoy. I have for three years now and have not tired of it yet, nor expect to.
Compilation of music scores for Sogno CD numbers........1999-09-19
All the songs in Italian and also the translations are in this book. The piano arrangements are faithful to the keyboards heard on the CD. Moderate, easy to read style. Amazon had this listed as a hardcover book which may mislead you to think this is a book to read about the making of the CD but it is a compilation of the sheet music for each of the songs.....no text other than that. A few promotional photos too. Guitar chords also included. It was just what I wanted.

My dad bought this book for me when I was 9 years old, and I was hooked on making paper airplanes for years--and so was he! This delightful book, first published in 1967, and still in print, brings together plans for the 20 best of the 11,851 entrants from the 1st International Paper Airplane contest sponsored by Scientific American. Some trivia: the smallest entry was .08" x .00003 inches; the largest, 11 feet!. Guranteed to provide hours of amusement, and possibly even inspire careers in aerodynamics. (The polymathic primary author of this book--Jerry Mander--has also written a tremendous volume on the inherent evils of television as a medium, Four Arguments for the Elimination of Television).

Flying wonders from around the world.......2006-12-04
Scientific American is one of America's most well known popular science journals. Part of its appeal is its periodic contests in different fields of science and technology. One of these is a paper airplane contest held annually. The top entires are summarized in this book, one of the better paper airplane books out there. The models range across different size ranges and have a variety of looks. The difficulty in building these models range from light to very difficult, and hence provide hours of entertainment for those willing to use their hands to build some stuff. Some require "cheating" in the form of scissors and tape, but the results are incredible looking models that do really fly. Overall, I recommend this book.
A childhood door to Wonder.......2001-09-01
My dad had this book at home and since we were living on the top floor I had endless opportunities to experiment and litter the neighbourhood with planes made from this book's design. An evergreen favourite is Sakoda's Origami Supersonic Jet.
The first part of the book consists of a superbly eclectic history of the paper airplane with many ideas that will lead may a child of any age into endless hours of dreamy fun.
I found this book again this year in a Seattle bookshop and it brought back many happy memories!
An Inspirational Book.......2000-02-12
In a world of hi-technology, electronics, computers and robotics, it's amazing such a book is still in print. This book has been a great inspiration for me through the years as it has thought me alot, not only about folding paper airplanes. It teaches us all that though we may have super-computers today, it's the creativity that matters afterall, because the best idea could possibly be the simplest.

This was my firt paper airplane book and I have since bought quite a few. It is my favorite and I still refrence it for new ideas. Its designs are more varied than books with designs by just one author. The written portion is also very clever. It makes me hope for another Internations Paper Airplane Contest.

I had the pleasure of doing media relations for Continental in the early 2000s, including the years after 9/11. The Gordon Bethune in the book is the Gordon Bethune you meet in person: incredibly smart, driven, concerned about the people whose paychecks he signed, and satisfied with nothing less than the best. Great read. (I sound like a PR guy... But I mean it sincerely...)
Remarkable Turnaround.......2007-01-22
This is an enlightening book on how CEO Gordon Bethune, together with his team, engineered a remarkable turnaround of Continental Airlines in the mid-1990s and then steered Continental to be a very successful airline. With literary assistance from journalist Scott Huler, Continental Airlines Bethune describes how he transformed the near-bankrupt airline into one of the best companies in the industry. He outlined his four-part "Go Forward" plan for turning Continental airlines around, and offers critical advice to all business professionals. He uses numerous examples, as well as stories and anecdotes; to make his simple, yet profound points.T he challenges faced by Continental Airlines in 1994 are somewhat similar to those faced by many airlines worldwide in the past six years or so, when the industry was going through a rough patch. Many of these airlines need visionary and decisive leadership of Bethune's mould to turn the familiar red ink at the bottom line to black.
The book is well written in an easy to follow and understand manner which enables it to benefit anyone in any industry to gain insights into how to turnaround a loss making business with dysfunctional structures and demotivated people. I learnt a lot from the various examples provided which helped me to get his message across. I also enjoyed the various humorous stories which illustrates how badly Continental used to be mismanaged and how the situation was straightened out.
Although there was a fair amount of repetition which may annoy some people, I had no problem with it as it helped to reinforce the author's message. This book is absolutely invaluable for any manager or leader in any organization undergoing a turnaround process, regardless of size.
light on the details but interesting.......2006-12-18
Continental airlines was a major disaster in 1994. Gordon Bethune did a major turnaround of that company and unfortunately he does not tell us how he did it with the exception of cutting costs. He was so busy talking about how wonderful he was that he forgot to tell us how to turn the company around and not just the end results. It is still an interesting book for those who are interested in the airline industry but don't expect to get much out of it if you are looking for the story of continentals turnaround.
Great read for business people.......2005-12-16
I have been a loyal frequent flyer at Continental since the late 90's, and I have no idea the airlines was that terrible at the early 90's. As a frequent flyer, I admire Continental's plane is always cleaner than other airlines, and the flight attendant attitude is always friendly than others. After reading the book, I understand the reasons.
If you work at a company need to be turned around, this book is almost a top read. For management, there are some good ideas worth considering from reading this book.
This book can be condensed to 2/3. The last one third of the book is somewhat repeating what has been said at the beginning. Otherwise I will give it a 5 stars rating.

This is a great book on how Continental emerged from bankruptcy twice. Bethunes punes run throughout the book which make for easy and enjoyable reading. Even for a college student such as myself.
