Book Description
Can there be too much of a good thing? For Keiichi Morisato, who lives with three sister goddesses - literal goddesses - the good-thing limits are tested on a daily basis. When Keiichi accidentally contacts Peorth, an old friend and rival goddess of his girlfriend Belldandy, Peorth shows up with the assignment to make Keiichi happy...whether he likes it or not! Peorth decides that what Keiichi needs is...well, intimacy (if you get the drift), and so she creates a love potion to draw Keiichi into her arms. But Peorth gets the potion wrong, and instead, any woman Keiichi looks in the eye - girls, goddesses, and even his kid sister! - falls in love with him! When it rains, it pours...

One of the Best so Far..........2005-01-30
This is the book where the fourth goddess, Peorth (First Class, Seconc Category), makes the scene. Unlike Urd and Skuld, Peorth bares no blood relation to Belldandy (to my knowledge).
Keichi is trying to call his sister and accidentily nails the "Earth Assistance Helpline", a goddess office in rivalry with the Goddess Technical Helpline. The stage is set. Let hilarity insue!
Peorth has come to grant Keichi's wish. The fact that three other Goddesses live with him makes her think that they must not be doing their job right (which in turn makes her act slightly cold to them, at first), espeically Belldandy.
Peorth will only grant Keichi's hearts desire... so his wish that she should go home is a bust. In fact, she is personally insulted and sets a bunch of thorny roses on him. (Owch).
Overall, the manga surprised me but in a pleasant sort of way. I expected Peorth, after watching the movie, to be serious and business-like. Instead, she is comic-lover, romantic, and somewhat paranoid... The object of her affections is... you guessed it... Keichi.
Translations:
somewhat paranoid: She is very, very paranoid.
romantic: humorlously perverted.
comic-lover: a bit obsessed.
just so sweet..........2004-08-16
Unlike some of the other volumes, this one is basically one long story. While attempting to make a phone call, Keiichi accidentally calls yet another goddess hotline, adding a fourth goddess to the mix. Peorth, the fourth goddess, is from a rival agency and therefore considers herself in competition with Belldandy and the others. She is determined to give Keiichi his heart's desire, while Keiichi is just as determined to make sure that she won't mess things up. Peorth has decided that the best way to help Keiichi out is to try to get him to have sex with her (it's not as raunchy as it sounds, since she never gets anywhere with him - she just spends a lot of time in skimpy clothes). This volume has to be one of the sweetest Oh My Goddess volumes I have read so far. I love the end of it, it's just excellent. If you've read this series before, and you really like the whole Keiichi/Belldandy almost relationship, you'll love this volume. If you haven't read this series before, it probably helps if you like comedy with a nice dose of romance. There are no character or story explanations, so you may be a bit in the dark, but it seems like it's usually not that hard to figure out what's going on in the Oh My Goddess volumes.
Peorth rocks!.......2003-02-25
Peorth is my favorite character out of AMG/OMG, and this is the book where she appears! She is sexy, funny, dedicated, and clever. She gets under Keiichi's skin without meaning too, which is even funnier! And to find out what her grudge is really about...
Anyway, read this book! In fact, read the whole Oh! My Goddess! series if you haven't already! You won't regret it!
Goddessess up the Yin/Yang!.......2002-02-13
Keiichi Morisato was trying to dial out for food one night, when he got the wrong number, and instead contacted the Goddess Relief Hotline. He jokingly wished that beautiful goddess Belldandy would be with him always.
As a consequence of that wish, he now lives with Belldandy, her half-demon older sister Urd, and her mechanically inclined and overprotective younger sister Skuld. He's coping. Sort of.
So what are the odds of someone making the same mistake twice? Whatever they are, Keiichi beats them when he manages to dial up Peorth, a beautiful goddess who happens to know what Keiichi's secret desires are, and wants to grant him his fantasy.
Peorth will stop at nothing to get Keiichi to admit his desire for intimacy. Showing up nude in the bath to scrub his back? Getting into his bed in black lingerie? Wrapping herself over him as a wake up call? Trying to get him to drown so she can perform mouth-to-mouth? She'll do it.
Things only get worse when Peorth meddles with Urd's love potions, accidentally creating one that makes ANY woman Keiichi looks at fall in love with him. And wouldn't you know it, his sister Megumi is visiting for the day!
Keiichi and Belldandy's love for each other is put through trial after trial, as Peorth attempts not only to seduce Keiichi, but to make Belldandy remember an insult she gave Peorth long ago.
This is romantic comedy at its best, with some of the most gorgeous art I've seen in a long time to help tell the story.
ANOTHER????!?! Oh, jeez!.......2002-02-11
It is said that "every rose has its thorn," (source of quote uncertain), and Peorth is probably the best exemplar of that adage. She becomes a thorn in both Keiichi's and Belldandy's sides.
A mix of hilarity and romance, "The Fourth Goddess," is well worth the money.

Out of 365 days, MAYBE 3 are funny.......2005-02-23
This is the STUPIDEST Calendar ever made....EVER. I got this as a gift from my fiance, and boy I was excited...until I started reading the "quotes". Most of them either are typo's from magazines/papers or headlines from foreign newspapers translated into english that don't quite make sense and are sooooo NOT funny. Even the English speaking quotes are not funny. Those lawyer quotes calendars are wayyyyy funnier than this, Believe me, I laugh at stuff most people shrug at but this calendar has not one single valuable laugh. I wouldnt buy this if it was only $.99 let alone what it actually sells for.

10 STAR REVIEW .......2004-10-26
The 365 Stupidest Things Ever Said calendar is the ONLY calendar worth owning. It's Whiz-Bang FUNNY and also quite functional. I write my daily store list on the back of the prior dates page. The Produce Manager in our local store often finds me laughing out loud while staring at the lettuce. I know he thinks I'm crazy. Don't care. I'm off to buy lettuce now. Maybe today, I'll show him my "store list." Or, maybe not. GREAT CALENDAR. Love it. Keep 'em coming!
HILARIOUS!.......2004-10-26
This calendar is the BEST! If not for its humor, I'd never know "todays" date. This calendar actually makes it FUN to watch time fly. The first thing I do each morning is grab the coffee and flip the page on Petras' Calendar. A good chuckle is a great way to start the day. The quotes are absolutely HILARIOUS! If you possess a sense of humor, you'll positively love it. Kudos to Kathryn and Ross for making each day of the year enjoyable. Looking forward to what's in store for 2005. Keep up the fabtastic work. (FABtastic? Good word. Not editing that typo.) Thanks, K&R!

If you loved "2001: A Space Odyssey," you'll be delighted by this book that asks "How realistic was HAL?" Contributions by various scientists include essays on supercomputer design with regard to speech synthesis, common sense reasoning, emotions, lip reading and even playing chess. As the authors explore what is science fantasy and what is technological fact, they also look at how HAL influenced technological development in the past 30 years. The final chapter, called "When HAL Kills, Who's to Blame?" deals with the ethical aspects of building intelligent machines.
Book Description
I became operational... in Urbana, Illinois, on January 12, 1997.
Inspired by HAL's self-proclaimed birth date, HAL's Legacy reflects upon science fiction's most famous computer and explores the relationship between science fantasy and technological fact. The informative, nontechnical chapters written especially for this book describe many of the areas of computer science critical to the design of intelligent machines, discuss whether scientists in the 1960s were accurate about the prospects for advancement in their fields, and look at how HAL has influenced scientific research.
Contributions by leading scientists look at the technologies that would be critical if we were, as Arthur Clarke and Stanley Kubrick imagined thirty years ago, to try and build HAL in 1997: supercomputers, fault-tolerance and reliability, planning, artificial intelligence, lipreading, speech recognition and synthesis, commonsense reasoning, the ability to recognize and display emotion, and human-machine interaction. A separate chapter by philosopher Daniel Dennett considers the ethical implications of intelligent machines.

High Noise To Signal Ration.......2005-05-25
I guess every geek would have watched the movie "2001: The Space Odyssey" when the year 2001 arrived and asked a question what's missing? Why we still don't have anything even close to HAL? This book tries to answer the question by giving you essays written by experts in specific areas of computing. I found some of the chapters getting really boring, especially those tiring to speculate how HAL would have worked instead of reporting current state of affair. The book is not the kind which will make you sit and keep reading it. The noise to signal ratio after about 100 pages was high enough for me to get distracted and pick something else.
HAL is obnoxious, funny and very interesting........2002-05-28
I always enjoyed HAL's obnoxious
selfconfidence. His insistence that
- No 9000 computer has ever made a mistake or distorted information.
That they are foolproof and incapable
of error -
is funny, absurd, very human, proud and down right crazy.
But at the same time intriguing.
The book look at the issues and technologies
that would be critical if we were to build HAL.
And the book let us in on some of HAL's secrets.
In the process it just all becomes even more intriguing.
An excellent book for anyone
interested in artificial intelligence, cognition
and Arthur C. Clarke's science fiction.
A must have book!
-Simon
Gradually, HAL is coming...........2002-03-26
There are few films that have had the influence of Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey. It is difficult to say how many A.I. researchers were inspired to go into the field by the viewing of the film, but this book is good evidence that research in A.I. has undergone a sort of "public benchmarking" via a comparison with HAL, the arch computer-villan in the movie, and whose name is now ubiquitous in debates on robotics and artificial intelligence. This excellent book is a summary of just how far A.I. has come, as compared to the abilities of HAL. All of the authors acknowledge that the present level of A.I. is not what it is in HAL, but that progress is being made, in spite of, as one author remarked, the fact that A.I. is one of the most profoundly difficult problems in science.
Marvin Minsky is interviewed in the book, and he believes it is the problem of knowledge representation that has slowed down the progress in A.I. Too much time has been spent on chess programs and character recognition, and not on fundamentals, Minsky argues. Minsky also believes that emotions are absolutely essential in intelligent problem solving, and this is interesting in light of recent work on computational models of emotion.
The large physical size of HAL is compared with present sizes of computers in the article of David Kuck. But, the author argues, the human brain is also much smaller than HAL, but such a marvelous computing machine has yet to be emulated by even the best of present-day supercomputers. Size does not matter in matters of intelligence.
The article on error correction by R. Iyer is particularly insightful, for he argues, quite correctly, that making mistakes is a characteristic of true intelligence. HAL's brag that it is "incapable of error" is a sign of stupidity, rather than intelligence. False leads, uncompleted strategies and goals, and inconsistent reasoning are all part of genuine problem-solving.
M.S. Campbell discusses the efforts in machine chess, with Deep Blue of course being the focal point. Comparisons of how HAL plays chess compared to Deep Blue illustrate Campbell's belief that a mere combinatorial approach to playing chess should not be considered an intelligent one. HAL is intelligent because it plays intelligence like a human does, but Deep Blue does not. Campbell also gives an interesting historical summary of computer chess. He cites that example of a "fortress" position as one that chess computers have severe difficulty with.
The ability of computers to speak, and not sound "machine-like" is the subject of the article by J.P. Olive. His discussion gives the reader both an historical and technical overview of the difficulties involved in computer speech. And yes, the song "Daisy, Daisy" is real, and was the first song ever sung by a computer.
R. Kurzweil gives an optimistic overview of computer speech recognition. He details the "lessons" one needs to perform speech recognition and repeats his well-known desire to "reverse-engineer" the human brain, once the computational ability becomes available.
R.C. Schank discusses why he thinks A.I. must be able to understand more than just words, if natural language processing is to become a reality. And, interestingly, he believes that intelligence and problem solving are not necessarily the same thing and gives the reader insight into the difficulties involved in language acquisition by a computer.
This book was first printed in 1997, but given the recent news of a common sense reasoning computer developed by the company that D.B. Lenat heads, his article is particularly interesting. The ability of computers to exercise common sense is considered a fundamental requirement for machine intelligence, and Lenat outlines "3 easy steps" for the building of a HAL-like computer. It remains to be seen whether Lenat has indeed achieved this.
The ability of HAL to recognize images is discussed in the article by A. Rosenfeld. In light of the recent need for face recognition software for security enhancement, this discussion is particularly interesting. Rosenfeld details just what is difficult and what is easy to do in this area.
The capability of a computer to perform speechreading is the topic of D.Stork's article. Noting that speech has both auditory and visual aspects, Stork argues that HAL's ability to perform speechreading is far advanced in comparison to the real computers of today. He discusses interestingly, some of the tools used in current research on speechreading, such as hidden Markov models and neural networks.
The article of D. Norman addresses the human factors involved in living with intelligent machines. Norman contends that 2001 is too optimistic a projection of the future, and, in addition, that its technology is too large and bulky to be of much use to humans.
Computational models of emotion have been a subject of intense interest of late, and R. Picard addresses the issue of emotion and computers in his article. The discussion is fascinating, and Picard clearly believes that emotional states can be recoginized and mimicked by a computer. "Emotional" intelligence is something that must be part of any notion of artificial intelligence.
The ability of HAL to manipulate circumstances and trick the crew members is addressed in D.Wilkin's article. The ability to plan is based on common sense issues, and this is no where near being realized, he argues.
D.Stork interviews Stephen Wolfram in another article, and the reader learns of Wolfram's opinions on A.I. and related issues. Wolfram believes that its the nature of intelligence that must be understood to develop thinking machines, and not just processing power.
When thinking machines are built, legal issues of responsibility will naturally arise. D. Dennett addresses this in the last article of the book. Dennet puts HALs behavior in the context of what a human might do when faced with the mission priorities given to him. Turning off HAL was justified, but so was HALs response to it.
Oh! This is AI...a must have book.......2002-01-07
This book is an ART and amazing. You can learn and know what
really Artificial Intelligence means and you feel happy, relaxed
and enjoyable in reading each chapter.
If you don't want to waste time to read lots of technical
words to understand AI, this book is the only and best choice.
Every chapter will give you concise and clear information, and
also is interesting.
An excellent book for anyone who
is interested in mind, thought, robot, cognition, AI or
just like the Sci-Fi wrote by Clarke.
This is a book for professional AI programmer and
for anyone who just want to know what is Artificial Intelligence.
HAL is based on real research..........2001-07-07
I have only one word for this book: COOL! For science-fiction aficionados everywhere, HAL's Legacy is a review, in 1997 when HAL was supposed to be created, the state of the technology (artificial intelligence, natural language processing, speech processing, etc.) from premier Sci-Fi writer Arthur C. Clarke and leading computer scientists in the area of AI (and other areas) like Marvin Minsky. Are we there yet? Is HAL really possible? It includes deep analysis of specific scenes in the movie and tying it in with the different premises presented in the articles/chapters in the book.
This is one book absolute die-hard sci-fi fans should have, especially if you are working in the high tech sector.

The power of gemstones, minerals, and crystals combine with the wisdom of tarot to create a unique and sparkling deck of full-color photographs.
Customer Reviews:
Boring.......2006-01-12
These aren't even particular stunning pictures of gemstones; they look like you could find them in any book for rock enthusiasts. It's difficult to connect meaning to each stone, unless presumably you're very much a crystal person when it comes to divinatory meanings.
In other words, to me, I might as well have cardstock with the card names on them, and then spend some time looking through a Field Guide to Rocks and Minerals for all I got out of this deck.
Card stock is mediocre.
Beautiful gemstone deck Unusual Tarot.......2005-05-17
I really like this deck. I love the photos of gemstones on each card. Tthese are better gemstone images than those on any of the decks designed for crystal work that I've seen so far. The Gemstone explanations in the little pamphlet are excellent. The Tarot is good too. Unless you have the minor arcana down pat it could be a bit difficult to do a traditional Tarot reading. I wish they had numbered the Major Arcana. I teach crystal healing and Crystal Deva Empowerments and I am starting to use this deck for Gemstone readings and for crystal healing guidance in the workshops and it is working very well.
Beautiful Deck, One of my Favorites.......2005-01-07
When I got this deck on Christmas of 2003, I knew right away this deck was different than most. I unwrapped the package and for some reason, the Queen of Coins card was on the top of the deck, Queen of Coins, of course, meaning wedding, wife, wealth, happiness, and security. Ironically, that morning, my boyfriend had proposed to me, and when I saw this card on top, I was just blown away. I knew right then that this deck was something special.
And I was right.
I adore this deck. While the pictures that make up this deck aren't the conventional ones of most Tarot Decks, they are instead real-life photographs of gemstones and crystals, and I can't help but be blown away by the quality of the pictures. They're truly breathtaking. It's also obvious that the author(s) of this deck did some painstaking research into the properties of the stones and the significance of the Tarot cards, since every stone here is flawlessly matched to it's appropriate Tarot Card. This deck is a brilliant way to learn the properties of gemstones and crystals, and for those of us who use gemstones around our Tarot layouts to help direct energy to the reading, you'll be amazed at the spectacular results you have in your readings.
While I'm sure you can use this deck in a full Celtic Layout method, I have to admit I've only done that a handful of times with this particular deck. Often, I find I get all the information I need when I do a simple three card draw (past, present, future), or even just a one card daily draw, making this deck fantastic for quick, discrete, yet still highly informative readings. I carried this deck with me to work because it was perfect to quickly use and put away, without attracting attention or weird looks from office mates. However, the usefulness of this deck doesn't stop there.
If you're a practicing Wiccan who loves using the powers of gemstones and crystals in your spells and meditations, but you don't have the ability to buy a lot of gemstones, or you need to do something quickly and don't happen to have Coelstine, Charoite, Sapphire, or Gold lying about the house, you can easily pull the appropriate cards out of this deck and use them as a substitute for the stone itself. I have done this a ton of times with a great deal of success.
Also, if you're just getting interested in the world of gemstones and crystals, but you can't remember what the stones all look like or what they're called, this deck makes a perfect "field guide" of sorts to help you identify stones. I have more than once taken a stone of mine and compared it with the pictures in this deck to see if I can figure out what it is. I also use this book with Melody's "Love is in the Earth" book because Melody's book doesn't have pictures and sometimes I want to know what a particular stone looks like.
Another pleasant surprise about this deck is the little, cheapy booklet that comes with it (you know, the small booklet that comes in every Tarot pack?). It's surprisingly complete and informative, making this deck good for the Tarot beginner or Tarot expert. Though, I have to admit, if they had made a companion book to this deck, I'd have been a happy woman.
Overall, this deck is outstanding. I suggest it for people who love gemstones and crystals, and anybody with an interest in the Tarot. I also have to say that this makes a fantastic "first deck" for Tarot beginners who want to practice by doing one card draws or simple Tarot readings before graduating into the more complex spreads and readings.
If you want to see pictures of the deck before purchasing, wander over to Isis Books. While they don't sell it, they do have a section to go to where you can preview samples of the deck which is insanely helpful.
Favorite Tarot Deck.......2001-11-09
I have been collecting tarot decks for the last several years. Although the decks are all considered "traditional" the themes of the pictures/artwork are sometimes not to my taste. This deck uses beautifully done photos of stones and gems with each photo showing outstanding examples of each stone often in multiple stages from natural to fully cut/faceted and finished.
Rocks and gemstones have always drawn my attention and this special deck includes not only the more traditional card interpretations but the influences of the stones pictured, matching rather well the stone to the card. I now have the deck at work and draw a card each morning, reviewing the stone and card interpretations then leaving it standing next to my computer monitor to meditate on through the day.
The deck so intriged some of my fellow employees that they got their own deck and get together on their break each day to draw a card each and discuss the stones in terms of what is going on in their lives.
It has been interesting to watch people who might have been intimidated by a "tarot" deck walk by and want to join the discussion, drawn by the stones and the stone lore being discussed.
Interesting deck, fun to use.......2000-01-02
I ordered this deck to help combine my interests in crystals and in Tarot. It is a unique deck, consisting of photographs of the different gemstones. It's definitely unconventional, and not a deck for beginners, but it now serves a fun purpose in my professional readings. I ask clients to draw a card from the deck, and then explain the properties of the stone they drew. The results are very nice, many of the people draw stones that are special to them already! I recommend this deck as a novelty for collectors, and as a useful tool for readers to start off a reading with another deck. I do not think it is a good deck for doing a whole reading with, however.

A Fascinating Tool For Crystal Healing!.......1999-10-23
One of the easiest to use of any divination cards I've come across. The areas of crystal healing and meditation were clearly explained in the book that accompanies the cards. The artwork for each gemstone is truly beautiful! Bravo! Can't wait to see what's next. I would recommend this to anyone interested in gemstones and crystals.
Healing and Inspiring! Beautifully Done!.......1999-08-11
As a professional reader, I use the AORA Gemstone Oracle Cards as an enhancement for my readings, as well as personally. The artwork is gorgeous and the accompanying book is wonderful. A lot of love went into this particular creation and it shows. The cards seem to draw you into the energy and I have found these cards very healing and extremely helpful in getting to the heart of a situation.

In the few months that I've been regularly using the Aora Gemstone Oracle cards, I've really enjoyed them. They're so easy and fun to use! Picking a card to find the crystal best for me each day is my favorite. Visually the Aora cards are the best tarot or card deck I've seen. Since getting the cards, my personal collection of stones and crystals has increased. I get lost in the images on these cards!!!!!!

Book Description
Succession planning saves the cost and time of external personnel searches. It improves employee morale, lessens the effects of reengineering and downsizing, but most important, it creates a diverse talent pool within your organization. This book was written to guide you through the evaluation process of succession planning. It describes the guidelines for setting up a program, along with benchmarking procedures for ensuring the ongoing success of your plan.

Difficult to See the Stairs thru all the Steps.......2006-07-06
This book was helpful and I believe it will be useful in consulting with organizations seeking help with succession planning. It contains many helpful graphics, worksheets, and checklists. It does not get bogged down in theory but stays, for the most part, at the "how to do it" level.
The book's focus appears to be on the corporate world, vs. non-profits. I believe some of it's suggestions will be difficult to implement in smaller organizations. It focuses on longer-term, ongoing planning rather than emergency succession planning or leadership transition management.
Although the book is generally clear, concise, well-written, and logically presented, at times the level of detail obscures the process being recommended. Steps are given for each stage of the planning process. Often these steps have sub-steps (and sometimes those sub-steps have further sub-steps, typically given in another part of the chapter or in another chapter). Several times I lost track of the logical flow of the overall process as I read through all the (genreally helpful) detail. A brief (1-4 page) summary outline at the end of the book would have helped tie the whole process together for me. I think readers can, with a little work, generate such an outline and that it would result in much useable material (and will serve as a key to unlocking other helpful info in the book).
The book contains some immediately useable (or easilty adaptable) practical tools. However, many of the worksheets were more helpful for the additional ideas that they generated upon further contemplation. At times the worksheets (as presented) were too brief and/or lacked much explanation of how they might be used or of the key concepts they were built upon or referenced.
I am confident that after giving the book a quick read and highlighting, I will be able to give organizations some helpful insights and tools for the important (and often mystifying) process of succession planning. The book was a good introduction, and the right price was right (compared to other brief books on this and similar topics). However, I am still looking for a better overview with more practical tips for non-profit organizations.
The book I read and am reviewing was of the same title and publication date, but was authored by Rebecca L. Wolfe.
Succession Planning.......2005-08-31
An easy, step-by-step guide to developing a succession plan for filling key organizational positions vacated by retirement or attrition. Filled with good examples and exercises that can be used in the workplace to develop the plan. I like books that have forms that I can adapt to my situation. I recommend for anyone tasked to do a plan who doesn't have time to read a lot of theory.
Good introduction to succession planning.......2000-08-30
Especially for the smaller business or the family firm, Wolfe's book provides a concise guide to establishing a succession management strategy. Her writing is free of jargon, and unlike many management books, isn't repetitive or especially boring. I recommend it for anyone contemplating whether a succession management strategy is needed for their business.
