Book Description
Gliding, golden, half-fish, half-woman, hair streaming behind her: from ancient folk tales to Hans Christian Andersen's beloved The Little Mermaid to films like Splash!, these fantasy creatures entice children and adults alike. In artist David Delamare's richly imaginative paintings, they appear beautiful as never before, captured in a dreamy, wonderful sea world. Mermaid embryos lie curled inside bubble-like eggs, floating in the foamy water; another, with swirly tattoos covering her back, sits on a rock, gazing at herself pensively in the mirror; a third sits astride a dragon, her head thrown back in an expression of ecstasy. Also here: the deadly sirens, the "downside" of mermaids who lure men to their death with their irresistible song, plus Delamare's magical gallery paintings and book illustrations.
Customer Reviews:
Mermaid Dreams Fulfilled.......2005-03-31
When I first heard about this book, David Delamare was already a favorite of mine because of his unbelievably beautiful fairy art, and I was absolutely delighted to discover that he'd devoted some of his art to mermaids as well. This book fulfills all my expectations of what mermaid art should be, displaying the mysterious creatures in gorgeously magical settings. The mermaids here are stunningly beautiful and often incredibly sensual (depending on the mood of the painting.) Even the sirens are painted beautifuly, though Delamare makes no attempt to disguise their dangerous nature and gives them a much more sinister look than his regular mermaids. Even though I ordered this book for the mermaids alone, I was also delighted with the "Magic Shows", which the second half of this book is dedicated to. The "magic show" paintings are also incredible; from animals performing tricks to people walking on air, these are no ordinary magic shows, my friends! I highly recommend this book. If you're a fan of mermaids, Delamare, or fantasy itself, do not miss this collection!
Not like his other work..........2004-01-10
I LOVE DAVID DELAMARES ART AND PAINTINGS LIKE THE FAIRIES. THIS BOOK HOWEVER IS NOT A THING LIKE HIS FAMOUS PAINTINGS OF FAIRIES. THE ART IS VERY DIFFERENT, MORE LIKE POSTER ART.
Mermaids Few.......2002-06-05
The mermaids depicted in this book are beautifully rendered and creative in their surroundings. This is an enjoyable book to view as it takes your mind into another world where mermaids reign. Wonderful art work that captures the best parts of your imagination. The only disappointment I had with this book is that there are fewer images of mermaids than I expected. Much of the book covers different artwork that is interesting and well done, but not quite what I expected.
Good, but not great.......2001-05-31
I am extreemly picky about anything to do with mermaids. I love them. I have yet to find a wonderful book about mermaids--especailly one with great art. Unicorns have Unicorns I Have Known--the definative book on Unicorns, but mermaids have yet to have a standard set. I was truly looking forward to this book. I had heard so much about it and was very excited when it came back into print. I ordered it sight-unseen. There are some very lovely pictures in this book, and Delemare's immagination is wonderful. However, I was very dissapointed in the majority of the mermaids in Mermaids and Magic Shows. Their faces and bodies had much to be deisred--not the beautiful sirens of legends. Still, if you don't expect perfection or a book that will truly make you believe in mermaids, this book does have good aspects and redeeming qualities.
Waves of Dreams.......2001-01-13
This book is an excellent fantasy art book. The paintings are very well laid out and clean. The mermaids are as beautiful as Royo's works, but they stand on their own. The details in the paintings are very subtle. The pictures have a very dream-like quality to them like fog and mist. The far off places travelled to and the characters encountered will expand the reader's imagination and make the reader want to know more. You should not pass this book by. It is worth adding to your fantasy art collection.

The Witching Hours
Samhain: 10/31, or Halloween -- traditionally a time to reflect, a time of divination, and a time to honor the ancients. But Phoebe's plans to communicate with her ancestors are cut short when she's recruited to help reunite a star-crossed, magical couple.
Yule: 12/22, or the winter solstice, and the longest night of the year. And when Paige enters an all-night party at a local club, she finds herself at the center of an evil plot to bring about permanent midnight.
Imbolc: 2/1, a time when the earliest hopes for spring are fostered and seeds are planted for dreams of the coming summer months. But Piper can't look toward the future -- and having children with Leo -- when her half-whitelighter, half-witch sister's powers are on the fritz. Is a hybrid baby destined for doom?
Customer Reviews:
Fantastic Book!!!.......2005-12-01
Charmed is a great TV show and I love the fact that each sister has their own unique story in this book! Although I love Charmed and I am a huge fan of all the sister's, my favorite one is Piper, played by Holly Marie Combs. To me Charmed is not just a show about how three sisters fight demons and warlocks everyday, I watch Charmed because in a very big way, they are just like us, and that is exactly what this book implies. Piper wants to have children and have a normal life with Leo, but with a sister's power's gone awry and with the fact that they are indeed the Charmed Ones, Piper feels like maybe having a baby might make things more difficult. Pheobe and Paige's stories were also very good, I enjoyed the whole book very much and I would definately say that if u love Charmed as much as I do, to go ahead and buy this book, it is well worth the money!!!!
seasons of the witch vol.1 charmed.......2004-08-23
this book really is cool. There are three stories in this book one story for each Halliwel sister. The stories isnt long but all the stories ore episodes together is as long as one ordenery charmed pocket book.I enjoyed this book so much couse i could pick out one story that i liked best and read it in a couple of hours.Phoebes story is about that her body is been taken over by another person who wants to free a demon from a love spell.Piper story is about that she is afreid that her baby (not yet born) whould have problems beeing half witch half whitelighter since paige is orbing around town uncontrolled.paige story is about she tired of all deamon ass kicking and goes on a party that is more demonic than she thought...great book
7th Grade Reader.......2004-06-26
I am a very huge fan of this show so I was absolutly interested in this book. The individual stories for each sister was great. I enjoyed each section. With each section I became more engrossed with this book. Please, the writers of this book, make a 2nd volume for us to buy!! Anyways, this book was great, if you like the show, you'll love this book, if you don't know the show, you'll STILL love it!!!
seasons of paige?.......2004-06-03
this is a good book but it focuses mainly on paige not the other sisters, espiecally in piper's story. as a big charmed fan i noticed that in the early paige books they tended to focus on paige there but i thought that was just so that they could establish her character after the lost of prue. but now it seems that she a bigger focus in all the books even though she's now been in more books than the character prue. i think the writers should share out the characters roles more evenly.
this is a good book though in the fact that in infuses a bit of every day practiced wicca into it when it focuses on certain rituals preformed at certain times of the years.
overall it's a good book but not if you've had enough of paige
Nice printing.......2004-04-28
The best thing about this book is the appearance. It's got cool cover and nice printing. It uses better quality paper (whiter - very friendly to the eyes). Larger than usual Charmed books. The first and second story are good but the last one is a bit boring. If you're a Charmed fans, buy it anyway. It's good addition to your collection.

Book Description
Degrading daliances in dungeons. " A lavishly illustrated European import that goes behind the scenes of a nineteenth century London feminist witches' coven." -Face London, in the last third of the 19th century. After bringing death to her mother in childbirth, and shame and suicide to her father due to her illegitimacy, young Lilian Cunnington is shipped off ther her aunts near Conventry. As it turns out, Lilian's aunts are the leaders of a coven of witches, whose twisted rituals frequently involve their nubile charges in grotesque exhibitions. Soon, Lilian, tapping into both her unsuspectedly powerful psychic abilities and her omnisexual potential, begins to uncover the darker secrets of the coven, and the resultant battle of wills ends in a climactic conflagration. Illustrated by the interationally renowned South American cartoonist F. SOLANO LOPEZ (creator of such acclaimed graphic novels as Deep City and Ana), Young Witches is a tale of magic and power, of sex and sadism, of witches and mutants - a supernatural thriller that will scare you and arouse you at the same time. As a special bonus, this expanded version of Young Witches includes extra pages of sizzling, explicit sex action created especially for this edition!
Customer Reviews:
First in a series.......2005-03-29
A collection of four black and white graphic novel comics in one volume by Solano Lopez and Barreiro (the comics have a copyright date of 1992-1996).
London, 19th century. Lilian Cunnington's mother died in Lilian's birth and Lilian's father committed suicide. Lilian was raised by her aunts. The aunts take pleasure in punishing Lilian, and pleasuring themselves, but the time has come and Lilian must go to witch school.
Lilian is delivered to this special school and her powers are immediately tested. Oddly enough, despite not knowing her gifts, her natural abilities appear to be quite strong. At the school, Lilian and her classmates (all female) are taught the history of their witch order. Lilian is told that men are more or less evil (or at least want to hold women down) and her classmates try to force her into lesbianism. At the school Lilian develops a rivalry with another student, Agatha. They fight, they bicker, they kiss.
To reinforce the evilness of men, the teachers at her school have her raped by some men. Later they seduce a young man she fancies and let Lilian find him in an orgy.
The drawing is good, though hindered by being black & white (oddly enough, some later volumes are in color, and are somewhat hindered by being in color as some of the black and white shading were carried forward to the color versions and obscure the pictures). The plot is ok, and some hints are left to indicate the setting. The characterization and personalities of the main characters are quite developed, though rather shallow for the side characters.

Bedtime stories will never again be the same--at least not after reading James Finn Garner, who, in surprisingly true Fairy Godmother fashion, waved his authorial wand and revised a large collection of fairy tales and holiday lore in Politically Correct: The Ultimate Storybook. This volume compiles his three separately published books, Politically Correct Bedtime Stories, Once Upon a More Enlightened Time, and Politically Correct Holiday Stories, examining the many "isms," whether glaringly obvious or more subtle, inherent in traditional favorites.
The tales begin similarly to their Brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Anderson predecessors, but veer suddenly to incorporate non-offensive, politically correct language and modern issues that range from overzealous lawyers to rampant real estate development to the destruction of the environment. Garner refashions over two dozen tales including Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella, plucking damsels and the disenfranchised from captive plot lines, increasing their self-awareness, spunk and dialogue ten-fold, then settles them comfortably back into tales where they can live happily ever after as confident, happy, successful entrepreneurs with a social mission.
The disclaimers preceding each of the three sections, as well as the abundant use of politically correct speech throughout the collection, appears at times more of a pointed mockery than a true attempt to enlighten stories locked in medieval thought. The tales do however, offer a witty and clever alternative to spoon-fed tradition. --Mara Shurgot
Customer Reviews:
Great fun. Somebody really needed to write books like this, and I am glad he did..........2006-12-19
Kudos to Mr. Garner. I have read all three books. I think the bedtime story book 1 and the Holiday story book are the best. I am employed in a large metro area, where we seem to be inundated with all this touchy-feely, politically correct stuff - I see it in memos and we have training to attend from time to time where we hear terms like those in the books. Garner does such an excellent job showing how ridiculous it can get and how ridiculous many of them are. Any time I need a good laugh I read one of his updated stories, and have a good "belly laugh". I absolutely love these books.
Best Book in the world.......2006-05-27
This book is hands down the best book in the world. It is extremely intelligent and is the most interesting book to our imagination.Brilliant humor in every paragraph or sentence for that matter. There was no book like it..of course, now others are expanding on Mr.Garners idea.I have the shorter version but it was disappointing as it didnt have all of his humorous stories..this book,Once Upon a More Enlightend Time etc..is the book i take everywhere.I do not get tired of reading the funny terms..definately takes away the realities of reality and grumpy people who have no sense of decent humor.Lighten up,have fun with this book.Mr.G,your a GENIUS.
Great Book!.......2003-07-08
This was very entertaining to me. Read the whole thing with a grin on my face. I really enjoyed the authors humour in telling the stories over only in a politically correct way. Great read for anyone needing a smile.
Very funny, boys, very funny, ha ha ha.......2002-09-01
I first read some of these stories quite a while ago. I enjoyed the Snow White story quite a bit, and having spent some time in a trailer park, I can easily understand the people in Pied Piper of Hamelin. Although I am not a feminist and think personally that the old values are better than the new ones, I can still appreciate the humour in most of the stories. I can't say I enjoyed all of them though.
Mostly the reason I got this book was because of the Christmas collection, which is by far the best set of these stories that James Garner has done. This section gets three of my stars.
"The Night Before Solstice" is a very well-done parody. "The children were nestled all snug in their beds, dreaming of lentils and warm whole-grain breads..." He talks about how overfed Santa is and how bad smoking is for Santa's health.
"Frosty the Snowman" concerns two argumentative children who build a snowman and when he tells them he's going to melt, they march to Washington to protest about abuse of the ozone layer.
"Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer" is the story of a disliked outsider who suddenly became OK to Santa when Santa could get some use out of him. But Rudolf won't have any of it. He says the deer are underprivileged and need a more flexible work schedule and a retirement plan.ù
"The Nutcracker" is in here too, but at the time I read it I didn't know the real story and therefore it didn't make any impression on me.
The there's "A Christmas Carol"... You know, the story that begins with that famous line: "Jacob Marley was non-viable." The ghosts try to teach him all he needs to know. The second one in particular I remember. He was a fat slob and went from house to house to raid the fridge. When all is said and done, Scrooge decides he's a victim of circumstance like Diminutive Timòn... It's all quite involved and you really have to read it for yourself. But it's very funny. I've read it many times. (I recommend that you read the real story by Dickens first - it's not that long - it will make you laugh more at the PC one.)
So if for nothing else, get this for the Christmas section.
Great Book.......2000-12-13
This book was funny, witty, and had a wry sense of humor. The author, James Finn Garner, has commented on our modern society in a politically correct manner that will have you howling with laughter. He satirizes traditional fairy tales and folk tales and yet they have a charm of their own!! I am sure you will love this book. My hobby is storytelling, and audiences really love these stories.

truly funny.......2003-06-18
Garner takes some of the most beloved childrens stories and turns them into the most perfect polically correct stories possible by removing any possibly offensive thoughts. In doing so, he has turned the idea of political correctness on its ear. By making the story as politically correct as possible, Garner has shown how stupid political correctness truly is. This book is not for the pollitically correct, but for those who want to needle them. Garner used different spellings of women to wommon so there wouldn't be a reference to men with women. He even apologizes in his introduction for not being politically correct enough. This is truly funny and the politically correct will miss the forest for the trees. Highley reccomended.
PLEASE re-print this........2000-11-21
This is a great series of stories. I bought these for my first daughter when she was still in the womb. We reaad them to her all the time before and after her birth. Now I want them for my niece and nephew. They are more for the adult than the child, but when they are a year and under you'll both love them.

Book Description
From Hollywood back lots to the Oval Office, here is the authoritative story of super-agent Lew Wasserman and his politically savvy wife Edie. Lew joined the Chicago band-booking agency, MCA, during the peak of cinema’s Golden Age, and while he wooed top talent into MCA’s stable, Edie socialized with such stars as Jimmy Stewart, Errol Flynn, Olivia de Havilland, and Jane Wyman. Lew became a master producer of television and film, shepherding such blockbusters as Jaws, Animal House, E.T., and Jurassic Park. Edie showed her own genius by cultivating political stars like Bobby and Ted Kennedy, Lyndon and Lady Bird Johnson, the Carters, the Reagans and the Clintons. This first dual biography of the Wassermans is essential reading for everyone interested in movies and television and how power is wielded in America. 16 pages of black and white photographs are included in this enthralling book on the famous couple.
Customer Reviews:
Mr. & Mrs. Hollywood -please it can only be THE KING & QUEEN!.......2006-12-26
Once upon a time... they used to call Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pickford Hollywood royalty. But from the 1940's through the 1990's, the crown was placed squarely on the heads of Lew and Edie Wasserman. And in Hollywood, there were no arguments over that! Kathleen Sharp has taken on the task of personally interviewing super-agent, super-mogul and super-powerful Lew Wasserman for this book. Sure he spoke to her, but let's face it he was never the type to REALLY disclose anything about himself or his dealings. So Kathleen has had to tread very carefully, threading together bits and pieces from close friends and associates. And they say behind every great man there's a woman, in this case the absolute power behind the throne was Edie. For those that were unfortunate enough to incurr the displeasure of Lew, Edie could be much worse. Yet their good cop, bad cop roles were always inter-changeable. From Cleveland to Hollywood to Washington, their kingdom was no fairy tale. Together they were a team that could build a career or bury it, whether for actors or politicians -that is if there is a difference. They could be both charitable and ruthless, even at the same time. Always defensive of her MCA-UNIVERSAL husband, Edie was the power at home and on the Hollywood social circuit.
It's a good book that concentrates as the title implies on the couple, over other books that have formerly detailed just Lew. Actually, it really compliments "The Last Mogul" dvd which is also available on Amazon. Alas, today's Hollywood is without their like. They're all too busy making money and running, to stand on any ceremony or tradition!
The Real Inside Scoop at Last - Brilliant!.......2004-01-05
This is an important book. I've been waiting a long time for someone to report the insider details about how the Wassermans impacted U.S. politics as early as John Kennedy's election, how their mafia ties helped them control and skyrocket their entertainment empire, how Lew himself wheeled and dealed alternately like a king and a common criminal. This man had more federal investigations into his business than Enron, but he came out smelling like a rose every single time. Wonder why? The answers are here. Today, all of us - people around the world - have been shaped by the Hollywood-based entertainment media. How did this happen, and what does it mean to you and the future? For answers large and small, this is the one book to read.

Book Description
Revolutionary techniques that traders can implement to improve profits and avoid losses
No trader, professional or individual, can afford not to have a solid risk management program integrated into his or her trading system. But finding a precise mathematical model to replace subjective decision-making processes is a challenge. Traditionally, risk management has focused solely on loss avoidance, but in Trading Risk, hedge fund risk manager Kenneth Grant presents some-thing completely new—how to manage a portfolio to minimize risk and increase profits by putting more capital at risk. Trading Risk details a risk management program that can help both money managers and individual traders evaluate which elements in a portfolio are working efficiently and which aren’t. By illustrating an extremely simple set of statistical and arithmetic tools this book can help readers enhance their performance in many financial markets.
Kenneth L.Grant is Cheyne’s Global Risk Manager, and is the Managing Member for Cheyne Capital, LLC, the firm’s U.S. arm. Mr. Grant is a pioneer in the field of hedge fund risk management and capital allocation. Before joining Cheyne, he created risk control programs at two of the world’s leading hedge funds, Tudor Investments and SAC Capital, where he was eventually promoted to the title of Chief Investment Strategist. Mr. Grant holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Mathematics from the University of Wisconsin, an MA in Economics from Columbia University, and an MBA from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business.

Customer Reviews:
A decent book on risk.......2006-10-01
I think this book covers the topic of risk adequately. I got it last year and finally got around to reading it this week. If I had to buy it today I would probably pass, at $55 its twice what I paid for it in November. Someone must really like it?
I read this book to further refine my risk strategies. What I found was a book that explained risk in detail, but did not seem to offer me much in the way of finetuning my system. Although it did give me more confidence in my system and confirmed to myself that I am on the right road.
I liked the story of one risk manager from the book. This person had pages and pages of complex mathematical formulas to arrive at his funds risk levels. But if you turned over the page it said "equals five percent". LOL. So my 5% risk strategy has been correct all this time and I didn't have to use a Cray supercomputer to arrive at that number!
If you are new to risk assesment or need to figure out complex hedging risk strategies this is a good book. If you have a pretty good understanding of risk already, you may want to pass on this book.
Basic with good ideas but nothing exceptional. Very common sense stuff........2006-08-25
I suppose if I had read this when I started to trade 14 years ago, it would have helped me. If you've traded for more than four years, you should already know most of the things covered in this book or you are an ex-trader. The book is mostly targetted towards money managers which is somewhat different from what I do which is proprietary trading in fixed income. The book will help you understand to risk less when you are down and risk more when you are up. Nothing earth shattering. I personally liked "Fortune's Formula" a lot better although the subject matter differs. Overall a good solid book for a novice trader.
Dissapointed. Not practical........2005-08-12
If you are looking for a book whith detailed risk management techniques this is not your book. This book is oriented to money managers that are currently aplying risk control and want to read some stories about that. There is no practical information that allows the reader to implement a real risk control mechanism. Just ideas like "keep your volatility below 10% of your trading capital" or "make a correlation analysis of your P/L with everything to see if you find something". Too much stuff to say "be prudent"
If you want to understand the mathematics of money management, risk control and position sizing you'd better read RALPH VINCE. I suspect that those that are publicy dissapointed with optimal f do not understand the issue very well. In "the new money management" by Vince you have a clear procedure to obtain the maximum profit from your money with the risk level you are comfortable with. (dynamic fractional f).
If you (like me) are looking for new ways to get the best for your money, with examples and practical demostration of the statements so you understand every single line do not buy this book. I does not provide that.
A good course on Trading and/or Trading Risk Management.......2005-06-13
Perhaps some reviewers might disagree but to me this is just an intermediate to advanced level trading book that focuses primarily on risk management with decent coverage of systematic risk management strategies or tools (say, correlation analysis on P/L vs holding period, VAR, number of positions, exposure level etc etc) plus many vividly written stories of traders anonymous that help traders of all levels to sharpen their edge.
To those traders who are willing to go and work the extra mile for better defense in the trading battlefield, it can really help, for sure. In other words, those who are already preparing their own daily trading journals or have somebody else to complete the job will definitely benefit from the advice of this book. However, if you wont bother to do even the minimal daily book keeping job, not to say those relatively complicated analysis made easy by software readily available in the market, please give this book a pass.
Trading Risk by Kenneth Grant.......2005-01-29
Unlike most financial authors, Grant has the highest credentials, having been entrusted by legends like Paul Tudor Jones and Steve Cohen to calculate risk on their billion dollar portfolios. Many traders ignore the subject of risk as too dry, even though it is far more important to trading success than buy and sell signals. Grant makes this argument well, and his advice about going against one's natural emotions during drawdowns is alone worth the price of the book. It is disrespect for risk that kills most traders (including professionals) - reading this book could save your trading career. I recommend reading it in conjunction with Taleb's 'Fooled by Randomness' to drive home the importance of measuring risk more conservatively than you might have imagined. Essential reading.
