Book Description

Spider-Man and Captain America: Stars, Stripes, and Spiders (Spider-Man Team Up)
ASIN: 1599610051 |
Book Description
Stan Lee, the Mighty Man from Marvel, and John Buscema, active and adventuresome artist behind the Silver Surfer, Conan the Barbarian, the Mighty Thor and Spider-Man, have collaborated on this comics compendium: an encyclopedia of information for creating your own superhero comic strips. Using artwork from Marvel comics as primary examples, Buscema graphically illustrates the hitherto mysterious methods of comic art. Stan Lee's pithy prose gives able assistance and advice to the apprentice artist. Bursting with Buscema's magnificent illustrations and Lee's laudable word-magic, How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way belongs in the library of every kid who has ever wanted to illustrate his or her own comic strip.
Customer Reviews:
Non Fiction.......2007-09-03
An entertaining look at how the comic work was approached at Marvel way back when. I can't draw, and have no real desire too, so basically got this out of interest.
As far as that goes, it was a reasonable read. For actual artistic types it is probably a bit more useful.
The best way to draw a comic.......2007-08-31
The reason why I bought this book is because I want to learn how to draw comic for hobbie, and Stan Lee really explain everything so nice and easy that any person will learn, the draws by Joe Buscema are just perfect. The book introduces you to many vocabulary of the industry of comics, is a very complete book. If you work in the comic industry, this book is a perfect beginnig and if you are a comic fan like me, then you must have this masterpiece.
An excellent lesson for the aspiring cartoonist and a worthy read for anyone who marvels at Marvel.......2007-07-12
Personally, the only way I could draw an excellent square is if you spotted me three of the sides. I grew up reading Marvel comics and had the good fortune that my parents went grocery shopping at a small neighborhood store where the owner allowed me to read the comics while they shopped.
Therefore, I read this book not as an aspiring artist, but as someone who is interested in and can appreciate the artistic talent that went into making Marvel comics the success that it is. And from that perspective, this is an excellent book. In a few captions and example illustrations, the many ways in which the dramatic effect can be enhanced are demonstrated. Using these techniques the superheroes appear more heroic and the villains even more villainous.
If you are like me and just appreciate Marvel comics or want to become a better artist, then this is a book that will be of great value to you.
A Foundation in Drawing.......2007-07-11
I have some graphic art experience. Our instructors always emphasized the fundamentals of drawing. With computers today many believe you don't need to know how to draw. They are wrong.
"How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way" is more than just learning comics it is learning how to draw. It is one of the best area to begin. If you are advanced maybe you will pick up some ideas from the powerful examples. It starts with the tools, then perspective, to stick figures, to motion, to faces, to putting the panels together, and finally inking.
If you can draw comics then you can draw anything. I don't consider myself to be a good artist. This book is where I started, and I have improved ever so slightly. There is just something about comics that intrigues people. There is the fact of the art and all its meaning and ideas that come from it. There is also a story told by the art with panels that allow the reader to visualize the world the artist created. If that is what you want to do then this is the book to start with. That is the drawing aspect and not the layout or story telling theory.
I also recommend "Draw the Marvel Comic Super Heroes" and "Super Heroes" by Joe Kubert. (And as always feel free to check out my Amazon profile.)
Comic Artist Bible.......2007-07-06
If you are endeavoring to be ANY kind of artist, I highly recommend this book. Stan "the man" Lee and John Buscema have made it the most simplified, yet exhaustive, step-by-step process for any artist to follow. Your artwork will benefit greatly; from the tools you need, to perspective, shadows and highlights, pencil techniques, inking techniques,... it's ALL here in one nicely illustrated and fun to read collection. I consider this an invaluable resource.

Product Description
A motherlode of comic history, Marvel Comic Book Library Vol. 1 captures the first 10 issues of 10 classic comic books on one unbelievably priced CD-ROM. Most are from Marvel's Golden Age in the 1960s--Spider-Man, Hulk, Daredevil, Fantastic Four, Captain America, the Avengers, the Sub-Mariner, Iron Man, and Silver Surfer. The exception is the X-Men, who were also created in the 1960s but are represented here by the 1970s incarnation that soon became the hottest property in comics with the introduction of such characters as Wolverine, Colossus, and Storm (their 10-issue sampling begins appropriately with Giant-Size X-Men #1). And with that same exception, all the series were written by Stan Lee, most often with art by Jack Kirby but with other Marvel Bullpen denizens such as Steve Ditko and Wally Wood.
Navigation is easy, with a main character menu followed by cover thumbnails. (Minor quibble: the main menu uses more modern art, for example, the John Byrne Fantastic Four.) Some other points of clarification: the Captain America stories are from his solo series in Tales of Suspense (issues 59-68), which he shared with Iron Man. Those Iron Man stories, however, are not included here, and Tony Stark's alter ego is represented by his initial appearances in Tales of Suspense 39-48. Similarly, the Sub-Mariner is represented by his solo run in Tales to Astonish (issues 70-79), which he shared with Hulk, who is represented instead by the first six issues of his own book then four stories (issues 60-63) from Tales to Astonish. And the Silver Surfer's issues are from his solo series rather than his initial appearance in Fantastic Four.

Non Fiction.......2007-09-03
The Official Batman Batbook is about the 1960s Batman tv series. It has an episode guide, and it looks and the cast and crew, as well.
The book talks about the origins of the series, the environment it was created in, and the place it held in the culture at the time, and now.
The best I have seen.......2003-01-29
This is the best Batman book I have ever seen. So jam-packed with information.
The Guide to the TV Series.......1998-04-21
Wonderful information for any true Batfan. This book has every episode in detail and has a listing of all the episodes. Interviews from many performers on the show ( not Adam West or Burt Ward (: ) Great book but hard to find.
Holy superfluous fun!.......1998-02-05
The "Batbook" offers an embarrassment of riches for fans of the 1960s Batman TV show. It includes all the essentials -- synopses of every episode, a good overview of the show's origins and casting, loads of photos of heroes and villains, and the lowdown on the 1966 Batman feature film. There are also tons of tidbits you never needed to know: A compendium of every "Holy...!" utterance that ever escaped Burt Ward's breathless lips, for instance, and an inventory of the bat-gadgets used in each episode.
What's best about the Batbook, though, is the behind-the-scenes insights gleaned from original interviews with Alan Napier (the show's trusty Alfred), several writers, and bit actors who played henchmen to the featured baddies. Alas, Eisner didn't get access to the Dynamic Duo or any of the big-name villains, and relies for their perspectives on excerpts of previously-published interviews. Nonetheless, it's an amusing read for anyone ZAP-ped by the mid-60s bat-bug.

Customer Reviews:
A great asset to any public speaker or presenter.......2007-05-08
I wish I had read this book a long time ago. It is consise and an interesting read. Above all it has provided me with several great tips on improving presentations which I have already started to use. Unbelievably, both my audience and I have noticed the difference.
Didn't finish it!.......2007-04-27
While some stories were interesting to listen to; there just wasn't enough substance to the (audio)book. I didn't finish listening to it, and unless this is your first book on leadership, I would recommend against it.
More could be gotten from a public speaking book and a few leadership books (Tom Peters is my latest read who is pretty good).
Mike
A true resource.......2007-01-11
The author knows of what she speaks! A former reporter, she has seen the good, the bad, and the ugly and helps the reader be one of the good, if not the great. Useful, practical tips for anyone who wants to be more successful both professionally and personally. Well worth your time and money.
Public speaking essentials.......2006-11-30
For anyone who wants to learn about basics on how to conduct public speaking engagement in front of business audience, this is a good starter book. You will learn on how to tell the story, build the humor and keep everyone's focus in place while presenting. Like everything else in life, this skill requires preparation, practice and planning. You must not only know what you are talking about, but also know your audience too. I particularly liked the part of the book with tips on how to answer questions not anticipated during the preparation process (trigger method and making a qualifying or opinion statement).
Worth the read.......2006-11-27
I'm a professional speaker, and was critiquing this book to see if I would recommend it to others. It's a very simple read - you'll get through it in a day or so, I'm sure. It's got some good basic tips, and some interesting insights into leadership styles. The important thing is to DO what the book recommends - not just read it and think the info will infuse into your psyche!
I do recommend it - it would make a good gift for a mentee, as well.
