The sharpest social commentaries in cartoon humor form.......1999-11-19
In latin America, Quino is loved by millions for his unforgetable strip called Mafalda. Besides that, and of better quality, are his cartoon strips published in newspapers and magazines. With a simple line draw, and mostly without words, he tells stories with a puchline that makes you laugh, makes you sad, and makes you wonder at the same time. They are about politics, relationships, power play, sociology, and art in a surrealistic and sharp wit. You will enjoy these strips over and over, and they age like good wine, the more you know about society and life, the more you will ponder them.

Book Description
First it was a hit movie. Now it's a much-demanded trade paperback. Get the whole CLERKS story in this essential new book of laughs and profane liberties. From the pen of Writer/Motion Picture Director Kevin Smith (Clerks, Dogma, Chasing Amy) comes three all-new adventures of Dante, Randal, Jay & Silent Bob, and all the customers of the Quick Stop Mini Mart that first appeared in CLERKS, his surprise critical and commercial debut film. These brand new tales follow the exploits of America's favorite slacker icons as they seek out the rarest of Star Wars toys, become employees of Kris Kringle, and get the scare of their lives in a crucial, much-talked-about, lost sequence that did not make the film's final cut. As in the now-classic feature film of the same name, all the mysteries of life are dissected through the myopic lens of pop culture under a full-color photo cover featuring slack cultural icons, Jay and Silent Bob. The funeral parlor lost scene is of much interest to film afficionados and features an all-new introductory sequence. Clerks is presented in black and white to coincide with the film, also in black and white.
Customer Reviews:
Just As Fantastic As The Movie.......2006-08-01
These stories are unbelievable!! Kevin Smith has come through once again with these stories which are just as funny as the movies. There are jokes in here that will have you laughing out loud, and there are some moments in here that will fill you with the Christmas Spirit. There is even a scene that was actually emotional. Dante and Randal are the main focus in these stories, since it is about "Clerks". Other characters from the View Askewniverse are also in these stories, even the return of Caitlin Bree!! There is even a scene with everyone's favorite guy who just wants to see the sailboat, you know who I'm talking about. If you loved the movie, you will love these stories too. They are just as witty and funny, with a little true drama thrown in, as the movie you have come to love. As a fan, you owe it to yourself to pick this up, it is worth every penny!!
a must for any kevin smith fan.......2006-05-06
i've been a fan of kevin smith and his movies for about 6 years and i just got the book this year (2006). i'm not really a fan of comics but i have wanted to get ahold of the comics by him and see what they were all about. these comics are great. the lost scene is hillarious. i'd say that ALL of the comics by smith are a MUST for any fan. hillarious stuff.
BONG!.......2003-09-24
This is a SWEET book, i am a die hard Kevin Smith fan[God Bless All u other Kevin Smith Fans!] and this book is awesome. I really love how it is like the movie. This is a must have for all u Kevin Smith Fans............Oh yea....SNOOTCH TO THE NOOTCH!!!
Quite Possibly Too Funny For Some.......2001-03-06
This is so funny you may laugh yourself unconscious. You may want to check with your doctor first. Composed of several episodes from the Clerks comic book series, Kevin Smith authors some of the most laugh outloud comic adventures I've ever read. Reprising the characters from the Clerks movie and guest appearances from Smith favorites Jay & Silent Bob, Clerks: The Comic Books is a highly recommended good time.
5 Stars?? Of course, it's View Askew Material.......2001-01-29
For all of those people out there just like me, you cannot get enough Kev Smith material. This collection of comics spins off of the movie, Clerks. Randall does not dissappoint with crude behavior and his warped yet sensible logic. Find out what happened to Caitlin. How do you awaken a comotose female who had sex with a dead guy? Dante knows. Jay and Silent Bob naturally appear and even host the "Lost Episode" from the funeral in Clerks. Saying Kev Smith has milked this concept to death shows how little a VA fan someone is. Jay points out how the tubby one is cashing out, tongue in cheek of course. This book is not for the money it generates, it is for us die hard VA fans out there who cannot sit idley by and wait for the next flick.

Book Description
Quentin Tarantino's films have single-handedly revived and redefined American noir, bringing to Hollywood a new energy, irony, and cool. Tarantino has won awards and accolades around the world, earned a devoted following among critics, actors, and audiences, and paved the way for a new generation of young filmmakers. Tarantino's directorial debut, Reservoir Dogs, hit the screen with a freshness and brutal edge that left critics and audiences stunned. The story of a heist gone wrong, the film weaves a taut and menacing path, laced with bursts of absurd and unexpected humor, as an eccentric cast of urban outlaws attempts to identify the rat in their midst. The film established the groundbreaking aesthetic -- smart-ass, hard-edged, and ultravoilent -- that made Tarantino one of the most sought-after directors in the nation. As Newsweek wrote, "Reservoir Dogs leaves little doubt that you are in the presence of major league talent."
Customer Reviews:
"If you kill that man, you die next.".......2002-09-10
"Reservoir Dogs" is one of my favorite movies. Just the acting, the writing, the mood, the setting, the characters....just everything about it I loved! After reading the screenplay for "Pulp Fiction," I decided to pick this up. "Reservoir Dogs: The Screenplay" is a must-have for any "Reservoir" fan.
Tarantino's writing is so clever and realistic. These people talk like real people! If you see movies about criminals, they're always talking about the heist, how big and bad they are, and what they would do if the cops would try to take them down. Have you ever heard a criminal trying to explain the orgin of Madonna's "Like a Virgin?" Have you heard a criminal explain why he doesn't believe in tipping? Or, have you ever seen a criminal dance to the song "Stuck in the Middle with You?" just before brutally torturing a cop? Of course not! That's why the material works and is so original. We actually believe these characters created out of fiction are real. And that's what's so great about it.
Here's a quick description of the story: Things go horribly wrong when perfect strangers plan to pull off the perfect caper. As it turns out, they were set up...but by who? Now, they must uncover the rat in the house before the cops are able to get them. In a crime/noir where no one is safe and everyone fears each other, ANYTHING is possible.
The book includes photos from the movie, as well as things that were either cut out from the movie or added in later. Pretty cool, if you ask me. That way, it's like you're experiencing it for the very first time.
Tarantino is a master when it comes to writing and directing. If you loved the movie, then you are bound to enjoy "Reservoir Dogs: The Screenplay," filled with humor, suprises, and a shocking conclusion.
Strikingly original and well told........2000-09-22
This maximum script by Oscar-winning writer Quentin Tarantino offers a vivid portrait of the finished film, even if you haven't seen it! This is a brilliant scenario, with an informal introduction to boot, but it Tarantino's style of writing and his management of characters that makes it click. Enjoy.
Clever. Very Clever.......1999-10-18
Tarantino has picked up a metaphorical batton where Scorcese left, and used stimulating dialogue and complex storyline, with a feel good vibe at the end with a post sex 'Wow! That was great'. Tarantino's obsession with making crime more stimulating through black culture and drugs helped move this moveie along. Keitel was great, Roth was good. Not as great as Pulp Fiction, but you can see the stems of his talent in this movie, better than in True Romance.
QUENTIN-SENTIAL SCREENPLAYS.......1999-07-06
Ah yes...Tarantino's first script entitled True Romance which he sold for 30,000 dollars is a genius effort of great proportion and the writing, you will notice in subsequent films and scripts,is common for him. Certain terms will show up later on in other movies. And as for Reservoir Dogs, his second greatest film ever,he used the money from True Romance's script to make this ingenius mob classic complete with terms used in his other films including one or two from True Romance.

Book Description
Choice Outstanding Academic Books 1996
Notes From Underground offers the first Western sociological study of rock music and counterculture in Russian society. Based on participant observation, in-depth interviews, and life-history analysis, the author provides a detailed ethnographic examination of the origins and local meanings of rock music and the countercultural way of life of rock musicians in St. Petersburg during the socialist period of Russian history. Rock music served as the basis for alternative forms of individual and collective identity which stood as beacons of difference and resistance in the bleak cultural environment of socialist industrial society. Cushman explores the experiences of members of the St. Petersburg musical community after the dissolution of the Soviet Union in order to shed light on the following questions: What happens to oppositional "underground" culture when it "comes up from the underground?" What is the fate of Russian rock music and those who make it under new conditions of the rapid capitalist rationalization of post-Soviet Russian society?
The book traces the experiences of musicians in new capitalist culture markets, both in Russia and in Western societies to illustrate the more general process of "commercialization of dissent" which is taking place in post-communist societies. Russia's entrance into the path of Western capitalist modernity is viewed not so much as a path to freedom and cultural autonomy, but as the intersection of two trajectories of modernity that has given rise to new and unique cultural dilemmas. It concludes with an examination of important theoretical issues about the problematic relationship between capitalism, cultural freedom, and democracy in contemporary Russian society.
Book Description
Julian Pottage, one of the world's top writers on the game, provides expert advice on how to play bridge - and win - as part of a team. He reveals the best ways to tackle bidding decisions, solutions to card-play problems, and a host of tactical strategies. Perhaps most helpful of all, Pottage goes step by step through a fictional 64-hand bridge game, pointing out "do's" and "don'ts."
Customer Reviews:
Win the Big Match.......2007-07-12
Yes these problems were challenging but not impossible and, yes I do think lots of experts would get these right at the table. Some no but most yes. That's why it's a bridge book! It's supposed to be challenging.
I didn't really care for the 'folksy' style where all the players have names and your right hand opponent has a fondness for pumpkin seeds, etc. but some might like that human element.
In short, I'd say these hands were of average to average plus quality for someone looking for difficult hands.
Other reviewers point to Kelsey and I can't disagree there. He's certainly the gold standard in my book too but that doesn't mean that others can't be worthy contributors.
Maybe its me, but I really disliked this one.......2006-12-24
I seriously doubt whether anyone below expert would solve these at the table. I doub't most experts would either.
I don't see what this book has to offer anyone.
You want interesting problems? Eddie Kantare has a better set. For hard problems try Jeff Rubens Bridge Worlds test Your Declarer Play.
For Advanced Players.......2006-11-27
Some of the hands are nicely done. Requiring visualization and playing for a specific layout. But in general I found the problems to be not that enjoyable. Yes they were hard (not just a double squeeze but also some exact layout)) but I didn't find they offered interesting twists.
For example - In Hugh Kelsey's Test Your Defense - the problems were tricky each with a pit fall or two, but they weren't super hard. Those were practical problems. These problems are unlikely to be solved at the table, even by strong players.
If you are Advanced (for real - not just an inflated ego) you may add a star and consider this average. There are many other books on problems that I consider more interesting and relevant.
I suggest Kelseys Test Your XXX series books, and Jannerstens "The Only Chance" instead.
Book Description

Written by two noted divorce planning experts, this book arms readers with the knowledge and tools they need to make it through a divorce with their financial skins intact. Readers learn of all the financial risks and ramifications involved, as well as how to prepare themselves for any eventuality. And they get proven strategies for negotiating the best possible financial solution, along with valuable work sheets, checklists, and sample documents. Among other important lessons, readers learn how to:
- Construct a solid financial action plan when divorce seems imminent
- Get a complete picture of family finances, including the low down on a spouse's small business or intellectual assets
- Negotiate a win-win financial settlement
- Choose the best settlement method, from options including mediated, arbitrated, and collaborative agreements
- Avoid tax penalties and pitfalls and deal with retirement nest egg, 401(k), and SSI issues
Customer Reviews:
Detailed!!.......2006-05-24
Helps you to understand the complexity of marital debt/assets. In doing post-divorce mediation, the aftermath is worse than the initial filing of the divorce petition. Here we have two consenting adults reigning over the financial thrones of the other. Leaving their financial future in the hands of someone bitter will only gain negative results. What makes one think the court order will enforce resolution? The other party may not feel the urge to pay out of malice. This can lead to foreclosures, collection calls, garnishments, jdgements/liens, (ALL in YOUR name!!!) and frustration.
Being obligated on debt/assets and assuming resolution is a narrow-minded field of scope. This book describes the wide range of capacity in which you should consult with your attorney to ensure fair equitable distribution and negotiation. A mediator is usually sought out or court-ordered for disputes such as this.
Support issues such as commingled funds, both spouses' rights to pensions and social security, equitable business, equitable mortgage , child support, spousal support, and other dividends are dissertated in this book.
This book has so much information in it that is very useful to me as a practitioner. Divorcing couples need to get this for the outcome of what is to be.
